The Morning Rant: J.V. Edition

punk-monkey.jpg

This is perfect! Hollywood is known for its virtue-signalling support for the "little man," and every redistributionist and socialist cause under the sun and under every rock in Bel Air, but the reality is that the Left in America, ably represented by the out-of-touch dancing monkeys and mimics of Hollywood just love to be elite and be a part of their cozy little caste system. And why should they breathe the same air as lowly technicians, when they, and only they are the creative life-spark of their glorious world?

Scorsese, Tarantino, Other Filmmakers Call Academy's Oscar Plan "An Insult"

A lengthy list of leading filmmakers are blasting the Academy's plan to present four awards categories at the upcoming 91st Oscars during commercial breaks as "nothing less than an insult to those of us who have devoted our lives and passions to our chosen profession." They are calling for the Academy to reverse its decision.
I wonder whether women and minorities are more heavily represented in the discarded categories that the Academy (what a pompous word to use!) thinks unworthy of the public's appreciation and applause? Wouldn't that be delicious!

******

He took bribes and probably raped little girls in the Dominican Republic during his jaunts there with his crooked buddy, and still got reelected in NJ, so trust me when I say nothing will happen.
Menendez threatens to call police on reporter asking about Green New Deal
"Don't keep harassing me anymore or I'll race to the Capitol Police," the New Jersey Democrat threatened.

But weren't the Democrats up in arms last year when the White House pushed back against a "journalist?" I assume then that Menendez will get a stern talking-to from the Senate leadership...
******

It's from a law professor at Columbia University, so of course it's a blathering bunch of illogical and under-informed bullshit, but it goes farther than anything I have read in its condemnation of modern society, free will, and the American way of life.
The Green New Deal Is What Realistic Environmental Policy Looks Like
What do these goals have to do with stabilizing atmospheric carbon levels before climate change makes large parts of the world uninhabitable? What has taken liberal critics aback is that the Green New Deal strays so far from the traditional environmental emphasis on controlling pollution, which the carbon tax aims to do, and tries to solve the problems of economic inequality, poverty and even corporate concentration (there’s an antimonopoly clause).

But this everything-and-the-carbon-sink strategy is actually a feature of the approach, not a bug, and not only for reasons of ideological branding. In the 21st century, environmental policy is economic policy. Keeping the two separate isn’t a feat of intellectual discipline. It’s an anachronism.

It's essentially Stalin's plan for the Ukranians around 1932-1933, only made pretty by modern language.

Even if Trump moves to "supplement" the bill with nat'l emergency actions on physical security, there are multiple other disastrous provisions (H2Bs, de facto amnesty for "unaccompanied" minors and their "sponsors", etc).

79 That is simply insane. It makes no sense. Removing a president under the 25th amendment is harder than through impeachment. It requires the same people who are needed for impeachment, plus more.

Impeaching and removing a president requires: a simple majority of the house, plus two thirds of the senate.

Removing a president against his will through the 25th amendment requires: two thirds of the house, plus two thirds of the senate, plus the vice president, plus a majority of the cabinet. If you have all of those on board you don't need the 25th, you can simply impeach and remove him.

The purpose of the 25th is (1) to remove a president who doesn't object but can't resign because he's in a coma or a straitjacket; or (2) to reluctantly remove a beloved president without having to embarrass him and harm his place in history. Neither of these apply to Trump. He would certainly object to his removal, and those seeking it don't love him.

Yeah it was a rare chance to get a view of the stars (live) and a recap of the films over the year. These days you have to work to avoid seeing celebrities, and the films are available almost after first screening to stream or rent. IMO, the ONLY benefit of the Oscars is the public presentation of awards for things like editing, music, cinematography, make-up, special effects, costuming, etc.
It educates the public about all of the aspects that go into making a film.

They've been cutting back on televising these awards over the years and now have gone completely over the edge. Editing and cinematography are minor?!?

What they SHOULD do is present the acting awards during commercials. Those people already have enough publicity and they can preen at the other 253 award shows!

Kind of sad. That plane is technologically amazing and great to fly on. Unfortunately, Airbus wasn't as good at predicting where the market was going as Boeing was. They've only sold about 286 of them ant they'll never make their initial investment back.

Also, their production logistics were insane from the start. It was all due to politics and the need to parcel out pieces of the production to factories in multiple countries. Hence, the need to move huge pieces of fuselage and wings by barge and truck across hundreds of miles.

Hawaii state lawmakers voted down a proposal to allow homeowners to use deadly force if they felt an intruder would harm them.

Lawmakers voted down the new law Wednesday.

The proposed law essentially lowered the threshold on situations where deadly force is justifiable. Previously, that threshold included fear of death, kidnap or rape. The new bill would have justified deadly force even if the person threatened did not feel "imminent" danger - that includes situations of simple harm or assault at the hands of the intruder.

The proposal specifies a homeowner could justifiably use deadly force without waiting for an intruder to load a gun or otherwise prepare to use a weapon.

Police lobbied against the new bill, saying it could set an "extremely low standard" for homeowners to use force, which could lead to needless killings.

234 A bitterly divided Senate committee Wednesday approved on a party line vote changes to Senate rules that will allow the Republican majority to speed confirmations of most of President Donald Trump's nominees.

Republicans backed the proposal, which would limit debate time on nominees, arguing during a spirited session of the Senate Rules Committee that it was the only way to overcome what they described as unprecedented obstruction by Democrats of Trump's executive branch and judicial appointments.

The full Senate would need to approve the plan before it takes effect. No vote has yet been scheduled. But Republicans are also weighing using the "nuclear option" to force the change over the objection of Democrats. Such a move would further inflame Democrats because it would lower the threshold for a rule change to a simple majority.

If adopted, the rule changes would lower from 30 hours to two hours the debate time allowed once a filibuster has been defeated. The change would apply to almost all judicial and executive branch nominees but not picks for high-level positions, such as Cabinet officials, federal appellate court judges and the members of the Supreme Court.

245 In retrospect, it's now obvious why so many leftist MSM outlets (but that's a redundancy) were talking up a 25th amendment "solution" at the time, even though anyone with even the slightest bit of sense was pointing out how idiotic an idea it was. McCabe was calling all of his friends and allied in the MSM and getting them to "talk up" his plan, in the vain idea that he could pretend there was some "public support" with it.

Go back and search for which outlets were talking about it (NYT and WaPo are numbers 1 and 2 on the list) and it'll give you a list of Who's Who in the Deep State's Media rolodex.

And a good 50% think maybe it smells a little fishy but it can't be THAT bad because, if it were, it would be a Big Scandal on the TV and the TV says it's not and golly I guess it isn't really important and I need to pick up burgers for dinner and recharge my cellphone.

The irony, of course, is that there has never been a "right to hunt" in the West. There has been freedom to do so in wilderness areas where property rights are dubious or non-existing but otherwise the "right to hunt" is fully attached to property rights, like the "right to farm."

But the individual right of a FREE man to bear arms in self-defense has existed for millennia and was recognized in both Roman and Common law. And it has always been a major element distinguishing the free man from the slave.

My company does a lot of science and engineering things. A few years ago management set up an award to recognize women in our company who excel at the technical work.

This year, heh, a HUGE backlash started from some non-technical areas about the award, about how it's been unfair because women are what you identify as, not as what you are. So now trans people are eligible. OK, but then more backlash from other quarters because they say the theory of the award is that it recognizes triumph over adversity, and dammit in the technical areas minorities have disadvantages. Now minority men are eligible.

So long story short, the winner of this years Women In Technology award is a hispanic man.

Sigh.
