This is Insane This is a LONG read (3 articles, the successive ones are linked at the bottom of each previous one). It's also an example of excellent investigative reporting that's become all too rare. The backstory: 2 years ago, a reporter was contacted by a lady who worked at a circus. She said she had a story to tell about how James Brown and his third wife were both murdered. He goes to see her and she tells a long, rambling and disjointed story, a real Southern Gothic tale, about being raped by Brown, his wife being murdered, crooked accountants, shady lawyers, murder for hire, drugs, sex, organized crime...really, the story has it all. She presents a plastic bin full of stuff to back up her claim. I'm sure reporters get these kind of stories all the time, from crackpots of all shapes and sizes, but as this reporter digs deeper, to his amazement he finds that the stuff she presented as evidence seems to be backing up her claims. So he digs a little more.... Does he come up with smoking gun proof that Brown was murdered? No, he doesn't. But he does seem to verify enough to prove that at the very least, there was some crazy shit going on around James Brown. If it was a Mythbusters episode, they'd deem the story “plausible”. He SHOULD have had a record that would have prevented the purchase, but since Broward Country decided to “solve” their problems with bad behavior by not reporting them, he wasn't. The result was 17 dead. How on earth could anyone guess that kids who are not given boundaries and discipline would misbehave?

In a 5-4 ruling issued late Thursday, Chief Justice John Roberts joined the courts liberal wing to stay the law that requires physicians to hold active admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles of the facility where abortion care is provided while a case against it plays out in court.

It was really delightful..
He was invited by the British Imperial War Museum Archives to do something interesting and novel with movie footage they have from WW I.
Amazing what he did with it.. he took crappy old grainy footage and standardize it to 24 frames per second.. then colorized a good portion of it... And he used vocal history accounts by WW I vets that were recorded in the 60's and 70's as narration.
It only covered the Western Front of UK soldiers.. but it was stunning..
If you get a showing in your area, I would highly recommend it!

Roberts doesn't give two shits about the "Law" - but he cares quite a bit about the reputation of the Supreme Court.
You can trace every fucked up ruling by Roberts back to one thing ... will the Court be obeyed ? Because in the case of ObamaCare - Roberts knew that Obama was going to push that shit forward anyway. So Roberts made a ruling to save face for the Court.
Same thing here. Roberts is calculating that the Left will riot over this shit (they will), while the Right will as they're told (they will). So he's putting the Law down on those that will listen. If he thought Louisiana would tell the Supreme Court to go fuck itself - he would have sided with the Conservatives instead.

There was really no pain relief for anyone, so people didn't even know that anything else could be done. They put up with quite a lot. They were just much stronger than modern man.
Any general dental work back then would send most pansies today into serious conniptions and would be considered the worst sort of inhumane, unbearable torture possible ... but back then pretty much everyone just went through it when they had to. Because that's how life was.

Either party with a case should simply ask where the 'other Justice' is... and ask for the 'other Justice' to recuse for not being physically present.
If rebuffed, petition for impeachment of all parties supporting the Justices which support the "absentia" Justice and request POTUS appoint a new Justice to fill the vacant seat.
Key word is 'simply'.

The wind is literally howling right now and the current temp is 6. It would be a great day to curl up with a book and a latte and a cat in my lap, but I think I may have screwed up some paperwork so I have to go in and really go back over everything I did. That's highly plausible. But I still have one hope about him. I don't recall him twisting the Constitution. Statutory interpretation is another matter, as in the "tax" pretzel.
It does also make one point. We shouldn't be rushing important cases to SCOTUS just yet. We need another justice. (I also suspect that, if he knows we're winning without him, Roberts is more likely to join in.)

In almost all cases such as that when the people who were robbed by the cops take it to court the judges has ate the cop's lunches on that shit and ordered them to return the money. But still the DOJ has not stamped it out in the federal cases and the States see it as another major revenue source. The DOJ with sleepy Sessions actually supported this illegal BS.

No they can't "throttle it" but they can cut it off entirely by remote control unless you are in a small utility with old equipment. In that case they cut off whole towns and subdivisions.
They do that during periods when load is reaching a critical point where all available supply is in service and loads are about to exceed that supply. As far as I know they have not cut off individual homes yet, even if they can do it.

It is usually not a problem anywhere in the SE, but I have seen periods where on a very hot day in the Summer when some of the major generating facilities were out of service that rotating blackouts had to be implemented.

They can't do individual houses by the meter unless they have the meter plugged into something like a 200A breaker. but what most do is control it at the transformer feeding multiple houses. So they will kill a small block of houses in a neighborhood. But, as I said, I have not seen them do that here. They kill major parts of the grid on a rotating basis.

can kill individual circuits, but if you have a say 200 amp panel, they

It's a lot easier to install a remote controlled breaker at the load than at the power panel, or at the meter base which would have to be huge.

It is called a "brownout" and a lot of utilities used to do it. We quit because we found that it did not good.

standard 60Hz during peak usage. Some of the many problems is that
high grade UPS see this as a problem and consume more energy to restore
the 60Hz; also MANY motors (think A/C compressors) are tuned for 60Hz
and work less efficiently using more power and may start cooking
bearings with the extra heat when the outside temperatures are already
over 100F.
