The Typhus Epidemic that LA's Government Has Cooked Up Has Now Spread to... City Hall

That's a shame.

All carpets at Los Angeles City Hall may need to be replaced amid a Typhus outbreak that may have infected one city employee while at work, according to a motion filed by Council President Herb Wesson on Wednesday.

Wesson first became aware of a vermin issue in November 2018, contacted pest control experts and removed all his office's carpets, according to the motion.

The motion reported cleanup issues and a noticeable increase in rodents in the area, which could have contributed to the outbreak.

Los Angeles' government has pretty much invited this outbreak. They have lots of homeless people, but nowhere for the homeless to defecate, except storm drains. They are allowing the streets to be strewn with trash. They've let their rat problem get out of control.

Basically they've reproduced the living conditions of a filthy Medieval port city, and are now shocked to find that they have "Typhus zones" like a Medieval port city.

But they're the Party of Science, you know.

196 Ah. Time for the Deadpan Snarker Trope, courtesy of Dr. Zhivago:

Zhivago takes this tone with the Party delegates who now live in his old house in Moscow upon his return from World War I. They notice. Oh, yes, they notice.
Delegate: (Reviewing Zhivago's discharge papers) Holy Cross? (beat) What?
Zhivago: Holy Cross Hospital. It's on—
Tonya: (interrupting) The Second Reformed Hospital, he means.
Zhivago: Oh. (beat) Good. It needed reforming.
Delegate: (beat, with icy We Are Not Amused gaze)

After pointedly reminding Dr. Zhivago that he's "been listening to rumormongers, Comrade. There is no typhus in our city," the delegate shortly thereafter has Zhivago pulled from work to discreetly diagnose an ill man in the house.

Zhivago: Why? Is it typhus?
Zhivago: (after inspecting patient) It isn't typhus. It's another disease we don't have in Moscow: starvation.
Delegate: That seems to give you satisfaction.
Zhivago: It would give me satisfaction to hear you admit it.
Delegate: Would it? Why?
Zhivago: Because it is so.
Delegate: Your attitude is noticed, you know. Oh, yes, it's been noticed!

216 During the 1876 Yellow Fever outbreak in Savannah, hundreds were dying. It wasn't uncommon for a victim to simply be unconscious and be accidentally buried alive. There is more than one story of the sounds of someone banging frantically from inside their coffin.

The term "dead ringer" comes from wealthy families hiring someone to stand over the grave of a loved one. The loved one had a string attached to a bell they could ring if they came to.

Gives me the shivers.

Man vs. rat: A true tale of life in Los Angeles

...To drive away my unwanted guests, I tried coyote urine, ammonia-soaked sponges, cayenne pepper and motion sensor sprinklers. None of this deterred the raccoons for more than a few days. The paper's then-editor, a mild-mannered Southern gent, told me I should get a musket.

...I met with the woman, told her my story, and she went to work. She later emailed to say she had gotten in touch with my raccoons and that she'd be sending me a transcript of those communications. And sure enough, she did, explaining that as the raccoons saw it, their ancestors were buried in my yard, and I wasn't showing proper respect.

Seriously, most of the outskirts of LA are crazy, it looks like something out of a zombie movie, with people just wandering in the middle of the street. I really feel sorry for people with businesses there, except for the guys with security fencing businesses. They're cleaning up.

237 They are going to have to remove carpets but since they won't fix the vermin problem they can't put down new carpet as they'll just get typhus bearing fleas again right away. They'll have to just paint the concrete, maybe get some rubber mats for any positions where clerks are standing dealing with the public. After all they can't use DDT or since this is Cali probably can't use any effective insecticide, certainly not often enough to do any good with the rats and refuse problem they have.

My ancient non-alien theory is that civilizations have advanced to a point where they could be overly compassionate or indulgent and breed laziness before and then they regressed and either got overrun by barbarians or just died out. Sad to see it happening in real time but it is as old as human nature.

I call that the '25% of American children go to bed hungry' syndrome.

When such numbers began to be bandied about, I looked into the 'study'. What I found was the methodology by which it was determined. They asked children if they had ever gone to bed hungry.

Shock and surprise, some number of kids raised their hands (look at me! look at me!). Kids being kids, I suspect that a 'me too!' component set in, and, Voila!

Inexplicably, Michelle Obama was simultaneously, excruciatingly, pontificating that childhood obesity was the great national problem.

LA probably will start to address some issues related to homelessness if this represents a health threat to its ruling class. Ditto illegal immigration once that causes hardships and heartache for the national ruling class.

I battle raccoons and squirrels. One raccoon can make a lawn look as if a rototiller had been used overnight - I'm not kidding. The grub spray worked for me one year, but not recently. I think once they get a snack, they figure there's got to be another one... somewhere. No chase phases it. They laugh at the motion detector impulse sprinklers. I'm renting my house now, and assume there's nothing left of the back yard. I just pay the kids to mow the dirt.

Squirrels chew their way into the attic, literally 7" holes under the tile roof. They then chew on the wiring and move the insulation around as they please. They're too damn smart to get caught in traps, and even slightly cracking a door to slip the barrel of my pellet rifle out sent that little black POS to the treetops.

I call that the '25% of American children go to bed hungry' syndrome.

When such numbers began to be bandied about, I looked into the
'study'. What I found was the methodology by which it was determined.
They asked children if they had ever gone to bed hungry.

Shock and surprise, some number of kids raised their hands (look at
me! look at me!). Kids being kids, I suspect that a 'me too!' component
set in, and, Voila!

Inexplicably, Michelle Obama was simultaneously, excruciatingly,
pontificating that childhood obesity was the great national problem.

OK. I use peanut butter on the trigger, but found that often the trap would be sprung, but no rat. Doing a little operations research, I realized that the rat probably approached the trap from the kill bar side, so when he triggered the trap, the kill bar just passed over his head (probably scaring the shit out of him, but that's all).

So I started putting a small smear of peanut butter at the end of the trap nearer the trigger, the idea being he got a little appetizer yum yum, then went for the main course, approaching the trigger from the business end.

Works like a charm.

522 What they never tell you about the "4th warmest year ever" (and which they''re probably too stupid to understand) is that the record keepers made the decision to chop about 2 1/2 degrees OFF the recorded temperatures for everything in the 30's, which actually was the hottest decade, and add about a degree to recent temps - they call that "normalization".

If you were to go back and look at actual newspaper clipping that showed recorded temperatures in the 1930's, you would be shocked to find out that not a single one of them anymore is the same as what is in the "official" temperature record.

The warmists have literally erased all of the inconvenient data from the record and replaced it with "data" that is more agreeable to their goals.

Some people can't comprehend how small Europe is.

We're used to the expanse of the US.

One reason Europe uses rail transport for people is because by the time you'd take off and reach altitude, you'd already be losing altitude for approach to your destination.

Trains don't work as well as planes here as the distance is too long, too slow and crosses too many grade crossings.

It's very similar to Japan and for the same reasons.

Heh. You'll be fine.

I'll admit that when I moved here, I made a herculean effort to avoid saying "y'all". Which was daunting, because I used to say it all the time in SoCal. I was afraid that Texans would think that the pudgy new guy from California was mocking them.

Then I realized that they don't care what I sound like, they just care about what kind of person I am. Exactly the way it should be.

On the other hand, wear a Texas Rangers ball cap in SoCal and those people freak the fuck out. Which is why I wore it every Tuesday evening at the farmer's market, to piss off the hippies.
