So...are the media being genuinely obtuse, or are they really that stupid? I wonder if one of their armchair general advised them on this? Posted by: Diogenes at January 23, 2019 07:41 PM (0tfLf) --- These people thought that nominating "war hero" John Kerry would undermine Dubya. Anyone old enough to remember that? Most of you are 29, and that was 14 years ago, but the whole Rathergate thing was part of an attempt to make people think Dubya was a coward and deserter as opposed to *thrice wounded* John Kerry. And when his own crewmates came out with the truth, "Swift-boating" entered the vocabulary as a form of "fake news." That is to say, eye-witness, on-the-record accounts people using their own names was suspect, but of course un-sourced anonymous documents using improbably modern fonts, why that was "fake but accurate." Seems to be SOP nowadays. It's funny to watch all the commie media twats on Twatter suddenly saying that we should just let the Shitting Bull incident go and "let the kids heal" and such horseshit. Yes, it's okay to get pissed and rage from time to time, but then you let it go and get down to business. There are really only two outcomes to our current situation. 1. The left burns itself out and alienates all the normals. A bumpy few years but then things get more sane. It's worth pointing out that things were a LOT worse in the late 60s when we had an actual SOVIET UNION working against us. Somehow America survived. 2. Things go sideways and we get the war everyone seems to want. Maybe it has to happen this way. Larger forces are at work. If that's what happens, worry about what's going on in your lane, and keep a positive outlook. Either way, "non carborundum illegitimi" - don't let the bastards wear you down! Posted by: A.H. Layoffs are common in the private sector. During boom times everyone builds staff and will hire anyone. Then when things get competitive, there are layoffs as a weeding-out process separates the most productive from those who just show up. And things always get competitive whenever a new business idea becomes successful as others rush to copy it. We could be looking at an industry wide shake out as blogs and media outlets find profits being threatened by bloated staff. Just like these online ads. Advertisers begin to question the effectiveness of online advertising versus cost and start to cut back, or become more selective. Just business. "Man, anger is really exhausting. It's not good for you."
While partially true, a lot of the problem is "impotent" anger (not THAT impotence). You're really upset about something, but can't actually address it or defeat it. If you could channel your anger into physical activity, and see results in stopping your antagonist, it might be less exhausting and more motivating. Unless you're Trump, who somehow seems to feed off of all the hate thrown his way. Cenk Uygur doesn't get much right, but I think he's the one who said Trump was like a Star Trek monster, and whenever the crew attacked him, he got more powerful. The Enterprise crew was smart enough to stop shooting the creature, but the Dems just keep attacking Trump with ever increasing, unhinged rage. Immunity from libel and slander laws to congrescritters is part of the Westfall Act, which passed in 1989. This was after a Supreme Court case which ruled that the speech and debate clause applied only to statements made "in seat", on the floor of Congress or in committee. The bastards immediately exempted themselves once the Court affirmatively ruled the speech and debate clause didn't apply outside of Congress. They also gave immunity to the judicial branch as well, so the judges might be more cool with the Act. The Westfall cleverly prevents state lawsuits against COngresscritters (and all federal officials). It declares that any such alleged tort by a federal employee (including congresscritters) is against the United States, not the private person. Therefore it must go to federal court, whereby it will be immediately thrown out via the Westfall immunity. (ABC) - Conservative news outlets have latched onto the story as evidence of media bias, after videos over the weekend showed students from the all-male Covington Catholic High School in Park Hills, Kentucky -- with several wearing red 'Make America Great Again' caps -- chanting and appearing to taunt a small group of Native American protesters at an Indigenous Peoples March.

One is a Russian civilian aircraft departing Venezuela; the other, intriguingly, is an F-35 apparently from Yuma (USMC F-35 transition training is in Yuma, I think), that flew out over San Diego and down the coast of Baja. Posted by: Calm Mentor's GoFundMe at January 23, 2019 09:29 PM (ffYR/) No it is not, and Barnes specifically addressed this during the Fox and Friends interview early this morning. He is going after those that tweeted crap and specifically did not retract it. In another 32 hours or so. Posted by: LeftCoast Dawg at January 23, 2019 09:33 PM (sy5kK) 571

Well ok Boswell, a compromise. The SIG 1911 SpecOps is the finest pistol I have ever fired, and I've fired a few.
Posted by: Eromero You're not alone, Eromero - heard it from a lot of officers - they loved the SIG/. "Better to place it so they're dead" was the mantra - but still, the ole' John Wayner was soo cool to fire... Posted by: Boswell at January 23, 2019 09:32 PM (32YRo) I have heard the same. I just never got into regular SIGS although everyone knows they are top of the line. I am just not a DA/SA guy. I like one or the other. Posted by: quint at January 23, 2019 09:39 PM (n13/j) 574

The Barnes Law Group is going to have one hell of a bill from Amazon Web Services, storing all those names in the cloud. Posted by: LeftCoast Dawg at January 23, 2019 09:27 PM (sy5kK) ***************** The attorney that represented the UVA case was on Tucker. She really knows her stuff and seemed to imply that there are things Barnes can and can't do. She knows the ins and outs and is far more experienced in these types of issues, otherwise it could end up hurting the kids. Some of the kids should hire her because she seems to know a lot more than Barnes. Posted by: redridinghood at January 23, 2019 09:44 PM (hECVl) 576
You have to wonder if for that 2 hours they wouldn't call Pennsylvania, if Hillary considered just upping and declaring victory. Media and mob would have had her back. Could have been... interesting.

Posted by: quint Likewise, I loved the old military pistol formats and hated the new military rifle platforms and met plenty of guys who were just the opposite. It's what you feel comfortable shooting in the end, I guess. I did okay in both, but better in pistol and a lot worse in rifle - I think most had the opposite experience. 544 Robert Barnes is already on his pathetic ass. I wouldn't give the turd the 48 hour grace period.
Posted by: TheQuietMan at January 23, 2019 09:22 PM (SiINZ) Kentucky law says the defamer has 48 hours after notice to retract. Retraction doesnt save them but will mitigate the damages awarded against them. I hope they stay mum. Some on the previous thread doubted the Covington boys could prove major damages, while others predicted they will be excluded from the vast majority of colleges. It seems to me CCHS will be able to come up with a good estimate of the latter. This is college-acceptance season. Though I teach in a private 6-12 school, I don't follow them closely because I'm not teaching 11th or 12th graders. However, I know some got early acceptances last month, and I believe all regular (not-early) acceptances and wait-listings come out in the next couple of months. If a bunch of early-accepted CCHS boys have their acceptances recinded, and if that has rarely or never happened before, that's prima facie evidence that the slander has had a severe effect on the boys' future earnings, and the effect can be calculated at least to an order of magnitude. Similarly, if (hypothetically) 25-30 CCHS boys apply to UK every year and 70-80% are accepted, and this year the acceptance drops to 20% - that would be clear evidence of a huge discriminatory effect against students at the school. Similarly, if (e.g.) boys with 3.8+ GPA and 1400+ SATs have never been turned down by some college that many of them apply to, and now they're all turned down. Boys who weren't even on the field trip would have a particularly strong case. I wonder if they could sue the colleges as well as the journalists and their flying twitter monkeys.

There were a lot of rumors about this. Bill Whittle mentioned Breitbart's death on one of his recent vlogs. He mentioned that people who knew him saw the deterioration in health that his work and schedule was causing and had warned him about it. Possibly repeatedly, I forget. I've mentioned this, but Andrew was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect just a couple of months before his death. I think he was hospitalized due to that condition. When I saw him, a few weeks after that hospitalization or health scare (whichever it was), he was on a health kick to lose weight. He was on keto or atkins and talking a lot about it. But it was very early in the diet so I don't think he'd had any GAINZZZZ yet. The point is, when someone goes to the hospital over a heart condition, gets diagnosed with an until-then unknown congenital heart condition, then is instructed to make lifestyle changes pronto, and also has a very stressful job and frenetic lifestyle, and then has a heart attack -- look, that's got to be the LEAST suspicious fact-pattern in the world. BuzzFeed and fellow ilk are in bad shape. They have two insurmountable problems: Amazon and competition for the same audience from way too many sites.First, Amazon is going full speed after Google and Facebook to dominate Ad spending. Amazon has billions of client transactions and insight.
BuzzFeed, HuffPo, Vox and all these liberal sites have minuscule insight. Who gets all the Ad spend, not them. Worse, is that all of the left wing media (almost all the media) write for Stephen Colbert's audience. These carp sites must compete with NYT, WaPo, NewYorker (every Conde Nast site), CNN, The Daily Beast, Time, you get the picture. Oh, your audience is in CA, NY, DC, Chiraq and University towns.Layoffs will be a regular occurrence for all these site. Posted by: standfast24 at January 24, 2019 01:05 PM (4OBCQ) 585
It's really quite simple. I can't believe they can't see it. (But then, as Ben Rhodes has pointed out, they are not the sharpest tools in the shed.)
They chose sides. They chose the side that likes free stuff and not paying for things. They chose...poorly. Posted by: Ankylus at January 24, 2019 05:50 PM (tktnQ) Processing 0.06, elapsed 0.0768 seconds. |
