Russian Lawyer Who Worked With Fusion GPS and Met With Trump Jr. Charged With Obstruction of Justice

Natalia Veselnitskaya became a central figure in Mueller's probe of Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. election when it was revealed that in June 2016, she met with Donald Trump Jr. and other senior Trump campaign advisers after an intermediary indicated she had dirt on Hillary Clinton.
The indictment unsealed Tuesday relates to a different legal fight involving the Russian and U.S. governments, and charges Veselnitskaya made a "misleading declaration" to the court in a civil case arising from an investigation by federal prosecutors in Manhattan into suspected Russian money laundering and tax fraud. She did not immediately respond to a request for comment. ... In 2014, U.S. authorities were investigating whether Prevezon Holdings, a Cyprus-based real estate corporation, orchestrated a tax scheme in Russia by stealing the identities of companies and filing sham lawsuits to incur fake losses to generate tax refunds.
Veselnitskaya represented Prevezon Holdings in a civil case in which the U.S. attorney's office in Manhattan sought millions of dollars in forfeiture from the company and others. The Justice Department had alleged in a civil complaint that a Russian criminal organization ran an elaborate tax refund scheme. The way prosecutors described it, the members of the organization stole the identities of companies that were part of the Hermitage Fund, then filed sham lawsuits against those companies. In the lawsuits, the members of the organization posed as both plaintiffs and defendants, admitting wrongdoing so they would have large money judgments which they could claim as losses and get refunds.

The "just compensation" question has never been in front of SCOTUS as far as I can tell.

If you cut corners to avoid government interference and taxation, okay. Technically illegal and immoral but a pretty minor infraction and F the government. If you cut corners to build a walkway over a street because you're saving money and it collapses, that was a huge foul.

I won't speak for NGU, but I don't think eminent domain is itself bad law. I do think that using it seize property from its owners for transfer to a private outfit because it could generate tax revenue is bad. They claim that using eminent domain to build a mall, for example, is in the public interest because of revenues and this is BS. We shouldn't be using eminent domain to hand land to private developers. It is supposed to be used for roads, military bases, government buildings, border walls, etc. - not private developers.

Both places are gross.
Around here, Olive Garden always has people hanging out of the door waiting their beeper call to get in. And most of them look as though they're quite familiar with Type II Diabeetus.

The corrupt governor and a bunch of people in New London decided that they'd eminent domain a neighborhood in New London, raze it, and build out a huge mixed-use redevelopment project to try to lure Pfizer to New London.
By the time the case got the supreme court, Pfizer had already built out their new campus in, IIRC, PA.

I always wonder how they stay in business.

What a score that is for us, versus having the polished TV commie spokespeople get the immediate following air time.
