Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | They want to be understood [KT]So what are we to make of my ban? The only sensible conclusion is that Twitter is run by a coterie of crypto-fascists. Needless to say, this bodes ill for the social justice movement. . . Do not pity me. As a woman in a heteronormative patriarchal world I am accustomed to males like Jack Dorsey attempting to keep me silent. In my absence from Twitter, I took the opportunity to spend some time at a resort in Val d'Isere, where I could relax and contemplate my oppression. I even managed to write a book which I have entitled Woke: A Guide to Social Justice. I did want to call it My Struggle, but that title was already taken apparently.Entertainment We are all aware of the angst caused on The Left by the song, "Baby, It's Cold Outside". But David Thompson alerts us to another American Classic which has been given a fresh, dismaying interpretation: The Wizard of Oz is a grotesque predictor of Trump's America."It says so right here, in The Guardian. Specifically, Oz is first wondrous and revelatory, then sinister and suspect, a good trip that goes wrong... It's this lurking inner wrongness, the darkness at its edges and the emptiness at its core, that speaks to me now."The author of the above is Bidisha, a mono-named entity who may be familiar to long-term readers, and who describes herself, unironically, as a "non-white angry political female." One who seems determined to find yet another staple of Christmas both ghastly and problematic:" It's impossible to watch the newly crowned 'most influential film ever' without seeing the parallels to the sickly US of today."Oh, ye doubters. Madame Bidisha has her reasons." We can read the catastrophic effects of climate change into the tornado that sets the narrative off,"I didn't say they would be convincing." Check out her reasons for being overwhelmed by the predictive power of this movie. Maybe you can help answer her question about why she is reading so much into this movie at this time. From the comments: that is certainly no coincidence. In fact, 20th century dictators were often writers before they were political leaders, rehearsing their ideological fantasies on paper in anticipation of the day when they would have entire populations at their mercy. At one end of the century, you have Lenin and Mussolini who both had two decades worth of published work behind them when they ascended to power; at the other, you have the Ayatollah Khomeini, writing thick volumes on Islamic jurisprudence and theology before he became the supreme leader of Iran. But dictators also write when they are in power: For instance, Lenin, Stalin, Franco, Saddam Hussein, Salazar, Gaddafi and Mao all found time to write, despite their busy schedules. The variety is startling. There are novels: Mussolini wrote The Cardinal's Mistress, a historical potboiler; Franco produced Raza, a fictionalized account of the Civil War, while Saddam Hussein wrote four novels in the last years of his regime, among them the historical romance Zabiba and the King. Gaddafi wrote prose miniatures; Mao, Salazar, Stalin and Ho Chi Minh dabbled in poetry; Stalin wrote a pamphlet on linguistics; Enver Hoxha, the dictator of Albania, wrote a sequence of memoirs vast enough to rival Proust, while Kim Jong-il issued treatises on opera, journalism and cinema containing piercing insights such as: "A film's images must look good on the screen."You might want to read the whole thing. Anybody old enough to remember when college students in the USA carried around copies of Mao's Little Red Book? I don't remember seeing this myself, but I certainly heard about it. Yes. When I was young Mao was as big as Che, maybe bigger. People really, seriously, believed he was creating a new human nature in China. I do remember an old, c. 1970 note in NR, that there was concern that the book was selling like hotcakes in E Africa. But it turned out no one was reading it. Posted by: ScoggDog at December 15, 2018 11:23 AM That's because of choice itself. Allow me to inform. Imagine having two choices; binary, if you will. You have a 50% chance of getting it right. This implies that you have a 50% chance of getting it wrong, i.e. a poor choice. Now imagine having 3 choices. You now have a 66.67% chance of making a poor choice. More choices increasingly add to the probability of making a poor choice. This is the rationale behind limiting toothpaste to one kind. Simplify your life. Limit yourself to everything being a "1", and all your choices will, de facto, be ones. Posted by: Bernard Sanders at December 15, 2018 11:35 AM (RWsWM) 46

the film revels in the violent deaths of "ugly" women, who have houses dumped on them or drown in water that melts them like acid, while the greatest deceiver, the Wizard, simply shrugs and floats away at the end of the film.
It's hard to believe how ignorant this is. A witch is a type of monster, like a vampire or werewolf. It's no more misogynistic to watch a witch be killed than it would be misandristic to have a stake driven through a vampire's heart, or burst into flames when exposed to the sunlight. The Wizard on the other hand is a "sympathetic rogue" type character, a completely different category. There are female roles that would fit this type as well. So gender is irrelevant in judging the fates of these characters, but these idiots keep trying to use gender or race as their cookie cutter method to evaluate any literary or cinematic production. Honestly, at some point you just stop reading the liberal stupidity. There is nothing interesting, intellectual or uniquely fascinating about them. They dress up their personal grievances, hate, prejudices, vapid stupidity and extraordinary lack of intelligence as something to be seriously considered and debated. It is nothing of the sort. It is in reality the musings of people who would otherwise be ignored if they didn't have a keyboard, social media account and a chorus of other buffoons who have together formed an idiot mob, which they in turn use to fallaciously stroke their overinflated egos, maliciously marinate their sense of self worth and attack people who actually possess real intelligence and intellectually defensible points of view.

I am reading stories about how families are renting caskets for the deceased, which are then returned to the funeral home after the service.
The dead are then buried in garbage bags. Funny thing (if you like dark humor), during my last trip to Germany I saw a casket like this, for a similar purpose, hundred of years old. It had trap doors in the bottom. Simply place the casket over the grave, flip a lever, and the deceased falls out. Then the casket is reused. yeah, good satire. I'd never heard of "My Struggle", the book by some (self-absorbed) Norwegian dude, who apparently found some comparisons with his struggle and Mein Kampf ... Hitler's "struggle" with the ignorance of his time, I guess.
"The Struggle" is commonly used for the nature of man, and his struggle with common life. But taking the point of her satire more seriously, I think most still feel Mandela was a hero, a freedom fighter (so her satire says "now I know how Mandela felt"). But Mandela was a war lord, and after a political time in prison, he went back and sang with his communist friends about killing the Bhulu (whites, like the farmers they are killing now). That was always "their struggle", as wife Winnie continued her torturous tribal ways the whole time. The Brit system was better than the current one. This whole "oppressive white man" thing overlooks brutal oppressions, where people struggle in totalitarian regimes, and often die by the thousand. And the Bush doctrine of spreading democracy is no panacea, since the culture itself needs self reliant people to support a representative government. That's my struggle ... forever battling against TheNarrative of the left. Posted by: illiniwek at December 15, 2018 01:27 PM (Cus5s) 210

I don't think the cranky scolds are anything new. But in the past they were forced to get out a typewriter, compose some sort of nasty message, sign the letter with their actual name, fold the letter, find an envelope and a stamp and mail it off. Whereupon the shop owner would open the letter, crumble it in his fist and the matter was done. Now, through the power of Facebook and Twitter they can find people just as cranky, just as mean-spirited, and they can sic a mob of bitter angry scolds upon the shop owner. I hope our poetic and benevolent dictator to-be will shut down those two platforms as his first official act. In a limerick, of course. Posted by: Newest Nic at December 15, 2018 01:46 PM (jYje5) 225

I have teachers in my family, some of them in middle schools. They've moved into private schools because that is one of the few places who allow them to teach critical thinking and reading comprehension. Most of them have students who are now in college. Many of them come back to thank them as they believe those lessons helped them more than others to make intellectual decisions and conclusions. I don't believe it's lost yet. I also believe that when some people see they've been used as dupes in someone's political games, they won't be happy. Ron Paul is the bull and TP's boyfriend is the cuck?

ROFL....I am legitimately crying I am laughing so hard right now. Anyway....he didn't say he doesn't wanna do it....he just said he doesn't think about it in his memories. He just does it bc he thought I wanted to. So now I am wondering what I have done wrong to make it such an unpleasant experience for him. I've never discussed politics while having sex. I do kind of go off on tangents and give my political opinions during prayer time, but never during sex.

Is Ron Paul why your boyfriend cries during sex? Maybe talk about Rand instead. Same initials.

Now, I am finding out he doesn't even like Ron Paul. I want to crawl in a hole and die.
Posted by: TickledPink at December 15, 2018 02:15 PM (VpnSm) Not everyone is a libertarian, dear. Perhaps you can find common ground, even if he is conservative. I mean, at least he isn't some Third Wave Feminist or transnational socialist, I hope. Just focus on free markets and gently bring him around to voluntarism and property rights, and you will be doing him some good. Posted by: Kindltot at December 15, 2018 02:25 PM (mUa7G) 281

No but when your bf has been acting like a libertarian for 8 months, it is a bit out of the blue when he admits he's never been into it. Like....who are you? Posted by: TickledPink at December 15, 2018 02:28 PM (VpnSm) 284

Tickled Pink, to be honest, it sounds like you two need to stake out some time and just talk, and try to work on communication.
It is easy to get into trouble in a relationship when you base it on assumptions. I'm not good at it, but I see the issues it causes in my own life. Posted by: Kindltot at December 15, 2018 02:35 PM (mUa7G) 288

Yes, I suppose that's sweet. But, what red-blooded American male doesn't enjoy Ron Paul? It makes me worry there is something wrong with me and my libertarian phrases and views more than anything else. Posted by: TickledPink at December 15, 2018 02:36 PM (VpnSm) 289

Unrelated to my pitiful sex life....
my Mom has had her eye on this fancy schmancy face moisturizer stuff for years...but she has never bought it for herself. Well, this year I bought her some. And, now I am worried she might take in the wrong way. Like I am commenting on her wrinkles or something. Posted by: TickledPink at December 15, 2018 03:05 PM (VpnSm) I wouldn't spend a moment fretting about this. I know women in their 20s and 30s who are fanatic about skin care, one of them is already all botoxed up. Posted by: kallisto at December 15, 2018 03:08 PM (kD8Fh) 304
Why don't all those bitter and unhappy souls just end it all? By their own words, it appears nothing can be done to make them happier or, at least, less unpleasant. Their near constant kvetching makes matters miserable for the rest of us, too. Posted by: Krebs v Carnot: Epic Battle of the Cycling Stars (TM) at December 15, 2018 03:24 PM (VkjjC) 305

As usually, the Left is utterly clueless. It's not that people don't' understand them that's the problem. It's more a matter that the people who were able to successfully resist being conditioned and indoctrinated into believing Commiecrat agit-prop know them ALL too well and the dangerous ideology they represent, and want nothing whatever to do with their noxious nostrums.
