Someone linked to this in one of the threads this week. I approve.

She has a Deco look to her, particularly about the tits. But it's Scandi and differentish. 1926?

Also I like the way she's Goddess-spreading. It's inviting.

31 John Bauer is famous for his depictions of Norse mythology and folklore. He painted a variety of Norse Gods, Freyja probably the most prominent. Lots of gnomes as well. You would probably recognize them if you saw them. He died young, in a semi-canoe accident.

37 Just watched an exchange between Kevin "California Dreaming" McCarthy and Steny Hoyer and I got to say Steny Hoyer got right to the nub of it and showed McCarthy and the GOP to be the useless piles of dog shit we knew them to be.

They are arguing over border wall funding and McCarthy was haranging Hoyer over funding and Hoyer quite rightly said, to parapharse...

Hey dip shit, you've got 240 members you need 214 to pass a bill, why don't you guys proposes a bill and pass it and stop this bullshit game.

McCarthy meekly said, well I hope you guys understand how hard it is to govern when you take over.

I fucking did a spit take of my coffee when that stupid mother fucker said that.

I'm pretty sure the Donks will have no trouble at all coming up with 214 votes for anything and everything they want.

That one exchange there encapsulates and demonstrates in the starkest terms possible the the GOP is an illegitimate political party in all that entails.

The sine quo non of a political party is the accumulation of political power to advance an agenda broadly supported by your coalition and voters.

That exchange demonstrates that that supposition is a lie as applied to the GOP.

95 In Wagner's opera Das Rheingold, king of the gods Wotan (Odin) agrees to give his sister-in-law Freia (Freja) to two giants to do with as they will in exchange for building him a castle, Valhalla. Now, not only will this enrage his wife Fricka when she finds out but Freia is the only one who can grow the apples that make the gods immortal. Without the apples, the gods will age, sicken and die. And Wotan does this on the advice of Loge (Loki), not known for his honesty, who basically just tell Wotan it'll be cool.

That's some real good thinking there, Wotan. No wonder you're king of the gods.

The sine quo non of a political party is the accumulation of political
power to advance an agenda broadly supported by your coalition and
voters.

They simply do not care about anyone except that they have power and are able to make lives miserable through the exercise of it. They have theirs, they have plenty of money and nothing to worry about. They're greedy, egotistical and arrogant. They never give one second of thought to how they'd feel if the situation was reversed and they were to have their lives destroyed instead.

125 John Bauer is a bit different from other Scandi painters. Instead of homelife scenes, often in bright light, his scenes are typically outdoors, harkening to older times. They are also rather stylized. I don't know if Art Deco is the correct term but it has that feel for me. When illustrating folk tales, Bauer's work is not playful but there is a sense of whimsy. I think his images, including this one, to be evocative and suitable to his goal.

I find his style very similar to JRR Tolkien's when Tolkien did his more formal drawings. They are roughly from the same period.

I have a Thesis In a Box idea for a film student, but even though my No. 1 Son was a film major he didn't have to have a thesis. Also they didn't show him any foreign movies, but I digress. He got a stupid degree. Really, I taught him more than they did. I continue to digress.

There is a 1924 silent, Die Niebelungen, by Fritz Lang, which was heavily cribbed by Kurosawa for Ran.

Everyone says "oh, Ran is Kurosawa's take on King Lear". Yeah, no. It's Die Niebelungen. You've got the girl forced to marry the enemy warlord, check, she spends the whole movie plotting bloody revenge, check, she succeeds in destroying everyone and everything, check.

Also, the scene where the castle burns is basically a shot for shot steal.

Now, nobody knows this because who would watch both the Niebelungen (about six hours of silent film) and Ran? Well, I would. But I don't have a film thesis to defend.

159 Kreplach there's only one group that is responsible for allowing the situation to develop and persist - voters. True that in a two-party (de facto) system there is a huge amount of inertia, and thinking voters are trapped when neither party is acceptable. But GOP voters (whatever their registration) have, bottom line, allowed and enabled what has become farcical performance by the GOP when in power.

Trump is a unique phenomenon in our history, and truly represents a desperate attempt to break out of the trap - and largely for specific reasons. But he made no effort to push the change into the GOP itself, apart from 2 or 3 spats with specific senators. And now we sit just one brief cyclical economic dip and one airhead Dem presidential candidate with the right skin color or genitalia away from almost everything Trump has accomplished being washed away in a few weeks.

But come on, let's be fair-minded. There will be historic prison sentencing reform next week! Almost certain to be a disaster, not to mention a direct blow to a drug war that is almost entirely a cross-border gang war enabled by GOP/Dem borderless idiocy. But ..... historic, likely to gain Trump at least 1,458 votes from the black community, and comforting to moral narcissists in power! And all those chants of "prison sentencing reform, now!" at Trump rallies can be retired.

I did not say he "invented it". I said he implemented it for the US.

The American System program was invented by Henry Clay and the Whig Party before the Civil War but it was not implemented because the South vehemently opposed it and was successful in blocking it until after they "left" the country and gave Dishonest Abe a free reign over the North. The first major project was the Transcontinental Railroad which was a major disaster due to rank corruption.

The wiki captions it as an oil sketch, 1905. But in the narrative of his life it talks about him portraying his wife Ester nude in a Freja painting and that's 1917.

If you look at his other paintings as a sort of progression, ours fits in better with 1917. (A 1913 Freja is much more primitive). So I'm going with this is 1917 and it points toward Deco because Deco is about to happen.

I'll have to look into that ... more recently, the "Chicago School" eliminated the responsibility of American business to have any regard for America.

"For example, the Business Roundtable, a forum that represented CEOs,
stated in 1981 that "the long term viability of the corporation depends
upon its responsibility to the society of which it is a part".

That view changed in the 1980s spurred on by Milton Friedman and
others affiliated with the "Chicago school" of free market economists
who argued the "only social responsibility of business is to increase
its profits".

428 Interesting minutiae for those deep in the weeds on the Flynn situation.

"Jeff at themarketswork" (his twatters nic) muses that the footnote in the sentencing memo getting all the attention, because it appears to imply that Flynn's interview summary (the FBI Form 302) was written up 8 months after the fact. Which would be a big issue for various reasons.

But the language of the 302 seems to indicate it summarizes an interview *of the FBI agents involved, Pientka and Strzok*, not the infamous ambush interview of Flynn in the WH.

Which would result in one big "never mind", in the ongoing saga.

435 427 rather doubt that TFG gets calls from bill collectors every day because he doesn't have the money to pay for medical bills. He's got his and he doesn't give a rat's ass about anyone else who's suffered from the shit he did while in office. BJ Cliton is another one. He gets to live the high life as a reward for destroying mine and millions of other people's lives. Must be nice.

And, this is what angers me the most. PDT has done zero that I can discern to harm millions of Americans, but obama did so, gleefully. But, which man is being threatened by prison for not only himself, but his children? Horribly disheartening.

Probably the best pocket knife out there. Get the Delica or the Endura with the Emerson feature.

I also like Cold Steel's folders. I always have one or both.

Consider doing a crowdsourcing thing. Other people have. Plumfund is apparently not so SJW oriented and doesn't take so much off the top. People would help if they can, I'm sure, BB.

Also, as someone who has medical bills-we just pay a little bit at a time. As long as you're paying something that's the important thing, I think

Well I guess we will just have to agree to disagree.

Yes, yes, yes, yes, and yes. Their 'basics' (e.g. Endura, Delica) are very reasonably priced. The offer steels that others rarely, if ever offer.

Most if the iNet dealers offer them at a discount to MSRP.
