Should We Take Occasional-Cortex Seriously?
This Guy Says, "Yes."

The woman is a national treasure; everything she says is a wonder of stupidity and ignorance and vacuousness and best of all, cluelessness. She really does think so highly of herself that she doesn't bother to stop a bit and learn something about the topics she discusses. We are all luckier for her existence, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Besides, her presence in the next Congress is meaningless; her voting record will be exactly what her predeccesser's was.

But is she a threat? Is her rank stupidity simply not enough to prevent her insane ideas from going more mainstream? This guy thinks so.

Why The Right Should Start Taking Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Seriously

Yes, the tweet was incorrect. Yes, it would be nice if the people in our government had some actual knowledge about the things they talk about. Still, it is critical for folks on the right to avoid the mistakes made by the left. We must learn from how they treated (and treat) President Trump and endeavor not to make the same mistakes.

Do not underestimate this woman, and do not think your savage mockery of her stupidity will be an effective tool to stop her. It won’t. It will instead be personalized by her supporters, creating an army that will lay down and die for her (or at least vote for her), just like the army Trump has. You should be afraid of Ocasio-Cortez. Be much more afraid than you are.

I think his comparison to Trump is interesting but ultimately incorrect. There is a core of truth and undeniable utility in most of Trump's pronouncements as a candidate. Many of them were twisted beyond recognition by the media or simply truncated without the ability to appreciate his context.

Ocasio-Cortez is different. She really is stupid, and she is probably a bit nuts too. But that might not be enough...

7 I don't think we can dismiss anyone but this one is stupid. Trump has a proven track record for not being stupid. He's a very successful man. That is why I think what he says doesn't matter to me, it what he does. On the other hand this one is seriously confused and has had very little life experience. There is not track record for me to excuse things.

20 Honestly, she reminds me a ton of Obama when he first came on the scene. This new, fresh sensation with virtually no experience but the "sex appeal" of being a minority.

She's pretty enough to get the very shallowest of the shallow voters (like Obama....decent looking, except for the big ears, but voters thought he was soooooooo good looking. She has her nerd glasses that I think she uses as some sort of tactical device, but those same voters will talk about how beautiful she is, just bc she is passable and exotic to them)

I won't be shocked if she gives some sort of rousing coming out speech at the DNC (similar to Obama) and then in 2024, when she qualifies, is the heir presumptive.

Trump has tapped into the Brash American Alpha Male personality that built this country.

49 Of course we should take Occasio-Cortez seriously. Historically, stupidity has never been a bar to influence or power or impact on events. The cynical take is the opposite is true: stupidity, derangement, & bad judgement are usually the drivers. She is also one of the first Democrats to announce that she is, in fact, a socialist.

Remember: although an avowed socialist, Bernie Sanders was an independent although he caucused with the Democrats. He wasn't technically a Democrat until he sought the Democratic nomination. Occasio-Cortez is a Democrat. Her election to Congress as a socialist is a big deal and it doesn't bode well.

57 We're not closing the border, probably ever, certainly until 2021, at the earliest.

Speaking of which, as I've been noting here for a while, in-migration (this is my term to capture both good ol' fashioned illegal border crossing, and the newest teen craze, which is systematically exploiting the asylum law/procedure flaws and general lawlessness in which "family units" are, in effect, *officially squired in, taken care of, and released, by the BP, never to be seen again, for the most part*) is surging.

There was a "Trump effect" that lasted through much of 2017, on all kinds of in-migration, but that faded, and has now been replaced by what could be called a surge. A hot economy, a fundamentally unserious country, a GOP that is just as dishonest and irresponsible as the one that helped spur the amazing but utterly failed Tea Party phenomenon, and now an electorate that has given a ridiculously fringe and repellent Dems the House - these are all the incentive and clear signal the rational actors south of the border need.

Don't think the dumb young woman will rise any higher than the House, or even last that long there. But the tipping point on borderless, lawless America may have been reached, and Trump's election didn't even defer it until he was gone.

But the difference is Trump has the benefit of real skill in manipulating opponents into inadvertently acting in Trump's bests interest. That's why Trump is a winner and Palin/Cortez are ultimately losers.

65 I think what Mr. Kelly is saying in that Federalist Article is that in a democracy the majority of voters can decide what they want for Christmas and who they want to be Santa Claus and we, the people who understand these things, should not take the democratic majority for granted.

Left unsaid is that when the democrat majority of voters get their Santa Claus, Santa's little helpers help Santa Claus rewrite the laws to favor Santa and His Helpers. Once that has happened, as in Venezuela or the Once Great State of California, there isn't any way to vote your way out of the mess. There also isn't any way to legislate better public policy, nor will litigation make any difference because Santa Claus and his Elves control everything.

Let's take her seriously. But, her election speaks to the mindset of our enemies. So, let us make unending fun of her. Ridicule is always a wonderful and effective weapon in our political arsenal.

So take her seriously to understand what we are up against but point, laugh and call her out on her idiotic utterances whenever she speaks one.
So, daily then.

I have a guy at work who kinda sounds dimwitted in his sentence structure, and he's very taciturn; sort of afraid to talk because he knows he always comes across sounding dumb.

It's the political machine that we should fear. If Loopy's congressional proposals ever gain traction, then we are doomed to sink into a Puerto Rican (if not Venezuelan) future: "Just pay for it!!11-ty!" + government irretrievably in debt, local disaster relief non-functional, disaster relief funds misspent / embezzled (BTW, where / how DID Loopy get her $3500 pantsuit and Manolo Blahniks?), historic/UNESCO sites left to decay ...

... unsafe for dogs to appear in public, even on a leash.

217 She is very typical of a fresh out of college female.

Not being sexist here as the males aren't much better but they're different somehow. Since most of them aren't photogenic or won a weird runoff election when they weren't supposed to.

They're not smarter but perhaps the topics they rave on are a bit different.

This person believes she has the answers and everyone else is wrong and everyone prior to now has been wrong and she is here to set things right.

She has a confidence in herself that is undaunted by being shown to be wrong. She will make a blithe excuse and be off on another topic without a look backwards and you are just a pebble in her path to be ignored or kicked aside.

This is also a trait of zealots and revolutionaries and in general enthusiastic intelligent young people. They know they're smart because they've got the grades and the accolades of their professors to tell them so.

If they run into problems it's not their fault, the problem is the result of others not accepting her vision.

And the amazing thing is, younger grads from 40 years ago acted the same way. There is always a group of them who are excited, enthused and convinced of the rightness of their cause whatever it happens to be.

And they are dangerous in large bodies. They are the shock troops of every cultural revolution for the last 100 years. They're also the first ones up against the wall after the old establishment has been replaced because they are dangerous and they will continue to demand that what they believe has to be done must be done. They do not face reality well.

221 Kreplach, nah. Who knows, I don't see these policies changing, really ever, into the foreseeable future. CA is or will be majority/minority soon - not a chance the lawlessness on immigration would change, or the mindset behind it.

If the electorate doesn't insist - insist - on a policy, it won't get it. "Supporting" one, even voting in the first outsider president in our history, isn't enough - or close to enough. To put it in recent practical terms, it would take 25 - 40 Dave Brat upsets *per cycle* to really change things.

But there's nothing remotely like that in prospect. Some are crowing that some particularly bad illegal mass migration GOP types got voted out last month. First, each case needs to be examined to see what role the issue played. Second, it's fairly meaningless. They were replaced by Dems. The lame-duck "GOP" Congress is set to run out the clock on half of Trump's term, having done almost nothing to support his most important agenda item (and not being forced to do so, or even a bit inconvenienced with any big votes or confrontations, by the WH).

Well I shouldn't say nothing. They're about to *increase* legal immigration, in effect, with changes to the H-1B system, most likely.

But prison sentence reform will pass! Trump will tweet ecstatically about it! It will be a BIPARTISAN (did you hear me, BIPARTISAN!) signing ceremony. It will probably be a disaster, in reality. It will surely result in ZERO political gainzzz for any GOPer, or Trump.

But at least the incessant chants of "prison sentence reform, now!!!" will stop at Trump's rallies, right?

All the Donks have to do is peel off a very small number of whites, which they have proven to be able to do relatively easyily and we are looking at permenant donk majoity similar to '35 to '94 but without the occasional Republican President.

231 "Do not underestimate this woman...."

Generally, I always suspect that a person who counsels you to do what the other side would probably like you to do is a traitor, a plant from the other side.

Same goes for a lawyer (they usually have to work with the same people every day), or a columnist like Bill Kristol, or a doctor who's living depends on you paying to have him cut you, and so forth.

"A prosecutor could get a grand jury to indict a ham sandwich." The Democratic party could get their voters to vote for Ms. Cortez for president in 2020, and 50/50 win, no matter what we do.

I'm going to do what wise people have said: just keep playing my game the same way.

244 McCarthy can be quite valuable when he sticks to the mechanics, in which he is an experienced true authority. Beyond that, he has shown himself to have horrible judgement about people and the state of the justice system, IMO. He also shows the standard Beltway cluelessness/squeamishness over Trump's style and behavior, but that's not important.

Last few things of his I've bothered to read strayed far outside his fairly small wheelhouse.

Actually his case is another depressing data point, in a way. He's very smart and able and probably has the highest integrity and is a true patriot, even a bit of a warrior in that respect. But the ground shifted under him (and all of us) to such an extent that he now can appear sadly outdated, out of touch. He's not the least bit responsible for the degradation of the institutions he served, or the civic culture, but he also doesn't seem to be aware of those things, much of the time.

But I have to question your assessment, a bit. I mean, McCarthy unveiled a BORDER SECURITY!!! bill. In OCTOBER of a mid-term year. After TWO YEARS of a House and Senate nominally in his party's control. He even made a trip to the border!

The crudeness and transparency of the grift from GOP types like McCarthy is actually troubling. Because it's not just a lazy, or default sort bit of political stuntery. It might rest on an actually documented assessment of GOP voter idiocy. McCarthy and Co. actually think a comically bad stunt, which only serves to draw attention to their 2 years of failure, will help them at the voting booth? That this could be any sort of rational calculation is in itself a devastating indictment of GOP voters, or the GOP, and probably both.

Yes it is

Long Island is a densely populated island off the East Coast of the United States, beginning at New York Harbor approximately 0.35 miles (0.56km) from Manhattan Island and extending eastward into the Atlantic Ocean. The island comprises four counties in the U.S. state of New York. Kings and Queens Counties (the New York City boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens, respectively) and Nassau County share the western third of the island, while Suffolk
County occupies the eastern two-thirds. More than half of New York
City's residents now live on Long Island, in Brooklyn and Queens.[2] However, many people in the New York metropolitan area (including those in Brooklyn and Queens) colloquially use the term Long Island (or the Island) to refer exclusively to Nassau and Suffolk Counties, which are mainly suburban in character, conversely employing the term the City to mean Manhattan alone.[3]

Barry had Communist groomers to keep him on the beam, even to the extent of hooking him up with a sistah because a white girl - e.g., like the ones he dated at Punahou - simply would not do for what they had in mind for him.

I think Loopy is a Communist walk-on, and doesn't have the same level of groomers as Barry did.

303 OT - wow, UK will sign the new "migration" pact. This hasn't had the profile in the UK it has in other Euro countries, but coming the same week as the almost certain-to-fail Brexit package ..... well, I guess the impotent displeasure of thinking Brits will just be that much more intense.

Belgium also announced it will sign, and the govt. there is in a bit of turmoil.

Protests in Sweden primarily about this issue, today. Former Warsaw Pact countries almost unanimously refusing to sign (not sure about Romania). Big issue in Italy.

Switzerland, last prosperous western European hold-out on all the idiocy of the EU etc., having to bend a bit for $$$$. Electorate voted down a measure to make Swiss constitution controlling over any int'l treaties, mostly due to business concerns. Seems the country as a whole still quite rational about keeping its independence (last few years have only reinforced that long-standing situation) - but they're facing a few show-downs with the EU, and the migration pact thing.

If I thought western Europe or the UK had it in them to actually change course, I'd say this would be a pivotal, epochal week. But they don't, and it won't be. Kind of sad, actually, to see the remaining intelligent people thrashing around as the vice closes more firmly. Don't mistake small, immaterial push-back (Danish putting on foreign felons on an island, Sweden trying to revamp its disastrous asylum/refugee/migration policies, protests this weekend) with real change.

That's true of a lot of Mediterraneans, especially N Africans. Many of the P Rican settlers were from Andalusia, where the N African strain is/was prominent.

What you need to do is talk to a hairdresser!
Asian/Amerindian "Mongoloid" hair is quite different from European or African hair. Show me a P Rican with Amerindian hair and I'll show you a weird anomaly.

BTW, over 75% of P Ricans --- I mean islanders, not Nuyoricans--- consider themselves "white." The great bulk of the rest call themselves black or mulatto. Very few natives even claim Amerindian blood, although transplanted chicanos (rightly) do.

341 The difference is the NeverTrumper meme..."He Fights!"

While certainly not the sole reason to vote for a person, it was a simple declaration that explained a person's support for him. We all knew that the news was incredibly biased and inaccurate. We all knew that Democrats were liars and crooks. And we all knew that Democrats could say and get away with anything...before Trump.

Then, he started saying what we all knew in the most satisfyingly insulting ways possible. He fights!

Crazy Cortez's problem is: "She's Dumb!" is not a simple declaration that one can use to explain support for her. Now she has been tagged as really dumb and vacuous and that is hard for people to associate with. People need something like "She is a socialist and I like socialism."

But if the response is "well, she is a socialist and she is stupid therefore socialism is stupid" she probably won't advance very far.

My experience with New Yorkers is that they prefer to think other people are stupid and not to be thought of as stupid. She won't survive her next election.
