New Jersey's Democrat Attorney General Orders Local Police to Reduce Cooperation With ICE, Turning NJ Into Another Sanctuary State

I seem to remember that the last time states engaged in repudiation of federal law and authority, it was considered a criminal insurrection justifying war; but now it just gets plaudits from the same progressives tearing down Civil War memorials.

"No law-abiding resident of this great state should live in fear that a routine traffic stop by local police will result in his or her deportation from this country," Grewal said.

Under the new rules, New Jersey police cannot stop or detain anyone based on their immigration status, cannot ask the immigration status of anyone unless it is part of an ongoing investigation into a serious crime, police officers cannot participate in ICE raids and ICE cannot utilize state or local resources.

Gov. Phil Murphy's administration has been working on revamping police guidelines regarding immigrants shortly after he was elected last year, according to NJ.com.

He said he would make New Jersey a "sanctuary state" during his campaign, but Grewal said the state would still go after criminals.

1 Kind of hard to find criminals if the police are told they cannot even look.

Congress can and should change the classification or marijuana, and/or completely get rid of the classification system. I agree completely.

That being said, they haven't done it. And now there are, what, 10 states openly violating federal law by allowing stores to sell pot? And 30-40 states violating federal law by allowing "medical marijuana" to exist, despite the federal government saying it's illegal with no known medical use?

...I don't think the fedgov is RIGHT here, but this is essentially nullification of a federal statute. Something that the states are not allowed to do (see: War, Civil for more info on that)

Even though I think Democrats want to gut the military, I will call out Republicans when the want to spend $1 trillion on a fighter jet program like the F-35. Not every issue has to be looked through a prism of "does this make my opponent mad?

Posted by: Skip at November 30, 2018 03:40 PM (6VrXf)

Eh, you can*. There's a federal law on this -- 18 USC 926A.

As long as whatever you have is legal where you started and where you're going, you can drive THROUGH a state where it's illegal, provided the firearm and ammunition are separate (so gun unloaded) and not in the passenger area of the vehicle.

*That being said -- the "drive through" part is taken very literally by states like NJ.

If you stop for gas, you're no longer driving through. If you pull over for any reason whatsoever (mechanical issues, for example), you're potentially in a fuckton of trouble.

So generally, I'd recommend against driving through NJ with a firearm if you can avoid it.

I think no.

I did this with Pop's 100 year old 1911 .45 that killed a German officer in the war. I had to transport it from Maryland to Maine up I-95. Look at the map at some of the states I had to drive through with that family heirloom in the back, locked up in its pelican case.

Mind you I have a Maine CCW (which we don't need up here because we have Constitutional Carry)

Maryland itself it was illegal for me to possess it. Delaware I'm ok because we have reciprocity.
NJ - fahgetaboutit
NY - LOL WHAT?
CT - Oh I'm dyin here.. just dyin....
MA - Holy crap my sphincter can't get any tighter
NH - FINALLY .... FREEEEDOOOOOOOOMMMMMMM!!!!

Basically just drive straight though. Do not stop. Do not get out of the car (convenient because if you need gas they'll fill it up for you there, whether you like it or not!) and just get through. There is some law that states that you can transport firearms through jurisdictions where you aren't permitted for them as long as you're on the most direct route. However my lawyer said that nobody has really "tested" those laws yet so don't rely on them.
Good luck!

The Righteous Jeff Sessions just moved too fucking slow on everything, but you have to pin some of that on the GSW who hired him.

NJ always suffered from being a state with wealth, but no real ballast of industry or community. The biggest influence has always been the state, criminal justice system, social workers, DOT, Teachers, etc. They run the state and it is in their interests to make the state more dependent on them and their services.

And yet they still get lots of revenue due to many people living and working in NY. Many corporate offices in secluded enclaves but without the large operations that can influence a districts's politics.

And no real media since the local media is all out of state.

234 Laws are selectively applied to punish opponents of the Deep State and state and local governments openly defy federal law.

A hallmark of every totalitarian system in history is that the laws are for the most part entirely reasonable-sounding, and support the basic protections of society in theory against rape, murder, arson, etc. The point of them is in injudicious application, intended "unintended" consequences of poor structure, loopholes, and making sure that power is placed in the hands of those who shouldn't wield it.

I mean, the Soviets were great on murder and robbery on paper, right? And if these guys were good at tracking down officially recognized murders, then anyone opposing them was on the side of the murderers, right?

Rule-Of-Man systems always have "good" laws at least to a veneer depth, which is why it's historically easy to craft them out of systems respecting Rule Of Law. For a time, anyway.

273 I hope someone wiser than me knows the answer but I always feel that if these cities and states get hit with lawsuits for aiding and abetting these people, they are liable for the crimes they later commit. They have paid out to families of victims involved in police shootings. Why not this? I am sure after so many payouts, the municipal and state governments will have to stop their policies out of financial necessity. I am surprised this hasn't been tried. Why not?

I would also love Trump to come out and say "You know, we just aren't going to enforce copyright laws. They aren't hurting anybody and Obama himself said "At some point, you've made enough money." I think the media would change their tune REAL fast if this mentality hurt their bottom line and had to pay for their own bullshit. Online pirates haven't killed anyone.

Same with LA. And much of PA. And much of many places I have lived.

And even the Left agrees, since they all live in enclaves and protected areas, or in high cost neighborhoods.

CNBC did a "worst states in the union" article and many of them are on the "worst" list because they aren't lefty enough. For example:
Missouri has one of the highest rates of violent crime in the nation. In 2017 the state reported 600 murders, an 11 percent increase from the year before. Missouri could also stand to show some more inclusiveness. According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, the state lacks protections against discrimination for LGBT people, as well as discrimination laws related to employment, including protections for age and marital status.

2018 Quality of Life score: 101 out of 300 points (Grade: F)

Weaknesses: High crime, health, lack of inclusiveness

Strength: Air quality

Ordinal directions are part of the evil white racist patriarchy, and espouse the view that commenters should be cognizant of inherently fascistic characteristics like north and south.

This distorts their natural direction-fluid state, and imposes toxic masculinity on them by making
them believe that they know which end is up.

If just left alone, the commenters here are, of course, trans beings who may wish to reject the socially constructed compass assignment
their caliginous patriarchal parents callously have imposed on them, and self-reassign to one of the infinite+ other directions that the cisheteropatriarchy brutally represses.

No, it taught them that taking over government arsenals wasn't the way to go, the real answer was to take over pretty much the whole government.

410 Robbing a bank is a federal crime. Maybe the feds should announce a strict 'no response' policy to bank robberies in sanctuary states. Hilarity ensues.

How about taking an eternity to process the paperwork to wire school funding and highway money to the states?

The pols there probably don't give a care about bank robbery given that Jon Corzine, a NJ Senator and Governor there was a major bank robber - to the tune of losing over a billion in co-mingled investor money.

415 In the morning paper two days ago it was announced that here in NJ lawmakers were working diligently to create a second type of driver's license for undocumented immigrants.

Do a search for the Star Ledger, drivers licenses and undocumented.

I am not making this up. This is how they speak and this is how the newspapers report it and they truly believe their own lies.

The 'undocumented' - that's ILLEGAL to folks like you and me - won't have to provide the same kinds of ID that us regular, lawful citizens do to procure a license. Supposedly they'll still need to have valid car insurance.

So now the insurance agencies will be complicit in this lawlessness?

Meanwhile, my own daughter who was born a legal US citizen had to provide the 6 points or whatever-they-are-calling-it-now forms of ID to get her license renewed.

To add insult to injury, while we were waiting a the cashier at DMV, they have signs posted which state that it wearing 'head coverings' in license IDs due to religious reasons is now permitted.

Why do we even have laws in NJ?

Owning a hotel that rents a Russian a room for the night is Treason.

Posted by: Blue Bird of F'ing Joy at November 30, 2018 04:33 PM (lD3vL)

422 90 OK, if US lawyers can sue ICE/DHS on behalf of illegal alien invader then why can't citizens of cities and states declared "sanctuary" sue these leaders?!?
Particularly, why can't they sue when they or a loved one is a victim to a criminal given sanctuary by city/state authorities?
__________________

In the Steinle family's lawsuit against SF and its officials, the judge who dismissed the claims said that there was no law that required the sheriff's dept. to share Sanchez' (the illegal alien killer's) release date with ICE, and no law that forbade the sheriff from establishing the non-cooperation (with ICE) policy.

Presumably, if there were such laws, then they could have proceeded with the lawsuit.

But such laws will never be passed by either congress or CA, because both entities are controlled by open borders zealots who have decided that it is not "fair" that the U.S. should be owned by its citizens, and that all the world has the right to live in America.

428 I had this interesting thought driving home today....

What's the "atom" of politics?

Or what is the universal principle of politics?

Everybody wants their way.

It seems that the world has mostly evolved away from the way of one man--or a small number of men--or the way that is immediately detrimental to your situation.

The Meek will inherit the Earth is both the most unforeseeable prediction and as a result the most dramatic change. (And in my view, 100% predicated on the Christian etho-sphere.)

Even classic Strong Men, these days have to at least play to the values of the Meek.

That's the thing about being what I would call a Theological Relevationist or Collaborationist.

I'm not saying that the modern nod to The Meek is the fulfillment of that prophesy, at all. However one student of the Bible who has always been innovative, as well as disciplined once related that the OT tradition of prophesy is *not* prediction, but is also highly suggestive of *pattern*.

However, it is still dramatic enough to be indicative of Jesus' sui generis status as a predictor of what could come.

Now, to you and I, he is Lord. But I am always looking for that analytic angle that makes Jesus singular. By way of approach, Jesus is not singular because he is Lord, he is Lord because he is singular.

Which makes it much more in line with my efforts at analysis.
