He had some unknown bone disease (possibly genetic) that caused his legs to repeatedly fracture and not grow properly.

According to Wikipedia, he also reportedly exhibited precocious puberty and hypertrophied (i.e, enormous) genitals.

29 Disappointed this isn't an animated GIF.

Aren't they those two lez lovers from the Supergirl tv show? Oh, no, wait, they broke up.

That's one of the most awkward kisses I've ever seen depicted, although I might've been in that position myself. It's the noses. Whose idea was it to put noses there anyway?

Most intriguing... who is that peeking in from the upper-right of the painting. Too obvious for a sniper...

52 > The muslims have guns and rocket launchers(yes in France in Paris). Trying to run them out would be extremely dangerous.

The French actually have most of the Muslims isolated in outlying "villes" that are only connected to Paris proper by roads that are at the bottom of gigantic concrete-lined ditches with concertina wire at the top (i.e. killing grounds).

The French have their issues but bleeding hearts toward violent minorities is not one of them.

Yeah, but the French weren't dumb enough to put them right in the middle of the city.

"Clichy-sous-Bois (French pronunciation: [who gives a shit, blog doesn't like it]; is a commune in the eastern suburbs of Paris, France. The vast majority of its population is made up of African heritage, and the BBC described it as one of France's "most notorious" immigrant banlieues (suburbs). It is in this city that the 2005 riots started. Clichy-sous-Bois is not served by any motorway, major road, or railway and therefore remains one of the most isolated of the inner suburbs of Paris."

Agreed. Something should of been done before the midterms. The commiecrats implemented voter fraud here in MI in 2016 (Stein's attempt to recount in Detroit proved that) and there was no doubt fraud in 2018 too(most blacks didn't vote for Stabby Debby, they voted for John James). And that's why the commiecrats desperately want to eliminate the electoral college.

142 The painting is interesting on several levels. I don't know how lesbianism was viewed in 1890s Paris but this scene is gentle and affectionate. It's not the steamy stuff that seems to be the expected these days. It's mildly erotic with the emphasis on mildly so it isn't pornographic.

It is the colors and brushwork that capture my attention. There's nothing harsh in the color scheme, in fact it is mostly cool shades that match the relaxed mood of the figures. Also, the brushwork suggests to me gentle rainfall, again, enhancing the relaxed languor of the scene. I don't know if that is a Post-Modern technique or deliberate decision by Toulouse-Lautrec.

I suspect I'm missing some aspects of the painting that make it effective.

185 Reposted from the ONT:

527 Dearest Horde - I have an urgent prayer request from/for grammie winger.

Her husband took her to the ER yesterday because her right side went numb. Her face is paralyzed and she cannot see well. She is very shaky and can't see out of one eye. They are checking for stroke, TIA and Bell's Palsy, and also a lupus flare which may be the underlying cause.

She asked me to let you all know and to please pray for her that goodness and mercy may follow her all the days of her life.

Please pray for her complete healing and for peace and comfort for her, and also for the Rev and her family. This dear lady who is so much a part of our "family" here has prayed for all of us and now needs us to do the same for her.

Please pray in any way you see fit. I invite my fellow Catholics (and anyone else, for that matter!) to join me in praying Mother Teresa's emergency novena, which is to recite the Memorare Prayer nine times in a row:

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

I will send this prayer request to Fenelon and also post it whenever I can today. I will let you know as soon as I hear anything else from her.

Thank you!

He might have been duped into believing that it was our old vision of the triumph of the American way in the post-Cold War world, and not the erection of an undemocratic transnational bureaucracy, nor the establishment of a new ruling aristocracy.

245 The American media continued to misreport the Gilets Jaunes protests in France yesterday. They have omitted major issues that are driving the protests.

It is not just the fuel taxes and the high costs of living. That's bullshit. People in France don't get out of bed for that crap. They're socialists. They get used to it.

They are protesting the government taking over their lives. The government mandates that drivers have/wear those yellow vests. That's the symbolism they are fighting against. Government nannyism.

Just like Obama took over our lives with Obamacare and environmental regs.

Macron is raising taxes to control the behavior of the people, not to pay for government. That is what pisses these people off. A tax is not intended to pummel the people into behavioral changes -- especially over something as questionable as climate change. How will Macron know when to cut those taxes, or if they are working? He can't.

This uprising is their Tea Party moment.

249 norther,

Thank you!

357 Missed Mr. Sefton's informative MR, but if anyone wants to lay blame on a FL official for Brenda Snipes, the SOS Ken Detzner, should be front and center. I bl that Scott thought Snipes would be neutralized bc there were to be SOS election monitors for Broward, onsite. Detzner chose two twenty-somethings that looked like Snipes' niece and nephew and completely clueless. Of course, they reported nothing was amiss, so even though Snipes ignored all the necessary reporting requirements, Detzner reported the "monitors" saw nothing wrong and the reporting was fine. Detzner is a Scott appointee, former D turned R, and he could have stopped Broward's never-ending counting the Wednesday after the election, but he didn't. It took strong arming by Scott to get him to refuse to take new numbers after the unofficial tabulations were due on Saturday, following the election. He has a history of bad-mouthing Katherine Harris (who was actually elected to the SOS position), but his behavior was worse, imo, bc he refused to do his job.

One would think that a prostitute would be more fearful of contracting something from kissing her fellow whores than from a comparatively 'clean' dude from the outside.
I don't know. But still don't buy the two chicks theory.

Sounds too much like wish-history invented by lesbian studies professors.

Yup, there were trends that started under Bush 41, that never stopped.

Like the destruction of tradition in the Military... trying to make it more 'corporate'. Hell, we had outside 'Facilitators' for Total Quality Management coming in to tell the military how we were supposed to lead in Combat?

Vision statements? Hell, I was asked at one Seminar, ON MY F"N SHIP, who my customers were and how I 'serve' them.

Went around a circle and asked mixed crew members this... cook said, well, the guys I cook eggs for... Supply guy said, guy I get parts for....

Got to me, and I said 'customer? The poor dumb son of a bitch who was on the receiving end of the missile we just shot, and we deliver...

Civilian Female 'Facilitator' was not pleased by my response.

The Paris Fire Brigade is part of the French Army, but not the ambulance drivers.

I hear that the middle class have yellow jerseys and no masks. The police leave them alone. But if you have a yellow jacket and wear a mask, you are an anarchist / Leftist / nihilist thug. Police hit those guys, a lot.

Models, too - for any reason. The lady who was the model for the Morgan Dollar was a chaste woman, and a schoolteacher. She tried to remain anonymous, and when it didn't work, regretted for the rest of her life that she had been outed as a model.

No, no! It's rape, then pillage, then burn.

Raping is a lot easier if you don't have your hands full of loot.

507 344--- Lautrec was mainly a graphic artist, doing posters.
That's not art. And here, you can still see the pencil outlines of the drawing. That also disqualifies it as art. It's just an illustration for a harlequin novel cover.
Posted by: Steve and Cold Bear at December 03, 2018 10:39 AM (/qEW2)
----------------------------------
If it's not art, why did you call him a graphic artist? Why not call him a graphic swimmer?
And since when is a pencil drawing not art?!?

The modernist notion that the only true Art is that which is done for certain supposedly "elevated" purposes --- (today meaning mainly narcissistic self-expression of feeeeelings or political activism)--- is nonsense.

What are Albrecht Durer's ILLUSTRATIONS of the Book of Revelation? Cupcakes?

There is bad art and good art, high art and low art, commercial art, technical art, didactic art, inspiration art.
Whatever. It's all art and there's nothing holy about that word.

couldn't have expressed it better myself.

A strange competition between the metiers of "art" and "illustration" has emerged in the minds of the general public. I've commented here numerous times that those artists whose work is derisively referred to as mere illustrations completed the same rigorous academic studies as Thomas Eakins, for example. CBD has even posted works by artists who did side work as illustrators. So does that diminish the painting of John Everett Millais, to name one? Toulouse Lautrec is an accomplished artist, period. His oeuvre encompasses so much more than the posters he delivered to the owners of the Moulin Rouge.
