Illegal immigrants cost the U.S. billions a year in health care costs that the illegals never pay for, a Forbes Mag. report says. And that is even though federal law supposedly prohibits this spending. Federal law claims that no federal dollars can go to pay for health care for illegals. Unfortunately, this is a smoke screen because literally BILLIONS of our tax dollars go to fund medical care for illegals anyway. Forbes magazine’s Chris Conover recent ran the numbers and came up with at least $18.5 billion of our tax dollars wasted on health care for illegal immigrants. Why wont the USA hold Saudi Arabia responsible? There’s One Reason America Refuses to Hold Saudi Arabia Responsible for Murder The apparent extrajudicial execution of Saudi Arabian journalist Jamal Khashoggi in Turkey on Oct. 2, 2018 seemed like a watershed moment in the protracted push to hold the autocratic, theocratic Saudi regime accountable. Besides being a "Journalist", He was also an Islamic terrorism sympathizer. As of late there has been a big push for more compassion in the criminal justice system. From prison reform to allowing felons to vote. #MeToo movement doesn't believe in forgiveness or compassion. Before killing himself with a drug intended for rapid and painless animal euthanasia, Richard A. Morrisett had endured a nightmare at the University of Texas in Austin. The 57-year-old tenured professor of pharmacology and toxicology was once a rising star in the College of Pharmacy – a man regarded as a first-rate research scientist and teacher during his 21 years at the state's flagship university. Morrisett's research offered new insights into alcohol-related brain disorders and alcoholism – an arcane area of research among neuroscientists. Some colleagues called him “brilliant.” Morrisett's career, however, was destroyed by a single newspaper article. Published by the Austin American-Statesman, a metropolitan daily, the article dredged up an ugly episode from Morrisett's past – a domestic violence incident involving his girlfriend at the time. Bill Maher is a fvcking a$$hole. Merely days after the death of the comic world’s superhero, Stan Lee, television host and political commentator Bill Maher has blamed him for creating a culture responsible for electing President Donald Trump. Lee, who died on Monday at the age of 95, was the creator or co-creator of characters such as the Fantastic Four, Thor, Iron Man, the Hulk, and the X-Men. How this led a generation to elect Trump is unclear from Maher’s post, titled “Adulting,” that he shared on his blog early Saturday. “The guy who created Spider-Man and the Hulk has died, and America is in mourning,” he wrote in his post. “Deep, deep mourning for a man who inspired millions to, I don’t know, watch a movie, I guess. Proverbs 5
For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil, but her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword. Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell. Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them. Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth. Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house... Yea verily, even the Wisdom of Solomon teacheth us that into the crazed thou shalt not stick thine rod. Posted by: mindful webworker - yes at November 18, 2018 09:44 PM (n3Kee) 2

Baby Sister Update: Birthday edition
Seems weird to write that title, but her long-time friend Sue D arranged for Joyce's Ohio folks to gather together to join in celebrating what would have been her 55th birthday. As Sue said in her invitation: "This gathering comes **EXACTLY** 25 years after having Joyce's 30th birthday party at my home! Even the same house! So I'm serving BW3 wings, as I did 25 years ago :-)" So we gathered this afternoon to plant this tree in Joyce's memory, and to share fond stories and memories (and some yummy wings). And guess who joined us? The one and only LadyL! What a treat to have her there to celebrate Joyce's memory. And of course this says so much for this community. I am so grateful to Sue for making this happen (and I'm sure that Joyce is, too). Posted by: ibguy at November 18, 2018 10:07 PM (vUcdz) 57

Posted by: Bertram Cabot, Jr. at November 18, 2018 10:00 PM (aKsyK) Honestly, I don't think it would be such a bad thing if they did. The film industry's probably brought some business to the state, but it's also brought in a bunch of hipsters and "artistes" who make Atlanta even more of a nightmare and turn Georgia that much bluer. And it gives the Chamber of Commerce crowd that much more leverage over the GOP. If a film boycott will weaken those two groups, I say go for it. Posted by: T at November 18, 2018 10:08 PM (Vgw1E) 63

The gas prices in France.
All the taxes from gas go to pay pensions for transit workers (bus drivers, the railroad, etc) that sort of work for the government. So all things considered, more people that get to retire at 55 or so want their pensions, and the rest of the country has to pay for them with higher gas prices, even though (actually) oil prices are falling worldwide. Pretty well. Work was uneventful (i.e., no griping from the usual negative nabobs), I started sound and light work for the community theatre's christmas play, and got to meet so new folks at a karaoke bar in the city. Beg to differ on who and when powder monkeys were created.
Can't say for sure off hand exactly when the job was created but it was created by the NAVY. The British Navy. The young were used because they could speed up and down the low ceilinged decks and in the magazine more easily than a full grown man or even teenager. Many or most powder magazines had thick wet felt cloths placed over small openings into the magazine where the Gunner mates put together the charges for the guns to prevent fire and explosions from setting off the powder. These charges were handed to the powder monkeys who scampered through the curtains and the short doors and up to their respective guns. This was probably also used in forts and such but they could protect the magazine better as they had only a few directions to be concerned about incoming. Most apprentices jobs aboard naval vessels were how the training of new sailors was done as it took years to impart all the knowledge of a master. However, her social skills seems to be underdeveloped. MSM is finally paying a bit of attention to the unrest in Haiti, at least the Miami Herald is.
Most of them are studiously ignoring it, which I'm sure has NOTHING AT ALL with the protestors being convinced that their "president" has siphoned off billions in earthquake relief money, in collusion with the Clintons. Their "president" did not travel to the Battle of Vertières commemoration ceremony in Cap-Haïtien today (contrary to long-standing tradition), opting instead to "lay a wreath" at a museum right across the square from his palace. I don't know how old you are, but rates drop dramatically as you age -- the first big milestone is hitting 25. After being a Ford man for all my years up till 2003 I was completely turned off by them after buying a Ford Ranger.
I had recently had a 1987 Ford Ranger and loved it. So I was all excited when I was able to buy a new car in 2003. Went to the Ford dealer and said get me one of those. I unfortunately did not do a test ride and when I got the new car realized they had changed so much about it from the older models that is was almost undriveable. Oh and it's extra special safety anti theft system failed on the 2nd day of ownership and I had to wait for 2 days for warmer weather before the truck would start.*grrrrr* 2. days brand new And all through it's 7 year life it provided me every day with reasons why I would never buy a Ford again. The very last thing was when I was trying to separate the transmission (manual) from the engine and could not get it to come apart. Still don't know what I did wrong or what special situation caused my failure. I needed to separate it so I could repair the hydraulic clutch (another 'innovation' that sucked) as a result I had to junk the car as I couldn't afford to have the work done. (best estimate was 1,000) I hated that truck and I've never hated a vehicle before. I have a Dodge right now that I've had longer than the Truck and was older than the truck when I bought it. Runs like a swiss watch. Go. Figure. I want a newer one but it's not going to be a Ford. And I regret to this day that I didn't go to the Toyota Dealer when I was ready to buy a truck back in 2003. ------------ Yup. Very illegal. In fact, my recollection is that here in California they even banned using zip codes to influence auto insurance rates in part due to accusations that companies were using them as a form of racism. "That zip code is mostly populated by people from that ethnic group, so we'll charge this rate instead of the rate that we charge in that zip code where another ethnic group is in the majority." Another thought, Hikaru: are you still paying for collision and comprehensive coverage on that 2009 car? That you have no bank loan on? Cancel that right out. Should save you a bundle on insurance. Figure the replacement cost value of your car, and take some of your savings, and put it in an interest-bearing account called "car contingency". If you have a mechanical issue, or a wreck, you can replace the car from your contingency fund. It's called self-insurance. You won't be able to do that with your liability insurance, unless you can post a bond of a couple of million dollars, though. But eliminating collision and comprehensive can save much $$$. And you can keep fire and theft on it quite reasonably, unless you are in a high-crime neighborhood, or own a theft-prone model.
I'm not a fan of car alarms; I regard them as useless, but some sort of secret disabling device, with a hidden switch, could foil all but the most resourceful car thieves. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at November 18, 2018 11:43 PM (fDU8w) 351

One time they had a contest where employees were invited to submit ideas for a new slogan. You know, "You're In Good Hands," "Like a Good Neighbor" type stuff. Knowing how they actually handled their claims, I submitted, "We're [ABC] Insurance Co. Fuck you and your claim." To my surprise, it didn't even make the Final Five. See the insurance companies unless forced to do otherwise (and then they lose money) assess risk. They don't care about social justice or profiling. The go by FACTS. And the fact is, driving/owning a car in a city is riskier than in the boondocks. More people, more crime, more chances of accident or damage. @ Hikaru.
Check and see if there's a Farm Bureau in your state. For example, here it's Texas Farm Bureau. In Florida it's Florida Farm Bureau. Same logo design, different words. You're simply not going to beat their rates, I believe. 'Cause their entire customer base are, like you, low-loss-experience, older than 25, safe driving record drivers. Moreover, because they really ARE a "Farm Bureau" that sells insurance, mostly to non-city dwellers... their customer base is overwhelmingly "deplorable", with all that entails as to work-ethic, responsibility, etc. As compared to the stereotypical citified rice-rocket driver who's street racing at 3 am, or any/all other higher risk factors one finds in the more crowded environments. You get a quote from Farm Bureau (if they operate in your State), and let me know how it comes out, okay? Jim Sunk New Dawn Galveston, TX Posted by: Jim at November 18, 2018 11:49 PM (QzJWU) 374

If you live in, say, Bridgeport, CT, you're chances of filing a claim are much higher then if you live in Brattleboro, VT. And the insurance companies have decades of data and a very healthy sample size. They hire the best actuaries in the world to correlate things like the kind of car you drive, the age and gender you are, the zip code you live in, etc. to your chances of making a claim. It's unbelievably accurate in the aggregate. Posted by: Harry Paratestes at November 18, 2018 11:54 PM (GBteo) Posted by: irongrampa at November 18, 2018 11:55 PM (S/hVx) 384

Posted by: chavez the hugo at November 18, 2018 11:47 PM (KP5rU) Heh. True enough. But they will chew up the transmission gears trying. I can tell this now, because, Look Ma, no ashtrays! Back in the 1990's when '80's and '90's Toyotas were getting routinely stolen because the punks had figured out how to quickly beat the ignition lock, a friend of mine theft-proofed his family's Toyota fleet by mounting an ordinary push-button switch behind the dashboard ash tray, wired into the crank circuit from the ignition switch. If the ash tray was pushed fully into place, it hot the switch button and completed the circuit, and the car would start in the usual fashion when the key was turned. With the ashtray pulled out even as little a quarter-inch, the circuit was broken, and the car could not be started with the key. So the drill was to drive somewhere, park, and give the ashtray a little tug to move it out a tiny bit. Upon reentering the car to go on, push the tray in, and start and go. He said passengers never even noticed him doing it. And if a thief enters the car, first thing they did was pull the ashtray out, looking for the spare key that many drivers stashed there. Failing to find that, they'd punch the ignition lock, and be unable to start the car. Most of those teenage thieves were not mechanically inclined; they learned to punch the lock because a buddy showed them how to do it. Hot-wiring was not in their repertoire. and they'd already wasted too much time on that car, so off to another. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at November 18, 2018 11:59 PM (fDU8w) 390

Time for the old folk who are retired and smiling about it all day. Never despair, good people. We WILL, because we're Americans, prevail through this the latest situation, as we have in the past. There'll be heartbreak and frustration along the way but victory is ultimately ours--IF we stay the course. So remember, we are Americans, thus that head is held HIGH and PROUD. Goodnite, good people. Be safe and sleep well. Posted by: irongrampa at November 19, 2018 12:06 AM (S/hVx) 401

My 2008 Suburban has a manual setting, and I can upshift and downshift by means of a little rocker on the shift lever itself. But even in manual mode, if I exceed certain RPM limits for the gears, either high or low, it will throw a shift automatically, to prevent damage to the engine or transmission. I have never driven a car with paddle shifters. Do they even have a clutch? I sort of assumed they were basically an automatic transmission with torque converter, that one simply shifted manually by means of the paddles. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at November 19, 2018 12:33 AM (fDU8w) That's what I was talking about. Though I don't think mine has an automatic shift at high thresh holds. Or if it does I've never been stupid enough to let it hit that RPM level. However it doesn't let you shift into a higher gear until you hit a certain RPM/Speed either. Like you can't go from 5th to 6th until you are like at 45 - 50 mph or so I think. Posted by: buzzion at November 19, 2018 12:38 AM (cAnNx) 488

Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at N your rocker switch is the same thing different location. the rev limitations are the same too. you will not be allowed to downshift in a situation that would over rev the engine and your transmission will shift when you are accelerating to avoid over revving too. not really necessary, mostly fun. Ahhh, being at sea . . .
1. The stars/Milky Way - like nothing you have ever seen before; 2. Sailing for a week on a sea that is smooth as glass; 3. Sailing through rough weather; 4. Seeing the horizon churn then seeing that churn get closer and closer as 50 porpoises rush to the ship to ride the bow wave . . . for miles. 5. Unrepping a carrier; 6. Re-enlisting a sailor aboard a CH-46 that is being jinked up and down and side to side during the swearing in by the really very un-funny pilot; 7. Standing on the fantail at night watching the phosphorescent sea critters churned up in the wake; 8. The smell of clean air. Posted by: Sharkman at November 19, 2018 12:43 AM (Kge8X) 493

I think they were on the steering column long before 4 on the floor.
Posted by: Evasiveboat42 at November 19, 2018 12:29 AM (Rz2Nc) They were all on the floor up until circa 1940. But not the little short stick we see now. A long skinny one that went directly into the top of the gearbox. Mostly three speeds, but some four, like on Euro cars. Then someone had the bright idea to put the shifter on the steering column, making the middle seating position on the bench front seat a lot more useful. The transmission got two short levers on the side, operated by linkage rods from the base of the steering column. Adoption of this happened over a 2-3 year span, IIRC. Most transmissions were still 3 speeds, and the same "H" pattern was used; its orientation just changed. There were a few 4-speed column shifters, too, but not many. The muscle-car era made floor shifters a thing again, but they did not revert to the long lever in the top of the box; they had a short lever, mounted on a support further back, and connected by short linkage rods to those selfsame two or three levers on the side of the tranny case. And Japanese and Euro cars used what was called a "remote" shifter. The lever sat in a socket at the rear of the transmission, and worked internal linkage rods that acted on the top of the gearset under the front portion of the gearbox cover. Datsun and Toyota, and practically any pickup made today with a manual shift. Front-drive cars nearly all had remote shifters of some sort, owing to where the parts have to be. I've bartended now for just over 25 years.
It's s weird profession, because generally you get people from all walks that have drinks and then tell you things that no person would share in their right mind. For years I've observed the steady, incremental downward slide of humanity, but lately it is just starting to weigh heavily on me. I'm used to hearing gripes from people about ex-wives, child-support, cheating husbands, asshole bosses and the like. But lately I can't help but notice the absolute degineration of society. I used to have the occasional oddball, be it drug addict, dumb slut, weirdo cross-dresser, etc, that came in, I'd endure the visit, and then I'd sit around with the regulars and we'd laugh about "that one time". But what do you do when there are more weird fuckers than you have normal human beings? What happens when the world is full of people that have no shame? Tonight at the bar I had two it-thing shemales with everything peirced and dressed as dudes talking about eating pussy, I had some girl telling me about how she used to be a stripper, but had to move out of Texas away from her kids to dodge meth charges and hooked up with a methadone addict here in Tennessee and had a kid, but he was shot and killed in a drug deal so she had herself tattted to commemorate him. She told me about her plan to beat a drug test so that she could get visitation with her 4 year old son, who was being raised by her grandparents. I had some millennial with a curly-Q mustache yapping about craft beer, yoga, organic colon cleansing and tiny houses. It occurred to me that I had no normal person to laugh at these people with. This is the new normal. And the next generation is going to grow up with this not as the occasional horror story, but as the common place reality. How fucked up are their kids going to be. That shit can't be good. It's f*cked. It's well and truly f*cked and it's highly depressing. I don't know that I hold any hope for the world my daughter will have to live in with weird, f*cked up, arrested development, Peter-f*cking-Pan non-human f*cktards she is gonna have to share society with. Jesus. The Lord can not come back soon enough to this degenerate, confused, sick-ass world to straighten sh*t out. If He doesn't, we are all and truly screwed. I had what would have been a perfectly beautiful young lady in as well that decided it was necessary to pierce her nose, eyebrow, and put those shower curtain grommets in her ears. She ordered a "Witches Brew" from me, which I'd never heard of. She informed me it consisted of Patron XO coffee flavored tequila, Diet Coke and 5 lime wedges. Really? This is what it's come too? I've spent this many years behind the bar to make that drink? No Jim, I'll take that bourbon neat, thank you. Posted by: Bitter Clinger at November 19, 2018 01:23 AM (x591V) 522

Gas costs $6.50 a gallon which is massively taxed because the current barrel price for petroleum is $0.92 a gallon. It would cost $65 to fill up an econo box and $110 to fill up the average SUV. I fill up roughly 4-5 times a month, so my costs would be $260-325 per month. No wonder they are rioting. I see Guiateen futures soaring in France. The key to a good english muffin is they need to be well browned almost crispy. It's not a bread substitute, McD's doesn't understand that. And then lots of butter. They forgot that too.

And the even crazier thing is countries like Norway have even higher gas prices, nearly $8 a gallon in Norway. We get all cranky pants when gas goes much above $2 a gallon, politicians would be dragged from their homes and beaten if gas prices taxed to those staggering heights. That may be what eventually goes down in France. Posted by: Kreplach at November 19, 2018 05:39 AM (qxq6t) 563

Lines are often long, yet move remarkably fast. Drive thru is the same way with double lanes and a very efficient through-put of vehicles. Inside, they will take your order, give you a stand-up thingy with a number for you to put on the end of your table. And your seat, put your numbered things were they can see it. Relax. Your food will be brought to you shortly. And the Ap makes it even easier if you want to order ahead. Posted by: Village Idiot's Apprentice at November 19, 2018 05:55 AM (cqNba) 588

When Bill Clinton and the Senate Rino's went along with his shitty trade deals and the shiv got stuck in the back of manufacturing jobs, millions of Americans lost their Monday through Friday jobs and landed smack dab in the service industry working 'flexible' hours. I've been telling the GOP politicians I know for years to cheat in elections. It is the only way to fix the problem.
You do know that there is a Double Standard. Compare and contrast when a D does something sinful. Say, like molest an intern in oval office or actually rape someone, The Party and the Enemedia (birm) treat it as a non-event. If it gets play, its only through alternative news methods. In fact, when the sexual deviancy bled into other areas and an investigation on suborning perjury, The Party believed that misdirection away from the perjury to the sex was the best media play. That is, adultery, molestation and rape charges are better than a perjury charge in the eye of the public. Compare to Larry Craig who was hounded out of his Senate office over having a "wide stance" in an airport restroom. Tom Price is condemned and chased out of office for his charter flights on small business jets, yet no one cares about Nancy Pelosi when she routinely has huge drunken orgies aboard tax payer funded C-32 (aka Boeing 757) because she can't be inconvenienced with having to make a fuel stop in fly-over-country on her repeated trips between DC and her district. The point being, the GOP can't cheat or even give the appearance of cheating (e.g. actually win) because: 1) The Enemedia will run 24/7 coverage until the "cheater" is not only run out of office, but is thrown in prison with everyone else who might have been nearby. 2) The Party itself will lead in throwing the alleged cheater under the bus, and will make all kinds of reconciliary efforts to award the offended party by vowing now to compete in that race for the next ten terms. 3) Anyone involved in that effort (consultants, pollsters, etc.) will never find work in the GOP again (but will gladly work for the opposition) 4) Will accept the charge that ALL GOP politicians cheat and will thus lay down and accept as a Party many of the demands levied upon them by the opposing party.
