An Unequivical Lesson On How Not To Deal With Terrorism

One of the goals of terrorist groups around the world is to provoke an overreaction from the government being attacked, and precipitating a backlash that weakens the target in the eyes of the world. Israel is no stranger to this, and has suffered that backlash no matter what its initial reaction. The UN in particular relishes terrorist attacks on Israel, because it can then trot out its tired old canards about disproportionate force and illegitimacy and a host of thinly veiled anti-Semitic and anti-Zionist arguments. They are followed by the same list of countries proclaiming their own moral superiority over Israel, while conveniently forgetting their own behaviors in response to terrorist attacks.

The unfortunate expectation is that no matter what Israel does in response to terrorism, or steps that it takes to prevent terrorist attacks will be seen by much of the world as inappropriate. So why bother trying to carefully titrate its response to the daily attacks on its land and people, whether by "lone Wolf" attacks at bus stops or concerted efforts to storm the border by thousands of rioters, or most dangerous, the launching of rocket attacks into Israeli cities?

What happens when Israel does not respond forcefully is exactly what just happened.

How Hamas Brought Israel to the Brink of Election Chaos

Israel’s defense minister Avigdor Lieberman resigned on November 14 in the wake of a ceasefire agreement with Hamas in Gaza. His resignation has now plunged Israeli politics into chaos as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu must juggle what’s left of his fragile coalition government and is being pressured to appoint Naftali Bennett, head of the Jewish Home party, as the new defense minister. Hamas, which has been challenging Israel with six months of protests and rocket fire from Gaza, has now achieved what it sees as a victory. Despite its inability to penetrate Israel’s defenses around Gaza, it may bring down the government.
The problem with Netanyahu's strategy is that after so many years, the pallies now know that what is inside the velvet glove is not an iron fist but a bowl of Jello. Until the people of Gaza are more afraid of Israel than they are their rulers, the attacks will continue, and Israelis will be killed. If Israel is to be vilified no matter what, then the rational response is to inflict maximum damage on its enemies until they lose the will or capacity to conduct terrorist attacks on Israel. If that means immediate artillery attacks on all rocket launch sites regardless of their locations? Then do it. If that means pushing back the border to provide more room for crowd control? Do it. If that means destroying all Hamas facilities no matter where they are? Do it.

Israel will be demonized no matter what. Why not get the best bang for that public-relations disaster buck?

15 I think Hamas already got their win when the Israeli government agreed to a cease-fire a week after saying the gloves are coming off.

A few months down the road the rocket and mortar attacks will start back up and then what? They'll threaten to take their gloves off again? And then probably agree to another cease-fire a few days after that.

16 I would adopt an ROE that ensures the fight will eventually end. Such as: every time a Hamas bomb gets thrown at Israel, the army goes in and annexes the place it came from. Permanently.
If Israel can only have peace by annexing every inch of land between the borders of Greece, India, and Sudan, and killing every Muslim there, then do it and get it over with.

Time to cut off all ties to the palis. Permanently wall off every road into Gaza and the West Bank. No more palis crossing into Israel for work every day. No more money, freight or anything moving in either direction. Let the PLO and Hamas savages figure out how to feed their own people, and run their own economy.

As bad as the recent weak responses are to pali aggressions, the current system of Israel subsidizing the pali economy is even worse. Like it or not, the palis are effectively independent, so kick 'em to the curb, sink or swim.

You'd think that was the point of the Florida law requiring reporting of the total number of ballots cast shortly after the polls close. But apparently you just slip some judge a few c notes and then you can keep the polls open, not report results, even collect ballots days after.

Not to say that some judge was bribed, but I would be disappointed if they did it for nothing but loyalty to the fascist party.

We need to tighten our turns so that we are inside of their loop. Somehow. While we hold full-time non-activist, non-agitator jobs.

Two Republican state lawmakers have released draft legislation that would address Indiana's lack of a hate crimes law by giving judges the ability to consider bias as an aggravating factor when considering prison sentences.

The draft covers bias-motivated crimes based on race, religion, color, sex, gender identity, disability, national origin, ancestry and sexual orientation.

Indiana is one of only five states without an explicit hate crimes law.

Gov. Eric Holcomb called on lawmakers in July to pass a hate crimes law after anti-Semitic graffiti was spray-painted at a Carmel synagogue.

Problem with that is the paliscum rocketeers don't care. They will fire their rockets by remote control, or with a timer, and will have unassed the area long before the rocket even ignites.

Israel needs to have AWACS planes in the air at all times, with special cameras (maybe AI-operated?) watching for paliscum setting up launchers. Keep watching until the rockets appear at the site, then call in artillery fire or a drone strike, before the rockets are launch-ready. That way, you destroy their ordnance, and kill some of the trained operators.

And if they use human shields? Fuck it, blast 'em anyway.

169 - Fighter Pilot McSally
Posted by: mikeyG at November 18, 2018 03:27 PM (LL1Be)

She was an A-10 pilot. Technically, that's not a fighter, is it? I appreciate the snark, though.

A girl fighter pilot. My ass.

171 McSally may not have been the best candidate but what type of person votes for her fucked up opponent? I blame the voters just like in Alabama.
Posted by: Lancelot Link Secret Agent Chimp at November 18, 2018 03:36 PM (2DOZq)

It's my understanding that it was a bitterly-contested primary, and perhaps many of Kelli Ward's supporters just sat on their hands rather than vote strategically for McSally.

172 Operation Mindcrime - brought to you by the letter "R".
Posted by: mikeyG at November 18, 2018 03:44 PM (LL1Be)

Well, that is how it should be handled. No "hate crimes" as such, but hatred as a motive for an actual crime to be an aggravating factor for sentencing does not seem out of line to me.

I hear it was Little Adam Schitt, so was funning on Adam Schitt taking offense at being called "little" because even he knows he is a Schitt.

180 Late to the thread.

Where to send Palis survivors to clear Gaza? Is any country on earth willing to accept them as new citizens? Maybe not Germany. Can't let them stay after you seize Gaza.

The Israeli action is mildly Darwinian. For Palis.

To be effective, Israel needs Egypt. Shooting to kill and wound at fence rallies is also effective over time. Operant conditioning.

One out of the box solution is to make Gaza a nation state. The first attack, declare war. Win, and rule. But what to do with the Pali survivors is still the stopping point.

Short of nukes....There isn't one.

I have to argue against that.

Nothing would have sent a clearer message to the world, and islam in particular, that US citizens inside our borders are off limits, than had we nuked the two cities in Afghanistan.

They expected us to and we are seen as weak because we failed to.

What exactly is the difference, AOP?

Murder is murder.

Enhancing the sentence due to divined thoughts and intent is Big Brother - no matter how you look at it.

185 CBD, I know this was supposed to be a somewhat disconsolate article, but I'm ABSOLUTELY ECSTATIC over your incrediible use of the word 'titrate'!! Since I work in chemistry and have even done my own titrations in the past, I could barely contain myself when I saw that sentence! You deserve an award for that usage! I haven't been in such raptures over a single word in ages.

(Of course, it's the immediate context that makes it so wonderful - this really is better than dark chocolate!!)

186 Hmmm.
I just watched DEATH WISH 3, the crazy over the top installment of the series with an insanely high body count.
Reading the reviews of this at IMDB was almost more fun than watching the movie.
