Election Night ONT (11/6/18 )

happy-hour-20161027-124.jpg

***

Is your occupation a leading indicator which way you swing politically?

Here’s a safe assumption: People donate to candidates who reflect their own politics.

This simple premise led Stanford academic Adam Bonica to analyze over 100 million US state and federal donations to determine the political ideology of people who work in certain industries. Bonica gave people liberal or conservative ideology scores based on the politics of the candidates they contributed to. Election agencies require donors to give their name, address, occupation, and employer when giving money to campaigns.

While his research was originally published in 2013 (paywall), Bonica ran the numbers again for us, this time focusing on giving from 2014 to 2018. In order to make sure the ideology score was robust, only people who gave $200 to at least two candidates were included in his analysis

Plenty of marijuana referendums on ballots nationwide today. If legalized, How much would you pay for a bong?

If there is a God and he is indeed omniscient, it is also true that he foresaw the human race’s ability to create a great many things that would change the world, improve the overall quality of life here on Earth, and maybe even one day move beyond it. I can’t help but wonder what the hell he would make of this $2,400 laser bong.

Sure could buy a shit ton of munchies with that kind of cash.

24 Losing the House isn't great, but two positives -

1. The media tried to gaslight this into a wave election for a solid 7-8 months and failed. Parties don't lose 3-5 Senate seats in wave elections.
2. Remember 2012 after the 2010 Tea Party wave? Trump will win re-election and carry the useless GOP to retaking the House. Keeping the Senate will be tough but every pick-up tonight solidifies GOP Senate control.

Let them waste two years RRREEEEEEing about impeachment while Cocaine Mitch keeps ramming judges up their balloon knots.

I'd be willing to bet the correlation between GOP reps losing their re-elections with those who voted against the tax cuts is almost 1.0

Posted by: DocJ at November 06, 2018 10:43 PM (nUFhj)

27 So even if the Dem's take the house (with a slim majority) what are they gonna do with a Republican senate that says "F*** you" to every bill
they send up? Nothing will get done without Cocaine Mitch approving of it.

My biggest concern right now is that Trump has
about 16 more judicial nominations to various appellate courts waiting for
confirmation by the senate. Cocaine Mitch needs to continue clearing
that backlog of nominees and use that leverage against the house -- "Oh you want
your house bill passed in the senate? Tell Chuck to vote all these nominees into their positions. Until then pound sand bitches."

Yes house
dems bills for impeachment will come up but they are dead on arrival in
a senate controlled by the GOP. So it will be sideshows from here until
2020 and I think that voters will get tired of that sideshow by then... kicking the dems out of the house.

Tonight is NOT the bloodbath that was predicted by the cucks and the left.

198 >>> Problem with MT is it's such a small state, population wise, that it only takes a few thousand Californians to move there to make a difference in elections.

I saw a thing that said there are more people in one specific county in CA than in 50+ other states in total.

This is why the electoral college is genius. It is also why dems do so much damage when even a small amount of them leave for red states. Does not take a lot of them to muck everything up.

So far Senate is at least +2 with pickups in IN, ND and still serious races in MI, Fl, AZ, MT, and MO.
Governor races in Deep Blue VT, MA, & MD, the GOP incumbents HELD (I'm in MD currently and even though Hogan is NY, he's still WAAAAAYYYYY better than Ben Jealous)
The House, I'm still not seeing Fox's projection that Dems definitely control house, I still think its gonna come down to +/- 3 or 5 races.

The left wants total control. Not just of politics, but of culture and religion, too. They are "The Good Guys", after all. Merely by virtue of existing and wanting to fix everything for everybody.

After Obama, they were on a grand trajectory towards that end, but Trump and "Trumpism" thwarts that. He is the embodiment of the red-pill phenomenon that terrifies the brainwashed, zombified left.

No. The Dems threw everything they had into this cycle and they got at best a narrow majority in the House. One that will be very vulnerable to every "centrist" with an ego or nervous red-state Dem. Meanwhile, their base is going to be frothing demanding that they go hard left.

All these black kids look like Bill Clinton. Funny, that.

Anyway, Idi said he thought that Mr. Hilter seemed like a nice fellow, but I told him I didn't like the sound of those 'boncentration bamps' and anyway Idi took one too many jars of Vaseline to the head in that Cuban homo farm and I told him to just write in Donald Trump on every spot on the ballot and everything would be fine.

Well, I voted straight (R) just to fuck with the progtard terrorists. Idi was having trouble and leaned out and asked for help. I just told him to go straight and he laughed and said he's never gone straight in in his life. I told him no shit, that's why he got neurosyphilis and his brain xray looks like a slice of Swiss cheese, and be quiet or we'd get in trouble.

Sure enough some election monitor minced over and hissed at us to be quiet. Sounded like steam escaping. He was wearing a Hitlery 2020 cap which I thought was illegal, but whatever. And then he stepped into the voting booth to help Idi. Well, I guess Idi needed a lot of help 'cause they were in there for a long time...

The election dude came out wearing a MAGA cap and walked away in a manly fashion, although as if his hemorrhoids were acting up, and Idi was humming show tunes. Whatever.

379 Ok, Fox had a really good interview with Sean Spicer.
Now that the Senate is "FIRMLY" in GOP hands, what does the post-midterm cabinet shakeup look like?
The obvious head on the chopping block is Sessions at AG.
So who would everyone like at AG?
My first choice is Ted Cruz.
Rationale: Ok, So I know he just got re-elected, but you have a GOP Governor back in the driver seat in TX (thank God). Cruz is solid conservative. You can still upgrade him to Supreme Court if RBG dies (but I'd prefer Amy Coney-Barrett to replace RBG).

I know the President's party always loses seats in the midterms (2002 being the big exception) and there wasn't a Blue Wave, despite the media and GOPe backstabbers dumping shit on Trump everyday. We still have the WH and Senate.....BUT - when I think of how the Dems have acted over the past 2 years - their stupid marches and riots and tantrums and underhanded bs with the Kavanaugh nomination - it hurts to see them rewarded in any way. All decent Americans should be revolted by their behavior. And yet, well, my 29 years have taught me that shitty behavior is often rewarded in this world and assholes thrive as often as not.

Senate: Pretty large gains (IN, ND, MO) with some possibles still too close to call (MT, FL), and a DAMN SHAME in MI.
Governors: Held in some deep blue states (MD, VT, MA), even though we lost (due to crap candidates/crap demographics/crap campaigns) in some blue states (MI, IL, NM) and one where we had a crap candidate/campaign (KS). For a very small net loss.
House: Still very tight, Fox is calling the final 224-211, but we'll see what the final results look like. A Dem +10 is NOT a mandate. And as MANY folks have posted, this may be an opportunity for the Dems to expose themselves.

He leads by .1 percent now, but on clicking on the AP map of Wisconsin Counties, I see that Brown County has still only reported 45 percent of their votes - and Walker is leading their by over 16 points. The reason I'm hopeful is that both red and blue counties are hanging on to their votes - but in the blue counties that are left, Evers has won by 4 or 5 points. In the red counties that are left, Walker has won by double digits. Of course, some of those red counties don't have a lot of people in them - but this race might be decided by 100 votes or so. Jeez, the game WI red and blue counties play....

698 Some results for California ballot measures (with roughly 3.7 million votes counted) -

Prop 10 (Removes state-level restrictions on rent control) - 65 percent No
Prop 11 (EMT On-Call Time) - 63 percent Yes
Prop 12 (Farm animals must have minimum amount of space) - 59 percent Yes
Prop 2 (Housing bonds for the mentally ill) - 59 percent Yes
Prop 1 (Bonds for low income housing) - 51 percent Yes
Prop 3 (Bonds for water infrastructure and ecology) - 53 percent No
Prop 4 (Bonds for Children's Hospitals) - 57 percent Yes
Prop 5 (Property Tax Transfer for Senior Citizens) - 56 percent No
Prop 6 (Repeal State Gas Tax) - 52 percent No
Prop 7 (Allow changes to Daylight Savings) - 62 percent Yes
Prop 8 (Regulate Dialysis Charges) - 62 percent No

The data is from AP. Prop 10 is the only one that the AP has actually called so far. 3.7 million isn't *that* many people in California, so the others (particularly the ones in the low 50s) could still shift the other way.

Actually, I think you're misreading it. California currently has state laws that restrict the ability of city and county governments to impose rent control. Prop 10 would have removed those restrictions, allowing cities and counties to more or less do what they wanted with rent control. But it looks like it's not going to pass, so the restrictions on rent control will remain in place.

So Prop 10 not passing means less rent control in California.

Funny how they think the Feds should give deductions for state taxes instead of the blue state governments giving deductions for federal taxes.

It's inexplicable. On the Politico map, - poof - 25,000 more Evers
votes without the tally coming up one tenth of a percentage point, or
one county finishing its open precinct counts.
