Mollie Hemingway: The Media Told Us that a Serial Rapist Had Been Nominated to the Supreme Court and We Needed to "Believe Victims."
So Why Have They Completely Stopped Reporting on This Story, Now That the "Serial Rapist" is a Justice?

It kind of suggests that the media was lying when they claimed they #Believed so strongly, and that they knew from the start they were only executing a Political Op with the elective-office branch of the Democrat-Media Complex, and now that the political fight is over, there's no need to continue the sham op.

Kind of like the Russia Collusion Op we hear less and less about.

Hemingway asks some semi-rhetorical questions, but only semi. Though the questions suggest an answer, I'm sure she'd like answers from the media -- and if the media had any answers which could dispel the suspicion that they are simply the Audio-Visual Squad of the Democrat Party, they would offer them.

While Blasey Ford is unclear on the precise location of the claimed assault, Maryland police said they would fully investigate any allegations brought to them. Has that been done? The argument was that the multi-week delay in September was insufficient for a proper investigation of her claims. If that's true, what has been done in October? Why have we heard nothing?

If the media and other Democratic leaders wanted to have any credibility at all that the post-hearing release of multiple allegations wasn’t a pure political stunt for which they were willing to destroy a man, they'd continue to fight for justice every day, wouldn't they? They would ask every Democratic candidate whether he believed Ford and supported impeaching Kavanaugh.

If the Kavanaugh confirmation circus were about justice for his alleged victims, instead of about killing his nomination by any means, we’d still be getting updates on this story, wouldn’t we?

So what does it mean that we're not getting updates? What does it mean that Democrats are not being asked by mainstream journalists about whether they support Kavanaugh's impeachment? Why have the media given up on investigating this story that they obsessed over for a few weeks in September and October?

One answer: The media knows, like the Democrat Party knows, that this political operation is not helpful to them during an election season.

So... the media and Democrats can choose to pursue or not pursue a story, believe or not believe a precious victim, based only on crass political calculations?

If so: What was all the sanctimonious preening about if Republicans chose to not believe this bullshit? Are Democrats and their Audio-Visual Squad in the media the only citizens with a high enough Citizen Rights Rating to allow political self-interest some space in their decision-making process?

____________________

A woman state legislator in Maryland asked the Montgomery County MD (where Kavanaugh allegedly assaulted Ford) cops to investigate Ford's claims.

The Montgomery Co. police chief, and the state's attorney for the county, wrote back to her that they could not open an investigation because no witness had filed a complaint in the county, and there must be a complaining witness before a criminal investigation can begin.

They also said that at the time of the alleged Kavanaugh assault, the statute of limitations in MD for attempted rape, and also for sexual assault, was 1-year, and both crimes were classified as misdemeanors. So even if they could investigate, and even if they found substantial evidence that Kavanaugh did exactly what Ford claimed, there was no way he could be prosecuted now, the statute of limitations having long since expired.

100 One of the good things is that Avenatti may end up losing his law license, if not worse over the games he played with Swetnick and Congress. He submitted an affidavit stating that he had a Second Witness willing to back up Swetnick's story. That "Second Witness" has now stated, under oath, that she *never* told Avenatti the things that he claimed she did in his affidavit, and furthermore, that when she contacted him to tell him that what he had said was a lie, he ignored her and kept on with it. That's a solid witness willing to testify that he intentionally lied to Congress, and yeah, that is a Big Deal.

oh and btw, NBC News knew about this, and knew the whole Swetnick claim was a complete fabrication 2 days before the final vote, but they decided to sit on this information and not say anything at all until a couple of days ago. I guess because they're a "news" organization.

132 Herman Cain was my first thought. I remember one female writer, likely on NRO, post bad story after story attacking Cain. And then there was the bimbo eruption that ended up completely derailing the Cain Train.

On a whim, I checked recent news stories about Cain. Interestingly, there was something in recent weeks, an audio-tape back from before the 2012 election from Rep. Jason Lewis mocking the women making the allegations against Cain. It's an attempt to take down Lewis... but the question is, where are these women now? They popped up, Cain was derailed. And they disappeared again.

And if you haven't forgotten, the same [Shiite] happened to Trump in the 2016 election. There was the "Grab" video, and then there were women all over the place claiming harassment. Even Stacy McCain (The good McCain) said basically to "stick a fork in 'im" when the news broke. But Trump didn't break, or back down. He threatened lawsuits against the women making those claims. You don't hear the media mentioning those claims much anymore. The only way they seem to cover it, is with a pillow.

These are clearly unserious people one should not trust or even allow near power.

210 Ok that Cruz tweet is hilarious.

I can't tell if this comment to his tweet is a paid lefty troll or an NPC in the wild. It reads like our very own Olivia:

"As a lifelong Texas voter I am very disappointed that Ted Cruz would be so flip about a real-life serial killer. I was planning on voting a straight GOP ticket, but now I'm thinking about holding my nose and voting for Beto just to make a statement."

And the idiocy of this comment, not realizing Hollywood is trying to buy Beto's senate seat, is almost pitiable:

"The money is pouring in from all over the country.
Why? Because they see in BETO what they hope for and want in a real candidate. Not Cruz, bought and paid for by PACs the NRA and corporations
Beto will be held to account by people
Cruz is held to account by special interest"

Posted by: LizLem at October 31, 2018 03:50 PM (hvf9s)

211 If the polls are to be believed, and that's a big "if", then what does that say about the electorate?

Never mind that we may lose some of these races in places like Arizona, Florida and Georgia, but the fact it is even a race at all should concern every citizen.

The differences could not be more stark. Republicans (finally) have shown they believe in smaller government, lower taxes, less regulation, border security, law and order and the fundamental tenets of our Constitution like the Second Amendment. Democrats not only don't believe in any of that, but embrace the antithesis of our countries fundamental pillars. Socialism, open borders, lawlessness, speech control, discriminatory policies based on politics, undermining the justice system and penalties for success, to name a few.

It should be extraordinarily disconcerting this is a debate at all, especially in view of recent proof that what Republicans advocate is working for our country.

In one sense what is shows is the strength of propaganda and perhaps the government illiteracy of many voters. For our country to survive, that needs to change.

Went to early voting this week in Houston - mostly (racist!!!) older white people. Didn't see a single person under 30 there out of a hundred or so. Voted straight ticket Republican - now that the Democratic party has been completely taken over by "those crazy Democrats" as McCaskill would say, what choice is there?

293 I love Ferris Bueller's Day off. Teenage escapism. I always related to Cameron or Ferris' sister of course emotionally. But Ferris has the scene near the end where he admits his charmed life is going to end and he has to grow up. Matthew Broderick was never more dashing or funny on film. Cameron's monologue of rage in the garage with the car is one of the most powerful scenes of any teen comedy. Distills all that frustration very well.

When the left purges most 80s teen comedies for sexist bad thought, including all the John Hughes movies, it will be one of the few allowed to remain I think.

You'll discover this type of accident happens frequently.

School bus is a special case. The fallacy is thinking that somehow the school bus protects the kids. Writing is a job.

Mood, if that's affecting you, shouldn't be a factor.

You sit down at set times and work, just like you do with a real job.

As Tom Clancy said, "Just write the damn book."

I've been writing almost daily for about 5 years now, and it's become a dopamine dump at times, especially when I finish something large.

For purely that, I'll never stop writing, even if I never sell much.

It was Avinutty and his nutcase 'client' and the over-reacton of DNC acolytes wanting to be the heroine that upped the fake allegations to rape and the FNM did report those charges too and are now conveniently going "oops, we let ourselves be fooled by the CPL"

"I just know that they put stuff in food that makes you fat and makes you crave more of their products." Mark kinda agrees with this.

"And the government's even worse." Mark again agrees enthusiastically.

"I just wish the CIA would stop sending me messages over my dental fillings. I reported them on the "Do Not Call" list, but that didn't work. I tried to get unlisted fillings, but my dentist says they don't exist. Wait - hang on - I'm getting another call ... (holds side of jaw) STOP CALLING ME!!!! OK, now where were we?" ===========

Depends on the type of story, really.

Serial inspired? Trying to juice the senses? Yeah, start with an action scene with little set up.

However, most stories that start with an action beat end up feeling wrong.

The one example I use is the opening fight to King Arthur (from early 2000s). We don't know any characters, but the scene is filmed so earnestly that the audience is expected to feel some kind of danger for the characters. But we don't care, so the averagely filmed action scene ends up falling flat.

Contrast that with Star Wars where our point of view characters (the droids) are walking through the action in almost comic fashion. it's a different emotional ask that doesn't require serious emotional involvement to get into.

It's almost starting the movie with a good joke.

I got huge anxiety the other day about starting my NaNoWriMo story. I was worried I didn't have enough outlining or research done to begin it properly. Thanks for reminding me why I'm doing it, and to just go for it. I can fill in the gaps later. I just need to write.

You're welcome.

My pre-writing process is pretty precise. I've just started it for a new book.

1) Pitch (about a paragraph)
2) Outline (about 2 pages)
3) Character profiles (about a page each) for primary, secondary, and tertiary characters
4) Outline again (at least 10 pages)

Once I have that done, then I feel confident enough to start writing. (I'm on step 3 right now. May be able to finish that tonight.)

The interesting thing to me is how story-telling is exactly the opposite of lecturing. In lecturing, as the old saw goes, you tell the audience what you're going to tell them, then you tell them, and then you summarize what you just told them.

In story-telling, you do just the opposite: you hide the ball, starting with some odd or cryptic event, and make the audience wonder what the hell is going on.

Doesn't have to be that way.

Greek tragedy was all about recasting familiar events in a new form (no unforeseen twists), and those still work today.

Inevitability is a valid narrative tool.

He followed that burnishing with a job as a proofreader for HW Wilson in the Bronx. That entire run was three years. The next three years ran an internet gig making web pages.

But what NaNoWriMo is really about is sticking to it and finishing.

Not sure where this space opera will go. Or if it will stay space opera. Since the main character is basically the antithesis of Luke. a girl much like Rey simply dumped because her backstory is one of those messy problems. But Alena, tentative name, has an armored shell around her heart because of Icairus.

471 Jim Butcher was originally a bet he had with his english professor. Wanted to prove to them he couldn't write it, and of course the rest is history. People need to bet him more apparently!

472 Good luck to you LizLem and your story.

Golden Isis has so far been the only NaNoWriMo story that I completed that after let lay unread for a year that I still liked on that later reading. So cleaned it up, got some editing advice, and then published it.

*checks site*

Actually not even NaNoWriMo, must have been a Camp story then. Still only one that I finished and still liked enough to publish.

Wow, my total word count for NaNoWriMo is 263,588 words spread over five story submissions.

473 @458 Sure, but I'd say the events leading up to that end are where the ball is hidden. That, and Ford's motivation.

In any case, by hiding the ball, I meant intriguing the reader (or the audience) to wonder what is going to unfold (even if the denouement is known at the beginning).

J. Michael Strazcinsky (sp?) talked about that on occasion with relation to Babylon 5. During the course of the series, characters would leap through time, and see events in the future (particularly one specific event), but without any background or context to what they saw. As a result, viewers knew very early on in the series that Londo and G'kar would eventually die by strangling each other. Since the two started out as mortal enemies, early on people assumed that they knew why the two characters would end up strangling each other.

But after viewers had a chance to see most of the story, and add some context to that scene...

Also, JMS quite literally wrote, at one point, "Spoiler warning: the good guys win!" That was in response to people complaining about JMS revealing elements of the story's future in Babylon 5 long before those elements actually took place.

474 Man I thought Joseph Robinette Biden had a weak resume'.

Probably wouldn't go over at an interview well if you stared down the hiring manager and reminded him that no one cared about credentials, ability or experience when hiring on someone to help mismanage a five trillion dollar budget and the lives of hundreds of millions of people.

475 Ugh the words. Dresden files was the bet Butcher had with his prof. Wanted to write Tolkien like fantasy and his prof said he should try his hand at something more set in urban times. Wanted to prove the prof wrong, that he couldn't do it. And Dresden was born.

Impressive word count Anna!! And getting one story completed is better than none. Good luck on the scifi story.

I'm sick and tired of Trump. And I'm sick and tired of Republicans who go along with Trump-defending, abetting and imitating his egregious excesses. If you're sick and tired too, here is what you can do. Vote for Democrats. For every office. My latest: https://wapo.st/2zhmkNq
