At this point, the GOP could lose the Indy vote 2-1 and still win.
And no way the AZ GOP loses Indies 2-1, if at all.

It's become exceedingly obvious how broken polls are with the early voting numbers.
Whether it's intentional or not (probably a mix) is up for debate, but it's pretty unmistakable now that polling doesn't really reflect reality.
The only use anymore is movement within a series, and even then it's of limited use.

Still recovering from a very nice and enjoyable Halloween with lots of polite children and parents. My kids make fun of me, but after a few years of not very many trickortreaters, I was very happy to see youngsters again. One little boy (maybe 2yo) was insisting on coming in to kiss the doggies. Good thing I am used to herding grandkids or that child would have released the hounds. I decided to crate the dogs because they are just too big and loud for most kids now -- maybe next year I can let them free.

PS: IIRC, Friday and Saturday before election day are something like where 25% of all early votes are cast.
By Sunday, the good campaigns already know who won; they'll have solid data on half to 2/3 of the outcome. That is, 1/2 to 2/3 of the vote has been cast.
NB: Unless I'm missing it, I'm not seeing any close-in-polling race where the Dems have an early vote lead.

However an insurer that left OH in I believe 2017 has come back into our market. Higher deductible and I will have to give up my primary care physician which is no biggy for me. My new deductible will be $683/month.
Something has changed that this insurer and another have reentered the marketplace.

I think the race is moving in her direction and she'll win, but way too close for comfort.
The last few polls were McSally up 2 points according to NY Times, 2 points up according to Reuters, and 7 points according to OH Insights. She had a terrible poll though with NBC/Marist of losing by like 7 points.
I know this is hard to believe because of McCain and Flake, but AZ is still a Republican state and the rest of the ballot is going Republican by a large margin. I just don't see Sinema winning in that environment, but had the election been a few weeks ago, I think Sinema would have won.

If I make baked potatoes I will bake them, then cut them in half and flip them on the cut side on an oiled sizzle plate in a very hot oven. The cut face gets really crispy, then I put cheese on and broil for a few minutes.

If I make baked potatoes I will bake them, then cut them in half and flip them on the cut side on an oiled sizzle plate in a very hot oven. The cut face gets really crispy, then I put cheese on and broil for a few minutes.

I love all the people who look down there noses at people who "don't read books". What they mean is they "don't read the books I read". Bet you a million bucks Trump can read a contract or specifications for building better than most.
I am forever reading up on "how to" stuff. Even if I have no intent on doing the activity. Learning how things work is a useful thing. Hell, even a show like Dirty Jobs will give the viewer a perspective on how an actual civilized world works. When was the last time Jonah Goldberg read a how to book and then did something useful with his hands other than give Capt Bill a rubby.
Keeping up with Oprah's book club is not badge of honor.

There are different kinds of intellect and Goldberg has the kind that has been sharpened by reading lots of books. That's okay. But Trump's intellect is in seeing the big picture and grasping great concepts--and how they can be useful in getting things done. He doesn't fret over books.

When Trump did an event here in AZ, the sky was full of military choppers for multiple days.

There is a ballot initative in California this election that will expand the cage free law to include egg laying hens, pigs and calves that will double the price of meat and poultry.The law is aimed at expanding the "living space" to 43 sq ft for each animal.

I feel your pain. I scheduled this afternoon off, starting at noon. Boss this morning says we absolutely have to get this document, which we've been working on for six months, revised and transmitted today. Boss leaves "for a half hour to run an errand" an hour ago. I'm also waiting for a sister office in Maryland to call me back with data for the document they were supposed to have sent 45 days ago.

I don't eat red meat, and not too much fowl. Mainly fish when I ingest the animal kingdom.
My brother keeps trying to be a vegan. It is very difficult to stay vegan when one is a 6 foot tale male who has health issues. When he stays with me I try to indulge his stupid fantasy, but it's hard. The other nite we were at a diner and he was going to order whatever greenery he usually does. I stopped that nonsense. "Order that Reuben sandwich, it looks great!"
I don't care what he does on his own time but when he's with me he has to be a meat eater, otherwise he is foraging in the kitchen every damn 20 minutes. He devoured the reuben sandwich and was good for about 2 hours, praise you Lord.

In grad school I had a prof who assigned reading of some of the most lefty, off base economists ever. It got so bad that after he assigned me some Galbraith to read that I went to his office to complain. I told him that Galbraith was so wrong about so much that if he said the sun was shining I'd still look out the window.
He said "OK - at the next class explain why."
And he meant it. Dawned on me that he wasn't giving us this crap to indoctrinate us...it was to challenge us.

One of the hardest things I had to learn, and its is difficult to teach, is how to think "strategically." Seeing the big picture and seeing how to move forward with a real vision. It is a skill and I envy those who seem to do it so easily. PDT is an expert.

It's fun to point out and identify different types of intellect. My wife says she doesn't have a very good memory, and doesn't read too much. And yet, if you ask her about a theme song of any tv show in the 60's or 70's, or even any ad that was run a lot, she can spit out the entire lyrics off the top of her head, along with the tune of course. I try to play "stump the chump" but I can never come up with something she can't come up with.
and yet she doesn't have a good memory. Of course, even she points out that if that it's more of a curse than a gift, in her estimation at least.

I'd rather sous vide because it's so idiot proof. Thinner steaks are easy-peasy to cook to desired temperature, but a 2"+ thick steak in a skillet from frozen is damn easy to mess up.
Chuck that thing in a bag, sous-vide it at 133 for three hours, dry it off, sear it, finish with butter and you've got a steak to rival John Howie.

Cooking a good piece of steak, on an Iron Skillet, scorching hot on a 1936 Chambers stove that the devil is afraid to use because it gets too hot.. Add small amount of bacon grease to pan and when it is smokin' add the (frozen) meat and fry 'till it is a roasty brown on one side. Salt with Himalayan Pink Salt (said with nose in the air - Snooty like..) Flip! Cook on the other side until done.. We like it just over rare, baby! Salt again, rest, and add a pat of Walmart or Kroger butter.. and dig in! Yeah..
It Just sucks.. wouldn't do it again, Garrett. Your completely right, it just ruins the meat...

Never expose black pepper to direct searing heat like that (sautee or grill or open flame or whatever)
It's akin to smoking your sauteeing fat. Rancid, nasty, off-notes come out.
Pepper loves heat to pull out the oils and do its thing. It doesn't like super high heat though. If you like black pepper with red meat, add it either at the very end, or during the deglaze/montee phase.

I find RC Sproul's series/book on the Holiness of God very helpful here. Its a matter of perspective, like God pointed out to Job.

Some years back, we had a local restaurant that served irradiated/pasteurized beef. Their burgers cooked "medium" were heaven. They stopped because "irradiated" had a bad connotation and then closed their doors sometime after.

I knew it was coming but him dying really hit me very, very hard. He was such a wonderful man and so gifted by God in teaching and wisdom. I love that his appeal reaches across all denominational boundaries. RC was truly a gift from above, and I feel blessed to have lived when he was alive and to have met him in several conferences.

There's actually two problems there. The first is coming to the realization that you're the one that's wrong. The second is figuring out why you're wrong, and how to fix that.
For instance, right now I'm trying to figure out why I can't seem to hold a job down for longer than a year, and why I'm repeatedly being put into situations in which I'm led to believe that I'm going to get something related to employment, but don't. There are enough "coincidences" involved that I'm pretty sure His hand is involved in it. But the problem is that I can't figure out the why of it, or what He's trying to get me to do.
It's very frustrating.

I saw Alistair at a conference, but never got to meet him personally. He's such a great guy, I love his teaching too. I listen to his sermons on Sunday often, since I can't make it to church these days. Al Mohler and James Boice are also favorites for sermons. I have a list of pastors I cycle through, like Martin Lloyd-Jones, John McArthur, and James Kennedy.

Oh, this has been a huge bone of contention. You had boats and boats and boats of every third worlder you could imagine.
Then when Tony Abbott came in the guy who's now PM came down hard on the process and penned them all up in Nauru, and they stopped coming.
For various reasons none of them good Abbott's own party gave him the heave-ho, and put in Malcolm Turnbull, the Minister from Goldman Sachs, a wealthy denizen of inner urban Sydney, a hardcore warmist and a squish on virtually everything the Liberal-National Coalition (the Aussie conservatives) troops in the country care about, so the boat-people containment got leaky.
Scott Morrison is a bit of a Turnbull man, but he's still trying to find a recipe for his own political survival. We'll see.

1. Find job
2. Get laid off due to budget cuts and/or outsourcing
3. Spend months looking for new job
4. Go to Step #1.
And let me tell you, after you get in the 40-45 age range, the jobs start getting mighty scarce.

I don't like steak either. I'm not super fond of the flavor and texture of meat, so its best if there's a lot of other stuff around it (burger, pizza, tacos, etc). Coffee is okay, but I can't drink caffeinated or sugared stuff any more so I don't bother.

Oh - yes. Yes, I mis-read your post. You know some of my history, so you know I'm on the same page with you there. One good thing thought is re-learning those wrong thoughts, and replacing them with true thought. I get to re-educate myself. Hard though, and takes a lot of time. Tried to be a vegetarian (not vegan) once upon a time. Protein combination substitution, B vitamin supplements (with animal-origin B12, cheating), doing the things many stupid vegans and vegetarians don't do to replace what meat does.
Orrrrr.... you could order a Big Mac to go at McD's.
My vegetarianism was a kind-of self-styled Buddhistic thing, largely inspired by Be Here Now.
Speaking of which, Alpert did do some good studies in reducing recidivism among hardened criminals via LSD, before the Law stopped them.
My cats and dogs ultimately converted me to Carnivorism.

Heh. Thermos bottles have a small space between the inner and outer walls. The vacuum between the walls prevents heat transfer by convection.
When you put a steak in a vacuum sealed bag, you're removing any air from the bag that would, if present, provide insulation from the heat in the water. With no air insulation in the bag, there is a direct path from the water to the bag to the meat for heat convection transfer.
