39 I've never seen this painting of Napoleon before.

Speaking of Napoleon, I recently got a British token ca. 1814 commemorating Napoleon's (first) abdication - the reverse has Napoleon's titles, with the sarcastic legend "We Conquer to Set Free", the obverse has the Devil leading Napoleon away on an ass to Elba with the legend "Inseperable Friends." It's a pretty cool little piece of Napoleonic history

Posted by: Anonosaurus Wrecks, Tyrannosaur Wrangler at October 12, 2018 09:40 AM (+y/Ru)

41 This painting is hilarious. It was made as a direct response to David's more famous image of Napoleon on the rearing charger.

Compare and contrast the mighty General, in control of everything, verses the hunched over, shivering General, on a mule, being lead. Compare the faces, especially.

115 The color scheme here is key. Delaroche relied on his audience being familiar with the earlier David piece (there are 5 versions, apparently), where the only vibrant colors are on the General himself. Here, everyone is drab and dank. The only red is in the fringe around the mule, and that is small, dirty and sad. Napoleon is part of a dank form that starts at the lower left and cuts through the exact center of the piece. Delaroche, however, makes sure the viewer focuses on N. by placing him in the exact center. His vertical form crosses the drab horizontal again at the center and he is framed/silhouetted by the stark white of the snow and ice behind him. Just as in the David, his cloak swirls around him, but not in some romantic, heroic fashion, but in a weak wave as though caught by a slight breeze.

++++++++++++++
As much as I hate Obama and the Fed's actions, I don't actually think the Fed was working for Obama - they were working for the banks. ZIRP and QE were disasters for average Americans (and Eurpopeans and Japanese), but not for Obama's benefit. And the Fed isn't raising rates to punish Trump either - they telegraphed their rate hikes and eventual QE wind-down hard starting before the election when QE went into maintenance (but not growth). They would be taking the same actions if Hillary were in office (though she might fight them on it whereas Trump has not, but who knows - it didn't happen).

The Fed cannot do more QE or lower rates without losing legitimacy. That doesn't mean they won't do it, but I think it's unlikely. They have been following their process as advertised and it has been very (almost excruciatingly) slow. Rates are *still* accommodative - just less so than before. QE reversal is going exactly on schedule. This crap they pulled back in 08-12 has to be wound down, and with inflation ticking up and growth starting, they basically have to do it now.

This is why you shouldn't interfere in the first place. All the sticksaves eventually have to be handled it spreads the pain out over a *much* longer period of time. But they did choose to interfere, and so here we are. I don't think this is a political action, it is market realities finally forcing action. Interest rates have to come up, and they are. This has consequences on equities because now the calculus has changed - the ~1.8% dividend yield on the S&P500 suddenly looks much less attractive when a six month T-bill will yield you about 2.3%. The six-month yield is finally beating official inflation for the first time in nearly a decade.

It ain't gonna be fun, but it's gotta be done. The stock market is going to take a beating or, optimistically, move sideways for a few years.

165 We arrived home yesterday and our electricity in Destin is still out and is supposed to be restored by tonight. Our house weathered the storm pretty well, but some of the planks from our pier on Choctawhatchee Bay are missing.

It could've been a lot worse for us. I heard from a sheriff's deputy checking our sticker on the way back that they still have minimal communication with Bay County and that there's no cell service, electricity or running water in most areas over there.

Pray for my college friend and retired Air Force C-130 pilot that they made it through the storm. We both got our masters at 'Bama, our wives became friends and we had a blast, paid for by Uncle Sam in his desire to get us masters degrees.

I still haven't heard from him, but considering that cell service is down, I'm not surprised. I might load up the truck with my chainsaws, some bottled water, other supplies, some beer in another cooler and see if I can follow the Scout law and do several good turns daily and hopefully track him down.

I have to agree with that, because the Fed has ALWAYS worked for the Big Banks, right from the day it was founded. We had this guy before, right, Delaroche. He's the guy who kept drawing Napoleon long after he was mort, like 1870s or 80s.

Also I don't know enough about Napoleon. He looks as if he just got his ass kicked in the Levant because you wouldn't cross the Alps after getting your ass kicked in Russia.

Why did they keep letting him get his ass kicked?

This is an amazing painting when you emzoomen it, but it's a painting of a nasty little bitch. Delaroche should have drawn flowers or nice people or nekkid girls.

183 Turkish Pastor Brunson was a HUGE win for Trump and Pence. For those who think Pence doesn't do anything, Pence put in a huge deal of time and effort into convincing Trump to push Turkey on this issue, because Pence knew that it was very dear to the Evangelical community in the US.

There's a lot of stuff that goes on that isn't really behind the scenes, but that the MSM never report on because they hate the people involved. In this case, they hate Pence and they hate Evangelicals, so this move to get Brunson released hits them like a bolt out of the blue that they never saw coming.

Yes, to the British after Waterloo in 1815. He (correctly) assumed that the Brits wouldn't execute him & desecrate his corpse like all the other European powers wanted to, but thought that they'd let him live in a nice retirement in England, or let him live in exile in America. Instead they shipped him to one of the most remote islands on Earth, St. Helena.

202 Interesting painting of Napoleon. The only bland part of the image is Napoleon's face which is is stark contrast to the harsh, powerful background of the mountains and even the guide on foot. The detail and power of the paintings is effectively powerful showing the skill of the artist. Except for Napoleon's expression, this painting reminds me of a non-barbarian Frank Frazetta work. Probably why I like it so much.

yeah, they are for the International Banks, but that means they are for Obama/Clinton .. or even Bush. Even Trump has a bunch of GoldmanSachs guys, but he seems to want to bend things back to serve the average American, not the globalist printers/lenders of money. Right now the Fed serves the markets, serves those highly leveraged.

In 2016 they had announceed four rates cuts coming, the market sold off (11% iirc) and they cancelled ALL the rate cuts. They wanted Hillary ... This Warsh guy was in contention (somewhat) for the Fed chair but he thought they should have ended (reversed) the QEs in 2010 ... instead (tea party days) they kept pushing markets to save it from the Obama oppressive policy ...

so while they are doing it for the BigBanks, they prefer the Dems or GOPe globalists ... they are political.

this is really good on the fed ... interview with Warsh

223 Another little note out of the Texas race - black voters constitute about 12% - 15% of the electorate here, but in all recent races they've been 30% - 40% of the Democrats total vote. What is about to happen, and which Dems don't see coming at all (they should, it's obvious!!!) is that with no black faces on the ballot here, no one out giving their community a reason to vote (except for the same old race hustlers like Eddie Bernice Johnson, who only has influence inside her own ghetto district) texas black voters by and large are simply going to sit this one out. ESPECIALLY with Beto out there giving 100% of his attention to the hispanic community, especially in the Rio Grande Valley - it's what he considers his base. He has this theory that he's going to get so many new voters there that it's going to make up for him taking 40% of the dem base here for granted and telling them to shut up and do what they're told.

Watch for it - the post mortems on the Beto race are all going to be "Why was dem turnout so much lower than we thought it would be????"

This is why Trump is so very dangerous. By going whole-hog on identity politics, the Dems acquired gigantic monolithic minority voting blocs. They now utterly depend on them. To defeat the terms, the Rs don't need to flip the minority voting blocs - they just need to slice them a bit. Slicing off 15% may well do it. The Dem voter alliance is extremely fragile.

Thanks. The bizarre thing about that is you can tell it's death and not art. An artist who could reproduce that accurately would be a very wealthy man, though.

267 Napoleon practically gave away the territory in the Louisiana purchase when we only really wanted New Orleans and some territory around it. We paid only 3 million up front in gold and borrowed the rest from European banks to pay the remainder of the 15 million purchase price ( 4 million of that was debt forgiveness).

I'm glad Napoleon was trying to take over Europe.

The most important thing to keep in mind is that when the left poses such questions, it's a con, it's being done disingenuously. They want to dupe high minded evangelicals into sitting out elections, voluntarily ceding power to those who would harm them (and their families and communities). Which is ridiculous. Even if you want to base your vote on the personal lives of the candidates, if you look at the personal ethics of Trump vs Hillary, Trump comes out far ahead.

325 Even if it is practical, for Napoleon, there was a symbolic reason for crossing the Alps into Italy. You can see it in David's version. Many of the great generals did so too. On the rocks below the horse are the names Bonaparte, Hannibal and Charles Magnus (Charlemagne). He has literally ranked himself with them. He is their successor and superior (his name is above theirs). Delaroche, however, is saying the opposite, calling Napoleon pathetic. It might also be a jab at N.'s nephew N. III who was president at the time, not emperor yet.

Why did they keep letting him get his ass kicked?

Posted by: Bandersnatch at October 12, 2018 10:11 AM (fuK7c)

The thing is, Boney rarely got his ass kicked. He essentially ran roughshod over Europe for nearly 20 years, kicking the shit out of everyone.

But when he actually DID get his ass kicked, he did it by the numbers, with flaming jackboots and boa feathers in a day-glo orange propeller beanie. Usually because of overreach outside of his home ground in Europe (Egypt and Russia as the most prominent examples).

Yup.

Lindy's passion isn't the problem. It's that he's wrong about basic facts about weapons, tactics and history.

If you don't know anything about what he's talking about, say crossbows, then Lindy can be entertaining, I suppose. But once he starts talking bullshit about stuff I do know about, I lose all respect for everything he does.

I expect Diane Feinstein to shut up. The 9th circuit has created more grief for all of the country . Their out of bounds rulings creating their own version of immigration, gun control, and the extra constitutional blocking of executive branch action means they either need to be removed or reformed. Trump is reforming it back to a constitutionally bound court which the Democrats cannot abide. As it interferes with their fatwahs they have courts decree when they can't get something through legislatively.

I don't expect that Kanye will pull huge numbers of Black Americans over to Trump all by himself. But I think his real value is to show that a truly free man will consider all sides and not make knee-jerk decisions because of promises of free goodies from a political party that takes them for granted.

In a way, he has the potential to do more good for Black America than WEB DuBois, the Black Panthers and the NAACP combined.

Funny thing, that's REALLY hard for me to say, since I largely despise hip-hop, rap and the culture that it created.
