"Okay, serious question for the history buffs here. Saw some sub-moron
lobotomy patients on Twitter saying that it's a shame that the GOP is
nominating such a right wing judge and that SCOTUS nominees should be
'impartial.'

The GOP in the last half a century nominated Souter,
who went left wing, plus O'Connor and Kennedy who were moderate swing
votes. Even Roberts, a pretty strong conservative on lots of things,
caved on Obamacare.

Who was the last Dem-nominated Justice that ended up anywhere near being a centrist or right wing?"

The problem with that is that we still live in a Republic where people vote, and actual attempts (and God forbid) a success or two, will turn large swaths of the American public towards Republicans.

In exactly the same way that Americans turned to Democrats in 64 after Kennedy's assassination. He went from a guy who won through his dad cheating in Illinois to passed godking. Something similar would happen to the Republican Party if and when the Left goes nuts.

To be fair, being a pervert isn't a crime. The problem.people have with this is the timing after he spoke out against the golden calves in the black community (which was all true btw), the precedent this establishes with affirmative consent (the ability to time travel back years and decades to remove consent), and giving certain castes power to use the state as a proxy to destroy their enemies.

Are you new?

Sure that's the law and the regulations support that.

Problem is, who do you think actually runs the day to day prison?

It's not the warden. It's the gangs and the ethnic cliques.

And besides it's like police; the guards can't watch everything and everybody so stuff happens and if no one says anything then there's no proof and nothing happens.

Most prisoners are physical criminals they have no empathy/sympathy or regard for anyone else and they may not care about additions to their already long sentence.

So there are rapes constantly inside. There are ways to put a stop to it but it would cost too much money to implement so we wind up with a system that's unconstitutional as it makes for punishment that is cruel and unusual being allowed by the state.

I honestly saw very little on the units I worked on. But then again, Ellis 1 and Ramsey 1 were for older, third time offenders and those rarely going home. There were "mutually agreed upon" inmates for that so it was consensual more than rape.

The young gun units where the animals were down for their first time were usually where that action was. Ferguson, Retrieve, Beto, Coffield Units.

M v M is an assertion not the law, as Lincoln showed. The SC has the power to decide cases, not invalidate law. The power is in the implication that they will rule for the plaintiff in all similar cases and so people go along to avoid the hassle.

422 Andrea Constand was a Canadian citizen who had been hired as the director of women's basketball operations at Temple University when Cosby was on the Board of Trustees of Temple. Her job included contact and interaction with the Trustee's including Cosby. Prior to her working at Temple, she was a professional basketball player for two years in a European league.

During one of her visits to Cosby's home , whom she considered a friend and mentor at the time, she was upset as she had planned to quit her job and wanted to talk to him about it, and he offered her three blue pills to take the edge off, telling her they were herbal.

She remembers getting dizzy, him helping her to the couch and then she couldn't move. When she came out of the haze, her lower half was naked, her bra was over her head and Cosby was in a bathrobe in the kitchen.

By the way, Constand was and is a lesbian.

She filed a police report in Toronto when she left her job after a few months, a job that required her to continue interacting with Cosby as a trustee. That was in 2004 and it started the years of legal wrangling. It isn't like she waited years to get him charged.

Here is her impact statement.

Yeah, I know the paracetemol / tylenol is there to discourage abuse (which probably leads to more fatalities, because people think Tylenol is 'safe' even though in some cases just 4 grams can cause hepatotoxcity), but I wasn't 100% sure if the paracetemol was also the thing that discouraged snorting of they put something else in it, like an astringent.

439 I don't think Cosby was "railroaded". He committed sexual assaults on drugged, unconscious women. But he WAS treated differently from other celebrities. Which is to say, he got no special treatment. He was treated like any sex criminal. And yes, I think the reason his "celebrity shield" was stripped away from him was because of his stance that the black community is responsible for its own failures.

So guilty, but treated differently, by being treated the same as anyone else. If that makes sense.

486 No, I mean there is $200K in cash hidden in the walls of the Banana Stand.

487 All I know is that they were damned hilarious. I know a lot of modern blacks condemn their schtick but I didn't think it was any more offensive than Beverly Hillbillies or any thousand white acts that made them look dumb or stereotypical.

People condemn the way blacks are portrayed in Warner Brothers cartoons but I mean, is Yosemite Sam or Elmer Fudd particularly flattering of white people?

488 Sentenced to 3 to 10 years?

How does that work?

Doesn't the sentencing judge have to decide on the number at sentencing after the prosecutor asks for the range allowed by statute?

Or does the warden get to say on the last day of year three: "Fuck you, Bill. It's ten."?

489 Hey, grammie, saw your post in the morning thread.

Posted by: steevy at September 25, 2018 04:44 PM (mCMQ5) "

Eh, I don't doubt that Robinson and before him Hank Greenberg got it worse than most. But yes, everybody was heckled. Ruth was often called "half-a-nig**r" or similar things alluding to theories that he had at least "one drop."

Call Ty Cobb the same at your own peril, since a fan heckled him with that phrase and Cobb went into the stands and beat him senseless. The man was missing most of his fingers on one hand and all of his fingers on the other. Fans pleaded with him to take it easy on the man with no arms. Cobb continued and beat him and allegedly said "I don't care if he has no legs."

(I don't really care all that much about the n word but I think my post is being blocked for using it)

Is it too late to play the racist card? After all, he is white, married to white woman and white kids. Probably KKK. Surely his father or uncles told some inappropriate jokes somebody heard years ago.

499 "Green Acres.
Dukes of Hazzard.
Petticoat Junction.
Beverly Hillbillies.

Note, all shows making fun of country folk, not City Gents."

Well, three of those were actually all tied together -- the "Hooterville Trilogy" -- and were big hits. They "made fun" of the hicks, but the hicks always came out as the wiser, nicer, people. Watch any Beverly Hillbillies and tell me if Drysdale or Jed came out as smarter. There was a Petticoat Junction where the rail company was going to shut down the line, but as executives came down to investigate, they fell in love with the steam engine, the way of life, and just COULDN'T destroy what got them into the railroad in the first place. They were nostalgiac shows, for people who had moved to the big city or their kids, who remembered summers on the grandparents farms.

All those shows were cancelled when CBS decided to get "young and urban".

"Dukes of Hazzard" was just TV scale "Smokey and the Bandit". Car chases, jumps, simple plots and a little T&A.

The defense asked for house arrest. The judge went to sentencing guidelines in PA that require a minimum of 3 years, up to 10. Cosby will be in state prison in PA, to begin immediately, for at least three years. News didn't report which prison, I wonder if he will be neighbors with Jerry Sandusky?

And I have a friend who works daily with the prison system as a counselor first to inmates, and currently to parolees. Yes, people get raped in prison and the younger and prettier you are, the more you get passed around. However, prison staff is required to do whatever is necessary to protect prisoners from each other, so an 81 year old getting sent to state prison , particularly a celebrity, will be protected either by isolation or constant supervision. I doubt Cosby will end up on the rape list for the evening, more like he will be jowled at to not get special privileges. And be by himself for the most part.

It's a dog whistle.

I had something called "Whipple's Disease" (For a long, painful time, I might add) . whenever anyone asked what that was, I'd answer "It's what you got when you squeezed the Charmin!"

No one under 40 or so ever got the reference.
