The article is almost a year old, but it is as fresh and lovely as ever. Any time somebody takes a shot at Cruise Director Bill is a good time, and this one is particularly sharp and cutting.
Put Up or Shut Up: Bill Kristol in 2018
Kristol is the founder and editor-at-large of The Weekly Standard and inarguably the most anti-Trump of the NeverTrump Republicans. He has cleverly carved out a niche for himself as the Left’s go-to guy for a nasty comment or tweet about the president. Kristol’s criticism also extends to the president’s staff, family, and voters. He rants about Republicans in Congress who support Trump and smugly doles out advice about how they can usurp the president’s power and agenda. For all of Kristol’s invective, somehow Democrats have emerged untouched.
It’s sad, really. He is also a prolific political loser, notoriously backing unqualified, unappealing candidates with no chance of winning. This includes Alan Keyes, Sarah Palin, and Evan McMullin to name a few. He repeatedly said Trump would lose the primary; when he didn’t, Kristol insisted Trump would lose the general election in a landslide. Scores of articles catalog his lousy policy ideas, laughable endorsements, and failed predictions. If you are running for office, beware the Curse of Kristol.
One of the most laughable things about Bill Kristol is that his NeverTrump mania is devoid of anything other than smug snark and elitist haughtiness. If he had anything of substance to say about President Trump it would go a long way toward making it easier to take him seriously, or at least not laugh uproariously and make fart noises with your hands. Well, on second thought, no that's not the case. He is a perfect pompous asshole, and nothing can save him from that. And...something delightful below the break...

I've thought about the 2008 campaign since then... I don't really think Palin did anything wrong or could have done anything better.
The media was in seek and destroy mode, and I'm really not sure she could have beat that back. Especially as a VP candidate, where you're stuck within the confines of what the person at the top of the ticket dictates.
She was a woman, so she had to be destroyed.
She had a midwest'ish accent and didn't go to the ivy league, so the medias hook was "haha! look at this stupid hick" and no matter what she did, that was going to be how they framed every story about her.

Her counter could have worked against an opposition that had any shred of dignity or decorum or shame, but it seems like nobody really appreciated at the time how fundamentally vile they really are.
I think about the R candidates in the last few elections and how I considered them at the time, weighing their relative tenacity as "fighters". It's risible. And then PDT comes in and at first I'm thinking "ugh, he's going to make us look awful" and then "wait, is he swinging a chain at that guy's face" and then "OMG it is literally raining teeth on that stage, this is the best thing ever, more please".

F'rinstance, did you ever notice how Progressives never quote our Constitution as justification for anything? Take a look at this Kavanaugh circus: we have elected officials pretty much dismissing that whole "due process" thingy. Hell, even Grassley won't mention it, which is rather curious in the extreme. That Hirono rep pretty much said so in that Jerk Tapper interview when axed if Kav deserves the basic legal right to be considered innocent until proven guilty. Any answer other than "certainly so according to our laws" is dead wrong. This is coming from someone who swore an oath to protect and defend the Constitution? What's wrong here?
Only PDT has mentioned anything about a police report. If what Kav was alleged to have done was bad enough to derail his SCOTUS appointment, it should've been bad enough to file a police report right after it happened.
Grassley should say as much on Monday right before he calls a vote to confirm.

I think Trump studied it, as well. Because he did come up with ways to counter it.
The media portrays Republicans as:
a) stupid (Bush, Palin, etc.)
b) rich and out of touch (Romney, McCain and has 8 mansions)
and/or
c) evil (Romney's dog, McCain, Bush)
So Trump countered (a) by talking about his brilliant businesses and how amazing Wharton is, best school ever and all of that. He just completely embraced (b). and (c) never really stuck, mostly because he's a funny guy. I guess the "we can't trust Trump with the nuclear codes! he's a nut!" thing was a good try, but I don't think anyone really bought it.
So he was able to parry the media and left's normal attacks.
I think the only way he did it so well was by studying how others had failed.
And I think the only reason we put up with Trump's ridiculousness was because we've watched the media make some combination of those 3 arguments against every R since, what, Ike? Lincoln? It's the same playbook every fucking time.

What occasionally haunts me is that McCain as president would've most likely been an absolute disaster of more wars. The potential existed there to banish the party to the wilderness for a generation. We may have dodged a bullet. Obama was bad but he could've been far, FAR worse. Fortunately he lacked important attributes like not being a lazy piece of shit. Imagine if he had Trump's drive and will to power. That's not saying he didn't do damage. Obamacare was bad enough but the real horror set in during his second term where his administration ramped up the SJW stuff. We're still suffering from it.

The Saudis were supremely insulted, and a few days later, announced a 1.1 billion Boeing order, and a 1.8 billion Airbus order. It was expected to be 100% Boeing, until Patty bragged about it.
I will never forget that one, watched it unfold over a week on the local news and local Business Journal. It hurt a lot of working people.

Yeah, that sucks. My money is still on "DOCTOR Ford has come-down with pneumonia and won't be able to testify until the next CONgress is sworn-in". What Grassley does then is anyone's freaking guess at this point.
