Good morning 'rons & 'ettes. Let us take a look at a few things that didn't get too much attention here at the AoSHQ this past week.

Rules? Yes a few. Be nice to the 'ettes. Be nice to the 'rons. No running with sharp objects. Enjoy these stories or something else in this open thread.

Have a great weekend!!

Also, it's 39 degrees here in west central MI. Yippeee the 90 degree temps are done. We actually have the pellet stove running.

Well, let's see. First the earth cooled. And then the dinosaurs came, but they got too big and fat, so they all died and they turned into oil. And then the Arabs came and they bought Mercedes Benzes. And Prince Charles started wearing all of Lady Di's clothes. I couldn't believe it.

But Grassley is a turd. He's trying to reason with the werewolf, saying "You're not REALLY hungry for flesh -- Here, have a banana."
Posted by: GnuBreed at September 22, 2018 06:42 AM (Z4rgH)

I think I see a trend here.

BTW, there's a great podcast at Powerline. The guests are Julie Kelly and "Lucretia", and they say the words no man can utter. I first heard them from my wife. In the beginning, one of them says "Every girl knows how to handle this. If it's never happened to you, you must be really ugly." Wow.

My own take is that she'll manage to somehow agree to Weds, then she'll have to do her hair, or her grandmother will die, or anything to delay again. From all we see, she's a real wackadoodle basket case; someone they don't want on the stand. That's why they don't want women questioning her. When she inevitably goes bananas, they could yell "patriarchy" if it were the senators. As it is, she'll just expose herself as an overaged snowflake.

So she'll agree to the later date, then back out, figuring Grassely will cave again. Frankly, my money's on her.

44 Also from the EMT:

348 I'm coming to believe nothing is going to get better until it gets much, much worse because the "establishment" is fat and content with the way things are. "

There's a memorable riff on this idea built into the end of I, Claudius, for anyone who remembers that miniseries. (and admittedly this is Author Robert Graves thoughts) and it portrays Claudius, at the end of his life, accepting Nero as his successor even though he knows Nero is a psycopathic killer, because he tells himself Rome will only clean up its corruption if it goes all the way to the bottom.

Of course, reality is that once the leadership goes all the way to the bottom, it stays at the bottom, and the nation proceeds to destroy itself for good. See today's Venezuela for modern confirmation of the observation.
Posted by: Tom Servo at September 22, 2018 08:35 AM (L4Fxp)

"Let all the poisons that lurk in the mud hatch out." I can't count how often that line has come back to me recently.

But really, it's not at all clear that "Of course, reality is that once the leadership goes all the way to the bottom, it stays at the bottom, and the nation proceeds to destroy itself for good."

Rome had several recoveries. So have the Brits. Egypt and China did the same. And, Lord, how many times have the Jews fallen and gotten back up. (OK, they had help.)

And obviously, Venezuela is no example, as the story is still ongoing. Chile recovered, after all.

Posted by: Steve and Cold Bear at September 22, 2018 09:15 AM (/qEW2)

77 This is the timeline if the Democrats are grumpy and want to extend things out:

Day 1: Kavanaugh is voted out of committee.

Day 2: Cloture is filed on his nomination.

Day 3: Nothing.

Day 4: Cloture vote 1 hour after the Senate convenes, as early at 1 a.m.

If cloture is agreed to (which these days only requires a majority of those voting), there will be no more than 30 hours of debate time to use.

Day 5: After the debate time is used up (or it may be yielded back if the
Democrats throw in the towel), vote on confirmation.

So, as an example, let's say Kavanaugh gets voted out of committee on Monday. Cloture is filed on Tuesday. Cloture vote is on Thursday, as early as 1 a.m. If cloture succeeds, after the vote ends the 30 hours start. Once that time is used up or given up, there is a vote on confirmation.

110 The Ford thing is beginning to remind me of the 2000 camp David peace talks. Ehud Barak gave in to all of Arafat's demands. Looked like Israel's dumbest move ever. Funny thing happened: Arafat walked away from the deal. The Palestinian street didn't want a peace; they wanted Israel.

Ford too has her leftist street. They do not want a hearing; they want the propaganda value of this created episode. That is worth more to them. By drawing lines in the sand Grassley may be revealing the frauds for what they are: vile liars who seek only to tear down America. So while Grassley is overaccommodating this may work out far better.

That said, I suspect the real problem is not Grassley, but Flake and Collins (and possibly Murkowski) refusing to vote yes until there is a hearing. The only thing worse than the current situation is losing the nom altogether because of those smooth-brained, vain twits.

50's pop music was a real jumble. Nobody quite knew where the industry was going, so you had a little bit of everything, and anything might wind up at #1. Might be something great like Shannon's "Runaway" or the Crystals' (?) "One Fine Day," or amusing dreck like "Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny etc."

192 Having viewed the Cruz/Robert Francis O'Rourke debate, I'll disagree that Cruz came off as too aggressive.

Edged the line, here n' there. But lack of aggressiveness is *precisely* what's plaguing the Senate Judiciary Committee (on the R side) at the present moment, now isn't it?

And it was imperative to take the smarmy, not-so-stealth Commie down a few pegs, right from the start. O'Rourke's campaign is BUILT on the false image, false narrative of his manufactured persona and word-salad rhetoric.

Picking apart that house of cards would not suffice. It has to be kicked apart, with the cards scattered to the wind.

Remember how Ozero proclaimed himself to be "a blank screen upon which his supporters could project their hopes and aspirations"?

O'Rourke is doing much the same, in Texas. Lofty, aspirational declarations of "high values", described in flowery prose. Proclamations non-fealty to "party", but to what's "right"...(yeah, pull the other one).

His proles of course, soak all this up like lobster in hot butter, oblivious of course, to the fact that they're the main course, and not the guest at the table.

People accused Trump of being a "populist". That's only 'cause they thought Trump was pandering to his electorate. Pandering, hell...he's delivering.

O'Rourke is the "populist". Tell 'em what they wanna hear, then comes the ol' bait n' switch.

Run as a centrist, legislate as a Leninist.

And that's what Cruz MUST make clear, between now and November.

Too aggressive? Hell, Cruz could metaphorically wade in with a barbed wire bat for all I care, and I'd still cheer him on.

O'Rourke is NOT an inconsequential hazard, and we cannot countenance him in the U.S. Senate.

I listened to part of the debate on the radio as i was driving home.

Beta sounded exactly like another shrill, near delusional, emotionally and intellectually immature Democrat.

Everything turned up to 11 about eeeeevil corporations and lobbyists and special interests. EEEEEvil racist sexist Republicans. Blah Blah.

Free college, etc etc etc. Free stuff for free x 30.

Cruz sounded more mature and grounded. He stayed on point and pressed Beta.

As they tend to do in these things they talked past one another.

But, i didn't see how things looked. So...that's the television game anyway.

Cruz won. No doubt from what I heard.

But, if you're silly enough to believe Democrat talking points and politics at this juncture, a debate won't convince you anyway.

My conclusion was that Beta was desperately trying to hold the hardcore insane coalition of baseline Dims together.

There wasn't a single moment when he reached out to normal, sane Texans.

God help us all if this current iteration of the Dims ever comes to power.

We get Venezula with the added bonus of Civil war and Race War.

Again...

Also note how this has played out. The longer Ford and the Dems play this game the worse the terms offered have become. A few days ago the Dems were all behind the absurd push for an FBI investigation. They were forced to quietly abandoned that midweek, while Grassley actually moved UP the date of the confirmation vote to Monday from Wednesday.

Seems clear Grassley and Kavanaugh know with 99% certainty that this is a fraud and she will not testify. I don't know how or what they know specifically but they know that for sure. And I expect they're well prepared for that remaining 1% chance, too. McConnell has got this.

240 Beto is a hard core doctrinaire left wing prog. His handlers have decided that where Wendy Davis went wrong was that she tried to be kind of pro-gun at the end, and they think that turned off the libs which is why they lost.

Seriously, that's what they've talked about.

So the reason the left is so orgasmically happy about Beto is because he is as whacked out as Bernie Sanders, maybe even more so. He is absolutely Open Borders, Cops are Evil, Guns need to be Banned, Instant Amnesty for All, and Instant Voting Rights for anyone with Amnesty. No joke, those are his positions.

Flake knows this. I'm sure someone may have reminded him. Usually it's done by putting out the word on K Street that if he votes no on Kavanaugh, whomever hires him may want to find another line of work.

I was thinking about Ringo's The Last Centurion, last night during ONT, and I remembered that Bandit Six had to create his own television show and put it on a faltering SkyNews to get the truth out.
It was so popular that the other networks took it up in syndication.

Same thing with Twitter in many cases. The message is so compelling that it is talked about, but without Twitter, Trump might as well be putting out PSAs to be played at 2AM and taping notices to the fence around the Whitehouse.

Of course having a flair for being outrageous and notorious has its own draw and helps get things rolling. It helped Teddy Roosevelt too.

257 I want to be transparently clear about this, as someone who just took the somewhat extraordinary step of re-registering as a REPUBLICAN - in MASSACHUSETTS - for one reason and one reason alone; that is, to show my support for one President Donald J Trump - nothing more, nothing less.

If you vote-down the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh (my 6th choice on PDJT's short list) you are, in the opinion of this newly re-minted member, not in the same party as me. You are, in fact, on the other side and I will henceforth and forever more consider you as such and act (with regard to my political donations) accordingly.

I know this is not a threat to Corker or The Flake - both of whom seem to have figured-out, at minimum, that the 36-year delayed accusations against Judge Kavanaugh are, at best and with the benefits of all doubts given, terribly weak.

Understand, I don't blame DiFi for this last minute hit job on a nominee with almost unparalleled qualifications. It's all she, and her decrepit slime-ozzing party, have left. This was probably Plan C or D and it's going, I have to suspect, far better for them than they could have possibly hoped. Besides, they know full well the SCOTUS (and the courts in general) are their Waterloo. They lose them, they lose the country, period and perhaps for a generation or longer. This is THE HILL they must die on, if they must die.

Nor do I blame the fever-swamp dwellers on the regressive left. Character assassination is what they do, and they have for decades gotten away with it.

Nor can I, though it's certainly popular these days, work up too much outrage for Grassley and McConnell. Sure, their decades of RINO-coddling chickens are indeed coming home, but the fact of the matter is that they have saboteurs within their own ranks and no margin for error. It's a delicate balance for them and they've done, it must be said, a pretty masterful job on getting PDJT's nominees through to date - pretty much up until about 20:45 last night, in fact.

No. My incandescent rage is focused solely on two people; looking right at you, Senator Susan Collins (ME) and Senator Lisa Murkowski (AK). Collins, in particular, seems to have been more upset by PDJT's completely legitimate questioning of why it took 30+ years for this "sexual assault" to come to light, than she is at the reality that, in all likelihood, a good, honest, upright, career civil servant and family man is being slandered by a cheap, evidence-free, utterly implausible and uncorroborated allegation from the People's Republic of Palo Alto.

When all of this is revealed to be a hoax, what department does Judge Kavanaugh report to in order to get is reputation and good name back, eh Senator Collins?

Let me reiterate Senators Collins and Murkowski, you vote against Judge Kavanaugh and you may as well, for all I care, switch parties right now. Further, I have $500 (minimum) for your primary challengers and, if failing to defeat you in the primary, I have $1000 for your general election challenger.

Not an idle threat, Senators. I've contributed likewise already to Trump 2020 and expect to do so again next year and the year after. I can do it, and have been blessed with the means to not really miss that money all that much.

Finally, but of no less importance, if you vote against Judge Kavanaugh, you are voting to endorse character assassination as a viable, acceptable political weapon. Another by-product of the Obama-era no doubt.

There is nothing - not a single, solitary thing - that disqualifies Judge Kavanaugh from serving on the Supreme Court of the United States. He is, in fact, perhaps the most qualified nominee in 50-years. The only reason for voting him down is to support the Democrat Party and leftist ideology that posits that the SCOTUS is, and ought to continue, as super-legislators - making law rather than interpreting law.

History is calling, Senators. We await your answers.

The only reason the Cruz vs Beto race even looks plausible is because Cruz acted like a complete asshole after losing to Trump to the point of not even endorsing at the GOP Convention.

True. Does anyone think of Sarah Jeong anymore? Besides, Trump continually throws out new fresh meat for the media to go bonkers over, which causes the attention span to shorten even more. One of the most bizarre things to observe is how corporations have a knee jerk reaction to twitter mobs and overlook this fact.

Well, one can set up a domain, register it and create an email account based on the domain name, but, that costs $$$. (hosting services offer various things like this. I should say, it used to be costly, may not be any more.)

Smaller companies generally have web sites that have "domain name email" but it's routed to an email address that is not domain related.

For instance, you've a registered domain of "googlesucksandImtiredofit.com" with an email address of nec@googlesucksandImtiredofit.com but, when that address is emailed, the email is actually sent to nec@necemailwhereever.com

With the second method, you still need to find someone to host your email. But, I believe that to be a cheaper alternative than having a hosting company provide your email.

Hope this helps, or, at least, isn't the wrong information.

*Been a long time since I've dealt with this kind of stuff, so, some of the horde may have better or correct information.

But shutting it down any faster would have given the RINOs an excuse to _pretend_ to be afraid of the accusations of sexism and torpedo the actual confirmation. By now pretending to believe this mess doesn't make them look noble or thoughtful, it just makes them look like frauds and suckers. They can't abide that image, not in this political climate.

This path is frustratingly methodical for us, I know, but all of this will pay off with the next nominee. We're forcing the left to burn through each page of their playbook all at once while watching every tactic fail. It's very Trumpian, really.

_pretend_ to be afraid of the accusations of sexism and torpedo the
actual confirmation. By now pretending to believe this mess doesn't make
them look noble or thoughtful, it just makes them look like frauds and
suckers. They can't abide that image, not in this political climate.

298 I beginning to think we're being played by both sides. The establishment politicians are in control of this now and I think it's become a coordinated effort of the dims and repubs to slow-walk this nomination to oblivion. I'm thinking they do not want the "outsider" prez to be picking "their" SCOTUS.

Some of my female relatives have mentioned putting wet washcloths in the freezer and giving them to their teething kiddos to chew on when the washcloths were frozen.
Another lady I know mentioned that her toddler would gum the top of the marble coffee table.

309 wasn't her account oddly specific in the detail that she'd had a single beer?

In any case, fair or not, how much she was drinking is far less important than the simple fact of the details she just can't come up with (because if she did a refuting alibi or contradiction could emerge, destroying her credibility.)

If she hung out with a loadie crowd, that was her choice, and nobody hurt her or forced her into anything and that's her good luck.

Does anyone share my suspicion that Ed Whelan doesn't want Kavenaugh on the court? His "mistaken identity" theory only seemed to locate a party venue where Kavenaugh might plausibly have been present, lending a concrete ness to what had been total vapor.
That or Ed Whelan is a ninny.

First, I will require the Hearing Room draped in sheer beige Egyptian Cotton and backlit with unscented candles made from dolphin-safe Blue Whale tallow. I will need multiple Ming Dynasty vases full of fresh-cut lilies--Asian, not African--placed around the room. I will need a team of personal assistants to disinfect all door-knobs at half-hour intervals and appetizers catered by Four Seasons. And the power to grant pardons.

Also, all the brown M&Ms Van Halen didn't eat on the OU812 Tour.

This path is frustratingly methodical for us, I know, but all of this will pay off with the next nominee. We're forcing the left to burn through each page of their playbook all at once while watching every tactic fail. It's very Trumpian, really.
