Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Ace of Spades Pet ThreadHere's hoping our fine feathered and furry PetMorons and their humans are safe and sound along the eastern seaboard. As I mentioned earlier, KT did a wonderful job while your humble Cob was away. The wonderful Mrs. Mis. Hum. and the K-9s pulled off a big move, three hours from our old home. Two of the three doggehs are 12 years old. They both had some health issues before moving. But, man oh man have the issues worsened. Do any of you have experience in this area? We also need to find a new vet. Do any of you have experience with this? Fortunately for us we have some friends in the area who have pets and have recommended their vets to us. Here is what a secure house looks like. h/t Hrothgar Long time lurker, never a poster, until now. My brother's dogs, Gus (left) and Wrigley. VERY good boys. Gus is a mix who's just over 7, but no one is quite sure what mix he is. For sure he is a very, very good pup who loves people and tearing stuff up; he generally can't be bothered about other dogs. Wrigley, the exception to this selectively-antisocial streak in Gus, is a coon hound who is somewhere between 6 and 7. These two guys go into delirium around the family, whom they adore. Gus is a particular favorite: sweet as sugar and dumber than a bag of hammers. - chicagopablo2 Sorry that it has taken so long to get these pups their 15 minutes of fame. Thanks for the submission. This is Pinkle Purr and daughter #1. They were best buddies. That cat must have been a big part of your life to share a photo some "29" years later with the Horde. Thanks. Antisocial justice beatnik, here. Given the recent birthday of the great Paul Anka, I figured that It'd be appropriate to submit this photo I had posted a few years back to The Yahoo Group of Talia expressing her apparent displeasure of Anka's "best of" collection. As the saying goes, "There's no accounting for taste." Talk about a black cat. Hope Talia has brought you nothing but luck there AJB. I’m a longtime lurker of AoSHQ, and am answering the call for pet pictures this week. Belle and Bilbo are Australian Shepherds. Belle is 9 years old and is enjoying training her new friend Bilbo (4 months old). - S&S How many treats did you use to get the Good Doggehs to sit still for this photo? Wonderful expressions. Thanks for sharing. Taco and Lola looking back as they hunt bears or anything smelling interesting. Both are rescue adoptions with Taco (the blond) overcoming neglect. Love the pet moron blog and the other AceHQ contributors. Keep up the great effort. - MikeLions, and tigers and bears, oh my!!!! Be safe out there Taco & Lola. Nice photo. We appreciate your submission. Hi from gp! Here's my Mitten. As usual, she snorted up the ENTIRE 8-ball, and didn't leave ANY for me. Then she sits and gives me the hairy eyeball. AWESOME thread!!!
My Leroy obviously called the separation anxiety hotline. A Lot. We lost two antique sofas and chairs, a wall, a window, and part of the stairway. He was a good boy too. Now, we are hand feeding our newf and german shepherd, because of old age and difficulty standing to eat. The newf waits until you put a towel across his legs before he starts eating. He doesn't like a mess. Posted by: moki at September 15, 2018 03:09 PM (mFoNl) Posted by: votermom pimping NEW Moron-authored books! at September 15, 2018 03:09 PM (CE6iV) 8

We made a discovery this week. Mrs. JTB uses those wool dryer balls in place of softener sheets. (She learned decades ago not to let me near the washer and dryer.)
Well, one of them stuck to a shirt and dropped in front of Prince the Poodle. He usually has no interest in chasing tennis balls but this must have had an interesting scent or something. He grabbed it and ran around like a puppy. The concept of fetch is beyond his experience so he was less than pleased to relinquish this new and interesting treasure. We finally got it away from him and he just stared at us as if to say "WTF. I was having fun!!" At 14 years old he has discovered the best. toy. EVAH! ---------- You know, just this morning I was putting things in the dryer and wondering what how Mrs. JTB liked those dryer balls. I use them in every load and I think they help things dry evenly, especially when I'm washing comforters or the kids' down jackets. JTB, I'm glad she likes them! Dryer sheets are bad for your dryer anyway. The few times over the years that I've had to call for dryer repair, the first question they always ask is "do you use dryer sheets?" I've learned to launch a pre-emptive strike. "Hi, my dryer isn't heating and I've never used dryer sheets; in fact, I've never used any fabric softener at all."

Stubbs was a cutie, mostly hung out at the general store, and was a pretty good ambassador for the tourists. His salary did not drain the public coffers, nor did he take junkets all around the planet, although he did go to Anchorage to see the vet once. He did double duty as chief mouser at the store, so, a real bargain. Stubbs just wandered in and took over the job. My kind of cat. Posted by: tcn in AK at September 15, 2018 03:50 PM (NXsWM) 51

Talkeetna had a cat mayor for years.
Omena, Michigan, elected a cat mayor this past July: "Sweet Tart McKee the cat was elected mayor of the small village with a population of about 300 people. Diablo Shapiro, a dog, was selected as its first vice mayor." The press secretary is a goat named Harley Jones, and "Penny Labriola was appointed special assistant for fowl issues, a position she certainly is qualified for, as she is a chicken." Photo of the new mayor at the link: https://tinyurl.com/y99phkfk Given her fur color and tiara, Sweet Tart has plenty of torti-tude. Posted by: Basement Cat at September 15, 2018 04:00 PM (3C9q2) 60
Mis Hum, we have moved all over the world with our pets, and it's never easy. Especially going to places where vet care is iffy- (Middle East). In one instance, we called our vet back in the states, described the troubles our dog was going through, and he was able to diagnose her over the phone, and tell us the medicine we needed to get. That was helpful til we found someone we trusted.
If you can make one area of the house as much like a favorite spot of your dogs' in their old house, try that. Confine them to that area with all of their toys and lots of their favorite treats for a couple of days, and find a way to spend time with them there, until they settle in a bit. The move and disruption will exacerbate health issues, because of stress. You need to destress them, so they can heal, and the confinement with their favorite comfort items is the best way to do that. The vet we called from Poland also advised us to look for AAHA vet clinics-American Animal Hospital Association. They have standards the clinic must adhere to in terms of hygiene, equipment, training, etc. Ask your friends who they go to, and check to see if the clinics belong to the AAHA. Good luck with your pups. I will add their settling in to my prayer list. Posted by: moki at September 15, 2018 04:01 PM (mFoNl) 61

Cats are different when it comes to "happy belly time." My two "step up to the plate" in stages: 1) inspect the plat du jour by sniffing carefully, as humans are downright stupid when it comes to choosing the flavor of Fancy Feast that the cat has in mind; 2) dip one paw in the food and sample it, as the wise cat knows that the Fancy Feast people change their recipes from time to time; 3) wait until the human walks away before faceplanting in the food dish. Smart kittehs know the importance of keeping humans guessing about their food cravings. Posted by: Basement Cat at September 15, 2018 04:27 PM (3C9q2) 76

+1. The local no-kill shelter in my area is always looking for volunteers to walk their dogs. They have all kinds of breeds/sizes of dogs. And since the shelter is no-kill, volunteers can sign up for a specific dog if they want to and know that it will be there for awhile. Some dogs end up waiting years for a permanent adoption. Thanks Mis Hum, welcome back! And thank you Horde for the cutie pies. I'm not much of a dog person, but I think I could make an exception for a couple I see today.

A shout out for a prayer (for those of you inclined) from the Horde.
Our community was hit pretty hard by Matthew two years ago. Some areas still haven't recovered. Looks like Florence will be as bad or worse. Evacuated to FayetteNam and are doing well. We were blessed in 2016 know the Lord will be with us again. The GolfClan is fine. Including kitty Boots. He's not enjoying the change of scenery, nor not being able to go outside. But some poor people around home just don't have the resources. They/we all need your prayers. Thanks for the shout out MisHum. Posted by: golfman at September 15, 2018 05:06 PM (rhXTS) 96
during the nearby fires earlier this year, saw a puma climb down a tree next door. this is fucking van nuys-panaroma city.

Prayers incoming from this corner of the Horde domain. FayetteNam-- my dad was there for paratrooper training during WWII. As for Boots (an honorary paratrooper?), you could try comforting him by giving him a not-yet-washed T-shirt, pillowcase, or towel with your scent on it. I did that with my kittehs when I moved across town some years back and it worked very well with them. Posted by: Basement Cat at September 15, 2018 05:14 PM (3C9q2) 100

I have a pet story. We have 2 kitty's, who were brother and sister rescue cats. They were found together in a wood pile as tiny kittens. (We were going to only adopt the male; as they were crating him up, the female, who was in an elevated cage tapped me on the shoulder, I turned and looked her in the eyes. Game over. We took both.)
So now we have 2 all black kitty's named Bonnie and Clyde. They're indoor/outdoor cats, and occasionally Clyde will go exploring in the storm drain just down the street, I think he chases ground squirrels down there. the storm drain follows the property contour down hill, and in the back corner of my neighbors property, there's a clean-out box, covered with a big, heavy iron grate. (Our older male cat got stuck down there once, and our neighbor called us, she could hear him meowing down there. I figured out I could wrench the grate off with a grate hook, and he just shot out of there. ) Anyway, Clyde was missing for about a day and a half; we thought he would turn up on the deck one morning. The entire time, Bonnie was acting really weird: taking little nips at our feet and ankles, trying to herd us around the house with her body, being really talkie. I went looking for Clyde, and sure enough he was down inside the grate. I popped him out, and Bonnie has never acted like that before or since. Cats are smarter than you think. Bet your pop trained with SGM Lester McLaney. First paratrooper company. Google him. They lived across the street from us. Fine man that left us too soon. Problem with the kitty is he's like GolfBride. Naps during the day and can't sleep at night. We will try the t-shirt thing. Though the one from today may be a little wet.
