#FLIP: PAUL MANAFORT AGREES TO COOPERATE WITH MUELLER
#FLOP: But the Cooperation Will Not Concern the Trump Campaign
#TWIST: Feds Weighing Charges Against Clinton Lawyer and Former WH Counsel Greg Craig

Aww. So close.

Per NPR:

Well, if he's not turning state's witness against Trump, then who?

Well it could include the guys he worked with -- including longtime Clinton supporter and brother of Jon Podesta, Tony Podesta.

Skadden refers to high-power law firm Skadden Arps, where former Obama White House Counsel Greg Craig found a nest. He was also under investigation for his work for the same foreign clients that Manafort was investigated for.

The existence of this particular probe was first reported by CNN, which characterized the investigation as looking into whether lobbyists and operatives failed to register their work as foreign agents. None of the people identified as being under investigation have been charged with a crime.

In October, NBC News was the first to report that Democratic lobbyist Tony Podesta and the Podesta Group were being investigated by Mueller’s office.

Tony Podesta is the chairman of the Podesta Group and the brother of John Podesta, Hillary Clinton's former presidential campaign chairman. John Podesta is not currently affiliated with the Podesta Group and is not part of the investigation.

The probe of Tony Podesta and his Democratic-leaning lobbying firm grew out of Mueller's inquiry into the finances of former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, according to the sources.

...

Separately, Craig, the former Obama White House counsel, is under investigation as well, the sources said.

Craig left his job at the law firm of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, after he and the firm became caught up in Mueller's investigation.

And in the last hour, CNN reported that feds are weighing charges against Greg Craig.

If that name sounds familiar, he was one of Clinton's lead lawyers during the impeachment hearings.

Federal prosecutors in New York are weighing criminal charges against former Obama White House counsel Greg Craig as part of an investigation into whether he failed to register as a foreign agent in a probe that is linked to former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, according to sources familiar with the matter.

I wouldn't assume. If Manafort had the goods on Craig, Podesta, Skadden, etc., and could prove they were doing everything he's been charged with, how can Mueller pass on that, even if he really really wants to?

Imagine the reaction if he said, from jail, "I offered all these documents of people doing what Mueller said I should go to prison for 300 years for doing, and Mueller said 'Not interested, brah.'"

217 Further on Greg Craig. Some may recall him pictured, with Bambi, in the Oval Office either the afternoon of January 20, 2009 or the next morning - as Bambi signed the lawless and eventually meaningless order to close Gitmo (a stupid, indefensible decision). He was either WH counsel or something close in Bambi's first term/months.

Going back further he was Ted Kennedy's main lawyer in the Senate (don't recall if personal office or committee staff perch). While McCain was pretty clearly psycho, a bit scary, and not bright, and you got all of that immediately, Craig was a snake, and you got that immediately upon meeting him.

Shocking, I know.

He's not. Mueller turned over the investigation on Podesta and Craig a while ago because what he found was outside his mandate. They are being investigated by the SDNY, same federal prosecutors that are prosecuting Cohen.

Posted by: JackStraw at September 14, 2018 07:38 PM (/tuJf)

256 For those asking about the special counsel's authority to keep roaming like this, I believe these cases are under the Southern District of NY - why, I don't understand, as Eastern District of VA or DC itself seem like the logical jurisdictions.

But the question still sort of stands. As Ignoramus just pointed out, Rosie is ultimately responsible for this Roving Utility Prosecutor nonsense - which is an outrage, no matter who is snared. And I would like to hear Sessions or anyone explain why, when Rosie authorized *anything* outside the narrow (itself illegitimate, non-compliant with relevant regs, and baseless besides) scope of Russia-Trump/2016 campaign, that Sessions couldn't step in and reassert his authority. He didn't recuse himself from FARA violations and tax violations from a decade ago.

And everyone can spare the stale Sessionzzzz/inside traitor/senile/blah blah blah "explanations", which are not explanations. But it would be interesting to hear a real attempt/speculation at explaining this. I can imagine DiGenova, not quite experiencing a coronary event, jumping up and down and passionately "explaining", and I wonder what his detailed guess would be.

That doesn't explain why he lets Rosenstein play fast and loose with the SC mandate. The logical explanation is that he fully approves of everything that has occurred so far.

309 A bit puzzled why people see de-classification as any sort of sure thing in terms of positive impact.

First - we already basically know about the criminal misbehavior of DOJ/FBI in terms of FISA stuff, without full declassification. All the pieces of that stinking puzzle are in place, in public.

Second - remember where you are, and when. There is no press in the US, in fact instead there is a loose, not formally coordinated, "anti-press" in the US, i.e. the dominant established info and comms institutions actively *conceal* the real news, in this case in particular. What parts of a galactically huge story like this surface, are explained away. The "press" is 95% an advocate for one (dirty, guilty) party/side in this entire mess - not a purveyor of info to the public.

Declassification "bombshells" would, I'm guessing, have close to zero impact, on anything. But I'm open to having it acesplained to me how I might be wrong about that.

319 There's a perceived need for Special Prosecutors / Special Counsel when a true conflict appears over incumbent government investigating itself. In practice, however, we've had many examples of Special Prosecutors going on frolics.

The answer was supposed to be the Special Counsel rules, where the Special Counsel is more of an investigator who issues reports that the DOJ can then prosecute. The initial appointment requires a finding of a belief that a crime has been committed. The Special Counsel is supposed to be a on a short leash held by the Attorney General (in this case it went to the DOJ #2, Rosenstein, because Sessions had recused himself).

Ostensibly Rosenstein issued Mueller's appointment under the Special Counsel rules but added extra language. Obviously this was by design.

Ironically there are a dozen or more matters at the DOJ/FBI that scream out for Special Counsel investigations. I'm not sure, but wonder whether these investigations are blocked from criminal action because of the overbroad grant that Mueller got, so that Mueller won't stop until a Deep State friendly President gets elected.

The Clintons are criminals. This is well-documented, and the

He's citing actual events, noting that they fit a pattern, and making informed guesses about the events that might logically occur next. Or which are unlikely to occur. He's been correct. Meanwhile, each time something happens, your response is to repeat your mantra that it means nothing and nothing will happen.

I obviously can't say if JackStraw is right but it's clear you are not, because it's obvious that some things are, in fact, happening. Furthermore, those happenings are clearly not the happenings the Democrats keep insisting must happen. 355 Ace, you blithering nincompoop:

Read the friggin' COURT documents. Paul Manafort's cooperation is UNRESTRICTED. He flipped on EVERYTHING.

Citing NPR is just stoopid: TrumpCo took over the NPR news department and now they're basically Fox Radio Lite.

Ace, you have MORONS here, who come to your website for some version of STRAIGHT POOP.

What are you giving them here? This is a failed duck fuck: you are EXACTLY wrong on the "flop" part.

So when your ignorant pray to some weirdo god turns out to be 100% wrong, will your loyal morons blame YOU, for being the know-nothing nitwit you are?

356 No, silly. Democrats get immunity for testifying. Republicans get plea deals. That's how it works.
