Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Current Pope: You Know, Accusations About Pedophilia and Cover-Ups Are Really the Work of the "Great Accuser," SatanFrom refusing to speak on the matter at all to claiming these charges are all inspired by Satan. That's quite a shift. "In these times, it seems like the 'Great Accuser' has been unchained and is attacking bishops. True, we are all sinners, we bishops. He tries to uncover the sins, so they are visible in order to scandalize the people. The 'Great Accuser', as he himself says to God in the first chapter of the Book of Job, 'roams the earth looking for someone to accuse'. A bishop's strength against the 'Great Accuser' is prayer, that of Jesus and his own, and the humility of being chosen and remaining close to the people of God, without seeking an aristocratic life that removes this unction. Let us pray, today, for our bishops: for me, for those who are here, and for all the bishops throughout the world."Guy Benson notes that some American Catholics who are concerned by this issue are surprised to learn they're being animated by Satan himself. Ed Morrissey writes: There are two ways to look at this statement, but neither of them end well. In the more charitable version, Pope Francis is emphasizing the need for prayer to defeat "the Great Accuser" and loving support of the bishops under attack. If one believes in the existence of the devil and in the reality of spiritual warfare (as I do with both), then this argument falls within understanding -- but still misses the point. The issue here isn't so much that the devil is uncovering the sins, but that the Catholic hierarchy has continued to cover them up. That gives "the Great Accuser" a perfect vantage point to attack all bishops with the sins of a few and their participation in preventing them from being aired earlier. And that's no one's fault except the Catholic hierarchy's, which includes Francis at the top. The less charitable take from this passage is that Pope Francis is equating the victims coming forward with the devil, or at least putting them in the same league. That's grotesque enough to make that less likely to be Francis' intent, but victims and their families can certainly be forgiven for that takeaway from today's homily. In the context of Francis' remarks about silence last week and his earlier attack on Chilean accusers -- for which he made a public apology and promised to do better 00 the message from the Vatican certainly appears to be shut up and pray. The most acute problem at hand for the Catholic Church is not that the devil is looking for priests and bishops to accuse, but that enough of both are known internally to be guilty and yet remain protected by this silence. "8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) 10 and find out what pleases the Lord. 11 Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. 12 It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. 13 But everything exposed by the light becomes visible - and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. 14 This is why it is said: "Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you." 15 Be very careful, then, how you live - not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil." When we think that one prevert in a position power harmed hundreds of girls and women (Univ of Michigan), the average toll exacted by abuse by Church personnel pales. But many similar things went on. Both enjoyed insulation from discovery, remedial action and due process. Recently the president of that university was belittling the carnage, and spending money to try and spin it away.
She ultimately failed, but she was able to leave with a golden parachute. Too many people in institutions forget why they and the institutions exist, and this is, seemingly, a natural result. Our current pope is an idiot, in that he thinks his position is similar to that in government, where they are relatively safe from full prosecution for crimes. And as leftist as he and the US conference of bishops are, they are hated by the Beautiful People, who want them gone. Posted by: Blue Hen at September 13, 2018 03:30 PM (SHz3e) 91

No offense meant to Christians here, but there's an interesting liberal interpretation of "Satan". The theory is that he used to be regarded, not as evil, but as God's sting operations man. He'd sniff out phonies as he tries to do with Job. Later, it is asserted that Zoroastrian influence crept into Judaism, and Satan was re-imagined as an evil opponent, similar to the dualist concept in Zoroastrianism. Know ye not that to whom ye yield yourself servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey, whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness. God Forbid" -- Roman 6:1, 15, 16 that is obvious enough, but for the "servants of the church" to be covering up their "service to sin unto death", reveals a large disinterest in obedience to righteousness. Those proven to be serving sin must be removed ... and from the civics sense, must be prosecuted. Any less is just wrong practice which has been made "Wrong Doctrine". There is a group of Catholic CEOs, 2000 of them (I forget what the group is called) who give large contributions to the Vatican every year. This year they put the money in escrow until this there is more transparency on how this is being handled. So the Vatican is feeling the financial pressure. On a personal we have stopped contributing to all general funds at our archdiocese and told them our reasoning as well.

This is simple, he is trivializing priests' criminal behavior that victimizes children and minors. We have government officials whose job it is to deal with global warming and immigration. The Pope is directly responsible for providing acceptable priests and bishops. That's his damn job and he isn't doing it competently. He needs to resign. Satan isn't molesting children. Priests are. Whether in the classroom, the sacristy, etc. ALWAYS require that there be a layperson in attendance. This is silly. The Catholic laity give the clergy a lot of deference, but this isn't a matter of faith or morals, it's a matter of administration. For the money the laity contributes and the work it gives to each parish and diocese, they should be able to expect something in return: 1) Good men as priests who keep their hands to themselves. 2) A hierarchy manned by bishops and cardinals who got where they were by merit and holiness, not who they knew or who they were useful to. 3) Clear doctrine clearly stated. There are several problems that can get jumbled up: 1) Sexual abuse by priests. It may well be that the Pennsylvania revelations are historical, that now such abuse is very rare. But let's not kid ourselves: when homosexual men are 3-5% of the male population and 80% of abuse cases are against young men, it's a problem with homosexuals in the priesthood, not celibacy or some hand-fluttering term used to cover up that fact. 2) The state of vocations. How did all these monsters get through the many years in the seminary and not get expelled? How were vocations discerned? What was done when seminarians were abused by their fellows or by the faculty? What parents are going to encourage their sons to pursue their vocation unless this rot is cleared out? 3) How did someone like McCarrick advance so far in the Church hierarchy? And he's not the only one. How do bishops and cardinals get preferment? It's said that you don't rise in the Church, you're pulled. All I can say is that the parts of the Church that are growing are the more traditional ones. For example, the FSSP has established quite a few parishes here in the US in recent years; I attend one here in Houston. The clergy is becoming more traditional as well. There's a real thirst for solid doctrine and reverent ceremony instead of the flabby suggestions and dreadful show of the post-Vatican II Church. Posted by: Cuthbert the Witless at September 13, 2018 03:45 PM (ymnmz) Our Diocese has a very solid youth protection program. It was instituted following the sex abuse scandal that rocked the Boston ArchDiocese and involved NH's Bishop McCormick. The Knights of Columbus have a very similar program in place as well. Assuming other Dioceses have similar protections in place, the threat isn't so much from current incidents -- those are being dealt with quickly and publicly. This is a problem of coverups, of those in power in the Church who knowingly covered this up and are not coming clean for the sake of the faithful. Add on to that the homosexual behavior of a few priests (especially the two down in FL for recent examples), in the seminaries, and amongst themselves. Eastern Orthodox (Russian, Greek, etc.). Every bit as venerable as the RCC. There are some minor doctrinal differences (most importantly, they do not accept the authority of the Catholic Pope), but essentially the faiths are the same. Plus their priests are allowed to marry so you don't get nearly as many closeted sex perverts in the clergy. There are also Coptic, Armenian, and various other Eastern churches that have apostolic succession of equal vintage as the RCC, but those may be harder to find. In another era, I would have suggested high church Anglican/Episcopalian, but that whole branch has wandered deeply into error in recent decades. cut funding till the pope is gone and problem priests removed.
problem (probably) is they have allowed this to fester and grow for decades, and there are too many "problem priests" to be able to function without them. They are not willing to make the difficult choices ... unless forced, and they are sitting on a lot of wealth. The other problem is the commie rot that has also festered and grown for decades (in parallel?) ... that gained "critical mass" to the point they nuked the system and forced their commie priest into power. Actual Soviet era commies worked on the infiltration, and as with our DeepState, it has now turned into some shadowy globalist dark conglomeration of evil. This time Francis is in deep shit, and he obviously doesn't know what to do. Previously, all the shit he's thrown has been stuff about doctrine and global warming, which many of the laity, and all the media, accept.
But this time he's taking on an issue in which neither factor applies. Granted, it's fun seeing the media that just loved this story under Benedict, now worry that conservatives will pounce. But their earlier stories cut off a real defense. This pisses off almost everyone else. And Francis cannot handle it. He has always been - to put it charitably - unable and unwilling to explain himself, or anything else. So he's left with 1. I won't say a word. Didn't work. 2. We must all rely on prayer and silence. Didn't work. 3. The accusers are doing the devil's work. Really, really won't work. I expect eventually he will resign, because of pleas from his lefty bishop friends, when they see just how much they're going to lose in donations. Plus getting tired of being harangued in their own cathedrals. I did see a troll on another site defending Francis because, among other things, many of his detractors support Trump. QED. Japan, after it kicked out and slaughtered the Catholics (see Silence) became an isolated hermit kingdom until it visited Pearl Harbor. China akkkkshuallly had pre-technological wars with body counts greater than the World Wars. India is ... Aztecs and the rest of New World kind of a mixed bag. Vikings ... yeah. The Iron Curtain, North Korea, Cuba, Red China, Cambodia, and whereever else you like...shit prison holes. It's not a contention that there are no places that propped up working governments without Christ, from time to time. But the majority of them are shit. If white racist America could elect a black man as President, then the Catholic church could elect a non-European Pope.
Pope Frankie is the Church's answer to Obama being elected. It shows how out of touch the hierarchy Catholic church is with political affairs. They were played, just like America was played in the 2008 election. Obama, a "clean man" according to Joe Biden, had his background hidden from the voters when the Leftist/Globalist cabal realized they could actually take over the White House without firing a shot. And they did. Which tells me even more about the power of the Globalists, and how close we came in 2016 to a complete destruction of our Constitutional nation. Only the election of Donald J Trump stopped it. Posted by: LeftCoast Dawg at September 13, 2018 04:05 PM (UsCnO) 283

The most acute problem at hand for the Catholic Church is not that the devil is looking for priests and bishops to accuse, but that enough of both are known internally to be guilty and yet remain protected by this silence.

I would say the same for synagogues. Mosques should lose any property tax exemptions because islam isn't even a religion but a political ideology. The only churches that should be eligible to receive property tax exemptions should be those that are unattached to any nation and actual religious houses. The question comes down to contributing to the Diocese itself, and to the Pope via the "Peter Pence" colleciton. The answer to the Peter's Pence collection is easy. NOPE. Each Parish is "taxed" by their Diocese. Sometimes this is an annual fundraising commitment asked by the Parishioners, other times it may just part of the Parish budget. If it is part of a "Bishop's Appeal" -- you know the answer. Nope. If, as it is in my Parish, the Diocesan "tax" is factored into the Parish' budget which is funded from the collection basket - it is harder to do. Yeah, the Great Accuser accuses us before God. But the Pope is conflating Satan "seeking whom he may devour" through temptation and Satan "the accuser of our brothers and sisters" as he rages against the salvation Christ provided for us.
It's God who brings dark deeds to the light so the doers can be revealed. "For there is nothing hidden that will not be revealed, and nothing concealed that will not be known and illuminated." Posted by: yankeefifth at September 13, 2018 04:31 PM (MTjB1) Honestly, I think the child molestation issue has been resolved - following the Boston ArchDiocese scandal a few years back, and I'm sure similar controls are in place across all U.S. Dioceses. Why we are still dealing with this is because: 1) Past abuse that occured 10+ years back, where bishops and their staff, as well as cardinals KNEW of abuse and moved the guilty priest around to hide the problem (or take care of a friend). There needs to be an accounting for this, and those found complicity should be defrocked. 2) Homosexuality that is in the seminaries and priesthood. The vow of celibacy the RC priests take goes for both the front hole, back hole, and the oral hole. Unfortunately this behavior appears to be tolerated if not condoned. Again -there needs to be an accounting, and those found complicit held defrocked. Unless there is a doctrinal change -which is another debate for another day. Posted by: Our Country is Screwed at September 13, 2018 04:38 PM (jxbfJ) 329
Ah, moral equivalence. Taking a second or even third slice of lasagna, when one would have sufficed, is just as harmful to your soul as being a pedophile, etc.
Got it. What fascinates me is that this is actually a very Protestant concept. It is the Protestants, of which I am one, who view a sin as a sin. "All good works amount to not much more than filthy rags," (paraphrasing). It's the RC's, of which I USED to be one, who categorize and rank sins. Deadly, venal, mortal, etc. They have a pit stop called Purgatory where you go to have your soul serviced, on the way to heaven. You pay for some of those deadly and venal sins, that kind of thing. They still have indulgences, which are the original "carbon offset credit" kind of thinking, only for sins. To hear the Pope declare, basically, that a Sin is a Sin is to laugh. I wonder if he is smart enough to know just how bad he looks? Does he really believe his own characterization of this? Amazing. My money is not very much of a vote as it is. A poor RC has no vote. My donations are meager at best. Donating to a 2nd collection or the Bishops appeal is not an option. I will stay and pray. That is my option. At least my Priest is aware and acknowledges that the church will survive but will be smaller and more holy. I can not leave the Eucharist.

Philadelphia Archdiocese has protocol in place that has resulted in a big decrease in complaints. Only 3 over the past 6 years, one of which was credible and thus adjudicated.
