The Morning Rant

talking ape.jpg
"You know, I'm watching these hearings and am getting tired of seeing them constantly being interrupted by idiot protesters and now I have an idea: Any time they have to eject someone from these hearings for screaming and yelling, they need to track down which senator issued the pass the idiot used to get in and then subtract a certain amount from the time the senator are allotted to speak. Because there are no consequences for these interruptions, the idiot is ejected and all is quiet until the next idiot starts screaming and yelling like a timed explosive charge. Of course, *not one so-called journalist* is asking questions such as who are these idiots, how did they get in, and what senator gave them their passes. Which I assure you they'd be crawling all over like flies on sh* if this was a hearing for a judge nominated by a Democrat president. If that were the case, CNN would find out who the idiots are and, within one hour, would be broadcasting their names, addresses, phone numbers, photos of their children and where they go to school. But I digress. The point is, by issuing passes to provocateurs, the Democrat senators have discovered how to subsidize their guerrilla theater on the sly and there really ought to be consequences for it."

We have photos of at least on woman being paid, and the guy paying her is found to be tied to a Soros organization, but of course.

So even though the circus may help Republicans, certainly those doing it and those funding it and those orchestrating it should be facing legal jeopardy.

But as with border control, catch and release seems to be the order for anything that tears down law and order, as long as Democrats are running the invasion/coup.

I mean, from the Republican Party's perspective it's great, although the fact these hearings haven't entered heavy rotation in a "blooper reel" commercial means the marketing people need to be fired. That I understand.

If, like Senator Grassley and most GOP Senators, you are concerned with respect for your authority and institutional norms, then this guarantees no one will take you seriously. It makes them look weak, because they are weak, and causes the base to desire further centralization of authority in the President.

The point is made. Unless you want Republicans to ridicule the idea of Senate hearings from here on out, it's time to enforce normalcy. And expose the Democrats putting psychotics in the gallery.

167 This hearing is *open to the public*, and you can get a pass by waiting in line. From the Judiciary Committee website: "Hearing attendees must obtain hearing passes, which will be distributed on a first come, first served basis at the hearing admission staging area on the days of the hearing." I don't use tiny url a lot, hope this works: https://tinyurl.com/yb8zmanf

I really don't understand where this "the Senate issues passes" is coming from, Committee hearings are always open to the public, although for some you may have to show up hours early and stand in line, and for very high profile hearings like this they use special procedures. I think people are confusing this with passes for the Senate Chamber in the Capitol, which does take a pass from an individual Senator.

185 167 This hearing is *open to the public*, and you can get a pass by waiting in line.

The suggestion to tint the windows is a good one. The local tint shops will know what's legal in your state, and it does make a difference on a hot day -- even if only to your state of mind. The interior will be much, much less hot when you get back.

At least Obama sounded like he had dignity and intelligence when he told mendacious lies to weaken the Republic.

Booker would have a hard time with Trump 2016. In 2020 he not only has to defeat a profoundly successful President, but run a gauntlet of lunatics convinced they alone should be the new Dark Messiah.

If the Senate Republicans are mortgaging their image as responsible and strong just to get superfluous clips of Booker being crazy, it just cheapens the Senate and makes their obsolescence visible to all.

So needless to say, I am happy for them to keep doing it.

First, the idea that Congressional hearings are anything other than an opportunity for politicians to preen is a myth. During the Obama years I believe the term was coined right here, Failure Theater. Public hearings have always been like theater even if it seems a new phenomenon. The real work happens in closed door hearings and it is largely done by staffers.

At the end of this process the minority Party will be shown to have no power and everything they have done will be shown to be not just a waste of time but staged nonsense. People are dumb but they aren't that dumb.

If Grassley had cleared the room all we would have heard for 3 straight days was that the Republicans were trying to hide something and were preventing women and minorities from speaking. It's not like CNN would have developed some new respect for the institutions or for Republicans.

This was the least bad way to get through this and what will truly be remembered is that Kavanaugh is the 9th SC justice and Booker is an awful Spartacus.

I've seen political hearings going a ways back. Including a much younger Donald Trump in 91. So it's not my first time at the rodeo. I didn't call for the expulsion of Democratic Senators, though that too would be justified, nor for the hearing to be expedited. While I agree with the fine details of everything you said, I can clearly see a sharp line between pre and post-Bush nomination hearings, so my view of th final outcome is a bit more cycnical. Note well that when hearings are for Democratic candidates, then gosh aren't the Republicans well-behaved. It never helps them among the broader population though.

I don't think we actually disagree on many points of note here, and if the libs tear each other apart over their failure, ao much the better. I do say that if the GOP has a cunning plan to exploit the crazy, now is the time to unleash it. And not in web only ads that the conservative elite, and no one else, talk about.

Exactly, they have done some solid work but never buy any TV time to show them. They're red meat for the base, never intended to be seen more broadly because well that would just be too gauche, darling. Things aren't DONE that way -- except by Democrats.

335 My solution to the disruptions - have the senators and the candidate don noise-blocking headphones that are wired with near-field microphones.

That way, the gallery can be as noisy as they want to be but the testimony carries on unimpeded. The media can be in on the mic feed as well. Nobody can complain that their rights to transparency are being violated.

It's a win/win.

Of course, the key is the replacement. Justices who have a proper, constitutionally sane view of their role and that of the judiciary - that it's quite limited - are the only useful ones.

That there are even words/concepts like orignal"ism" is your first clue things are completely unserious.

What would happen if traffic rules, or contracts, had terms and concepts that ...... just changed any way one liked, or any way a small group of people decided, regardless of the fact that the words had specific meaning when enacted, otherwise nobody would have ever agreed to them.

THIS is how idiotic the "philosophical" discussions are WRT constitutional law. Yet the idiots wanting to junk all common sense and history and law pretend to believe that words just mean whatever they want them to, and their opponents indulge their idiocy by treating it as a serious school of thought.

This is a common sentiment, but it is also false. Whatever minor missteps the President may make, they pale in comparison to the extended insanity at all levels of the Democratic Party. Bill Kristol sounds like a greasy, nebbishy rodent holding a singalong for rats.

They don't care about tone, not genuinely. What they do care about is that President Trump exposes their lies about free trade, and that the policy is broadly popular not just in the GOP base but the Democratic one. More conservatives are asking why they should be sacrificed for corporate dogma, especially thanks to Big Tech and the NFL, which gives the President one hell of an opening.

And suddenly elite mouthpieces become prime targets for downsizing.

They have to ramp up Trump hate, lest the workers figure out how badly the uber rich screwed them, screwed US all, AND got the bailouts.

Hopefully markets hold up past this election, and then when there is a red wave instead of blue, the Democrat party turns on its own ... goes even further crazy left. Meanwhile ... the people unite around Trump and America First, and maybe even the GOPe falters (as some of them are already running for the hills)
it will be tricky ... getting the globalist money invested in China to return to American investment, or even local investment. need to win this election first.

Can we donate other than through PayPal? I don't do anything personal online (or with a chicken). Serious question.

John Mortimer's Rumpole books, each a collection of stories, are great also. They were eventually gathered into volumes, The Rumpole Omnibus 1 and 2 for sure. He'd published a couple of other shorter volumes of stories around the time of his death, and I don't know know if they were ever collected into Omnibus 3.

There are also a couple of audio Rumpoles. I had the tapes, but don't know whether they're available in other formats.

And that sums up what I don't know at the moment about things I'm thinking of at the moment.

You don't need to go that far back. German public corporations have an Aufsichtsrat (supervisory board) which includes representatives of the workers (unions) in having oversight of the board.

Today.

The business of agency theory -- shareholders elect a board to represent them, the board appoints and oversees an executive and answers to the shareholders -- is a strictly Anglo-Saxon thing.

The rest of the world is commies. It's commies all the way down.

514 How O'Dipshit was ever considered a great orator is beyond me?

Well, it depends on the standards you have for "great" oration.

If you think great means "emotionally compelling" and filled with empty platitudes that make you feel special, then he's great. He's got that vocal tone and very carefully and exhaustively practiced patterns so he sounds good, in short bursts.

518 Interesting book I read years ago was The Commissar Vanished (as best I recall), that was a study of the photographs of various Communist Party officials that were air-brushed out of the photographs taken with Uncle Joe. The original was presented and then the various iterations as the other stooges fell out of favor and were executed.

I was always amazed that Gen. Georgy Zhukov was never taken on a Fredo boat ride on some distant lake.

The guy was the real hero of the war against Germany and all of his troops loved him.

Such adoration can prove to be fatal when that adoration eclipses that of the dictator himself.

Zhukov lived until 1974 and died from a stroke. Aside from the fact that the guy was worthless communist bastard and he gave himself a Victory over Japan Medal, he was 100 times more of a man than Josephine Stalin.

It wasn't even about politics. He knew that he was on a razor's edge of losing his job, so it was a lame attempt to make it impossible for the team to cut him. Obviously, it didn't work for that, but then he found a mother lode of commie cash to tap in being a loudmouth.

557 Zhukov was loved by his troops ..... that survived his leadership. His rather stupid and bull-headed approach without a doubt added substantially to the casualty count that was already inevitably high, with the very crude instrument the Red Army was until '44, attacking an excellent and well-managed opponent.

See Operation Mars, late '42. Thoroughly planned, but idiotically implemented - much of the idiocy directly attributable to Zhukov's mindless stubborn insistence on achieving certain goals even if it meant endangering the overall operation. Zero adaptation, zero exploitation of success - in an intelligent fashion. Conveniently buried, airbrushed from history, until the Soviet archives were opened.

And he did get a time-out of sorts from Stalin after the war, presumably due to Koba's typical paranoia, though he was later allowed to step back into the limelight in a very senior post.

Posted by: rhomboid at September 07, 2018 01:00 PM (QDnY+)
