And here are some of the things that are banned or will be banned in the City by the Bay. Straws. Fur coats. Bottled water. Eating at work. Vaping liquids. Upholstered furniture. Plastic bags. Pet stores. Electric scooters. Coffee cups and packing peanuts. Tropical fish. The McDonald's Happy Meal. If you can think of something, San Francisco has already banned it. Or will be banning it soon. North Korea with a tech industry and some leftover Victorian architecture (which it's banning tour buses from visiting) has reacted to the collapse of living conditions and fleeing tourists by banning everything. Everything except the behavior that's making San Francisco unlivable. At least they have initiated a poop patrol now. Meanwhile, city officials are surprised that people are complaining about the new open-air composting urinals near tourist destinations in Paris, filled with straw. They're sexist. I always thought that one of the reasons McDonalds was popular in France was the restrooms. And in New York City, trash cans have been removed from the Upper West Side because people put trash in them. Thomas Sowell used to ask policy wonks, "And then what"? Did anybody ask these officials that question? This week's VDH This video is from a speech soon after the election, and it is interesting to listen to Hanson's analysis now. It tackles mythologies that surrounded the election, among other things. This week I passed it along to a guy who comes from the left but is trying to be open-minded. It's long - 44 minutes. But you might enjoy putting it on in the background while you do something else. How could Ben Rhodes have been so wrong? VDH may have some clues. Got any clean-up projects planned this weekend? About the NFL and ESPN . Remember, though they might not be-as a group- the most deep-pocketed customers, African Americans are among the most rabid and loyal customers both the NFL and ESPN have. They buy a lot of jerseys and other NFL gear, so the powers that be probably think their decision to just ignore and not air the playing of the national anthem won't cost them anything.

I used to oversea a commercial property with multiple dumpster locations on it.
I got a call from the city letting me know that someone had dumped some car parts, engines and some tires in and around one of the dumpsters and it's enclosure. I told the idiot, "Well, where did you want someone to dump those items?". Silence, then stammering, then the idiot said he would have to send me a notice for the "illegally" dumped items. By the time I got there, someone had already grabbed the engines and other metal parts to scrap and probably put up a meth pipe. I paid the dumpster guy an extra 20 bucks to haul off the rest. that's a great video by VDH, exposing the MSM lies about Trump. But most of those lies are still accepted as fact, because they keep repeating them, and now are trying to censor/de-platform any that dare reject TheNarrative.
Nice that VDH points out the THEORY of free trade is much different than the reality of dealing with cheaters everywhere. imo it is broader than "cheating", but that sums it up well. The actual basis for the "Free Trade" flawed hypothesis was rooted in David Ricardo's "comparative advantage", yet Free (global) Trade ideas ignored several limitations Ricardo himself spelled out clearly. As it becomes clearer how corrupt our corporate/government alliance has been, it is clearer to me that the free trade concepts were not serious theory, but a way for the "profiteers" to escape US regulation and keep polluting, keep using slaves, keep "cheating". this is pretty brief, but a scholarly article on the false assumptions made as we spent decades building up our enemy China. https://tinyurl.com/y85x7gfw by at least 2001 the academic views had moved toward more strategic trade, which in practice it always had been. Of course countries will do what is best for their own people, or at least for their own leaders. Communists did what was best for them, our leaders did what was best for their corporate donors. That is government serving the "capitalists" but is not capitalism, it was fraud. And in any case, liberty for we the people comes first, and capitalism is useful under the umbrella of those (constitutional rights) terms of service. We've talked about this stuff around these parts before, but the simplest examples are depression and anxiety. Anxiety is a self-identified condition of being in a state of unease, which is all too often a mental framework problem, not an organic condition. Similarly, depression is a word that gets tossed around so much: I lost my job, so I'm depressed. Trump is President, so I'm depressed. I'm fat and ugly and nobody loves me, so I'm depressed. NO YOU'RE NOT!! You damned fool, a simple test to figure out if you are depressed or not: If you feel bad, because of something, you AIN'T depressed! Many of them, however, are tired of being so labeled, and resent the shortening of their names to such a small, insignificant thing. "We do not merely destroy our enemies, we change them"
that's from Orwell's 1984. In the end Winston loves Big Brother.. I know little about clinical depression and such, but it does seem the whole PC realm and 50 year Soviet PsyOp on America has not been about resistance, it has been forcing submission. The 60's "counter-culture" was the thing to join, if you wanted to be hip not square. Societal pressure and fake news and even lawsuits, now the IRS and our own government are forcing compliance, along with this rather new social media coordinated suppression, and fake polls to constantly show "we are winning the war against Trump the Russkie stooge". All that is part of the left's agenda ... use of force and pressure to push people into loving Big Brother, PC is the easy path. PJ Watson has a good video on where they have taken us ... It started when a group of 20 rightwing extremists started brawling with a large group of leftwing extremists. After the tiny group of rightwingers was wiped out the lefties started on each other until everyone was dead and violent extremism was eliminated. Hilarious but no can linky with my tablet. My thing right now is tree branches. Now, trees serve a purpose. They keep the sun from beating down too hard, and they sometimes obscure me from having to look at the loons who live nearby.
The downside of course, is they shed leaves in the fall, and the rest of the year, they just drop dead and/or dying branches wherever they please. Posted by: BurtTC at August 18, 2018 12:40 PM (cY3LT) I'm cool with trees. There's one out back that drops little green things the size of a squash ball - walnuts maybe? I think it's a black walnut tree. Anyway, when they drop onto the deck it sends the cats - who are watching rodents with murder on their minds - jumping about three feet vertically. It's hilarious to watch. They go from cunning apex predator in full stalk mode to terrified little bunny in an instant because of a little green thing falling off a tree. Posted by: hogmartin at August 18, 2018 12:46 PM Sounds like a walnut. Last fall I collected a five gallon bucket of them. After the first snow I placed one each day on the deck outside the room I sit. They disappeared. Then I noticed a squirrel begin to get my attention on days when I was late putting out his free food. He was agitated, confused. Why hadn't his free food appeared yet? By early spring my bucket was empty but he still appeared every day. Sometimes he would claw at my sliding glass door. But that was it bub, spring is here, get your own food. There's some psychology lesson there, I would assume. Also a political lesson. Posted by: Forgot My Nic at August 18, 2018 12:53 PM (LOgQ4) 421
for trees the method I learned (and like) is "vista pruning". That is on bigger trees, pruning them up 15-25 feet, so you have the view underneath the tree, but still get the shade and the pretty tree. Also lets more light in for grass/cover under the tree.

BOSTON (AP) - A conservative rally against "far-left violence" is being organized in downtown Boston a year after a similar demonstration drew tens of thousands of counterprotesters. Boston Free Speech, the group organizing the event, says on its Facebook page that its rally is scheduled for noon at City Hall Plaza. Organizer John Medlar says the event is meant to call out Internet censorship and "violent suppression of discourse in the public square." The Boston Globe reports more than 100 counterprotesters are already gathering at the State House for a planned march to City Hall organized by Stand Against Hate-Boston and the Democratic Socialists of America. Speaking of "on a stick". It reminds me of an Odd Couple episode where they hosted a student cellist, who ate a whole shishkebab that Felix had made, off a stick in a few seconds.
I can't find the episode, but it was significant because this is mainstream TV we're talking about, and this episode had a very strong anti-affirmative action message. Turned out the student was talented at football, but was horrible at the cello, and the only reason the music department wanted to recruit him was to fill a diversity quota. Felix and Oscar realized that he was being played and talked him out of accepting the offer. It's amazing this would be absolutely censored now. TV is forbidden from examining moral distinctions or questioning leftist principles. If anyone can identify the episode, I'd be thankful. It may have been scrubbed, or maybe my bing-fu and youtube-fu are just failing. In Iowa State Fair news, today is the annual State Fair chili contest. This is an International Chili Society sanctioned event and draws a large crowd. Today's competition was marred by controversity when one of the entrants was found to have adulterated his chili with carrots. Absolutely; A funeral service (if it's a Christian one ) is a time to thank God for the life of the person, to commit their soul to God, to remember Scriptural promises about Jesus' resurrection and ours and to ask God for grace and comfort for survivors. Since people were responding to Trump's tweet recognizing the death of Aretha Franklin with comments like: "You're a f'ing racist. How dare you make a comment about Aretha Franklin" the partisan atmosphere surrounding it would be awful Let the people who knew and loved her best attend. . I think it would be inappropriate for Obama to attend too. They'd have to a provide Secret Service protection for him as well. Posted by: FenelonSpoke at August 18, 2018 02:09 PM (AllCR) 508

Posted by: Insomniac at August 18, 2018 01:38 PM (NWiLs) ------------------------------ I don't know if I can articulate it very well. It's a matter of being TOO goal-oriented and having high standards of what constitutes achievement. It's a matter of being paralyzed in action great or small because of the (usually realistic) fear that things won't turn out the way your mind wants them to. It's the thing that made me give up painting for ages, despite loving the brush in my hand--- the disgust at the gulf between what I wanted to do and what I actually did. It's the reason why a room in our house is covered in dust, cobwebs, grime, and clutter. The carpet is wretched and we need to put in wood floors. So there's no point in cleaning it because, until the carpet is gone, it won't look Just Right anyway. And if it can't be Just Right, it might as well look like a homeless camp. If I can't have a life that is Just Right, I shall have no life at all. It's a matter of my saying, eh, don't hit "post" because the answer is inadequate.
