VP Mike Pence Receives Remains of Korean War Dead in Hawaii

The North Koreans do seem to be attempting a show of respect, if not the genuine article.

This is not everything, but it's also not nothing.

Feeling good about the Trump negotiations at almost all points internationally. If the Iranians and Palis aren't very worried... they bloody should be.

It actually is just about everything to a very large number of people. There are over 80,000 service members still listed as "Missing" since (and including) World War II. That's 80,000 families who received the worst news possible but have received closure.

Even decades after a death in the military the identification of remains and their repatriation can finally allow a family to heal. Trump does this because he can and not for praise. It is something that will resonate with a huge number of people in America.

Well terminology issues galore here.

I think you get voted on by house and senate. That is the impeachment process. I think its foggy on what some people mean when they say you have been impeached. Its a process, but it may not also mean you are convicted. I think Clinton went through the process on one charge. All the way to senate but the senate did not convict. If they convict they have another vote to see if the punishment should be that you are barred from holding office. Its not automatic. The other charges against Clinton never made it out of the house. I think.

Its pretty confusing and people throw the term around meaning different stuff. I meant in the sense of him being kicked out of office. Sorry.

Also, in low-level military roles - camp guards, for example. Many POWs dealt with Korean guards. And the famous guy who was impressed into the Kwangtung Army (Manchukuo), who was captured by the Soviets and used in the Red Army, then captured by the Germans and ..... well, let's say he's probably the only legit case of someone serving in 3 separate armies, on different sides, in the war.

And for anyone wondering "wait, why would we ever be in a war with North Korea?", you're on the right track. We've taken/are taking big steps to reduce our commitment to a true trip-wire sort, but in context the question is a good one. 163 Bandersnatch, by suspending the exercise he is communicating with both North and South Korea. Remember, Trump is also realigning our commitments in Asia and Europe. Backing off allows the two Koreas to talk without the US or ChiComs in the room.

Well...there are exercises and then there are Exercises. I did a number of them over my career and while each one offers a training opportunity for the new guys, a missed one here or there doesn't mean much. You can get the same learning experience elsewhere and in other modes.
And the South Koreans are great to train with...these guys know their stuff. Syncing up with them to face down the north is not in the too tough box.

246 Eromero, as I noted here once not long ago, think it was at Utah beach where all sorts of non-German "German" prisoners were being taken (surrendering quickly), German-speaking intel officers couldn't communicate with them, and finally a young soldier went to a more senior officer and asked "just who are we fighting here, sir??" Koreans, some Central Asian former Red Army guys, probably accounted for the Asians. But there was a smorgasbord of European non-German guys as well. The Reich had a fair number of volunteers in their uniform, but lots of impressed people too.

True story: Mother's brother was a doctor stuck behind the Iron Curtain in Hungary. He actually trained NorK medics and doctors during the Korean war. Afterwards, he came back th Hungary and was about to leave when the Hungarian Revolution was crushed and he stayed there until 1961 when after literally being forced to leave all his possessions except the clothes on his back (much like California, Illinois and New York are plotting), he made it to the States. And he had to go through American medical school for several years to get retrained/certified.

He was the last family member to be reunited with my mom and the rest. They were all deported in '44 to various camps. At least they all miraculously survived so 17 years apart is not so bad all things considered.

Impeachment is not losing office. There's a long process after that. However, it is an energy sucking process and it would be meant to cripple Trump's accomplishments and Presidency.

Still, impeachment does not mean he is out of office.

Yang Kyoungjong - he was drafted into the Japanese army, was captured by the Russians in the brief Nomonhan War between Japan & Russia just before WWII, was pressed into service to fight for Russia when Germany invaded, was captured by Germany, and since he was technically a citizen of a fellow Axis country, was allowed to join the Wehrmacht, and was captured by Americans at Normandy. The movie "My Way" was based on his incredible experiences.

The dem side is replete with all these psychologists and psychiatrists yet none of them seem able to notice what is going on in our society and to predict what could be the next step.

When half or more of your population starts to think that they cannot get justice before the law you are heading for a societal level breakup.

The Cohen tapes release makes a mockery of the client-lawyer privilege regardless of it being legal in NY, it is not anywhere else.

These sort of violations of rights only happen to one side. This is what makes it casus belli.

Thank you. It was my sister and her son. This is the sister dying of a mysterious, incurable lung disease. She is selling her house bcz of it and now this.

They have been evacuated, so they are safe so far, but obviously if her house is burned down that complicates an already horrific situation. Not to mention the further damage to her lungs from this air and ash.

I don't mean to go on about this, I just so wish I was out there to take care of her. It would been better if they had left and gone to my brother's in Danville, but they didn't think it would jump the Sacramento river.

Okay, bbl, now I've got the waterworks going. But ty for asking. It was so kind.

In the Seattle area, there are licensed growers, who are the only legal growers. They have a large list of state requirements. Warehouse, with fencing, security cameras, etc. You can be a few blocks away driving, with the window down, and it hits you. If you have ever driven by a large commercial bakery when they are baking bread, and the fresh bread smell for blocks, it is like that.

Except it is that overwhelming smell of growing MJ. It isn't faint, instead it knocks one over with its intensity.

368 The remains of 55 American soldiers from North Korea is not a lot---but it's also not nothing. US troops got chased all the way south to the tip of the Korean Peninsual at Pusan in the first few months of the war. Things got better and we went almost all the way to the Yalu that winter. Then the ChiComs came. Thee were a lot of dead US soldiers and Marines littering the fields of North Korea. The Corps made it a point of honor to bring their dead back with them. The Army not so much. So 55 is a start, but there's a lot more where they came from. A late friend of mine managed to be both at Guadalcanal in the fall of 1942 and Chosin Reservoir in the winter of 1950 with a few island assaults sprinkled in between.
