Short one tonight, kiddies. I've been out of town all week in Ft. Worth. I think I'm in love with that town. While there are a few modern glass skyscrapers, and one Brutalist monstrosity that should be imploded, the entire downtown is all Art Deco. How cool is that?
Anyhow, I got back this afternoon, and spent the time since then replacing the hot water heater in the RV. (Easy job. Piece of cake. I could do it in 10 minutes if everything was out in the open. Since it's not, and since it was a cast iron bitch to get all of the screws that were holding the old one in out, I just finished and realized, hey, after 9:00, ONT. So, sorry) Anyhow, I noticed that begun, the fast food wars have.

As many of you saw, yesterday I put up a call for help in the GP Prayer list thread yesterday, as I was looking at looming homelessness within weeks.

Michigan isn't really particularly famous for any sort of food. Detroit-style pizza, maybe, and that does look mighty good, but it's not barbecue.
Massachusetts, food-wise, has, uh, Boston baked beans, and Boston cream pie. Not barbecue. Also... not even meat.
Wisconsin at least has sausages, which cook up nicely on a grill. And Minnesota, well, they're very outdoorsy there, so even if all they're grilling is fish caught from a hole in the ice, that still sort of counts as barbecue, IMO.

If you mean a type of kamado grill, I have been thinking about getting one, although recently I have been looking at Primo Grills, which are made in Georgia instead of Mexico or China, and also come in an oval shape, which is better for indirect cooking/smoking.

No. I just replaced the 6 gal one with another 6 gal one. It's an old RV (95), and I didn't feel like footing the expense of tankless and figuring out how to re-engineer everything. Mechanically, it runs great. Ford e350 chassis, 47K miles, runs like a top. All of the interior systems work well too, gas, electric, water, etc.
Unfortunately, as might be expected from the age, the RV body has an advanced case of rot from water. It's all just plywood and 2X4s, I've replaced some of it, but I haven't decided how much of that I want to do.

City officials in Portland, Ore., say they'll be cleaning up the "disgusting" Occupy ICE camp after police cleared the area of protesters Wednesday.
The mayor's office said it would pick up a portion of the tab for the clean-up, FOX 12 reported. Meanwhile, the Portland Police Bureau has cordoned off the site, calling it a biohazard.
Debris being cleared Wednesday included wooden pallets, makeshift toilets, books, toys, plastic containers, liquor bottles, tents and furniture, photos published by the Oregonian showed.
Mayor Ted Wheeler publicly ordered the Occupy ICE protesters to leave the camp Monday, but they ignored the mayor's request.
That prompted Portland police to step in and clear the protesters. No tickets or arrests were made in the process.

I also snagged a sweet gentlemen's dresser that is in much better condition than the Hoosier. Today I spent hours scrubbing the dresser, then coating it in lemon oil. It is now simply awesome and sitting in my sewing room.
The Hoosier is still in pappymayhem workshop. Four days of scrubbing and still needs more. This one could take a long time.

My '69 is exactly how it left the factory. Scorch red with a stick. It has a better cam, manifold, 373 rear and headers, but interior and exterior is right to the fender tag. No festoonery.

Most modern plastic is made so it will break down. They add starch-based chemicals to make it UV-sensitive. Old plastic bags just fall to shreds, and 5 year old white plastic 5-gallon pails split and crack. Pisses me off to have useful objects that are so impermanent.

That's the cool part though, we have all kinds of sauces and preparations because there's nobody to tell us it's not "real barbecue". If you're in a region with a strong BBQ tradition and you don't like that style, tough titty.
I don't like sweet either, but the burnt brisket ends are smoky enough that it's not overpowering. They're a little like galbi or bulgogi, there's sweet, but a lot of smoky and spicy to temper it.

Avoid Ryobi. I've got a corded Ryobi 1/4 sheet, corded orbital sander over on the junk pile. It's internals self digested in mid-use, with only a couple of months of medium-duty use.
Too many plastic & nylon parts inside of it. And while I'm sure AOP could make some use of the motor and switch, the unit itself is a shell full of shredded polymer bits n' pieces.
Milwaukee and Makita are good pro-grade tools. Rigid and the higher end DeWalt are good upper-mid-grade stuff.
Most of the Black & Decker, sadly, is now barely above Ryobi on the food chain.
Plus, if it's just an occasional-use tool....buy the corded version. You really won't wanna babysit batteries that see use only every few months.

I was 13 in 1968. It was a really bad year in a lot of ways, but it ended really well (for me, as a kid). The Apollo 8 mission in December was one of the most uplifting things I remember from my youth. I slept in the living room in front of the TV for 4 days.

I had an 89 Turbo II RX7.
Loved that car.
Had to get rid of it because something would be stolen from it or inside of it on a near weekly basis.
I lived in the Bronx and people would steal the side mirrors, the little glass window ports just under neath the pop up headlights, any number of plastic pieces from my dash, etc.
I would go to Hunts Point where all of the chop shops were and get replacement parts.
I swear to God some of the parts I bought were my original parts.

The Mitsubishi and it's Dodge Avenger clone were two of the most impossible to maintain performance cars of their era.
1. Dense-pack engineering. Which means that there was technology stuffed into nearly every cubic inch of the engine bay, under the dash and many other odd spaces. You don't get a wrench in there to remove a part, without first removing sixteen other parts to GET TO the part you want to get to.
Actually, it was worse than I describe.
2. Infamous Mitsubishi "Quality", built in! (pssst... I think they learned Q.C. from Fiat?)
The 944 drivetrains held up well enough, but owners would ditch the car as the interiors decayed into dust. And they all decayed into dust. German "formulas" for making UV resistant interior polymers never too into account Southern USA heat and U.V. levels.
And all of the surviving RX-7s get snapped up by the serious Club Racers, and get thrashed to death.
From those three cars, I think the 944 was the best all around platform as a daily driver, and clearly had enough of the Porsche aura to it to hold respect, at least for the decade of it's production.

Heh. The red line on the tach was there for a reason. The rotary engine would easily exceed the redline RPM. Once.
Beyond the redline, the apex seals got into some sort of chatter vibration that destroyed them.
I would love to find me a Mazda Rotary pickup, but very few survive.

There were guys who would use a 5 gallon paint bucket as a stand to dissemble the motor and replace all of the APEX and other seals and springs in half a day.
Throw it back in and you were street racing at the Point that very evening.

Mine was a '77. The M-B 123 platform is still one of the best, ever.
But, I'd resto-mod one back to "like new", without the vacuum acutated climate, cruise and door lock system. I'm sure by now, the aftermarket has proper electric replacements for all those trouble prone bits.

I don't know about them being light weight. I have handled a few, and found them heavy for their size. Piston engines have a fair bit of open space inside them. Rotaries are damned near solid metal. What is good about them, mass-wise, is that their center of gravity is low, right about even with the center line of the eccentric shaft. Which is good if you want a good-handling car.

Also my dad taught me how to push start a 60s Suburban with an automatic transmission. Can't do it with 4 guys pushing. But with another truck once you hit 20ish miles per hour. The torque converter would kick in and it would act like a manual transmission.
No clue if that's true in newer cars.

I've been dealing with similar stuff with my Dad. He's home now but can't be left alone.
It has been going on for months after his head injury fall. Some family has been great. The home nurses do their job. But It is a sucky deal to be part of. Love Dad but going back to raising really big babies sucks.

Not sure what got your dad there. Mine had a fall and the Docs were all worried about seizures. The meds the gave him to protect from that possibility had him weak and sleeping 20 hours a day. Once those meds were removed we saw a great improvement. In both holding a conversation and his strength. And by stregth he can get out of bed or his chair to the bathroom with no assistance.
If he's on anti seizure meds I can look up the specific ones if that helps.

2) Decided that moment either no one was running this ship or they had no clue what they are doing
Skipping ahead... went back to real life / work or tried at least. Then,
3) "We" voted in a smooth talking scheister promising no less than robbing peter to pay Paul so Paul would vote for him and his ilk in perpetuity and .... to fundamentally transform the US (basically that's sedition).
And so on.... and it was clear ... utterly blatantly crystal clear:

The software companies in the PacNW that offer on campus dining do it because of the productivity increases. Less time traveling to lunch means more of the day to get more work done. Also, it extends to breakfast, so employees can start earlier because decent food is ready for them at work. It isn't about the Subway around the block.

Well, we beheld a baby skunk! Tiny thing that would fit in the palm of my hand. She was on it in a flash. I didn't know what it was until she spat it out the first time. Finally got her in the house, sans skunk.
Not full blown skunk smell. Just sorta chemically. Washed her face and she huffed and chuffed for a good half hour. And pestered me to let her go back outside into her pen. We'll hold off on that for a while. I checked, but it seems to be gone. Prolly wriggled out a small gap in the wire.

KTE is 2 years out of the teens, she uses FB Messenger for group chats with college friends, but is rarely on FB

A few other platforms like Instagram & Snapchat, but to a growing extent...they aren't using social media platforms at all.
There are a lot of individualized group apps for wireless that they can communicate on without broadcasting to the world or sifting through bullsh*t.
Your average 17 or 18 year old doesn't give a f*ck about the latest ramblings about politics. They have their opinions to be sure, but for the most part they are into pop culture.
