Cowbell Coming? Anticipation Grows for Tomorrow Morning's GDP Growth Estimate

Probably over 4%, maybe 4.2%, and maybe, who knows, 5.2%.

Though I'm skeptical of such an eye-popping guess, and I don't think it's a good idea to raise expectations to the point where a huge 4.3% quarterly growth rate winds up looking like "a disappointment."

In a way, they'd be right: if he hadn't made a total balls-up of the economy, and scared business, investors, and consumers with his idiocy, we wouldn't have growth overhang that we're experiencing right now.

Ironically, the Trump economy is the obverse side of the coin from the imbecilic "Cash for Clunkers" program of the Magic Negro. That program merely moved up the time at which people would replace aging cars, leaving a dearth of car sales later. Obama's economic policies move BACK the time at which the economy would grow, leaving a dearth of economic growth for which we are now making up time.

You would actually have a better functioning economy if interest rates edged up slightly.

With interest rates at or near zero the only place to really make money is the craps table called the stock market.

With higher interest rates for savings accounts, CD's , bonds, etc you could diversify your holdings and make some money in something other than stocks.

Having said that, stocks have always been the best bet for making a crap load of money, and also losing.

The Fed kept interest rates artificially low to avoid the economy tipping into a deep recession, maybe a depression. We had to buy our own debt ("quantitative easing") to do this, because no one would buy our debt at the offered interest rate.

The Effect continued without relief for 8 years. About 18 months after Trump was sworn in, a raging economic recovery was underway, about the same time scale as Ronald Reagan's recovery.

Yet we are instructed to believe by the Democrats (i.e. deranged Marxists and globalist tools), that Obama set up the recovery and should get all the credit.

Sure, Korean War remains coming home, no more rocket tests, commitment

adversary (Iran) reeling on all fronts, after being indulged and saved

And thinking the next arrests will still be peripheral people, like Wolfe at the SSCI. The leak investigations have had their time, appear to have used some "tracer" tricks, should be ready to go. Big players - actual FISA abuse stuff - have no idea. But let's see Congress sit there and do nothing when senior people are charged/convicted of abusing the system with so few safeguards.

369 I think just about all economists now agree that a slight amount of inflation - say 1 or 2% - is desirable in a growing economy. It's not big enough to cause disruptions, and it appears to aid in growth. The trick is to keep it from ever going over that amount.

We've been in uncharted territory for several years now. The debate about which event of the day is going to be inflationary or deflationary has been ongoing on financial blogs for a while too, but again, circumstances today are totally uncharted territory.I wonder if the answer is both. What if what we've been experiencing the past few years has been events that are both inflationary AND deflationary at the same time, effectively cancelling each other out.

So i shut the engine off, put it in neutral, and used the handbrake to rutch down the highway a few feet at a time for a mile or so using Galileo Power.

I think the big truck behind me was confused at first at the no-brake-lights thing, then cottoned on eventually.

I managed to steer to the precipitous shoulder through main strength, literally standing on the brake pedal and pulling up on the steering wheel to generate as much force as possible while simultaneously gradually engaging the emergency brake until the van came to a stop.

I needed a stiff drink after that one.

It seems like a desperate move; and, also a brilliant move. Trump's tweets have undercut sewage media narrative...been a cudgel. So it may be more about stopping his future tweets. JMO. Although, I think it may just make Trump more circumspect, and that is not necessarily a bad thing. In fact, it would increase his power a bit.

417 409 You are supposed to use the parking brake even with automatic transmission ( I am guilty of this ) as it keeps pressure off the transmission while stationary.
Posted by: Skip at July 26, 2018 03:57 PM (pHfeF)

Only serial killers, NPR contributors, and people who non-ironically wear seersucker use the parking brake on automatic transmissions.

(but yeah, you are supposed to.)

418 My wife is watching a BBC police show set in Scotland on Netflix (Sheffield?)....

I watched that a few years back. The thing with the Scottish accent is it takes my ears or brain time to adjust. Sometimes it is too thick. Thank goodness for close captioned.

Scotland has an Airgun Registry, of course it is.

Wow; That's quite something. Congratulations for surviving.

I am convinced it is some sort of manly thing to see how far one can go on a quarter of a tank of gas. I often tell my husband, "Don't you think you should get some gas? You have a 1/8th of a tank. (This is because I do not want us to run out of gas on the highway). He says "No; It can make it back and forth from work. We''ll get some tomorrow."
We never have run out of gas together, but I'm convinced it only because God is with him that he hasn't had vehicle accident . Riding down the NJ turnpike with no hear and using a little plug in fan thing so that he can see through a whole on the windshield

421 If I was Zuckenberg I would have done a Steve Wozniak and took my money and ran when Facebook became basically the sole player in social media. Once you reach the pinnacle there is only one direction left to go. Of course I am easily bored so I'd want to start over and attempt to build something else that was a passion.

Is that "Shetland"?

From what little I know, even other Scots have trouble understanding the more northern islandy accents (shetland, orkney, etc.)

I think some people up that way still even speak the non-english, non-celtic, norse derived local languages, whatever the hell they're called.

428 The economy is doing better because of racism. Under Obama white people held onto their money to make the economy suffer and make the First Black President look bad. Under Trump they spend freely. Except for the Jews, they still hang onto their gold.
Even so, White Privilege. is on display. Any fool can see it.

429 What if what we've been experiencing the past few years has been events that are both inflationary AND deflationary at the same time, effectively cancelling each other out."

There's some good evidence that we've managed to do exactly that - the huge productivity gains made over the last few years have been deflationary, as goods get cheaper and cheaper to produce, but our monetary policy has been profoundly inflationary. By the rights of things, we really should have fallen off this tightrope long ago.

Close; I pray a lot when I have to travel down 78 in rush hour to Newark, but it was actually the New Jersey Turnpike with his car.

I think I want to move to a town in a state far away where rush hour at most consists of three cars at a stoplight-not 287, not 78 and not the NJ Turnpike.

434 Establishment-backed GOP U.S. Senate candidate Leah Vukmir falsely claimed in a fundraising letter that she drives a Ford, when, in reality, she drives a Toyota, Breitbart News has learned. In addition,
in at least one campaign video, her campaign--while she is driving her Toyota Camry--appears to blur the Toyota logo on her steering wheel. In
another video that features her car, she keeps the trunk open, hiding the Toyota logo on the back bumper.

This is the GOP.

Back when Buchanan, by all American all the time, was running for prezzie he was forced to stop driving his Mercedes and buy an American car.
