Yeah he actually had a couple of quarters over 3%, but then things got much worse again. Every time things started to heal or repair, he'd announce some crazy scheme, add some brutal regulation, or the Dems in congress would ram through some new monstrosity. Net result: never a single year as high as 3% overall growth, first time for a president since they started releasing growth numbers.
And you can bet they fudged what they put out.

Been there and did that back in 1987 with Operation Earnest Will. We blew this $hit out of a whole bunch of Iranian oil platforms during that operation too.

I sold my 2004 Toyota Corolla that had over 150,000 miles on it for $4,500 in 2012. I only paid $10,000 for that car new after rebates.

You would actually have a better functioning economy if interest rates edged up slightly.
With interest rates at or near zero the only place to really make money is the craps table called the stock market.
With higher interest rates for savings accounts, CD's , bonds, etc you could diversify your holdings and make some money in something other than stocks.
Having said that, stocks have always been the best bet for making a crap load of money, and also losing.

The difference is that the market was already skittish back then, owing to the subprime mortgage fiasco, so it was easy to stampede. I seriously suspect the Soros helped to trigger the stampede, which I also suspect would have been easy for him to do. Everybody knew it was only a matter of time before the whole thing collapsed, but money could be made until the music stopped.
The situation now is pretty much the opposite, methinks.

Therein lies the problem of ZIRP for a decade. Most large corps have massive debt. Even small rate increases will cripple or bankrupt a bunch and there goes the stock market.
All of this was easily predicted as fallout from the 2008 bailouts but they did it anyway.

About the only thing I distinctly remember about Miami Vice was the Sheena Easton episodes, and they are generally considered to be the worst. Don't remember the plot, just remember her voice and accent. Not a good idea to mention to your wife that you just fell in love.

We've been in uncharted territory for several years now. The debate about which event of the day is going to be inflationary or deflationary has been ongoing on financial blogs for a while too, but again, circumstances today are totally uncharted territory.I wonder if the answer is both. What if what we've been experiencing the past few years has been events that are both inflationary AND deflationary at the same time, effectively cancelling each other out.

My wife is watching a BBC police show set in Scotland on Netflix (Sheffield?). She has to leave the subtitles on so she can follow it. I normally don't have any trouble, but as God is my witness, the scene I watched reminded me of the Cajun(?) assistant coach from 'Waterboy'.

I was in a dire situation of basically bingo fuel on an interstate highway. Downhill all the way to the next gas station exit, but heavy traffic stop/start the whole way.
So i shut the engine off, put it in neutral, and used the handbrake to rutch down the highway a few feet at a time for a mile or so using Galileo Power.
I think the big truck behind me was confused at first at the no-brake-lights thing, then cottoned on eventually.
My arm was actually a little bit tired by the time i got to the station...

I had to do it once, too. Fuel pump gave out, so no power steering, no power brakes on a large van, and I was on a winding mountain road.
I managed to steer to the precipitous shoulder through main strength, literally standing on the brake pedal and pulling up on the steering wheel to generate as much force as possible while simultaneously gradually engaging the emergency brake until the van came to a stop.
I needed a stiff drink after that one.

When I read that about Twitter, I first thought it had to be a joke. I don't see how they pull that off. Laws have not kept up with technology, and I would think there's an easy out on this.
It seems like a desperate move; and, also a brilliant move. Trump's tweets have undercut sewage media narrative...been a cudgel. So it may be more about stopping his future tweets. JMO. Although, I think it may just make Trump more circumspect, and that is not necessarily a bad thing. In fact, it would increase his power a bit.

I am convinced it is some sort of manly thing to see how far one can go on a quarter of a tank of gas. I often tell my husband, "Don't you think you should get some gas? You have a 1/8th of a tank. (This is because I do not want us to run out of gas on the highway). He says "No; It can make it back and forth from work. We''ll get some tomorrow."
We never have run out of gas together, but I'm convinced it only because God is with him that he hasn't had vehicle accident . Riding down the NJ turnpike with no hear and using a little plug in fan thing so that he can see through a whole on the windshield

From what little I know, even other Scots have trouble understanding the more northern islandy accents (shetland, orkney, etc.)
I think some people up that way still even speak the non-english, non-celtic, norse derived local languages, whatever the hell they're called.

There's some good evidence that we've managed to do exactly that - the huge productivity gains made over the last few years have been deflationary, as goods get cheaper and cheaper to produce, but our monetary policy has been profoundly inflationary. By the rights of things, we really should have fallen off this tightrope long ago.
