I have always found Remington a little corny, though I expect he will get Rockwell-level love in this thread.
In this case I have a legitimate criticism. The rearing horse is small out of all proportion to the standing men. It's possible that the rider is a circus midget, but otherwise he's also out of proportion. I do like Remington's sculptures, though. Posted by: Bandersnatch at July 25, 2018 09:34 AM (fuK7c) 14

One thing I have always liked about many western paintings, this one included, is the blue commonly used for all sorts of purposes. Sometimes you also see a dark red used. This one has some blue shadows, blue used for contrast in the sand and adobe bricks and even in shading on the frantic horse.

Damn! I like Remington paintings. He can capture a sense of so much motion in a still image. The focus is on the trooper and the lathered horse with the darker, more solid colors. The other troopers are secondary points of focus and make a partial frame for the rider. The rest of the image is paler, sparse and indistinct by comparison, again, stressing the active figures. Remington invites the other senses into the scene. You can smell the dust, feel the heat and the sunlight.
It would be interesting to learn about Remington's color palette (I assume it is limited) and how he uses it to get such effective results. Posted by: JTB at July 25, 2018 09:42 AM (V+03K) Posted by: Under Fire at July 25, 2018 09:42 AM (r9UYA) 56

175 I love Remington's paintings and bronze works. "
I do as well - the 3 best collections of his works that I'm aware of are the Buffalo Bill museum in Cody, Wyoming; the Amon Carter Museum of American Art in Fort Worth, and the small but extremely well supplied Sid Richardson Museum in downtown Fort Worth. The painting featured above is currently displayed in the Sid Richardson. Remington has a reputation as a realistic artist, but if you look at his backgrounds you will see that he can be very impressionistic. In this painting, for example, the expanse of the west and the hills in the distant are conveyed simply by swirls of blue and yellow, nothing more. And yet the impression they give is a perfect background for the action in the foreground. Posted by: Tom Servo at July 25, 2018 10:32 AM (k1TUh) 270

From Lenin to Hitler and from Mao to Obama, the left uses the same old tactics in implementing their overarching strategies.
1. Propaganda messaging. If you repeat a lie long enough, people will begin to believe it. 2. Divide the masses. Get one group pitted against the other, and or create scapegoats that the public can channel their anger against. In Vladimir Lenin's day, it was the bourgeoisie. In Hitler's day, it was the Jews. These days, the left has channeled their angst against Christians, conservatives, and Israel. 3. A natural precursor or even an outcropping of dividing the masses is creating identity politics. What this does is create victimhood classes who demand retribution for real or imaginary slights, crimes, and abuses committed against them. 4. Harass, sabotage, protest, and use violent tactics to intimidate and silence your opponents. The leftists are in this for the long game and any election, judicial ruling, media loss, anything that does not advance their cause is automatically deemed illegitimate. If a judicial ruling is emplaced that advances their cause, it is as if it had been written in stone ex. Roe v. Wade. If it does not advance or help their cause Defense of Marriage Act, they will work relentlessly until it is changed. The embracement of wickedness as a right and a norm, not only has the foreboding of divine judgment, but the increasing constraints of legal, physical, mental, and emotional bondage that becomes overbearing to a population. This becomes increasingly self-evident as politicians and leaders descend into madness and intend on dragging everyone else along with them. Americans are unaware of a decline in our individual liberty, and the reason is obvious. The decline rarely takes the form of sudden deprivations but, instead, takes the form of unnoticed erosion and thus, we come to regard whatever state we are in, as a normal condition. Posted by: blaster at July 25, 2018 10:41 AM (DH5wZ) Yes, Ryan introduced his "Better Way" direction when the Congress reconvened after Trump was elected. He held a press conference with examples of the numerous page booklet titled, "A Better Way" and it included the replacement for Obamacare, Tax reform, etc. It was the playbook for the Republican congress. What he didn't count on was jerks like McCain, etc. who would vote no on repealing Obamacare, etc. It was very detailed, etc and a lot of it was enacted, as it had support by Trump. Most of the posters on here completely ignored it because they had already decided Paul Ryan was an asshole for withdrawing his support of Trump pre election when the Billy Bush tape dropped and they decided to block out anything Ryan said or did from then on. When questioned about this alleged hacking by Fox News, Putin (who had worked as a spy in his previous career) had trouble keeping a straight face and clearly enjoyed the moment. He pointed out that the hacked/leaked emails showed a clear pattern of wrongdoing: DNC officials conspired to steal the electoral victory in the Democratic Primary from Bernie Sanders, and after this information had been leaked they were forced to resign. If the Russian hack did happen, then it was the Russians working to save American democracy from itself. So, where's the gratitude? Where's the love? Oh, and why are the DNC perps not in jail?

This is not correct. Delaware drivers may be poor drivers, but Maryland has the worst fucking drivers in the world. Posted by: Zod at July 25, 2018 11:10 AM (Bdeb0) I went to the bank yesterday, parked my car, and was walking across the small parking lot to enter the building. Someone was backing out of the space right in front of the door (normal space, not handicapped space). This person backs out about one car length, turning so that they could then go forward and away (from my right to left as I'm waiting and watching). Suddenly this person stops, half pulled out, and at an angle, and sits there. I'm waiting, because this person is directly between me and the front door, and I don't know which way this person is going. After about 30 seconds (it might have been 10s, but it seemed to be a long time), the driver slowly goes forward, barely missing the car parked alongside, and drives away. It was an asian-looking woman. I mentally shook my head and thought, "Well, there's another reinforcement to a number of stereotypes." They're all cute and vaguely ethnic and sing basically the same stuff. Nobody listens to them outside a really narrow fan base but they are endlessly hungry for more of the same song and beat over and over again.
All of them were on Disney TV shows being groped and raped by execs, then became pop singers to be groped and raped by agents and producers. Maybe I'm being cynical but somehow I suspect that this is how it works. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at July 25, 2018 11:25 AM (39g3+) 550

Maryland has the worst fucking drivers in the world. If you are from Maryland, and you drive, and you are offended, you should be. You can't drive worth a fuck.
Do not contradict. That is all. Posted by: Zod at July 25, 2018 11:17 AM (Bdeb0) Never drove in the Middle East I see. Egypt. OMG. I will agree that Marylanders are the worst drivers in the US. In the DMV, I am always wary of those plates. Favorite move is the cutoff. Usually that happens, and they have a "PROUD TO BE A DEMOCRAT" sticker. Yeah, I guessed. I mentally shook my head and thought, "Well, there's another reinforcement to a number of stereotypes."
Most stereotypes are exaggerations or applying the few to the many, but even Asian women admit they are terrible drivers. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at July 25, 2018 11:26 AM (39g3+) 559

>>The .303 is a pretty sharp recoiling round. I prefer my M1, or even my rem 700 in 30-06.
I remember thinking after I woke up, "If I'd had a say in the dream, I'd have been shooting a 300 Weatherby in Wyoming," but I didn't have a choice. The Dream said .303. And yes, Zod wants to purchase the British rifle. With cash. Like a mobster. Posted by: Zod at July 25, 2018 11:28 AM (Bdeb0) 561
Does anyone know the upshot of the Hawaii 2A decision? Was the CC ban upheld, and open carry allowed? Any help un-confusing me would be appreciated!

Is Delaware a state?
No, and Pennsylvania demands that you quit referring to it as such. It's a county.
