Man cannot live by meat alone. Archaeologists have uncovered the earliest evidence of bread-making at a site in northeastern Jordan. Dating back some 14,400 years, the discovery shows that ancient hunter-gatherers were making and eating bread 4,000 years before the Neolithic era and the introduction of agriculture. So much for the “Paleo Diet” actually being a thing. Bread-making predates agriculture, according to a new study published today in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. That’s quite the revelation, given the conventional thinking that bread only appeared after the advent of farming. The discovery means that ancient hunter-gatherers were using the wild ancestors of domesticated cereals, such as wild einkorn and club-rush tubers, to make flatbread-like food products. What’s more, the new paper shows that bread had already become an established food staple prior to the Neolithic period and the Agricultural Revolution. There is a real mess going on in Southern Florida. Lake Okeechobee, which is the second largest body of fresh water in the US, as well as other waterways, are being overrun by a massive bloom of blue-green algae. This bloom is threatening both tourism and health. The science here is very interesting because blue-green algae, are not algae; they are bacteria, capable of serving up some of the world's most toxic chemicals. Although cyanobacteria, which can fix nitrogen and perform photosynthesis, play an important part in the earth's ecosystem, when blooms form, especially usually when the water is still, polluted, or warm, a substantial amount of a variety of neurotoxins is produced. Neurotoxins are not to be taken lightly. The Ace of Spades, a smart military blog. Entertaining as well. Witness first hand a naval vessel being a sinking exercise. Early humanoids ate whatever they could get their hands on. Scavenging kill sites of other predators, hunting, fish, fruits, vegetables, roots, grubs, whatever.
Sometimes they had a little extra which they saved for later. Some hunter/gatherer, probably a woman, had a pouch full of gathered grain that got wet. She put the wet grain glop on a hot rock by the fire to dry it so it could be eaten. Posted by: davidt at July 17, 2018 10:38 PM (SV/HG) 64

I only knew of the entirely different song by Go West. It seemed weird to me, because the Go West song was a huge hit, or so I'd thought. For those who've heard one, or the other, or neither, here's both of them. The IC is full of people who are just wrong about things. Remember when the IC said that Iran and Al Qaeda wouldn't work together because Sunni and Shia don't mix?
They were wrong about that. It was based on a complete failure to understand what was going on. So I am at once astonished and unsurprised with this conclusion that Putin just wants to create chaos in the US political system. That is just stupid. Is Putin the Joker, Heath Ledgee style? Random chaos just for the fun of it is not what nation states do - not even evil nation states. You have to have purpose, cause, and work to your benefit. Random chaos just for the fun of it is not what nation states do - not even evil nation states. You have to have purpose, cause, and work to your benefit. Because the cost is just too high - random chaos is random. If you get caught at it, it costs you something. In return for what? I can't even. Oh, and Ben Shapiro is a tool. So with all the TDS displays this week, I am becoming increasingly convinced that the left will only continue to go further and further down this rabbit hole of insanity.
Things random assholes wouldn't even say in real life are now being said by mainstream media types on a regular basis. Implicit support of violence is growing more common and will probably eventually become outright calls for violence. The deep state / establishment types are doubling down at every opportunity. Look at Brennan and arrogant Strzok. Even our most cucked GOPers who I had hoped were starting to see they could, at the very least, ride Trump's coattails to success if only for their own benefit have regressed again. The last 2 days have re-convinced me of just how out of touch the DC Beltway and the NYC media circles with the rest of the country. (except for the fanatics in California) In those echo chambers, it seemed like everyone went insane, and the country was about to fall! But outside those very limited areas, nobody in the rest of the country has really given a damn about this "story". It's just a poo flinging shitshow that means nothing to nobody. So I suppose I'm saying that in the fever swamps of DC and NYC and San Fran this will get worse and worse - but in the other 98% of the country, it's going to be mostly ignored. It's hard to believe, but I think it gets worse. When kids return to college campuses, they will be drafted into protests. I'm sure planning has already been completed. If they re-take the House, they may simmer down a bit. The confirmation of Kav will whip them into a frenzy though. If they don't take the House...violent, collective nervous breakdown. Just preparing self bcz the outrage seems to keep notching up. It's all noise at this point for me. I kind of drift in and out of it. has really given a damn about this "story". It's just a poo flinging shitshow that means nothing to nobody. So I suppose I'm saying that in the fever swamps of DC and NYC and San Fran this will get worse and worse - but in the other 98% of the country, it's going to be mostly ignored." That sounds like a good point and I very much hope it proves true. Gotta go. But since WDS didn't get back at me about Michael Aquino, I'll leave y'all with this:
US Army Lt. Col. Aquino was one of the spookiest people our country has ever coughed up. He was a psyops officer who quite literally wrote the book ("From PsyOp to MindWar") on mass mind control techniques. Also, he was a Satanist who was stationed at the Presidio, where he split off of the Church of Satan (he was a high ranking member), and started his own splinter sect among the other officers and enlisted men called the Temple of Set. The cult was accused of ritually abusing children, but I don't think it was proven. As far as I know, Aquino still runs the Temple of Set. Freaking crazy, right?
Does it only get worse from here or is this only the final brayings of a dying donkey led by a few bad actors and followed only by an extremely vocal minority? I see, maybe for the first time, that they are capable of doing things that would "stupid their way into a civil war" to quote Kurt Schlichter. And they have no clue which side would win. And not care about the damage they might do in the process. I was too moderate (yeah I know) to know they are as blind as Lady McBeth. I will hold tight until 2020 (two scoops, two more judges, two terms), when the lunacy either gets more rabid or more depressed. Posted by: BourbonChicken at July 18, 2018 12:19 AM (rnAwa) 352

To each their own. I also fail to see the appeal of the S ampersand W .500 revolver.
Speaking of "scary gunz!!!", today I stopped by the indoor range and worked on my 1911 shooting. For the Nth time, confirmed that if I can just focus and suppress the flinch, the crude sights are just fine for relevant (short) ranges. Weak hand-only was disappointing, strong hand-only a bit better. I have fired the .460, the .500, and the .480 -- all at other owner's request.
I like to fire a revolver with one hand. I also like using that hand again. They have a big wide strap that comes back and goes around your neck. You push forward against the strap with both hands. Firms your hold right up, and causes muscles instead of tendons to aborb the shock. Would not like to fire it all day long. Posted by: Stringer Davis at July 18, 2018 12:30 AM (8ZmvG) 371

Pretty stupid archaeologists who couldn't figure out that 'cavemen' would have had to first discover that pulverized grains could be made in something edible and then decide to see about growing it on their own in one place to give themselves a secure source of it second.

Confidence in the country plunged during W's second term, about vanished with the next 2 elections, and remains low. The desperation of the American part of the electorate is real enough, and the mini miracle of Trump has applied brakes to the free-fall. Posted by: AlaBAMA at July 18, 2018 12:27 AM (giapq) Nope, but I was just responding to the nomenclature as commented thereon. Fact is, the .458 Win Mag is the same basic case as the .300 Win Mag, but with the same case taper forward of the belt, to the mouth of the case, which is "just right" to seat that .458 slug. If you wanted a .500 Win Mag, you'd have to have a larger diameter case, with a rebated rim to fit the same bolt-face. And it's a "why bother" proposition, when there's already the adequately painful .500 Nitro to keep yourself entertained and into the Chiropractor's office. Typical of him. Ultimately, the rule of law isn't looking too healthy with ol' Adam. He is all for the anti-Trump cause. Facts or historical perspective be damned, you know. I don't have much hope, but maybe there is something in his background that knocks him out. Alas, who am I kidding, he's a Democrat. Ed Murray, nearby ex-Seattle Mayor, needed 5 runaway boys in his past having carnal acts to be forced to resign, because when there were only 4 different boys he stayed on as mayor and was even took an aggressive attitude about the upcoming re-election. LCDawg, I am only vaguely familiar with the dynamics and mechanics of cases reaching SCOTUS - and being accepted. They have turned down (I think) all 2A cases since the big two (Heller and McDonald), including some brazen defiance by the 4th Circuit (MD gun law).
Thomas, in the gross understatement that seems to pass for civility on the court, noted after the last case was turned down that 2A rights were "disfavored" by the judiciary. I have non-zero but very modest hopes that the court will make some return to constitutionality WRT the 2A. That it's even a question is a reminder of how off the rails the courts are, and how broken the constitutional system is. Posted by: rhomboid at July 18, 2018 02:29 AM (QDnY+) 447

the 9th Circus only held. at the 3 judge level, (2-1) that the local judge did not abuse their discretion on and of their decisions.
unexpectedly, one judge did, and whined in a dissent. from the CRPA news brief, things are moving forward, and the plaintiffs have moved for summary judgment. as for SCOTUS, everything i've read said that neither side, Patriot or fascist, wanted to move forward on 2A suits, since no one knew where weak sister Kennedy was going to fall, hence Sowell's impassioned rant awhile back. As usual fish face looked stupid after opening her mouth: she accused him of treachery for appearing on the ballot, when all it did was show her ignorance of election laws and possibly create bad blood with someone who was prepared to support her. Ultimately I don't think it matters if she wins. She's serving her purpose now: being dangled in the public eye, revealed as a brain dead, self-avowed socialist. Crowley is on The Working Families Party line on the ballot. He can only be removed from the ballot if he moves, gets convicted of a crime or a third thing I forget at the moment. His comment was to the effect 'I don't plan on doing any of those things' even though he has officially thrown his 'support' to Occasional-Cortex. Occasional-Cortex is very very upset Crowley's still on the ballot. Crowley/Occasional-Cortex might just split the vote and let a Republican slip in for the win because there actually is a Republican on the ballot this year, the first time a Republican's run in the 14th CD in over a decade, although Pappas seems not to want to win as he has no campaign to speak of. Pappas needs to be doing tv interviews now just to get a little face time/name recognition. But the NY GOP/Queens GOP are both less than useless. We'll see what happens this election. Stranger things have happened than a Republican winning this decidedly blue district. A Republican won Ant-knee Weiner's old seat, though that seat was then gerrymandered out of existence after the Republican won. NYS is as corrupt as Illinois, just with ocean beaches and mountains. "Without US astronauts on board to operate the space station, the ISS cannot function". Ie. the space station is dependent upon the expertise of people who can't even figure out how to get there. I just checked it, and I still receive the channel, so I go online. sign in, get to the manage my account page, and sure enough, I was not canceled. So I cancel on the first page. I cancel on the second page. The next page shows up with different choices and sure enough, there's the opportunity to cancel again, that does not really read that wy, that has to be done before it's actually canceled. On the Paleo/bread thing. To call the mashed up whole grains of 14,000 years ago 'bread' as if it's equivalent to the high glycemic, overly ground and manipulated, salt and sugar added crap that's pushed on consumers today is a big lie. People back then were active, people today not so much. It's also necessary to compare 14,000 years ago on a timeline of greater then 500,000 years. The thing about modern bread is the strain of yeast used (brewer's yeast originally from the scraping of beer heads) and the speed of fermentation, both of which are relatively new to us. Longer fermented bread is easier to digest as the wheat has essentially been pre-digested.
Sourdough bread fermented with other yeasts - and good bacteria - is probably a health food. Posted by: Mega at July 18, 2018 07:24 AM (rv0Fo) 551
