Weekend Gun Thread

***

From last week's 'Weekend Gun Thread'.

Certainly an interesting gun. Here is the link for Logic Industries

So, you handy DIYers. Let us know if you purchase this firearm and let us know if you build it. Heck take photos and/or videos and show us your finished product.

Personally, I wish I was more handy.

***

A review of a biometric gun safe. OK Horde, who has one and what do you think of it?

I'm old fashioned, when I had guns before the great canoe debacle, mine were scattered about the home.

***

The legendary .30-06 caliber.

***

Thought US Senator Diane Feinstein was bad? Thought her position and knowledge on guns was dismal? Take a look at who California Democrats want to represent them. Wow. Just wow. h/t wizardpc

***

Democrats, lying scum bags.

*****

On a related note, half-way around the world. All eyes should be on South Africa.

The Weekend Gun Thread doesn't recommend you doing this anytime soon

Gun fight during high speed pursuit.

Do you have something you wish to share? Perhaps a box or five of .38 Special ammo, maybe a brick of .22LR or some stories or tips? You can reach us at petmorons at gmail dot com.

Happy Shooting!

A nearly mint 1935 Walther PPK and a minty Beretta Model 1915.

is the gun Bond used to replace his Beretta 418, a .25

Because if they chose to become truly properly informed about firearms, their positions on being anti gun would necessarily have to change. This is quite intolerable to them.

I say this as a guy with a brother who is like that. I have lead him gently to a just about reasonable positions, and then when he realized where he was ultimately headed, reflexively drop back to previous stances. Quite frustrating.

47 So, I got a good deal on a 9mm the other day, and almost got kicked out of Cabela's at the same time. See, I stepped on their toes and if I wasn't busy filling out a background check of my own, I'd have been out of there.

What happened is that a young woman was selling to the store (actually, inquiring about sale value) and they low-balled her, to the point where I couldn't resist and before she could commit to being fleeced, I said I'd do better.

Yeah, it was bad form, that's how they make their living, but fuckit, sometimes sharks get bit by other sharks.

So in the end, I got a gp100 from the big box, made them throw in a Ruger case and two speed loaders, and I got a Sig p250 for 220 cash. I was happy, she was happy, so....not rape.

49 The biometric safe is not a viable option for securing your handgun. Four plastic anchors won't stop a thief and there's zero fire protection with that little metal box. It's only useful to keep your sidearm out of little hands; a high shelf works just as well.

Posted by: Larsen E. Whipsnade at July 22, 2018 07:50 PM (bML9A)

50 Yikes, that LV pursuit.

Any LE here know - are officers trained to shoot through their windshield like that? I especially liked the weak-hand shooting out the window (reminder to all of us - practice that weak-hand shooting).

Best of all, though - I love how the officer just reloads and does a 1/2 mag dump into the perp's location, immediately upon exiting the cruiser. No warnings, ultimatum, nothing - just bam bam bam bam bam bam bam bam.

I love it only because it is the only sane and moral approach in that situation. The perp is an armed bad guy, already shooting at you, already having endangered hundreds with his flight, and deserves no breaks, whereas (yes) I want the officer to go home unhurt.

But, wow.

Posted by: Guy Mohawk at July 22, 2018 07:52 PM (r+sAi)

52 John Solomon [to Lou Dobbs]:
I'll tell you a little story I've never told before. In March of 2015 I observed her [Maria Butina] at several events and really cozying up to conservatives and making what I thought was a weak-handed case that she was this courageous gun rights activist going up against Putin and there would one day be a Second Amendment in Russia. There's never going to be a Second Amendment in Russia. I became very perplexed by her behavior and her efforts of going up to presidential candidates and congressional candidates. So I started to do some reporting and I called FBI and US intelligence sources and very quickly I learned, "Yeah, we know that she's somebody here as an agent of influence. She's connecte to this guy Tortian(sp?) and we know what she's trying to do." And I thought, that's really interesting. Are they going to tell the people she's meeting with and it doesn't appear they ever did. I thought the role of FBI counter-intelligence was to prevent contacts from occurring that are not in the interest of the United States. It sounds like they sat around and watched this for three or four years until it was convenient to create a headline.

It doesn't have to be expensive "night vision" eqipment.

In particular, green light helps you maintain your night vision, while not alerting racoon, hogs, etc...

Look for a green color filter to put over your flashlight or back yard flood light.

Well, that particular Cabela's has a whole room just for used guns, and the "appraiser" works out of a small room at the back of it. The place was busy, and she apparently didn't hear him call her back there to get the price, so he came out to the large center table where I was filling out my background check and I overheard him telling her his best price.
My buddy had taken a gun in less than an hour earlier and was not duly impressed with their offer and declined.

At any rate, I couldn't resist saying something, and I"m sure that's why business is usually conducted back there.

74 #52/undocumented illegal SMOD - excellent little item, and tracks with another point that I and others have made but which is rarely made, and just adds to the outrageous misbehavior related to the FISA thing: any serious concerns about dubious connections of people involved in political campaigns, certainly presidential ones (or almost anything else really), are communicated TO THE ORGANIZATION IN QUESTION.

You don't just let things roll along while an agent of influence, a spy, or whatever worms their way into some legit business, media outfit, or political campaign. You discreetly advise the targets.

Sources/methods are easy to protect, just make up a story - or say "trust us" (might have worked better in the old days than now ....). If you want the target outfit to cooperate and play it out a little bit, you do that (happens all the time, standard in many lines of LE).

But you don't 1) say nothing to the target organization, and 2) launch a full-scale surveillance op that unavoidably brings the whole target organization into the crosshairs of the most intrusive monitoring allowed under our system. An outrageous inappropriate handling of the situation - and in this case, fairly certain there was no "situation" to handle, so in'shallah we'll be seeing prosecutions for all the lying and violations that appear to have occurred.

So right man. Has happened many times already to gun owners. The government position is that you'll continue to be law abiding and go along with the new law.

At some point they'll be wrong.

86 My 30-06 bolt guns are both military surplus from the WW I era. They like those cast bullet reloads. Just have to adjust the sights for the reduced power rounds. I keep the brass separated for each and can simply neck size instead of full length resizing which extends brass life. Unless you are in a hurry, this is where the Lee Reloader Kits shine.

96 This week was Makarov week.

The two I have are of East German manufacture (1961), which warms the cockles of me heart knowing a now non-existing communist country provides me with firearms.

One was giving me problems about a year ago, however. About every 3rd round it would fail to fully eject and this caused the new round to bump up against the expended round causing a lock up. I polished the feed ramp, replaced the recoil spring and still had the same result. Dry firing it ejected fine, but in live fire, no. Finally, I gave the ejector, which is also the slide stop, a close inspection. It was a little loose, I could wiggle it a little side to side, which is a no go. I replaced the ejector/slide stop ( about 20 bucks from Numrich) and it locked up tight on install. No play/no wiggle. Viola! No more missed ejects....runs like a scalded dog now.

Accurate, durable and fun to shoot.

If you see a Mak for sale, check that ejector/slide stop for play or wiggle. Easy to replace and don't let it dissuade you from acquiring one.

The 30S has the cutout for stripper clips and a butter smooth bolt action and a Timmney trigger set for 31/4 pounds.

Tarzan rifle: A bolt action rifle with iron sights and a straight stock, no scope. Just like the rifles carried by the white hunters in the early Tarzan movies.

I assume you can do full disassembly of that pistol?

If so, do it, and consider the following.

Two buckets/containers. One full of boiled water, one with mineral spirits. Dump the parts into the hot water, let sit for 10 minutes, then dump into the mineral spirits - let sit overnight. Remove, wipe down, repeat as needed.

Cosmo gets liquid at a pretty low temperature, and mineral spirits breaks it down too. The combo yields totally clean parts, easily.

Not a speck of rust or corrosion in the bore or cylinders and it locks up tight. Besides being fun to shoot, it will make a good teaching tool when I introduce newcomers to BP guns.

I could be wrong but I believe taht the majority of blacks in south africa aren't long oppressed descendants of long oppressed ancestors, but offspring of people attracted by South Africa's affluence during their colonial days. IIRC, SA was pretty sparcely populated when the "oppressors" arrived.

Also, white south africans didn't "lose" anything, they very liberally gave away their power with the promise of equality before the law and brotherhood of man and all that.

The losing begins now.

That's just crazy talk.

Of course outsiders have the right to cross into your country and take your stuff. That's why illegal aliens have the right to come here unhindered and steal via entitlements and voter fraud. I mean, would you protest if Elizabeth Warren entered your house and said "Paleface, I claim this as my own, because you took my stuff generations ago". Naturally, things can be adjudicated as simply as that, and to protest would be bigotry.

Or maybe the point is this: the Afrikaners shouldn't have put an end to apartheid, since this looks like the moment where the ANC says to them "Don't feel bad Flounder! You fucked up. You trusted us."

199 EBS, How do you determine what is "theirs" (black South Africans) and what belongs to the Afrikaners? Can the black South Africans produce deeds or at least records showing that they utilized certain areas or laid claims to them in any way, or had anything like a nation with boundaries?

To ask you again, what if some random Indian (like Elizabeth Warren) showed up at your doorstep and demanded the deed to your home. Would you just give it up without bothering to find out what tribe they belonged to and whether they had been within 500 miles of your house? You've no right to impose that moral burden on others, and you don't even seem to think of the SA situation in moral terms, just might makes right. But if that is the case, do you think getting rid of apartheid was the main mistake? You think apartheid is OK? Whatever.

Mis Hum - agreed. If you value the weather over your freedom, well that is your choice. Family? Well if I'm old and my kids need/want to move, I guess I'll have to go with or be alone. Home? That's harder but home is where you are.

241 Any LE here know - are officers trained to shoot through their
windshield like that? I especially liked the weak-hand shooting out the
window (reminder to all of us - practice that weak-hand shooting).

Yes and no.
It is talked about, and occasionally, a demo can be done to show that it is possible, but it would be prohibitively expensive to run a large scale training exercise.

We have done scenarios where we use Simunition rounds in a car, with a bad guy moving around outside, to get them used to the idea of shooting through a windshield.

247 I bought a Mossberg Shockwave recently. I installed an Op-Sol clip to enable the use of mini-shells and a red laser for aiming from the hip. Laser zeroed to co-locate with a bore sight laser @ 10 yards. The mini-shells increase mag capacity (8 rds) and reduce recoil. With a 7-rd side carrier, I will have a total of 16 rounds on hand, including 1 in the chamber. A slug the size of the tip of your forefinger moving at ~1200 fps will really ruin a goblin's day.

Tried it out this past Friday. Very nice, making head and nard shots at ~10 yards.

261 135 Didn't read all the posts, so forgive if I'm repeating....re: Logic Industries....you spend $450+ to modify a pump shotgun into a.....pump shotgun....I don't get it.

Well, if you're not into building 80% guns, then you probably WON'T get it. It's about metalworking, DIY, building something you can't buy anywhere, and doing so without the .gov's permission. It's also a hobby, like any other, it's not always going to be the cheapest way to do something.

At this point though, if you want to build a 14" shotty with an arm brace instead of that birds head grip, the only choices are one of these CS12-80 receivers, or buying a complete one from Black Aces Tactical for ~$1,300. Given that scenario, this IS the cheaper option, and one without any paperwork I might add.

190 I fixed the link....

Thank you, CBD.

224 $450 for just an 80% shotgun receiver, and of course all the money for all the other hardware?....Pass...You could probably get two or three shotguns for that much...

See the first reply above. If your first instinct is, "I can get one at WalMart for less.", then this kit was not built for you anyway. You can't build a Poly80 Glock for less than you can buy a real Glock for new, yet they sell thousands of those Poly80 lowers. Why would that be?

231 "From last week's 'Weekend Gun Thread'."

...or, you could buy an ATI, Phoenix, Blackhawk, ProMag, or similar stoock and have the same thing with less hassle and cheaper.

You've obviously never actually shot a weapon with one of those add-on pistol grip setups, 'cause if you had, you'd know why they're not very popular.

The proportions are all wrong, so you have to really stretch your finger to reach the trigger, and you can't reach the safety at all without moving one hand or the other off the weapon. The controls are just laid out all wrong.

Sure, it's cheaper, but what good is a cheaper solution that doesn't work worth a damn or takes three hands to operate?
