Byron York: Mueller Reveals In Court Filings That There's No Connection Between the Manafort Prosecution and Russian Collusion, and No Connection to Trump, Either

Shocker.

Manafort's defense moved that Mueller's team should not be permitted to bring up the claims of Russian collusion, noting that the jury would likely be anti-Trump and hence any such claims would be prejudicial.

Mueller responded he had no intention to introduce the subject. Hence -- the Manafort prosecution is unrelated to the Russian collusion the entire special counsel is predicated upon.

Mueller's response was two-fold. On the issue of collusion, the special counsel, in a motion filed July 6, flatly said, "The government does not intend to present at trial evidence or argument concerning collusion with the Russian government and, accordingly does not oppose the defendant's motion in that respect."

To those Trump opponents who had hoped Mueller would unveil evidence of Trump-Russia collusion involving Manafort, it was a sharp and stunning admission: there's no collusion in the case against Manafort.

The only connection to Trump Mueller's team plans to discuss isn't even a connection to Trump. Manafort applied for loans, misstating his income level and debts (Mueller alleges), and a banker hoping to curry favor with Trump approved them, despite his questions about Manafort's finances.

That's not a connection to Trump. That's a connection to someone who wanted a connection to Trump.

So this is what #TheResistance has.

Question: If the FBI had really squeezed Hillary's outrageously perjurious IT guy this hard, instead of gifting him with get out of jail free immunity cards, what might he have disclosed about Hillary's and her lawyers' orders to him?

This is such a farce. Such treason. Such a waste of taxes. So deeply anti-American.

step 1. "we charge you with 300,000 total consective years of super crimes against the government"

step 2 "but we're offering you a plea deal of a $500 fine.

Posted by: m at July 11, 2018 05:02 PM (CwOPz)

143 A mechanical question. I don't think you can "appeal" a guilty plea, only some kind of verdict or judgement. Withdraw, perhaps.

I remain baffled by the seeming (seeming) non-chalance of the Flynn team, the mystery about additional "exculpatory" info (was there any?).

Meanwhile, Paul Sperry's worth monitoring on all aspects of the Mega-Scandal. Just the last few weeks, he's pointed out what are probably criminal acts, based on contradictions in known facts and statements by the perps (Strzok, et al). It becomes bewildering - there are so many different sub-currents to all this, and so many obvious or likely violations.

The IG report is not aging well, even within weeks. Seems like there are multiple obvious avenues of obstruction and other criminal behavior by DOJ/FBI, just as any intelligent observer has thought since the outset.

And there isn't much Manafort's lawyers can say about any of it.

I don't actually mind, because it will be hilarious when the Lrssident starts putting his political enemies in jail with similar tactics, for actual conspiracies that they comitted. Especially Mueller himself.

166 what is fairly clear is Mueller and Rosenstein (and Comey, others) are part of an attempted coup ... there is zero legit grounds for special counsel with open ended "persecute anyone tied to Trump. Take years ... see if you can tilt the next election to our mobster friends to get power back"

The question is do they go to prison for treason/sedition ... malicious prosecution, abuse (fabricated evidence/conspiracy) of FISC, lying FBI changing testimonies, cover up of Hillary billions in crime syndicate pay to play deals, fruadulent everything given special treatment (whitewash) of high crimes ... Much More.

Hillary's crimes were blatant, coverup by FBI was blatant ... do they have so much mafia power that our entire government is lost to their moles? That seems like an open question to me.

There was no complaint by the lending institution. Only Mueller's people.

The U.S. Attorney's Office has a threshold for what is prosecutable and I doubt this one would pass the threshold but for the fact that this was Trump's campaign manager, which I guess is a high crime and misdemeanor nowadays.

Bank fraud without a complaint by the bank.

I also think that they've actually strayed into "Bill of Attainder" violation as well, i.e. legislating to the specific detriment of one individual, i.e. DJT.

These are violations so fundamentally opposed to our Constitutional history as to be almost invisible: because the violate things so normally assumed that we just aren't accustomed to seeing them.

272 Krystal let me expand on my comment.

I didn't mean the IG report was bad in itself, but that given two key considerations, it was weak to the point of being a problem.

"Bias" is not a crime under the US Code. It might be a serious matter WRT internal guidelines of DOJ (it must be), but that's different. I don't care about "bias" - I care about action, inaction, criminal liability for these, everything connected with obstruction of justice, abuse of power (which are in the USC). IG report found the investigative decisions of the Espionage Act non-investigation, a clumsy inartful farce of a cover-up - defensible.

And the over-arching thing that made the IG report so weak it becomes an actual problem - there is no doubt massive, clumsy, intentional, systematic, damaging (as foreign penetration is now deemed highly likely) violations of the Espionage Act occurred.

But an exhaustive investigation by the IG finds no specific much less criminal fault with the farcical non-investigation that resulted in *no prosecutions* from this historically unprecedented crime wave at the top of the government's senior cabinet department It's facially ridiculous.

Oh - and if (if) "Huber comes", and delivers indictments of the perps, I'm thinking their defense counsel are going to be quite happy to have that "reasonable investigative judgement" finding to cite to a jury.

309 The bank fraud case is the weakest of weak tea, alleging Manafort overstated the value of some real estate he was pledging for collateral. It's weak because the collateral value of real estate, if the bank has to rely on it for collateral value at all, is required to be established by appraisal. If it wasn't appraised, the bank had enough security in his pledged securities and other collateral and the property was gravy.

It's a bullshit charge.

They don't even seem to realize what an incredible insult that is to Kennedy, to suggest he would take part in a scheme like that. We may have disagreed with Kennedy's judicial temperament at times, but there is no doubt in anyone's mind that Kennedy has always been a deeply honorable man. But here the left is painting him as being at the heart of a conspiracy that would cut to the heart of our constitutional system.

Now just to be clear, after he announced his retirement he lobbied for the choice of one of his former clerks.
(Kethridge was a former clerk as well) Like most SCOTUS justices, he was very close to and supportive of his former clerks. But that happens every time a Justice retires, and is absolutely nothing new or remarkable at all.

377 there was some college psych study ... students given power over other students ... they seemed to enjoy the abuse, power made them push it beyond limits.

Power corrupts ... we (raised as Christians, taught virtures, etc) can hardly imagine Nazi war crimes, or the abuses of MS-13. But the dark side of culture, for the not so well-raised especially, gives a grotesque power hungry abuser ... Hillary, Mueller ... the whole gang. Power -- Control ... an opiate. I think they Can't stop, especially now that they are deep into organized crime, globalist overthrow of America ... there is really no going back now.

They are drooling over the idea of deplorables being beaten in the streets ... they salivate when the violence of some softball shooter or guy breaking Rand's ribs ...and MFM is feeding that ... trying to get a violent breakout from their lower ranked minions ...

it will fail on the street level imo, but at the Mueller levels it is ongoing. Cops standing down for antifa and BLM ... room to riot? Really? The left has no other escape ... at this point, cornered animals.
