Daily Beast: Trump's So CRAZY He Complained That The Media Would Make the Annapolis Newsroom Shooting All About Him

What's the criticism intended here? That Trump can predict exactly what the media will do in any situation and that's bad because, um, why?

In the aftermath of last week’s deadly assault on Annapolis, Maryland’s Capital Gazette newsroom, President Donald Trump seemed annoyed.
In conversations with those close to him, the president casually aired a complaint and a prediction—that “the fake news” would “unfair[ly]” try to blame him and his demagoguing of the adversarial news coverage for the mass shooting, according to two advisers who spoke to him about the matter.
In Trump’s view, his critics in the media and Democrats would use the story of murdered journalists against him, to highlight his years-long push to delegitimize and bash those he perceived as the “enemy of the American people” at major news outlets. Furthermore, the president has repeatedly insisted that the culture and rhetoric coming from the American left is the real problem and far more likely to inspire violence than anything coming from the right, anyway—and that voters understand that.
Reached for comment on this story, White House deputy press secretary Lindsay Walters simply wrote back, “I refer you to the president’s public comments [from Friday].”
Both privately and publicly, President Trump has a tendency to make tragedies--including ones with body counts--about himself and his own grievances or ongoing feuds.

Even after the facts showed that this was due to a grudge that began under Obama (hey, maybe the killer was inspired by Obama's viciously anti-press spying initiatives?), the media has continued doubling and tripling down on this insane narrative -- and then they blame Trump for merely noticing what they're up to.

The only way is for them to stop being so petty, incompetent, lazy, and prone to printing rumor. They have to become professional, skilled, and trustworthy for quite a long time and eventually people will begin to trust them again.

No more reprinting activist press releases as "news" no more taking polls then reporting on the polls as if they are news, no more burying the lede or "guess the party" no more hiding news that hurts the narrative, no more printing nameless rumors third hand, no more "get it first, then get it right," no more "make the world a better place." Do the job right, do it well, and do it consistently and eventually, eventually people will start to trust the news again.

He's going to spend the next couple of days making note of the channels he watches to see if an alternate fits. I have also ordered a HD digital tv antenna to see how it works for local channels. We're rural but not that far from civilization.

204 Sling is a total bust that is designed to make you so frustrated you will either give up trying to watch it or go back to satellite.

I tried it a couple of years and here's how it goes. You come home and really want to see your college football team play. They typically required updating the software about every two months, so delay.

If you do get linked, if it's a popular game the picture goes from somewhat decent to crap constantly and you miss a lot as it buffers.

They kept adding channels when I had it but they weren't anything worth seeing. You typically don't get any deeper than ESPN2 for sports unless it has changed.

Which is exactly what happened yesterday.

A neighbor came on the bard and said that the night before she heard a suspicious sound in front of her house and then her motion-detector lights came on, she looked out the window and saw a man in her driveway trying to break into her house. She woke up her husband who yelled out the window that he was gonna call 911 if he didn't leave immediately, and then a second man also became visible -- he had been in the garage trying to steal stuff -- and both men ran away. So, the woman warned -- be on the lookout for burglars!

First neighbor replied: Well, DID you call the cops? Answer: No, because they ran away.

Second neighbor replied: Well, if you didn't call the cops, can we at least have a description of the perps so we can know who to look out for?

It was at this point all hell broke loose: Everyone erupted in outrage at the second questioner!

Why are you asking that? Are you a racist? Are you TRYING to promote racism? Racial profiling is evil!

Second questioner: Wait wait wait, I didn't say anything about race, I just wanted a description!

Distance matters, but also so do obstructions and topography. Also, some of your local stations may not be transmitting at maximum power.

For example - most of the broadcast towers are about 40 miles away from me as the crow flies. But because of hills and topography, I'm not getting line-of-sight signal. I thought I over-bought with a 65-mile antenna, but it's still not perfect. It's inside the attic, and I may try moving it out to the top of the chimney.

Most channels are good most of the time.
One channel broadcasts at half the power of the others, and we've all but given up on ever receiving it.
All channels get sketchy during the evening hours during the summer. Not sure if it's due to extra RF noise during sunset hours or from extra pollution during the evening rush hour or what, but from 5-6pm the signal worsens.

I guess what I'm trying to say is - embrace the fact that you're going to have some research and experimentation on your hands. I enjoy it. Mrs. Reason, not so much.

When I "cut the cord" I tried out all of the "Big 3"
- Sling
- DirecTV NOW
- Playstation Vue

In my opinion, DTV Now is the best overall experience. There are some downsides (there always will be, everything is a compromise) but I will hand it to them in a couple of areas:
- Price-competitive
- Roku, Android and Web apps are very good
- The closest to the "real TV" experience
- Generally performs well (not stuck in degraded picture or buffer-pause hell)
- They improve the app routinely, and Roku automatically updates. Every now and then (about once a quarter), I open the app and it is a better overall experience than it was the day before.
- Has finally gotten online DVR capability, but it was a bit late to that party it is also a bit immature.

The user experience is fantastic on DTV Now, the apps are good, and AT&T seems to be standing behind the platform. It went from "okay" to "great" over the past six months.

One word of warning, since you mention that use Roku (I do, too): Get a Roku Premier or Ultra for DTV Now. The Express works okay but the user experience is *much* better on more powerful hardware. I suspect the "streaming stick" is fine but I have no direct experience with it. The old-gen Roku TVs (non-4k TVs with built-in Roku) are not up to the task for the newest-gen DTV Now.

It depends on your region, alas. If most of your towers are in one place, you won't need to once you get aimed properly in the first place. If you have clusters of towers, you may need to. They have motorized antennae for this. In general, it also depends on what you want. Most of the mainline channels (the typical alphabet soup) are in one geographical areas, and the former UHF channels will be in another when you have this setup in your area.

Reason is spot-on. antennaweb.org is great, and I used it to maximum effect along with my handy compass.

When I "cut the cord" I tried out all of the "Big 3"
- Sling
- DirecTV NOW
- Playstation Vue

In my opinion, DTV Now is the best overall experience. There are some downsides (there always will be, everything is a compromise) but I will hand it to them in a couple of areas:
- Price-competitive
- Roku, Android and Web apps are very good
- The closest to the "real TV" experience
- Generally performs well (not stuck in degraded picture or buffer-pause hell)
- They improve the app routinely, and Roku automatically updates. Every now and then (about once a quarter), I open the app and it is a better overall experience than it was the day before.
- Has finally gotten online DVR capability, but it was a bit late to that party it is also a bit immature.

The user experience is fantastic on DTV Now, the apps are good, and AT&T seems to be standing behind the platform. It went from "okay" to "great" over the past six months.

One word of warning, since you mention that use Roku (I do, too): Get a Roku Premier or Ultra for DTV Now. The Express works okay but the user experience is *much* better on more powerful hardware. I suspect the "streaming stick" is fine but I have no direct experience with it. The old-gen Roku TVs (non-4k TVs with built-in Roku) are not up to the task for the newest-gen DTV Now.

On the occasional burglar / peddler / prowler conversation, there have been some challenges when race of the person was raised - "are you sure or are you assuming? We don't have pictures, so how do we know?"

299 204, 210. i have sling and am generally satisfied (plus for $5 more you can get TCM and watch movies which need to rely on plot and dialog instead of action). here's the important thing, IMHO, i tried running sling thru the built in software in my smart LG TV. tons of buffering issues. then i switched to running sling thru my ROKU box. all the buffering issues went away. conclusion: run sling thru ROKU not thru your TV's internal apps.

The best did everything they could to tell stories visually.

The Passion of Joan of Arc is probably the best silent movie ever, and one of the most common complaints about it is that it uses any intertitles at all. They're unnecessary to follow the story.

345 Roku is a device not a service. Sling and DTV Now are services that run on devices - like your phone, computer, tablet, Smart TV, Apple TV, Amazon Fire, or Roku.

First, eff the Smart TVs. They work pretty well for Netflix, generally, at first. And then the firmware gets old and its a 3 year old TV and we don't really support it anymore so eh.

Direct TV Now is probably the best service in terms of offerings to price right now. However, the latest software release makes our Roku and Apple TV have the sadz. Except my last year Premier Roku - that one keeps up still. Processors matter. The little stick ones will have issues regardless. So kind of resign yourself to buying a new device every 1.5-2 years.

Sling is better at "on demand"

Should never have been a neighborhood bulletinboard.

It should have a been a visual icon board on which you can put icons to denote events or notices without commentary

EG: Lost Dog - find the icon in a search bar, type in the time frame, and place the icon over the general area. Neighbor finds the dog, hits the Lost Dog icon and puts in a meeting time and a location, like on a corner. No comments necessary.

Prowler - find icon in search bar, type in the time frame, click the option that the prowler was reported to police. Police can then respond with official report under the original icon. Again no commentary except for official police response.

Free junk / garage sale - time and date only no comments.

Most of the usefullness of such a site could have been done without inviting commentary or unneeded opinions.

The rest of the leads in our area are total control-freak wierdoes, as you would expect. Some are socialists transplants, one is a power-hungry witch that keeps running for mayor and never gets in thankfully...

Mrs. Reason drives the other wierdo leads INSANE because she usually won't vote to block or ban or remove comments, and will even go in and reinstate stuff when she's overruled.

It's a truly weird system of authority as a whole with the program. But the other leads are stuck with her, and she refuses to let them wield arbitrary authoritarian power over the fiefs of our small town. It's a beautiful thing.
