While we're at it, Stephen Breyer should retire too. This call has nothing to do with either justice's job performance. Ginsburg's commanding dissent in last year's 5-4 decision to overturn a key provision of the Voting Rights Act is compelling evidence that she remains a vital member of the court.
But no longer is the decision of when to retire about them; rather it's about what comes after they leave the court. If Ginsburg and Breyer wait to retire, it will only serve to maximize the possibility that a Republican president will choose their successor and in the process undo much of what they've worked for their entire careers.

I too was a fan of Debbie Harry.. not sure about TShift being over the hill at 28 as the missus and I and 50K of our closest friends watched her concert in the University football stadium last night and anyone doing a stadium tour certainly isn't over the hill IMHO... it was a solid concert despite the heat and traffic getting in n out.

We tend to forget just how effective a simple fan can be. Had a real hot day here last week, and I was in barn cleanup mode. There was the remains of an old service station battery charger in the barn, and I dragged back to the garage to dismember it, having a good one to use, now. I was sweating like a pig, had to stop every couple of minutes to wipe my brow. So I took the fan out of the battery charger, wired a cord to it, and clamped it to the rim of roller tool box, and turned it on. Instant comfort! That thing blows a huge breeze. Wouldn't want to get a finger in it, though.
How old was the battery charger? Well, it had a selenium rectifier in it, and those are 40 years or more obsolete.

Also, Obrador will need to raise money in order to finance any new leftist schemes - but Mexico isn't a place where there are all that many "rich". The only obvious place to raise a lot of money is to go after the Narco gangs, who control untold billions and who now make up a significant part of the Mexican economy. But again, this won't be an easy thing to do, these are some of the most scary violent people in the world. They aren't going away quietly.
Most likely Obrador will fail and become unpopular pretty quickly, just like all Mexican Presidents fail and become unpopular, and for the same reasons.

Mike, I have a good friend in Chicago (that I badgered for years to go vote) who voted for TFG in 2008. By 2009, he was apologizing to me about his vote.
As you might guess, the press in IL was blowing TFG like he was the 2nd Messiah back then and his jism would extend their lifespan.

I first heard of Lone Justice on MTV, when I learned they were U2's opening act during their 1985 tour supporting The Unforgettable Fire. I was such a huge U2 fan at the time, I looked for and bought Lone Justice's album without even hearing a single track on it.
At the time I liked but didn't love it... but it's one of those albums that's grown on me.

I agree - the central government kinda controls Mexico City and a few other large population centers. But it's hard to overstate just how weak and fragmented the Mexican Gov't actually is.

There would be these things called "laws", enacted and signed by accountable politicians, as was the design. Same applies to the other quote. The constitution created two accountable, elected branches to make policy decisions. Decisions on important matters not directly addressed in the constitution are for them, and/or for the constitutional amendment process, to decide. Not unelected and (obviously) incompetent judges.

If to gets as bad as it might, Trump is going to have go far beyond tweets about bad immigration laws and do a national address and a special appeal to Congress to take emergency measures.
I'd say about 80% of the country (no exaggeration) would support him, and should allow him to push the Hill.
On-topic, but also real, this may lead to a situation where Trump and his team may regret not repudiating a lawless judiciary earlier (admissions EO nonsense). There's little doubt a dozen district courts or circuits wouldn't hesitate to try and hand-cuff Trump in a true border crisis - THAT's how far gone the country is, institutionally. He's literally have no choice but to repudiate, he'd obviously be in the right (by the law), and 80% of the country would back him.
Lots of long-shot things have to go right, but could end up being a turning point.

I took a friend of mine on a train trip once. We got pretty blasted and the cafe attendant cut us off. I said "Okey Dokey" but my friend did not want to hear it and despite my pleadings that it was not a good idea, she insisted upon going to question the conductor about the decision. Now the conductor really doesn't give a shit, but he's gonna back his crew, as he should. My friend would not/could not shut up. Our station came before any real trouble could arise thank goodness.

The stock of those involved in slavery would have broadened, and there well might have been separate classes of slavery.
Many will tell you that some roots of the Civil War sprang from the different regional biases toward the beginning of the War of 1812. You could make the argument that the South felt considerably different from the North about the settlement of the Mexican War.
Big hero of Mexican war? Jefferson Davis. Accused of war crimes? The same.

My aunt made it through, and even remarried three years ago. She is a career nurse, and so was used to seeing a lot of human suffering so she has had the constitution to endure all the pain.

It's a permanent solution to a temporary problem in many cases.
If anyone knew how to stop it, we would. It takes a real reckoning to change how you view the world and your place in it. For some, thankfully the light bulb clicks on. For others, they are too efficient at their task.
I'm a firm believer that such quantum shifts can only come from the intervention of the divine. Two things changed my life from the self-absorbed hell hole it was: God and my daughter.
What I've come to realize is that it took the knowledge that I had to serve others, my Lord and my child, to stop fixating on my lot in life.
If I could offer any advice to anyone suffering from depression or with a loved one that suffers from it, it would be this, don't concentrate on making them feel loved, concentrate on making them feel counted on and depended on and needed.
Then life has purpose. Half of your feelings of worthlessness come from the constant internal belief that you are a burden to those around you.

The "wall" need not be a uniform design for its entire length. What it needs to be is a sufficiently difficult barrier to passage that it dissuades all but the most reckless. Combine that with intrusion detection devices and a "shoot on sight" zone, and you approach the ideal.

The missus and I went there last October.
It was the start of a Danube cruise.
We liked it very much.
If you are going to stay there for any length of time, buy the local currency, no Euros there.
I paid for some cab rides with USD and the cabbies seemed grateful for them, but only because I probably overpaid by 10% or so.
Food and music, very good. Go see the symphony.
Miklos posts occasionally from there, apparently I strolled right past his flat.
The cruise was great.
Highly recommended.

Giant square-shaped rings of heavy-duty chicken wire of a sort, inside that industrial-grade cardboard walls (also square), inside THAT - sand, dirt, whatever the ground nearby is, dumped in by backhoes. Stackable, up to 2-3 layers, at least.
Very quick, very cheap, very effective. A double-thick line of these was normally considered adequate against V-BIEDs (truck bombs). Would be more than adequate for the use in question. Miles of those in key spots could be erected in days.

We could easily launch a massive public communications campaign that by itself would have a huge impact. Make it clear that unauthorized crossings (and asylum requests) will *not* happen at the border, period. This would make much of the fortification moot - but that would still have to happen anyway.
As with a permanent security system, *part* of the value of it all is the visible concrete expression of political will to enforce sovereignty and the law. That by itself will both solve much of the ongoing problem, and shrink it in the future.

There is literally almost no constituency for the extreme irresponsible migration/immigration idiocies one hears promoted. Over 80% of people oppose "sanctuary" policies. A true border crisis/rush would be as one-sided as any political issue could be.
So I could see a split. Those from truly deranged/moonbat/dysfunctional districts might go nuts - but not that many others.
If it proved impossible to distort the issue - which I think it would - then the Dems and press and Beltway GOPe would not make that banzai charge. At least many wouldn't.

We would have programs at the place I worked at, that corporate would come up with some goofy thing every 3 years or so. After 2 years of trying to implement it, they would realize, like we did the first month, that it was a waste of time. In celebration of the new deal in Mexico, I'm heating up two microwave beef & bean with green chile burritos for breakfast!
Not too bad; mostly bean dip with a hint of spicy green chile wrapped in a tortilla.

Those corporate mandated improvement plans generately come with a corporate staff change/promotion. Their new pet project will fix everything once everyone is on board. The thing I love most is the reporting/auditing for the old systems never gets eliminated. We're left completing dead procedures for former bosses that will fill in check boxes for middle management that just go to the files, while also getting new reporting requirements that will also end up in dead files after the next suit is promoted.
