4 Sure keep the focus on Trump because he hasn't already called out the commiecrats for being obstructionists and not wanting a solution.

Keep the focus on him so he can get on his bully pulpit and speechify about how you proved him right.

Are the dems getting help drawing up plays from the GOPes?

Looks vaguely familiar to when Trump proposed 2 times the DACA kids, or whatever the insane number was.

Proved, without a doubt how much the Democrats cared about them too.

8 Couple of days and this will die out.
Given that The Hill is stating "about the kids or Trump" - MSM will have to give it focus as long as R's point to it when asked.

Trump. It's about Trump.

A lot of citizens don't realize that. They do care for the children, but the Resistance (that big glob of entities) are exploiting these children for their own agenda.

Because that is what they do. It's evil. Using innocents is evil in my book. These children, toddlers, babies, are innocents. To the Resistance leaders, they are but pawns on a chessboard.

63 FFS, there is no aspect of this that approaches being a "humanitarian crisis" - except for the criminal actions of Mexico, Guatemala, and others in permitting the dangerous transit of migrants who have no legal basis to enter the US.

"The kids" are a handful, they are not separated permanently or even for very long from their parents, and their health and physical safety and excellent treatment are not in question (I believe a group of them in the San Diego area recently did a "field trip" to the SD Zoo - Gen. Hayden to the courtesy Holocaust Shitposter phone, Gen. Hayden to the courtesy Holocaust Shitposter phone).

Unless DHS and everyone else has been misinforming me, the (bogus, ridiculous) asylum seekers arriving at ports of entry do *NOT* face family separation - only the illegal border crossers. So Cruz is fixing something that ain't broken (insofar as we're talking asylum category). Expediting asylum processing is fine - but make it 7 days.

And FFS, if there's any legal bar to it, also fix the inability of BP to *immediately* deport all illegal border crossers (I don't think there is, I should know).

What in the UN is not corrupt and useless anymore? During the migrant crisis in EU, they utterly failed women. There was a US rep that excoriated them for it too. All these organizations do is criticize others for not doing what they themselves are supposed to be doing.

Plus, we know UN forces did unspeakable things. Keep the UN so leaders can talk and meet...but that is it. Pull our money. It is being misused. The UN has become a lumbering wooly mammoth that vacuums up money.

Seriously, when Angelina Jolie was appointed to the UN High Commission...well...it was appalling. Not a slam against her, but was there really not someone more educated and deserving? Then, they wanted to appoint Idi Amin to some position. The whole thing is a joke.

177 Today In History: May 19th, 1944 - The Marianas Turkey Shoot

On this day in 1944, in what would become known as the "Marianas Turkey Shoot," U.S. carrier-based fighters decimate the Japanese Fleet with a minimum number of losses in the Battle of the Philippine Sea.

The security of the Marianas Islands, in the western Pacific, were vital to Japan, which had air bases on Saipan, Tinian, and Guam. U.S. troops were already battling the Japanese on Saipan, having landed there on the 15th. Any further intrusion would leave the Philippine Islands, and Japan itself, vulnerable to U.S. attack.

The U.S. Fifth Fleet, commanded by Admiral Raymond Spruance, was on its way west from the Marshall Islands as backup for the invasion of Saipan and the rest of the Marianas. But Japanese Admiral Ozawa Jisaburo decided to challenge the American fleet, ordering 430 of his planes, launched from aircraft carriers, to attack. In what became the greatest carrier battle of the war, the United States, having already picked up the Japanese craft on radar, proceeded to shoot down more than 300 aircraft and sink two Japanese aircraft carriers, losing only 29 of their own planes in the process. It was described in the aftermath as a "turkey shoot."

187 Good. This is actually awesome. Let's go through some of this:
"There are so many obstacles to legislation and when the president can do it with his own pen, it makes no sense," Schumer told reporters. "Legislation is not the way to go here when it's so easy for the president to sign it."

AND:
"Again, the president can change it with his pen," he said, warning that Republicans would likely try to add poison-pill provisions to any immigration bill that came to the floor.
"Unacceptable additions have bogged down every piece of legislation we've done," he said.
======
This is remarkable and we have it right from the horse's mouth:
1) They *favor* a dictatorial presidency and want Trump to be that dictator
2) They are opposed to unrelated riders in legislation
3) They are unwilling to own any part of the narrative they created

This is unbelievable. Do they have any idea how much they are exposing their rank hypocrisy, contempt for our lawmaking process, and the fact that they clearly think all of their constituents are stupid enough to not notice?

Just incredible.

215 Maritime/Quint, just today I was discussing this point with some friends - Trump had earlier, explicitly, said that non-cooperation on other major bilateral issues like border security and migration would inevitably affect the NAFTA situation.

Have made some inquiries, asking if this has been put sternly to the Mexican side in the ongoing NAFTA talks, so far no intel.

The only "humanitarian" issue here - and it's an issue, but not a "crisis" - is the mistreatment of illegal migrants as they trek across Guatemala and Mexico. Do-gooder NGOs estimate* that up to 80% of all female migrants are assaulted en route. THIS is an outrage, for which the US bears 0% responsibility, Mexico and a few others being 100% responsible.

Today in his brief immigration remarks at the NFIB speech, Trump rather dramatically - in Trumpian fashion - said Mexico "does nothing" to help on this.

If this is true, Two Scoops, time for the Bilateral Hammer of Zeus** to come down on Mexico.

* "estimates" - exactly numbers are less important than the common sense recognition that these migrants face massive security risks en route

** OK so Thor is the one with the hammer - so what - I think Zeus could have a hammer too, if he wanted, I mean - he's Zeus!

Inspect every truck coming from Mexico. Thoroughly. VERY thoroughly. Take all day to do one. Then check to make sure all of the paperwork is in order. Perfect order.

We Americans stupidly think explicit policies are what's called for, when in fact the better approach is the "sure, we're all board with this, it's just that we need to make sure all the paperwork is in order."

That way you don't have to climb down from an explicit policy. You have the same policy all along - you're either just paying lip service to it, or going along with it in spirit as well. The other side doesn't play ball, you slow walk everything, while denying that there's a change in policy. When they start playing ball, you become more reasonable, but you've never changed your expressed policy.

why would people think he would? If anything he is proving the Dems just want a political cudgel. They might accidentally help people with a policy, but even that is questionable. They are all about winning and tearing down. this is pretty standard stuff.

Because he's a Republican. He went along with Glenn Beck to hand out soccer balls to these poor kids. He's been kind of wishy washy about immigration at times especially H1B Visas.

I do not mind skepticism of our politicians. There's enough data out there to suggest we're still not skeptical enough.

Posted by: Braenyard at June 19, 2018 08:03 PM (3/uST)

IIRC, it has been pegged to the dollar, but then they periodically change the pegging point (so to speak), which neuters the entire idea. Using actual greenbacks as currency obviates the possibility of the Mexicans inflating their currency, because they wouldn't be using their currency. See, e.g., the Euro and Greece.

The problem for them - apart from national pride, which is a biggie - is that they could no longer set their monetary policy (so no "quantitative easing"). Which, of course, is the whole idea that makes it attractive to lenders.

283 58 These people from all these Central American countries that have a GDP of .04% that are sending these kids that equate to $ 35,000 a year of mine and your money, and still get another 100 million in foreign aid assistance.
_____________________

I find it interesting that so many of these "poor" illegal aliens in the U.S. have been able to find the cash to pay smugglers to bring their kids into the U.S.

The price is said to be $6,000 to $8,000 per kid. A study published a few weeks ago showed that about half of American citizen families wouldn't be able to come up with $400 for an emergency, but thousands of illegal aliens living in the U.S. can come up with thousands of dollars in cash for smugglers?

What's wrong with this picture?

We are such unbelievable suckers. No wonder so many people are willing to risk so much to come here and take advantage of us. Our corrupt politicians make it so damn easy for them!

Tens of billions of dollars the IRS pays every year to illegal aliens in "tax credits" (which are just thinly-disguised welfare payments). Tens of billions of dollars every year in food stamps paid to illegal aliens. Tens of billions of dollars every year in Medicare Part D prescription drug benefits paid to illegal aliens. Somalis in Minnesota have been running a scam there, raking in millions of dollars a year with phony "day care" centers that the government pays for.

Rampant fraud and thievery every where you look, and meanwhile U.S. citizens keep working and slogging along and paying taxes like good little serfs, including ever-increasing property taxes so that the local school districts can hire more ESL teachers so that Raul and Julio and all the other little illegals can get their remedial lessons in their native tongue . . . . .

It's maddening. And sickening. And it needs to stop.

296 I agree with Sen. Cruz that these separations happen because the courts don't allow children to be held as long as it takes for asylum claims to be heard. But I have a simpler solution than his:
Simply have the law state that anyone who requests asylum must come in at an official port-of-entry and apply for it there. In other words, if you cross the border somewhere else, you should forfeit any possibility of applying for asylum.
The result would be that these families get treated the same way families who do not apply for asylum are already being treated. Assuming they are first-time entrants and have not committed some more serious crime, they are kept together, tried, sentenced to time served, and deported, all within a day or two of capture.
