The Trump Administration vs. The State Department
Sounds awful, doesn't it? Trump ambassador blocks scrutiny of Israel. But the reality is that the State Department is chock full of careerists who are, and have traditionally been, reflexively opposed to Zionism and the success of the state of Israel. So lumping them in with the savage and backward Arab world is just peachy for them. But the U.S. ambassador would have none of it, and shot down their plan.
“Israel is a democracy whose army does not engage in gross violations of human rights,” Friedman wrote, adding that Israel “has a robust system of investigation and prosecution in the rare circumstance where misconduct occurs.” Besides, he added, “it would be against [U.S.] national interests” to take a step that could limit Israel’s access to military equipment – “especially in a time of war.”Nothing wishy-washy there!

The State Department is basically the UN on US soil. Its almost inevitable that a job that hires diplomats is going to end up being this way. I'm fond of the idea of the department of defense and the department of state being at odds, it makes them sort of a check and balance system. But it swings wildly: in peace State gets too powerful and too much control and in war, Defense gets too big and powerful.

As I recall he wrote that a lot of US diplomats behave as if their job is not to represent our interests to whatever country they deal with, but to represent that country's interests to the US.

I was reading some other piece yesterday about how the "Foreign Policy Establishment" absolutely hates Ambassador Friedman. Jaywalking is not a misdemeanor it's an infraction and only becomes a misdemeanor if you fail to appear in court. And failure to appear in court will get you up to one year in jail.

A federal misdemeanor is very different from a local one. Its not shoplifting, its crimes like domestic abuse, assault or lying to a federal officer, bribing federal employees, bank theft by an examiner, embezzlement of federal training funds, etc. This isn't the same thing at all as speeding or failure to yield.

Gotta love any story about Israel's war crimes that omits what prompted the IDF to respond. Most of us have seen too many stories with a headline of something like, "IDF shoots, kills fleeing Palestinian"- and it turns out he was not fleeing, but charging the IDF shooter after stabbing and killing a few Israeli citizens.
Skepticism is warranted.

Friedman made that point earlier this year, and told people about it, and the DC Establishment all said "How dare you say that! They haven't done it, this is just anti-Palestinian propaganda you're pushing on the part of the Isreali''s, our CIA hasn't confirmed it, why don't you trust American intelligence? You must be a sellout!!!"

There was more than sufficient circumstantial evidence to criminally charge Strozk, Page et al and re-open the Clinton email "matter" butt the putz Horowitz and his crack team of investigators, scratched their balls and vaginas and found nothing criminal, it was all procedural failings.
Basically, we had a locked room, a dead body and a guy holding a bloody knife and Horowitz claiming that he can't charge the guy because no one actually saw him stab the victim.

The IDF Air Force flew Mirages, which were a fine airplane. The Israeli Army had M-48 tanks, and also had up gunned Shermans from WWII. They had a lot of American hardware in the ground IDF.
Jeeps, artillery, etc.
The main reason they flew Mirages was because the French made them a really good deal on buying them, and they were great planes for the Israeli needs at the time. And at that time, the French still had some guilt about the treatment of Jews in France during WWII.
But later, Metropolitan France (French North Africa, etc) and their ME trading partners, gave them a lot of grief about selling aircraft to Israel. So they stopped doing it.
Then Uncle Sugar stepped in and made deals to sell the Israelis A-4 Skyhawks and F-4 Phantoms. This was between the 1967 war and the Yom Kippur war of 1973.
