The pressure seems to be greatest now, though, because they have probably seen the diminishing returns. For a minimum cost outlay (some professional reputations, maybe a few dead protesters if things get ugly), they will give it all they've got for one last go at bending the American Will writ large. If it doesn't stick, if popular perception goes against them, they will slink back into the shadows and devote their resources to some other nonsensical "issue" that's been on the backburner. (Global warming?)
But if they win, things will get.... interesting.

And the few jobs that are available don't pay them enough to support their families or provide for basic needs like medical care, so taxpayers end up paying for them. That's why the majority of "immigrants" we already have here are receiving some form of welfare.
So how many more are we going to accept? We are $20 trillion in debt, our entitlement programs like SS and Medicare are facing insolvency, we have hundreds of trillions more in unfunded liabilities, several of our states are facing bankruptcy (Illinois, California, etc.). About half of American families have less than $400 in savings, and we can't keep the promises we made to our own war veterans, but we can afford to continue to allow tens of thousands of poor third-world illegal aliens to take up residence here, even though the millions that are already living here are costing us hundreds of billions of dollars -- that we don't have -- every year?
