The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

“I held my head high. I am not ashamed. I am not scared. And I will not apologize for defending my right of self defense. Never ever bow a knee. Never bend a knee. Never bow before the outrage mob on any issue. Ever. Know that you are in truth. What you believe is right.” Dana Loesch

Quote II

Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant.” – Robert Louis Stevenson

Quote III

“No man knows how bad he is till he has tried very hard to be good.” C.S. Lewis

Quote IV

I went to a Muslim swingers' party. We all toss our detonators in the ring and swap each other's virgins.

Still, it's striking the way so many chaps who "convert to Islam" mysteriously "radicalize" near simultaneously: you'd almost get the impression it's a two-for-one deal. Mark Steyn

Is the House GOP serious about cleaning up the DOJ? Or is this just another election year ploy-RED MEAT?

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes said Sunday that “there will be hell to pay” — including impeachment for top Justice Department officials — if the agency fails this week to give Congress documents about an FBI informant used to spy on the Trump campaign.

“We can’t force the resignation, but we can hold in contempt, we can pass resolutions, we can impeach. I think we’re getting close to there,” Nunes said of Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein in an interview with Maria Bartiromo on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures.”

Remember John Koskinen?

Afghanistan, what good is it? Too many US armed forces lives have been lost there. Too much money has been spent there.

The $8.6 billion spent was from fiscal years 2002 through 2017. Despite that money, opium production increased 63 percent in just 12 months from fiscal year 2016 to fiscal year 2017. That is enough to produce 900 tons of exportable heroin. The report estimates Afghanistan’s fiscal year 2017 opium output at $4.1 billion to $6.3 billion — as much as a third of the country’s gross domestic product.

The report also indicates that opium cultivation now covers some 1,200 square miles — roughly 20 times the land mass of the District of Columbia. The 590,000 Afghans employed in the industry exceeds the combined size of the country’s army and police force.

Suicide. Why is it becoming trendy?

How to explain the increase?

Well, since this amorphous and constantly expanding thing known as “mental health” is nearly a $200-billion-a-year industry, the “wellness” charlatans were immediately barking about how we don’t do enough about mental health and how it’s a shame that we don’t spend more on mental health, and even though “rates of psychiatric treatment and diagnosis have…greatly increased” and “Treatment for chronic depression and anxiety — often the precursors to suicide — has never been more available and more widespread,” we need to haul in more pills by the trainload because obviously the only problem here is we don’t spend enough money on mental-health treatment.

Please, if you will, pay no mind—or what’s left of your mind after all those antidepressants and painkillers—to the fact that over the same timespan that the suicide rate shot up 30%, the number of Americans sitting around strung-out and placidly drooling on antidepressants nearly tripled.

How does one go about improving the flavor of whiskey? Hot cinnamon, vanilla, Beaver? NH distillery has added beaver flavor to its lineup.h/t ALH

TAMWORTH, N.H. (AP) — Beaver-flavored whiskey, anyone?

A New Hampshire distillery has a new bourbon, Eau De Musc, flavored partly by the secretion from a beaver's castor sacs.

Tamworth Distilling says the secretion, called castoreum, has a history of being used as a flavoring and is on a small list of FDA ingredients called "generally recognized as safe."

The distillery says on its website castoreum "exhibits bright and fruit qualities (raspberry) and rich leathery notes along with creamy vanilla aroma," common among barrel-aged spirits.

Other ingredients are raspberry, Canadian snakeroot, fir needles, birch bark (tar oil and regular oil) and maple syrup.

Until Muskrat makes a strong showing, I'm afraid you're stuck with Beaver Whiskey.

Is James Comey running for POTUS? Or has he always wanted to visit Iowa? Inquiring minds want to know.

Speaking of what were the odds, victim of Nigerian email scam about to recover his lost funds.

A decade ago, Fred Haines was wandering the Wichita airport looking for a Nigerian man hauling two chests full of cash.

After an hour of waiting and asking around, he finally came to the realization that the $65 million Nigerian fortune he thought he was inheriting was not coming after all.

What is now coming, though, is the $110,000 he had been scammed out of, thanks to the work of the Kansas Attorney General's Office.

Three years and three home refinances, brilliant.

Being a Leftie African-American means you can be homophobic.

President Donald Trump’s most fervent supporters clapped back with fury Friday after Hollywood actor Samuel L. Jackson tried to mock the president by posting a “homophobic” joke to Twitter about his birthday celebrations.

“Must have been a party at The White House, Mitch, Paul, Rudy & others were spotted wearing knee pads & carrying these lined up outside. Happy Birthday,” Jackson wrote early Friday morning, hours after the culmination of Trump’s June 14 birthday.

His tweet insinuated to many that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, House Speaker Paul Ryan and the president’s attorney Rudy Giuliani had provided the president with oral sex for his birthday:

Imagine Vince Vaughn tweeting about Nancy Pelosi going down on wining and dining Sheila Jackson-Lee.

It pays to increase your science knowledge. People are getting dumber.

Researchers at Norway’s Ragnar Frisch Centre for Economic Research now have scientific proof of something we’ve long suspsected—we’re all getting dumber.

In their paper, “Flynn effect and its reversal are both environmentally caused,” which was published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Bernt Bratsberg and Ole Rogeberg report that IQ scores have been steadily dropping since the 1970s.

We've heard that the science is settled on global warming. How can that be settled when something less complicated isn't? The Medeiterranean Diet, buh-bye.

In 2013, the New England Journal of Medicine published a landmark study that found that people put on a Mediterranean diet had a 30% lower chance of heart attack, stroke, or death from cardiovascular disease than people on a low-fat diet. It received massive media and public attention when released, and since has been cited by 3,268 other scientific papers. The study had tremendous impact on the field of nutrition and health science.

Yesterday (June 13), however, the journal retracted the study—providing a new reason for skepticism about how effective the now-popular Mediterranean diet really is.

In the larger context, the reality is that this is yet another signal to always read nutrition science with skepticism.

Perhaps he should have chosen an Emotional Support animal. Genius Award Winner.

A 20-year-old Utah man was booked into jail Monday after allegedly having sex with a 14-year-old girl. He told cops that he was her “emotional support friend,” according to the probable cause statement.

This story comes out of the city of Spanish Fork. Utah County jail records obtained by Law&Crime show that Justin Royle Schmidt was released from custody on Tuesday. He faces one count of unlawful sexual activity with a minor, a third-degree felony punishable by up to five years in prison, and a $5,000 fine.

52 Baby Sister Update: Coda

From Caring Bridge by dear friend and Team Joyce Co-Captain Roni:

"My Wednesdays with Joyce

Just a quick share......Joyce and I spent 2-3 days together, each week, after meeting in Ocala, 2.5 years ago. Often, I thought of her as my "kid" sister. We shared so many interests and as others noted, Joyce loved to "play" and be active, and so do I. 1 day we'd ride our horses, 1 or 2 days, our bicycles, and of course, 1 day for shopping.

She traveled with me to Boca Raton to visit with my Mother after Mom broke her hip and became depressed. Immediately, Joyce said to her, Florence, we've got to get you out of that bed and sit outside in the sunshine.Amazingly, my mother did just that, and still has such fond memories of Joyce's visit and always asked about her when we spoke. Joyce also spent an overnight with her cousin, Cheryl, in Boca Raton. The car trip takes 4 hours each way, and we NEVER stopped talking. (or should I say, Joyce never stopped talking- lol). She met my friends, who've always asked about her- she made a big impression on everyone.

It was a year and a half ago that I took a spill on my mountain bike, while riding with my faithful Dirty Divas (Jessica was our fearless leader), and broke 3 bones in my ankle. This changed my life, while also showing me who my friends were. Joyce was always there for me, taking me shopping (wheelchair, crutches, whatever), bringing over dinner (she made some darn delicious and simple chicken dishes).

Joyce was always looking for new activities and interests and jumped in with both feet to the world of estate sales. She'd work at the sales in the Villages, and of course, was excellent at finding great items at great prices. She schlepped me along (broken ankle and all) to see what her excitement was about. This was a great distraction for Joyce and who always loved her independence and having a bit of pocket money. She outfitted their new Villa in The Villages in a most perfect way, and took real pride in this.

Last January, 2017, it was apparent that something was not "right" with Joyce. While I was traveling on my "recovery" cruise, I received a call from Joyce - the message was this..." call me, I have a brain tumor." All of our lives changed at that moment. I have saved that message and dozens more.

Spending the last year and a half with Joyce has been my privilege and I loved every minute of the time we had together. Joyce was the most appreciative person on this earth, and was so thankful for any act of kindness and care and any attention. Actually, many times I'd have to tell her to stop thanking me! Although we spent 2-3 days together each week, Wednesdays were our "dedicated" day together. My phone calendar still alerts me every Wednesday, with her name. Joyce. I don't want that to change.

And the friends I've made through knowing Joyce. I LOVE her friends. I loved having 2 sets of Minnesota friends staying with me as we "partied hardy" with Joyce. And meeting others as they came to visit Joyce in Ocala. And chatting on line and sharing stories. No topic off the table. Joyce surely knew how to pick her friends.

Let's all keep her in our thoughts...she made such a big impression on so many of us. I love to see everyone's stories and be reminded of the "Joy" that was inherent in Joyce."

If it's okay with The Horde, I'll continue to share these as they are posted at Caring Bridge.

I actually have a question about this. If a man who is "trans" finished the job and "became a woman" and then offs himself (as happens with distressing regularity), how does that go on the statistical books? I don't think there are enough trans people to skew the numbers either way, but I am curious as to whether that would count as a male or female suicide.

My favorite on 'the list' is decocaineized coca leaves. As is now well known, it's one of the secret ingredients in vault kept Coke recipe. Since the original formula used the original, cocaine bearing, coca leaves until toot was outlawed, well...

I wonder if they are still in the current formula.

You do know that your forthcoming book: Joyce's Journey, will be a runaway bestseller on both the NYT and Amazon lists, right?

Bet a COB would help you retrieve every single Joyce entry over the Miracle Year, as well as gleaning all of the comments for Joyce-centric content.

Just assemble it all in good chronological order, apply editing and excising where needed, add your own "after the fact" commentary, introductions to various contributors, writers, participants, and add all of your favorite photos.

I'll buy a signed First Edition, I promise you this.

146 Cow Girl.

I have saved a picture I found on the 'net; don't remember where, and would like to know the backstory.

The girl is dressed up in western garb. There is a Brahman Cow Calf 'bedded down', meaning laying down the way they do, calmly chewing her cud. The calf is wearing a halter lead rope that's tied to a fence, and the cowgirl is sitting on the ground next to her calf, (that she is obviously showing in a competition of some kind) and the girl is resting her back against the side of the calf. I just love that picture. I have cousins (twin boys) who were 4-H kids and took cows to the county fair. They stay in the barn with the animals, and I got to spend a couple of days with them. It was great.

155 Lots of content there in that post above.

I read the suicide one, and it was rather shallow and missed a number of salient points.

I'll point out just a few.

- War Vets are committing suicide at the rate of 22 a day. I do not believe a job or gf is all they need. I also do not think they are cowards. PTSD and depression are real conditions.

- There is still no cure or magic bullet to treat depression and anxiety. SSRIs only arrived here in the last few decades and are not 100% effective for all people. In some people they may alleviate symptoms by 20%... not enough. The look for effective treatment for PTSD and depression is ongoing. There is no cure. It's very complex.

We have no full proof treatment for cancer either. Sometimes what we have works, sometimes it does not. We are still looking for better treatments. This field is light years ahead in understanding and searching for cures. Much less is known about the brain, and much less has been spent in looking for cures. In fact, I think SSRIs were used in Europe before making their way here.

- Social Media has had a negative effect on people. Colleges have seen anxiety explode with the advent of social media. More and more studies are now being done proving time and again how it is leading to depression and anxiety in children & adults. There is so much we don't know, and are only just learning. I truly believe this has added to depression and anxiety rates. I believe future studies will bear this out.

That is all.

160 My thoughts on an increase in suicides.

The left and the media have fostered insanity. No leftist, for instance, can respond rationally to a president from the other party. It has to be over the top, scream at the sky insanity. And they have, with that, encouraged despair.
And they have, with that, essentially eliminated the concept of insanity. Nobody is mentally ill anymore, except conservatives. So nobody, including the clearly mentally ill needs to get help.

I blame everything on the loony left.

167 Every time I see a story about Opium in Afghanistan, it pisses me off because there was such an obvious way to deal with it, but it required some "outside the box" thinking and no one could take the responsibility for it.

Afghanistan is a poor place with mostly crappy soil, and limited water. Not much grows there, nothing of value, EXCEPT - poppies. So the people on the land are gonna grow poppies, it's their best option. All the US Govm't needed to do was to become the Purchaser of First Resort. Buy the entire poppy crop each year, at a good price, enough to satisfy the farmers. (the cartels never paid them much, either) Then either sell the produce to drug companies to process into morphine, or dump it into the ocean. Either way would have shut down the cartels, shut down the heroin markets, and supported the indigenous farmers at far less cost than we spent trying to stamp everything out with a heavy hand.

but noooooooo, that required too much thinking to carry out anything that sensible.

174 I really don't want to get started on the "anti-depressants cause suicide" thing, but y'all know what I've had to drag Pooky through (literally, sometimes). Anti-depressants help when coupled with therapy. It also helps if your bosses believe you that you're having problems and don't try to FRAME YOU FOR A FELONY. Right now, the anti-depressant helps keep Pooky on an even keel while his therapists try to help him deal with the PTSD/bipolar/insomnia caused by sleep apnea issues.

181 Posted by: Northernlurker, but call me Teem at June 18, 2018 10:38 PM (nBr1j)

simpler concept.

The Human mind is a pattern recognition device.

It sees patterns... in everything... words that we read, faces we see, the environment, and society.

But it also recognizes things which are not correct in the pattern. Its a survival mechanism... to notice when the pattern is not right (ie, that Tiger over there in the bushes), which puts us into a heightened state, and can lead to a fight or flight decision.

The Left is forcing an unnatural society upon us. Our brains RECOGNIZE the pattern is wrong, but we don't want to admit it. This leads to anxiety, and a feeling that things are not right... but we don't want to recognize the REAL cause.

Because its not PC to do so.

I don't know what state you are in, but in some states it is next to impossible to get SSDI benefits first time around. You basically have to get a disability lawyer. They will take you on for free, and then take a one time percentage of the benefits as a fee if you are successful. Each state is different. Thought I'd mention it, jic.

I was walking my dog past his cottage and out of nowhere I hear "Are you going to clean up after him!!???" from some gray-haired dickweed behind the house. (The dog hadn't pooped or pissed anywhere near his yard, she has spots that she prefers, and we always pick up). I stop, the guy comes around, very belligerent, and growls, "do you even have a plastic bag". I replied " Who are you?", he responded "I own this property" referring to the yard I was walking past. I said "Good for you, she's not on your property, and I always pick up after my dog". He then, I think, recognized that I was from the same extended family as him, and muttered "Okay, then", and pretended to be busy with something. I got home and asked my mother who lived in Uncle Henry's (long deceased) old house, and she was like, "Oh, that's my cousin Jim, did he say Hi?". I said "Your cousin Jim is a dick, and if he gives me any more lip when I'm walking Jane, I'll pound the shit out of him". She nodded cautiously, and about a half-hour later, Cousin Jim walked up past our cottage and, without stopping or saying anything, gave me a small wave and an almost apologetic grimace, like he realized he had been an asshole earlier. I'm here for 2 more days, I'd like to think all issues re beyond us, but the dude is an idiot. Picking a fight with a guy half your age, walking a fucking Mastiff, he's lucky he didn't get mauled. Dogs mostly don't deal by "commands". You have to "nudge" the dog and claim its territory. Then you have to make sure that it is respectful while doing so.

The "follow-through" is getting the dog to lay down in front of you, showing its submission and calmness.

states it is next to impossible to get SSDI benefits first time around.
You basically have to get a disability lawyer. They will take you on

if you are successful. Each state is different. Thought I'd mention
it, jic.

The disability lawyer (one of the best in the state) we called told us because Pooky did "the right thing" and took a job immediately out of the AF, SSDI views him as capable. I guess we were supposed to live off our savings (after the base housing ripped us off by $1K) and the VA disability that eventually came in while residing with family, since I can't have a paying job because my primary occupation is keeping Pooky alive. But he's still walking and talking, so he can't actually be "disabled," right? /eyeroll

308 Hey Blanco!

How are you doing?

Posted by: SMH - Get right or get left at June 18, 2018 11:13 PM (9KR27)

309 Very strange ending to a little vacation.

DH, the boy and I were headed up toward SEATAC from my sister's place in Olympia, every so slowly, to catch a flight home. We stopped off at Point Defiance Zoo in Tacoma. The boy and I were watching the puffins because, well, puffins, and DH wandered off with my sister to some other venue.

A "man" and his about 5 year old son were using one of those tacky back scratchers and sticking it in the puffin pond, trying to whack one of the birds. I told him he should stop doing that, and the first word out of his mouth was the F-word. So, naturally, I told him to stop using foul language around kids. It was Father's Day at the zoo, for heaven's sake.

Next thing he is in my face, spitting at me, telling me to "call somebody who cares" and that I can't f-ing tell him what to do and then calling me some very interesting names. So, I tell him to back up, and that's when he spit a huge glob of beer-smelling crud all over my face and my chest, and then he pushed me down on the concrete abutment.

Next thing I knew, he was being escorted out the door of the display by two fine gentlemen who proceeded to pin him against the wall by his skinny little neck.

Tacoma is very close to Ft. Lewis/McChord AFB, and I suspect both men were rather well trained in restraining miscreants. Thank God for the US Military.

Meanwhile, the boy yelled that if he touched his mom again he would kill him and then he ran off to get DH, who moved like the wind when he heard.

The men let the jackass down off the wall, and the jerk proceeded to pull out his phone to photograph them and yelled that he was pressing charges for assault.

Whereupon, both men did their best muscle pose and told him to get a good photo.

Then the pissant went to the entrance to the zoo and called the cops. Not too smart this little fellow.

The only reason he wasn't arrested was because he had his son with him. No reason to punish the kid for the crap his father pulled. The officer assured me that he would be arrested the following day and charged. Lots of witnesses gave statements.

The moral of this long story is that America is not dead, nor is chivalry, nor are we lost in a quagmire of nancy-boys. As much as my arm hurts today, I am so very thankful for the real men we grow in this great country.

Teachers generally are liberal and belong to a Union because they want to. (yes, yes. Some don't. Most DO.)

One of the reasons why sometimes I wonder if things would be better if women didn't have the vote.

Sorry, but just too many times they've tipped the scales and it's always been (imo) for the worst. Because of FEELZ and/or the looks of the candidate.

We now have a wussified country that probably would have a difficult time if Canada decides to get it on.

370 In the early days teachers joined the union because judges began to allow frivilous lawsuits against teachers and school board administrations would not (backup) financially support the teachers in defense.

They could not afford to defend themselves.
The unions stepped in and filled the gap.
Whether they supported the concept of a union it became a necessary evil.

One of the beginnings of the devaluation of the traditionally esteemed and respected teacher.

From a distance you could see something dark on her chest. I thought it must be some large witch jewelry. Nope, big, dark, ugly tattoo right between and above her boobs. The sad thing was, the dress would have looked very nice without that huge splotch above it.

412 I find one of the best ways to convince or persuade someone of something face to face is to start by agreeing with them. Then make small moves toward your perspective. I think it's called "pacing and leading".

"OMG yeah we are totally destroying the environment. I'm sure the earth is probably warming up, and man has something to do with it, too. The deniers are totally fucking crazy. Fuckin' Trump.

Then again, how do you accurately take the temperature of an entire planet? So many factors. I don't know if I trust the government to tell the truth about these things anyway. If the planet was cooling instead of warming, think of all the dangers to the economy, which relies at least partly on optimism about the future. What if all these natural disasters had some other cause and the government knew. Would the 1% on Wall Street or the leaders of the military-industrial complex allow their puppets in government to even tell us the truth...?

The government "funds" a lot of these studies, don't they? You can't trust the rich to tell us the truth about anything. Look at the food pyramid. For years they were instructing everyone to load up on carbs every day. They only changed it recently. It's all Monsanto with this corn stuff. Totally fucked up, right? They're probably lying to us, man. Maybe the deniers aren't totally fucked after all. Who even knows, right? Want another beer?"

Old Joke.
A rather overweight middle-aged woman is consulting with her doctor on how to lose weight. The Doctor says, 'I have just what you need.'

He leaves the examination room and quickly returns with a large bottle of tiny pills. The woman asks, "How many do I take?" with some surprise in her voice.

'Oh,' says her Doctor, 'you don't ingest them. You dump the bottle out on the floor, and then pick up all the little pills.'

(Not intending to suggest anyone here is overweight, other than me. For exercise, I sometimes lay down and the floor, and then try to get up without assistance. I don't want to be in that situation where I don't have life alert, can't reach my 'phone, and have fallen and can't get up.)

440 I understand your position well, SMH. My wife and I had been married for a number of years, and tensions and problems build, on both sides. Neither of us wanted the expense and publicity of a divorce, so we decided to stay married, but live in different cities for 3 1/2 years, and only see each other about once a month. Yeah, I guess that is kind of a weird solution. At the time, it suited both of us.

After that we both realized that we still liked each other more than either of us liked anyone else, and were ready to move back in together, the old problems having faded. And it's worked ever since.

459 I mentioned this on a previous thread: PDT sent a 10/08/17 letter to to congress re: immediate necessary changes to immigration laws. Part 'B' of that letter discussed the problem of accompanied and unaccompanied children. It is noted that 9 months later nothing has been done.

The 'Julius Caesar' speech by Anthony (noted above) reminded me of one of my all-time favorite Shakespeare speeches - again by Anthony: the "friends , Romans, countrymen" funeral speech. He refers to Brutus et al as 'honorable men'.

"So are they all - all honorable men"

The brouhaha over alien kids and that 10/08/17 letter brings special poignancy to the lines.

There have always been idiots in power in the Catholic Church. Just as there have always been idiots in every walk of life.

If you listen to your Bishop concerning politics, you are also a fool, because when the issue is politics, the Bishop is just another guy.

The only issues about which they can claim authority are those of the spiritual realm, meaning that they can say not to vote for someone because that someone is going to publicly fun abortions, or some such.

On immigration, the only issue is that we treat people as people. I believe that is covered under the heading of asylum. Canon Law states that the State (i.e. political entity) has the right to defend its borders. Any Bishop that disagrees with Trump's stance on this issue is off the reservation.

Canon Law states that a political entity, i.e. the State, has every right to enforce national borders.

The only issue is that we treat people like people, which means that our asylum laws work just fine. People are still people if they stay in their own country, barring genocide.

Any Bishop who disagrees with Trump and the rule of law needs to go live in the Congo.

509 The Mediterranean Diet recommendations debunked based on methodology. Hmmm...that only took...a decade? Not sure really. Still, way faster than our govt. and the food pyramid mess, as well as, low-fat lies.
-------------------------------------

I read something about that debunking, and it's on rather technical grounds, not really related to the diet itself.

The Spanish people who participated in the study lived in rural Spain, and each week they were required to go somewhere and pick up that week's supply of the special olive oil they were using in the study.

Because it was a hardship to go get the olive oil, the only way they could get people to participate was if they used family members from households that had already agreed to participate. I'm not sure that makes the entire study invalid, all things considered.

Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at June 19, 2018 12:53 AM (WFV7d)

There have always been idiots in power in the Catholic Church. Just as there have always been idiots in every walk of life.

Canon Law states that a political entity, i.e. the State, has every right to enforce national borders.

The only issues about which they can claim authority are those of the spiritual realm, meaning that they can say not to vote for someone because that someone is going to publicly fun abortions, or some such.

On immigration, the only issue is that we treat people as people. If they are subject to genocide, they can and should seek asylum. Coming here illegally is not the answer.

Any Bishop that disagrees with Trump's stance on this issue is off the reservation, and needs to go live in the Congo for a while.

With the exception of well-wishes from my brother and dad, the news of my impending nuptials went over about as well as a wet fart with mom, sis, and eldest daughter. For reason that are not said, they do not like my husband, and in my mom's case, it's a 30 year hate-on.

I've forgiven them, and only God can turn their heart from stone to flesh.

In the meantime, my youngest daughter gave me away Saturday, with the g-babies dumping day lilies all over the place.

They let you come out to play? That was nice of them

Posted by: Misanthropic Humanitarian at June 18, 2018 11:47 PM (3Pma+)

It was.

The last few nights have been the first time in almost 9 months that I've been able to play on the ONT. It has been the year from Hell. My In laws have been an even larger time sink than ever before.

Brother in law has been in and out of work, without transportation, in and out of different living arrangements, and in and out of jail. Next month, he goes on trial for felony drug possession. We now have his dog because he can't take care of it, and we have obstacles all over the house so that the cats have a safe place since he chases them whenever he sees one.

Father in law has been in and out of the hospital and rehab since around Christmas. In February he was given 6 months to live with end stage COPD. The wife has been driving her mother over to see him at rehab every day after work and on the weekends since the MIL can't drive. He is at home now, has only been back to the hospital once since getting out of rehab for the 2nd time this year.

Mother in law is an alcoholic control freak. She thinks that she has cancer, the doctors have told her she doesn't. She is on seizure medication that she should not be mixing with alcohol, but she does. She will not let in-home care into the house for the FIL, and Adult Protective Services keeps visiting the home, but won't do anything but "open files". She thinks my wife put them up to it, so she has cut off all communication between my wife and her dying father. She even threatened to have her arrested if she comes over. She won't let him talk on the phone, and they don't even answer the phone at all. The only reason that he went to the hospital in the first place in December is because my wife kept trying to call them, and their phones were disconnected because they hadn't paid their bills.

So, since last fall, my wife has pretty much been going non-stop trying to help her family while I've been trying to hold down the fort. During that time, she left for work at 6:30am, worked til 4pm, went and picked her mom up to visit her dad, then came home around 10pm and fell asleep. That was our life, with the breaks to go take her brother to work, pick him up from work, move him to wherever he was moving to, and then taking him the VA for his medical needs. Oh, and the idiot always needed $20 whenever you saw him.

So, after having the police come by our house several times in the last week looking for him, we don't hear from him any more. It was really nice of him to tell the courts, police and bail bondsmen that he was living with us, since now we have them calling us and stopping by looking for him even though he never lived here and never will.

So, now I have a wife that his heartbroken that her family has basically given her a huge middle finger because she was helping them.

So, that has been my last year, and it feels so good to get to come out and play again.

Nah, confine the real OMFG stuff to the real pilots.

The blown tire on the Concorde wasn't really the problem. The pierced fuel tank, fire and resulting burn-through of all the control systems on that wing, was.

Likewise, the DC-10 dropping the engine wasn't by itself, fatal.... but doing so in the low "coffin corner" of barely takeoff speed, asymmetric thrust and drag and lack of altitude to work with...well, now we're plowing up parking lots at 145 knots IAS.

But I'll betcha this... the average Cessna VFR pilot would be THRILLED to hand over the dollars, just to SIMPLY try a bluebird clear day, no emergencies approach, in a large airliner "cockpit", just to see what it'd be like to TRY.

And so would many a 14 y/o airplane addled kid, with very large imaginations.

Hell, I'd go so far as to want to try an A-4 Skyhawk carrier approach.

In the simulator, that is.

You know, something I might actually LIVE THROUGH?

As somebody once said, they would stop doing these things if people stopped falling for them.

If you look at the countries where they do it, and the amount of money they can get in the scam, if that call center gets 2 an hour, it's profitable.

You'll also need to send me your equipment nomenclature, and essentials such as runway minimums, ATC and FBO requirements, etc.

582 Remember the Antifa riots in Berkeley back in 2017?

At one of the rallies, several firefighters and police officers personally witnessed at close range a mob of Antifa rioters violently attack a guy who was just sitting on a wall; the attackers would have killed the dude if the cops hadn't interrupted the attack and arrested a few of them.

Well, just a few hours ago, after an outrageous trial filled with the most insane and illegal behavior by courtroom attendees AND by the judge, who allowed an endless series of mistrail-worthy courtroom incidents every single day, the jury just found all the Antifa attackers NOT GUILTY -- mainly because the victim was a Trump voter, thus a Bad Man, and thus deserving of getting beaten to within an inch of his life.

Read it and weep:

http://www.berkeleyside.com/2018/06/18/ jury-deliberates-over-alleged-berkeley-protest-attack-of-trump-supporter

The article is immensely long, but it describes perhaps the most mind-bogglingly unfair kangaroo court trial ever enacted on United States soil. Even the freakin' PROSECUTOR (whose job it supposedly was to convict the Antifa attackers) described the victim as "repulsive" and "dislikable" based entirely on the lies spread by BAMN and Antifa that the victim was a "Nazi" solely because he attended rally -- a self-defining circular argument which the prosecutor just blithely accepted and repeated, despite there being evidence for it (and despite it being an irrelevant detail, were it true, which it wasn't).

Meanwhile the judge allowed Antifa and BAMN to pack every seat in the courtroom every day, where they constantly booed, and hissed and held up banners and interrupted witnesses, etc. The entire trail was a circus -- and he never once stopped it or threatened a mistrial! Completely insane. Antifa members even stalked the jurors and yelled threats and lies at them during the trial! Mind-boggling.

Anyway, read the whole article for the details. Steam will come out of your ears.

This is "justice" in a liberal paradise.

If I recall, all of the college entrance tests have been renormed
numerous times since the early 1970's, because in order to keep the

Now the test makers are redoing the tests themselves, and making them easier. And All Left All The Time.

Back when the SAT started, it was one of the ways that colleges weeded out students that they felt wouldn't be able to hack it.

Flash forward to Bill Clinton's desire for everyone to go to college and you get the explosion of college enrollment. The SAT no longer was needed as a disqualifier, but it was in place and was used as a measurable. So, they needed to keep it, and the colleges wanted to make sure that it looked like they weren't lowering their standards from 30-50 years ago, so they adjusted to scoring so that a college that averaged 1050 for the incoming class in 1975 is still averaging 1050 for the class of 2020.

Kind of fun to guess exactly which words are censored, instead of cutting it, they bleep the sound. So lip reading is possible. I've had to rewind the DVR a couple of times, but have figured out all of them.

Same here.

It's funny, though. I watched the movie 'Django Unchained'. It has pretty much the same language as Blazing Saddles, but with more actual violence as it's a Quentin Tarantino flick. So I guess being a 'serious' film is good, no matter the language, as opposed to a comedy poking fun at everyone using the same language, because that's bad thought-think.

677 I'm been a little bit of a mess lately...

getting over my bout of poison ivy, which it seems to be going away. It's still there, but the itching is gone, and it seems to be fading.

But, then I woke up with a stiff neck and a sore throat. Used a heating pad, and the neck is mostly better. Sucked on throat lozenges, and the throat is mostly better as well.

But now, I either have allergies or hay fever or something, because I now have the sniffles, and ear hurt pretty bad last night, seems a bit better this morning...and throat while not hurting as bad, feels very tight and froggy. So, popped some Claritin last night, which did provide some relief, but you can only take 1 pill every 24 hours.

Then, woke up this morning, and I couldn't put any weight on my knee. I jiggled it around and popped it and I seem to be okay now but....man.

As long as I get this all out of my system before next week.

727 Suicide. Why is it becoming trendy?

Get used to it.
As fewer people die of cancer in their 60s and heart attacks in their 50s and car accidents in their 40s and AIDS in their 30s and gang violence and war and terrorism in their 20s and diptheria and tuberculosis and smallpox and fill in the blank in their teens and younger, more people will have the opportunity for suicide.
Lifespans are getting longer, but all those years are on the back end, and frustration comes from boredom and tiredness as it does from really-mental-not-mopey mental health in our youth-oriented godless culture....

728 155 Lots of content there in that post above.

I read the suicide one, and it was rather shallow and missed a number of salient points.

- War Vets are committing suicide at the rate of 22 a day. I do not believe a job or gf is all they need. I also do not think they are cowards. PTSD and depression are real conditions.
Posted by: platypus, gg channel at June 18, 2018 10:36 PM (V6Xrh)

Interestingly, deployed combat veterans are suiciding less than undeployed regularly enlisted veterans.

"More puzzling is the suicide rate for veterans who never went to Afghanistan or Iraq. It was 16% higher than for those who did."

One may surmise that battle hardiness actually lends itself to personal perspective or appreciation or battlefield fatalities thin the pool.
