The Fall of the House of Mouse: "The Last Jedi" DVDs and Blu-Rays Selling Poorly;
Marvel Movies Beyond Avengers 4 May Feature the Despised SJW "Replacement Characters" That Nearly Killed Marvel Comics

Most of the below links are to videos, not articles. You may want to skip the links if you're at work.

First: Disney's publicity machine got a new recruit in its war on (former) Star Wars fans: Steven Colbert decided to attack them as racist, sexist manbabies.

Everything to protect his Khalisi Kathleen Kennedy.

As I think Jeremy of Geeks + Gamers pointed out, Disney does not want The Narrative to be about its huge and embarrassing failure, so it has decided to deploy the Obama "Stray Voltage" technique of putting out a hyperpoliticized competing story that will dominate the headlines instead of headlines about their failure.

"Stray Voltage" was Obama's cynical media strategy: when a story was so bad and big that it couldn't be spun in your favor, just create a partisan political food-fight for people to argue about. The idea is that its better to have people talking about a partisan political fight, which neither hurts you nor helps you, rather than have them talking about a disaster which definitely hurts you.

The Stray Voltage story they've decided on is that Solo and The Last Jedi only failed because Star Wars fans are all racist, sexist manbabies who are also alt-right Nazis.

He noted (I think) that during Gamergate, there was a coordinated campaign among left-wing games "reporters" to declare, on the same day and employing the same language and arguments, that "Gamers are Dead" and that videogame companies should no longer cater to gamers.

Yeah, that makes no sense. Gamers are obviously going to be at least 50% of your clientele; Filthy Casuals will make up the rest.

The argument seemed to be that gamers, being dead and all, and also being racist, sexist manbabies, should be abandoned as core audience sector in favor of just trying to sell games to Filthy Casuals.

And now, Jeremy (I think it was him) reports a bunch of the Star Wars Shill Media all making the argument that Star Wars should no longer attempt to appeal to Star Wars fans, but instead should just appeal to non-Star Wars fans, new viewers, casual fans.

I hope actual Star Wars fans are paying attention, and I hope they're making the deduction that the Star Wars Shill Media jumps when Disney says "jump," and there is good reason to think this bullshit comes from Disney Propaganda Central.

Jeremy also compares the first week DVD/Blu-Ray sales of The Force Awakens to The Last Jedi. The Last Jedi only sold 56% of the DVDs/Blu-Rays The Force Awakens during its first week, 3,420,000 for TFA vs. 1,940,000 (rounded to the nearest thousand). That's $40,000,000 in lost revenue for first-week sales, comparing the two films.

This seems to indicate that people who saw The Last Jedi didn't like it very much, or at least didn't like it enough to feel they needed to pick up the DVD/Blu-Ray. Jeremy notes that a DVD/Blu-Ray sale indicates a positive vote for a movie, whereas a refusal to buy it indicates a negative vote.

He also says that Disney had hidden these numbers until now, even though The Last Jedi DVDs/Blu-Rays begun being sold in March.

In another video, I think Jeremy also pointed out that The Last Jedi had a whopping 69% drop from its first weekend of theatrical release to its second, indicating that when word of mouth got out, people became a lot less excited to see the movie. Grace Randolph talked about that huge drop at the time, citing "bad word of mouth" as a factor.

So Disney, which is the most evil of the big media corporations, seems to have damaged the franchise it paid $4.05 billion for.

But what about Marvel Studios? Disney spent $4.24 billion for that.

So far, of course, Marvel Studios has been very, very profitable. Kevin Feige has been a very cool hand at the wheel, unlike Kathleen Kennedy at LucasFilm.

But there's a problem coming for Marvel Studios: It has run out of even B and C list characters to exploit, and as its current actors become too expensive, too old, or no longer interested in doing these movies, it will either have to recast them or replace them.

Recasting them may work. Bruce Banner has been played by three different actors and no one seems to care. Peter Parker too.

But some actors seem irreplaceable, like Robert Downey, Jr.

And the problem is, Kevin Feige doesn't seem to be talking about recasting the major players.

Instead, he seems to be talking about what Marvel Comics did, and replacing the characters with race-and-gender-swapped new characters who just wear the same costume as the old, beloved characters, but who have no purchase in the public imagination.

It has been suspected by some that the whole SJW Replacement of iconic Marvel Comics characters was done at the request of Disney/Marvel Studios, anticipating the exit of Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, etc., and wanting substitute characters established ahead of time to replace them with, ready to go the moment the current actors' contracts expired.

In this video, Yellow Flash looks at Feige's answers at a Producers Guild conference and thinks his answers, while not definitive, indicate that Feige intends the Replacement Character route (or is being ordered to go down this path by SJW Disney).

"Different incarnations of the characters you know/Introducing completely new characters you've never heard of before (unless you're a comics fan)" sure seems to indicate that they'll be replacing Captain America with the Falcon (which wouldn't be that bad), Iron Man with "Ironheart" (a teenaged black girl), the Hulk with so-called "Bro Hulk" (an Asian guy who is totally awesome, dude!), Thor with Lady Thor, etc.

He could mean digging down to the absolute D-list as well -- I mean, they're pushing the happy-to-make-the-D-list Captain Marvel as their new leader of the Avengers -- and pushing nobodies like Nova and Adam Warlock.

Or Man-Thing. Or Werewolf By Night. Or Son of Satan.

I guess they could reboot Blade and Ghost Rider but... eh.

We've seen all that already.

But even though Ant-Man was very good, it didn't make a lot of money (for Marvel). Ant-Man just isn't a well-known character, and his powers are goofy (which is what made the movie fun, it turns out). Dr. Strange didn't make a lot of money either (again, for Marvel).

I think there is a limit to how far down Marvel can go down into its D- and F-lists before its movies become only semi-profitable, or until they have a Solo-like disaster.

Some people might say, "But they might get back the X-Men and Fantastic Four!"

Well, first of all, that might not happen. Comcast is ready to enter a bidding war for Fox, offering an all-cash bid, and the rights to those characters might wind up remaining out of Disney's reach.

And besides that: The last few X-Men movies have been lame. The upcoming one, about the Dark Phoenix (again!!!), is rumored to be a troubled film needing a lot of reshoots and script tweaking.

Are people really dying to see more X-Men movies after so many duds? Do we need a new Wolverine pining hopelessly after a new Jean Gray?

How many times can we see the same characters in the same situations?

And hasn't the X-Men franchise itself has run out of A-listers to exploit? True, we haven't seen much of Gambit or Nightcrawler, nor Rogue with her full power-set, but whether they're really "A-list" is open for debate, and besides, we have seen them. Just not much of them.

As for the Fantastic Four: There have been three Fantastic Four movies and none of them have been box office champs. One of them, the most recent, was a disaster. Even assuming Marvel Studios can do a better job handling its founding family-- do people really care to sit through a third reboot and, assumedly, third origin story and third Doctor Doom plot?

Anyway, Disney may be facing tougher times ahead, and I couldn't be happier about that.

When all this is over, I'd like Disney to stand as a cautionary tale about injecting SJW politics into movies, TV shows, childrens' cartoons, and sports coverage.

When you position yourself as a de facto political organization, you should be treated as such.

PS: Captain Marvel seems like it just might be a Social Justice Warrior bonanza. I have high hopes that it will be the first Solo-like dud of the MCU.

And since the people in charge usually have "fuck you" money, they are perfectly fine taking their woke new IP right off a cliff into bankruptcy.

But I've said for a while conservatives should be constantly pushing piracy if they want to win the Hollywood culture war and really hit these media companies hard.

17 Honestly I've been waiting for the Marvel Cinematic guys to crap on their product. So far they've done a pretty decent job of keeping the classic feel of the characters, even if they are "Ultimate Universe" versions of their stories. No Nazi Cap, for instance.

But these are the same guys who wrecked marvel comics before this SJW wave took root. They are the ones who started hiring the SJW authors and "artists." They are the ones who seem to despise the old characters and stories, who do not really like superheroes as heroes, and think the whole costume and code name system is infantile and unsophisticated.

Basically, everything that makes comics, comics.

So I've been waiting for them to start imposing their ideology and viewpoint more and more than just having few characters actually wear a costume and almost never refer to them by their super hero name (or even openly mock it like Spider-Man does in Civil War).

Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at June 12, 2018 04:04 PM (39g3+)

When will these idiots figure out that it is the STORY that makes these comic book characters (and movies) interesting, good and successful. It is NOT the race, gender (only two of them!), or sexual proclivity of the characters.

30 I know I'm repeating myself in these threads, but I honestly haven't heard this picked up elsewhere. Kevin Feigie, the genius producer at Marvel Cinema sensed this was coming. That's why he created an artificial "ending" to his era in the form of the back to back Infinity War and Avengers 4. He wanted to lock in his master legacy before the SJWs moved in and claimed their skin suit. The guy very, very clever and he has created a sort of golden era of films we can watch over and over.

41 They kind of have to recast the characters, I mean Robert Downey jr is in his 50s. Chris Evans isn't getting any younger. You can't keep doing the same sort of action character stuff forever unless you want to do the patented Liam Neeson "15 takes to climb a fence" shot every time.

So yeah, it was inevitable that these guys retire. Some of them are still fairly young like Chris Hemsworth but how long will he play Thor? Before Thor 3: the cartoon he already wanted to retire the character.

Now, obviously with James Bond its been proven you can replace the actor with someone who even is significantly different looking and get away with it, so that's always an option. Its kind of like having a new artist take over the comic. But that does not seem to be the approach Feige and the rest want to take.

My guess is we're going to see Squirrel Girl and Ms Muslim Marvel and that kind of thing, none of whom have the historical cachet or the great character design that the original Marvel characters had.

55 I think the SJW stuff is somewhat overblown. Yeah, it's bad for business and insulting half your audience is always a bad idea.

However, in the end, what do all of the super hero movies have in common? They all contain heroes with marvelous powers who manage to overcome the evil genius and, in the process, destroy half of the city.

I think the whole super hero/super villain concept has run its course. Beyond a certain point, it's time for studios to actually get creative and go another direction.

everything points back to the fact that Hollywood has not only run out of ideas, they've run out of the will to actually be, shudder, creative and create movies people want to see.

80 Funny part? It wasn't that bad. Arguably just as good as the recent ones, and helped because the actors were nobodies and actually trying to act for the role and not just cash the paycheck because of their name.

I dunno, I kind of detested it. Over half the movie eaten up in meandering origin story, constant Idiot Plot and evil deus ex machina, ever-present darkness, an antagonism plot that made no sense, and more similarity to Val Kilmer's Red Planet than a superhero movie - in a bad way.

Marvel has done pretty well with that so far, and when its been meh filmmaking, they've managed to turn it into a social awareness cultural event (Black Panther).

How long they pull this off remains to be seen but I have a sinking feeling that Captain Marvel is going to be Soy Justice Warrior time. They mostly managed to avoid that with Black Panther but I could feel them straining at the leash.

I am confused. Per this, TLJ sold 1,480,000 fewer units than TFA (3,420,000-1,940,000). This represented, per the above, a $40,000,000 revenue difference after rounding.

That means that Disney's revenue is around $27 per *unit* sold:
40,000,000/1,480,000=27.027

This doesn't seem right. If I go over to Amazon, the *most* I can spend on TLJ (4k with all the extras) is $23. Sales being off that much between episodes is surely a disaster given how much long-term revenue is tied up in home video sales, but $40 million doesn't seem reasonable.

Am I misinterpreting this?

A friend of mine just returned from a visit. $3k or so with his two kids. Said it was the worst vacation he'd ever been on. Hour waits for rides, lines for the princess photos, etc.

He told me it occurred to him that the big reason patents are taking their kids is because their parents took them because their parents took them.

I told him to start noticing how much Disney advertises on what you think are just TV shows. America's funniest videos is the absolute worst.

I haven't had a chance to watch the Captain Marvel video yet, but if that turns out to be true, it would follow Spiderman and Black Panther down the SJW trail, meaning I'm done with the MCU after Avengers 4.

Which would be my two favorite franchises, SW and MCU, killed within about a year. More time to go outside I guess.

I hear The Shadow is ready for an MCU type roll out.

I liked The Shadow movie, but their big mistake was putting him up against his arch enemy right away. Nobody knows who the Shadow is, you don't throw him up against someone who beats him up until you establish who he is and what he can do.

I mean, the first criminal he goes up against figures out where he is and shoots him. Really??

Not a superhero, but Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a big thing for girls when it was on tv. These studios seem to have skipped the "write an interesting story with complex characters" part and just decided: Mary Sue = Grrrl Power!!

I would still argue that's the exception and not the rule.

Just like there are definitely hard core sports fans that are chicks, but it tends to be overwhelmingly male.

And the movie studios strategy to this known dynamic is then to piss off as many "natural" fans as possible in order to chase these unicorns.

275 This post is about Disney -- the most left-leaning and powerful media corporation in the world -- possibly facing a reckoning.

Thing about Disney is that it is like the Hydra (no, not the one in the MCU). By my quick count they have Star Wars, Marvel, at least one of the computer animation studios, all their classic characters, classic movies in their vault, TV, several destination worthy amusement parks, merchandise, and my guess is enough money to live off the proceeds of investments without ever having to create another piece of media. They might be able to be hurt in one or two areas, but there are so many revenue streams the only way to really hurt them is to get the government involved. With the money they have available to buy politicians I'm not hopeful.

280 And now, Jeremy (I think it was him) reports a bunch of the Star Wars Shill Media all making the argument that Star Wars should no longer attempt to appeal to Star Wars fans, but instead should just appeal to non-Star Wars fans, new viewers, casual fans.

There's a uge problem with that plan:

Star Wars movies are and always have been objectively terrible, and do not maintain as standalone movies.

If any of the previous 10 Star Wars movies had been an independent brand-new movie not part of a franchise with a built-in fan base then it would have failed and lost money. But because each had cachet as part of an ongoing story and as part of something a dedicated based was emotionally invested in, it immediately got enough viewers to make it profitable - - ALL those viewers being Fanboys -- before then earning some extra cash from the casual nonfans who go to see it "because everyone else is."

But if you eliminate that built-in guaranteed fan-base audience, you will NEVER get the same level of viewership just from casuals -- for the self-evident reason that there's a smaller audience pools nowl but also because there's no mass-movement to see the movie, so no one has the rationale to see it "because everyone else is."

Disney will soon learn what it's like to release an independent mediocre film without a built-in audience -- it actually has a good chance of failing. They're so used to guaranteed winners that the idea that a film could utterly flop seems inconceivable to them.

That said, I'm worried Marvel movies will go SJW after Avengers 4, if for no other reason than there doesn't seem to be a specific plan from that point on. Like other people here, I want to see Avengers 4 to close out the whole arc that started with Iron Man, but that may be it for me.

321 On a related note:

Yesterday I found in a pile of free books a 1974 DC comic that introduced a new superhero character: OMAC.

Anybody heard of OMAC? Whatever became of the character? Did he exist beyond this one "origin story" issue? (Price printed on the cover: 20 cents. Wow.)

He was a pretty pointless and unnecessary character. His name was an acronym for "One Man Army Corps," because he fought as if he was a one-man army. But the whole origin stiory was trivial and ridiculous, and there ssems to have been no "need" for a new copycat type superhero who wasn't really much different than other superheroes. The only cool part was that he has 1970s sideburns AND a mohawk! Beat the punks by two years.

337 Oh Star Wars fans are listening. Solo's failure is proof of that.

I was born in '82 so I missed the original theatrical run, but I saw all three Special Editions on opening night and multiple times thereafter. Saw each prequel at a midnight showing on opening night and then at least one more time. TIE Fighter is my favorite video game of all time. I've purchased and read way too many good and bad EU novels. I consider myself an "absolutely loves the movies and certain EU stuff" type of fan, and not the "camps out in line weeks ahead of time in costume" kind.

I knew something was wrong after Force Awakens shoved Mary Suewalker in all of our faces, but Rogue One had me thinking that everything was OK despite its idiotic cartoon characters who make idiotic decisions. Then The Last Jedi came out, and that was the last straw. I swore off Disney Wars after that abomination, and still haven't seen Solo and don't plan to until I can either torrent it or get it for $2 from a Redbox. JJ saying I hated the movie because I was afraid of women (MrsUNIVAC in certain contexts sure, but not in general) and then the Pando controversy just proved me right. As far as I'm concerned Star Wars ended with Revenge of the Sith, and all the EU stories that I liked are the ones that happened.

The fans sent Disney a message, but I don't think they're going to hear it unless IX craters too. Which given the sour mood of the fans, it might. Good luck generating $2 billion in box office with an audience composed of nobody but Woke Tumblrinas.

It turns out the whole Star Wars universe is very samey-samey and repetitive.

Posted by: ace

It all comes down to that "falling in love" moment when seeing the original 1977 film. If you watched it and were swept away and transported to another universe and essentially "fell in love" with the whole concept, then you were hooked and would forgive any failings of the subsequent films. But if you were one of those people (like me) who were baffled and unmoved by the original film, then you watched every subsequent film with a jaundiced and skeptical eye, and saw that they didn't qualify as entertaining meaningly standalone films.

Either you were smitten by Star Wars and loved everything about it, or you were not smitten and dismissed it entirely. I think there's no middle ground.

2. The scheming hostile nature of the SJW re-ordering of these franchises is shown by replacement of gender/ethnicity of existing characters rather than creating new characters.

Posted by: Semi-Literate Thug at June 12, 2018 04:53 PM (4TznP)

359 I think we're going to see the end of the comic book movie with the second and last Avengers.

I guess I'm just sick of the comic book tent pole flick with explosions, some minor characterization between CGI stuff and enough special effects artists to populate the computer science department at three poly techs.

At age 56, I went because my youngest son wanted to go, but now I realize with him leaving for the Naval Academy, we won't have that time together.

As for Star Wars, Disney has been busy killing the franchise with SJW propaganda and just too much product. The first "new" film was a poor remake of the '77 classic I saw when I was 15, complete with a 90-pound girl who had the greatest Force skills without any instruction and lens flares. Rogue One's only good scenes involved Darth Vader being the Sith Lord I always liked. Again, a 90-pound girl beats the stew out of stormtroopers twice her size.

Sure...right..uh...huh.

I didn't see the Last Jedi, but when I read the plot summary and user reviews, I realized I hadn't missed a thing.

I won't see Soylo. There's only one Han Solo and he isn't on the screen in that movie. Also the whole cover-their-ass bit about Lando being omnisexual or whatever is despicable pandering that hasn't saved what is turning out to be a bomb.

Why can't Disney make movies with stories and characters that the average consumer can enjoy, sans political statements? Do they hate money?

Blaming your consumers for why your product doesn't is a brilliant means to get them to buy more, right? Whatever happened to the customer is always right? I guess in Hollywood, unless you kowtow to their sick, twisted godless SJW values, you need a good dose of propaganda with your "entertainment."

It was a pointless treatment too. Until that point she'd been protrayed as a sweet, fun girl who was nice to everyone and super smart. Then when the nicest guy on earth shows up (any character Freeman plays) she throws racist cracks at him? That's like having Tony Stark call Black Panther "boy" and telling him to get some watermelon. It was pointlessly insulting just to get a few black members of the audience to laugh or something.

And it made no sense: the character was American, when did they colonize Africa? Oh yeah NEVER. And Wakanda was never colonized, so what the hell do they care?

Is that true of the first one? I remember that later he was simply drawn back to Mars by his yearning.

in the book it's some kind of mental projection. I think in the movie it's something about concentrating on the symbols on the wall in the cave, like it's a teleporter.

In the book he just looks at mars as he's falling asleep and dreams of it or something and then he's there. To be honest it's pretty vague and I didn't understand how he did it.

Will never see another one in the theater. Just seems like a big scam. I've shelled out enough money for this silly franchise. 435 That's the background to the entire SJW Marvel (and DC) thing though: expand our sales by alienating our base and attracting new readers with minority and chick and homosexual characters written by the same identity groups!

That's their entire plan, literally. They have decided that the comic book reader base is aging and shrinking (true) so the way to fix that is to simply bypass them and get new readers.

Except your product has the readers and fan base it has because that's who like the product. Its like having a Mexican restaurant and noticing that fans of mexican food are dwindling so you start making all the food out of vegan products. Its still Tex-Mex, its just crappy now. OK, it seems that OMAC is explained on these two wikipedia pages:

First, the 1974 OMAC:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OMAC_(Buddy_Blank)

"OMAC (Buddy Blank) is a superhero comic book character created in 1974 by Jack Kirby and published by DC Comics. The character was created towards the end of Kirby's contract with the publisher, following the cancellation of his New Gods series and was reportedly developed strictly due to Kirby needing to fill his contractual quota of 15 pages a week.[1][2] As envisioned by Kirby, OMAC is essentially Captain America set in the future....
The original OMAC series ended with its eighth issue (November–December 1975),[6] canceled before the last storyline could be completed, and Kirby wrote an abrupt ending to the series."

But then they rebooted the concept recently:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OMAC_(comics)

The OMACs (Omni Mind And Community, originally Observational Metahuman Activity Construct) are a fictional type of cyborg appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. They are based on the Jack Kirby character of the same name....

The OMACs first appeared in The OMAC Project #1 (June 2005) and were created by Greg Rucka."

Vertigo has always been fringe wierdo stuff though, I'm not sure how much that signifies.

Didn't Ta'neshi Coates write a comic book for Marvel recently? How'd that sell?

It didn't. Canceled the series after two issues. They did have him write an issue of Captain America which had Cap only in a flashback and was about evil white people fighting against Antifa and BLM.

I never really followed GamerGate. I was busy when all that shit was hitting the fan, so I never fully grasped what it was, what the implications are, and what the fallout is / should have been / could have been.

Also - the only games I've played in the last 10 years are those available on the Wii, due to the presence of younglings in the house (and the cost of them). And Minecraft.

Prior to that, I wasn't really much of a "gamer" either. Quake and Quake III. Unreal.

Can someone point me to a top-level writeup, or give me the quick synopsis and help a moron out?

Pay to play reviews is going to be endemic to just about every form of entertainment.

Honestly, the only difference to me with video games is that one of the major players (Nintendo) has no interest in pushing politics (at least not American politics). The minute we get pansexual Mario, I give up on life.

(Those rumors about Birdo are odious lies! Mario is as hetero as they come.)

Well, to be frank, that plan WORKS in places like SF and Brooklyn. They DO make vegan versions of various ethnic cuisines, and make a pretty penny selling it to soibois and soigrrrls.

So since the writers live in these enclaves, they probably got the idea to replicate the pattern with move audiences.

Problem is, the whole of the USA in not like some hipster enclave, so the idea doesn't scale up well.

We're winning battles even if the war is ongoing. Evidence of this was in the Steam (a MAJOR gaming platform on the desktop PC) recently telling the SJWs to fuck off.

Steam needs to tell some others to fuck off besides SJWs. I think they realized that if they caved to their demands and set the policy the way they wanted it would result in games like The Witcher Series having to be taken off Steam.

But who Steam needs to tell to fuck off really is the asset flippers and other dreck on their platform.

Posted by: zombie at June 12, 2018 04:53 PM (c+2jX)

I have to disagree. The original Star Wars was an excellent movie, not because of the content but because of the wild new special effects. It was, at the time, pretty awesome.

The problem was that too many people forgot that it was just an effects movie (the whole "The Force" bullshit sort of caught on as a fad but was really half a joke) and started taking the ridiculous story (which seemed, with the following movies, to be created ad hoc) seriously.

Star Wars, the original movie, was a fine piece of work - a fine piece of special effects work and good guys killing bad guys, generally. The rest was total dogshit.

469 Star Wars, etc. were fun when they were just simply movies, with the spontaneity and energy that comes from a genuine creative spark. They connected with people because they were real stories that had a beginning and an end.

Now that everything is a Franchise, i.e., a soulless corporate product to be
milked for every cent possible according to a rigid schedule, stories
are no longer allowed simply to end in their appropriate time. They
must all linger on forever on life support until the plug is mercifully
pulled. Star Wars now is about as emotionally engaging as the latest McDonald's burger rollout.

475 Late to the party but my 2 cents.....
Disney ain't going anywhere. Why? Because there aren't any other movie companies that do animated cartoons as well as they do. Oh sure some of their recent stuff has been somewhat infected but they minimize that in the children's movie arena. They know if they fuck that up they are dead. Even leftist useful idiots don't want their 5y old exposed to that crap.

Also about star wars..? I have a very different view of those movies than most people. . I loved the O T . Not because of Luke, Leia, Han.... nope. For me, Star Wars is about Darth Vader. It's the road he traveled from pure evil to some form of redemption. I liked the prequels trilogy also, because it showed the road Anikan Skywalker traveled from being a smart but annoying kid to becoming pure evil. Sure the prequels had some problems, the kid was annoying, some of the main the actors were not great (Christensen and Portman were just gawdawful), but it was still a story of good vs evil. Evil won that time. The newest group of star wars does not interest me. I don't care to see Luke, Han, Leia as old pointless characters. Without Vader there is nothing to interest me.

478 See, even if you don't like the Marvel Superhero universe, or the dorky Star Wars universe, you are here talking about it.

That's the pernicious nature of the shabby pop culture world we live in.
We actually live in an age of technological marvels, people flying around the world at 35,000 ft, watching movies.
All the music you want in the palm of your hand.
Life expectancy getting longer.
And on, and on.

And we get fed idiotic childish drek by Disney and SKG and all the rest, and they are fighting to put out some dissonant political garbage embedded in childrens fantasy stories, because so-called adults are being too simple minded to expect MORE.

It all fucking sucks. Disney sucks so hard we should have hurricanes in Florida all the time from the low pressure cell over Orlando.

Frankly, I wish an asteroid would come down there and turn it into a smoking crater. Whatever Disney and the rest once were (and even back in the '30's and 40's, the propaganda was being laid on pretty thick), it's gone now.

Our pop culture is a sickening morass of stupid, malevolent memes, trying to make us all into robots of the SJW mindset. You will accept LGBT and all the rest, or else!!
I want Disney to burn, literally burned to the ground, with Bob Iger and the rest tied to the stake.

We'll see what they plan to do with the A-listers, but Chris Hemsworth seems like he's having the time of his life playing Thor, and they've laid the ground for Bucky to take over as Cap (and so replace Evans with Sebastian Stan) for several years. The only major hump they've got to get over is replacing RDJ as Iron Man, since he's been the face of this thing for a decade.

Moon Knight is great, but he's such a Batman rip off it would be tough to distinguish him very well. I mean his multiple personality thing is a nice start but he needs more to really be a unique character rather than a clone with silver rather than black longjohns.

There's something about the FF that is just so 60s era goofy that it just does not seem capable of lending itself to any remotely serious screen portrayal.

They really are the 60's "explorer family" theme and its hard to bring that to modern day... unless you play up the super science themes and family laughs.

I've picked up most of the comic run when I can get back issues on sale.

The rest of SJW marvel is a dumpster fire.

490 I think the market research people look at the numbers and see that maybe 20% of the people who see Star Wars and Superhero movies are hard-core fans, so they think they can write them off.

What they don't realize is that those people account for 80% of the seats sold. (80/20 principle) Some of them will see the movie every weekend it's out, and some of them will bring friends and family. Some of them may even recruit new fans.

I used to be a die-hard Star Wars fan. My brother and I saw the original movie in excess of 15 times, and we took our parents at least once. I'm not one any more, but I do take my wife, who wouldn't have gone otherwise. When I decided to skip Solo, I cost them two tickets, not one. I did see Infinity War, and I'll probably see the next one, unless it gets the kind of reviews Solo is getting, but after that, I'm pretty much done with A-list Marvel as well. I'll see the funny side-stories, like Deadpool and Ant Man, though, as long as they're fun.

Oh, and maybe a gender-swapped lesbian Wolverine, in a love triangle with Jean Gray and Lady Cyclops as they fight male oppression. That would obviously be a good idea.
