Happy Birthday to the Dakota Access Pipeline, Which Has Been Delivering 500,000 Barrels Per Day Without the Catastrophic Poisoning of Water Tables We Were Promised

From John Sexton at Hot Air, the pipeline that was supposed to kill us all is just kinda chillin' and deliverin' oil.

Forbes:

DAPL has been quietly transferring crude oil from the Bakken fields in North Dakota at a rate of over 500,000 barrels per day. That has helped bolster North Dakota’s daily production numbers. According to the North Dakota's Department of Mineral Resources, North Dakota production hit 1.16 million barrels per day in March, thanks in large to part to DAPL..

The Dakota Access Pipeline's safety record to date is quite impressive--the pipeline has been entirely free from significant incidents. While several minor leaks have been recorded, they were each quickly contained at the source and amounted to mere gallons, rather than barrels of volume escaping. According to available data, the pipeline lost less than 4 barrels of oil during its first six months in operation versus roughly 61.25 million barrels transported during the same period of time...

I honestly don't think these people understand why it is that few of us have to do heavy, tedious physical labor every single day of our lives any longer. And that those who do have to do physical labor have their efforts multiplied a dozenfold.

These are preliterate, superstitious savages we're dealing with, and they really believe that the computer they're furiously typing "OIL IS AIDS!!!!" into runs on magic.

35 It's a shame no good investigative work was ever done on those protests, and now it's too late - but I strongly suspect, in fact believe, that the entire pipeline protest was set up by John Podesta, Hillary's campaign manager, and financed by Steyer, the billionaire California eco-loon.

I personally knew someone who had a family member, a 20 something slacker, who was given free cross country transportation and $15 a day to go hang out in that camp while it was going on. Everyone who was there was paid - it was a big budget operation, which meant that Big Money was behind it.

Steyer.

52 I have some theories. This is a free country so I'm allowed to have theories even on things about which I am ignorant.

1) At present, fossil fuels provide the most efficient way to move things and people and perform other types of work.
2) There is more benefit in taking the fuel out of the ground than there is in leaving it in the ground.
3) Fossil fuels are more renewable than is acknowledged. I suspect that the remains of carbon-based life forms are continuing to turn into oil now as they have been in the past. As long as things keep dying, these fuels will continue to be produced.

How feasible are my theories?

The funny/idiotic thing about the Enviro's wailing about Evil Oil touching the Precious Earth is that - every asphalt parking lot you have ever seen represents tens of thousands of gallons of oil poured out onto the earth. Our road system represents billions of gallons of oil spilled out all across the earth.

63 One thing I'd like to see Trump do is have a national standard for fuel. Many states have different mandates and the plants and refineries have to shut down and re-tool to make another blend/supply. And keep the damn corn out of my fckn tank! I was with my youngest driver who just got her license. I was showing her how to gas up the car and she was going to use e85. And I told her under no circumstances was she ever to use it. But dad it's cheaper! Then I explained that it wasn't. Especially with lower mileage and being shit for the engine.

64 One of my half-brothers is a total liberal/lefty on most issues.

But he has a PhD in soil engineering and used to work on geothermal power plants.

Despite toeing the line on my Dem issues, he is adamant that fracking is totally safe and a "genius solution" to the problem of difficult-to-extract petroleum. And he knows all the science behind it like the back of his hand. I've seen him destroy fellow liberals in conversation when they condemn fracking, thinking that he (like all libs) will just blithely agree with all the disinformation.

And this has actually proven to be a great "lever issue" -- because now he's beginning to understand that the opposition to fracking is not actually based on fears that it is "dangerous," but solely based on opposition to ALL "carbon-based energy" because of "Global warming." So now he's beginning to doubt the whole Global Warming bullshit too. Little by little he's flipping on related positions, like dominoes falling in his political mindscape.

Demanding that everyone follow their dicta in lockstep. Everyone has to be open-minded and tolerant of the things they believe, but God forbid they should ever concede, even for a moment, that someone who disagrees with them might have some fingerhold on truth."

Hopefully that continues, but we can still export massive coal, even if we don't use as much. Might be easier to export than liquifying NG, idk. All energy is good ... make it cheap, scrub it clean ... power to the people.

And with the cities on the east coast gone, the country will be unbalanced, and the whole continent will capsize.

With all the shithole states, it reminds me of the joke with the two morons that worked construction. One day, a beam falls on the construction worker they normally ate lunch with, and when asked if he had any unique identifying features, the morons said, "he has two assholes"."He has two what?""Assholes.""How do you know?""When we would go out to lunch with him, the other guys would say, 'Look! There's the guy with the two assholes.'"That sorta sums up the United States. We're a county with quite a few shithole states, some on each end.

Seems high to me "

Summer driving season, tensions with Iran, but mostly Venezuela.

Venezuelan production is crashing towards zero. 5 years ago they were still pumping out 2 million barrels per day. That is a huge amount of production to pull off the market. Saudi's have increased production a little but not a lot. A year ago oil was still $40/bbl, today it's $65, give or take. It's been up to $72 within the last few weeks.

Drilling will increase here in the states, but understand that there's always a 2 - 3 year gap between the time prices start to rise and the time home grown production starts to rise. It's just not possible to ramp up drilling operations any faster than that, especially when so many of the drillers in the last boom went bankrupt 3 years ago.

We'll have to disagree on the Japanese interment. The ones that were American citizens were denied their rights (incarcerated, lost their businesses and property, etc.), by a Dem president, upheld by the SCOTUS at the time. It was an affront to the Constitution and Bill of Rights. The irony (lost on the left) of demonizing that move without acknowledging the party of the President that did that is lost on them.

The thing no one talks about in reference to Takei's family in WWII -- they were sent to Tule Lake, which was the relocation center for the Japanese who refused to declare allegiance to the United States and/or who declared support for the Japanese emperor. It wasn't just another random relocation center -- it was the Supermax facility for suspected traitors.

So -- were Takei's parents traitors?

Another twist on the story -- later, as an adult, Takei acted in a Twilight Zone episode in which he indeed plays the role of the son of a Japanese-American traitor who helped plan the Pearl Harbor attack. Was he chosen for the role because it reflected his real-life family story?

- had no environmental studies for the site,

- did not meet any safety codes,

Posted by: jim

Actually, not exactly true.

Nobody confiscated their property. Nobody shut down their businesses. Most Japanese in fact were able to retain their property throughout the internment. The ones who "lost" their property or businesses did so mostly because they panicked and sold it off, fearing their it might eventually be confiscated (which no property ever was). Because they sold quickly and under duress, they usually sold at under-market value to unscrupulous real estate dealers.

The tales of all Japanese "losing their property" is a later-added sob story that was actually a side issue and not part of the government order. I forget the exact stats, but something like 70% of internees didn't panic and were able to retain their property throughout the war.

THe most unfair part, and the ones who do deserve the most sympathy, were the ones who had mortgages on their property which they couldn't pay while interned, so had to sell for necessary financial reasons.

348 Hey, Democrats! Before you start call Republicans "Nazis" in immigration, read up on the M.S. St. Louis.

In 1939, the ship carried over 900 Jewish refugees seeking refuge (including the great-uncle of Billy Joel). But that compassionate Democrat FDR and his Democrat Congress turned them away and they returned to Europe, where one out four perished in a death camp.

Another proud moment in Democrat Party history.

American citizens were denied their rights (incarcerated, lost their businesses and property, etc.)

Posted by: jim

Actually, not exactly true.

Nobody confiscated their property. Nobody shut down their
businesses. Most Japanese in fact were able to retain their property
throughout the internment. The ones who "lost" their property or
businesses did so mostly because they panicked and sold it off, fearing
their it might eventually be confiscated (which no property ever was).
Because they sold quickly and under duress, they usually sold at
under-market value to unscrupulous real estate dealers.

The tales of all Japanese "losing their property" is a later-added
sob story that was actually a side issue and not part of the government
order. I forget the exact stats, but something like 70% of internees
didn't panic and were able to retain their property throughout the war.

THe most unfair part, and the ones who do deserve the most sympathy,
were the ones who had mortgages on their property which they couldn't
pay while interned, so had to sell for necessary financial reasons.

Posted by: zombie at June 19, 2018 04:07 PM (c+2jX)

Point taken, except how do you run an mom-and-pop shop when hundreds of miles away in an interment camp? It won't exactly run itself, especially of the rest of the family is also interned. Moreover, they lost their freedom of movement and association. Could they vote? They basically had the same rights as felons in prison. What was the due process they had?

That is confiscation, and an ugly type at that. Preventing them from paying on their property and allowing foreclosure and also abandonment of property is an insidious form of confiscation. The sheriff of Nottingham was more honest.

Businesses languished, fishing boats stuck at dock, and properties and houses left empty for years. For a blanket charge. We fought the British over shit like this.
