I freely admit I was less patriotic during the Dogeater reign of terror. I thought, "how can I be politically yoked to people with whom I share very few basic values". Please go read the Schlichter article on the side bar.

An unintended consequence is that the "universities" have become trade schools. They're not about education for its own sake anymore; they're about getting good jobs. All their prattling at this time of year about how noble they are is just a load of hooey. They're diploma mills.

That, and Griggs v. Duke Power ("disparate impact"), which in effect made it difficult for companies to use tests, and they therefore switched a college degree as a screening device instead of a qualification. That resulted in the proliferation of worthless "degrees" to get around the college degree as a screening device.

Here in CA, with its despicable "jungle primary," young Villaragosia (sp? I don't care) has pulled an especially underhanded trick. He's sending out campaign literature that invites the conclusion it is from the weaker of the Republican candidates for governor, so as to split the Republican vote and allow Villaragosia to get in to run against Newsome.

The only indication of the origin of the mailing is in small print on the back, where Villaragosia and a couple of Communist-infested unions (e.g., SEIU) are cited.

36 #15. Market for student loans has a ceiling of available students who then push ceiling down to what is actually borrowed. The real problem is that government used to provide higher education at a highly subsidized amount has shifted the costs onto the capital markets. Due to escalating tuition and easy credit, the U.S. has 101 people who owe at least $1 million in federal student loans, according to the Education Department. Five years ago, 14 people owed that much.
More could join that group. While the typical student borrower owes $17,000, the number of those who owe at least $100,000 has risen to around 2.5 million, nearly 6% of the borrowing pool, Education Department data show.

50 What amazes and disturbs me is the appearance of Diversity Commissars in corporations.

A bunch of corporations got busted for being jerks to employees in noble classes protected groups. Those corporations were toxic to everybody (I worked at Shell at the time; Texaco was a well known shithole with dickheads in management) but it was the minorities who took the press. Even though they were already Equal Opportunity / Affirmative Action shops.

The Supreme Court ruled that the corps could be less liable if they had some measurable means to prevent discrimination before it started. This is, of course, bollocks. But the usual hucksters started a "diversity" racket and the Supremes agreed with the hucksters that their snake oil would work.

I specifically mentioned the founders, who are NOT the political leadership.

And if you are going to organize a generational overhaul of Western Civilization, I'd say that involves quite a bit of systems creation, and not just randomly breaking things.

I kinda think that's one of the problems that exists on the so-called Right. This quaint notion that we're fighting against a few rotten eggs, who want to get their pet projects off the ground.

The "long march through the institutions" is not a myth, it isn't an intellectual exercise. It's happening. It has happened.

Isn't that the point of all of this?

84 My alma mater is holding a transcript due to debt they cannot prove I owe them. Right now I'm going back and forth with them, but in about a week this situation will become actionable if the third party vendor keeps the twelve bucks I paid w/o giving me the transcript. Actionable against the school not the vendor .

Does anyone know if I can file a claim in small claims court, in addition to lawsuit in real court?

Gates Of Vienna reports that

Tommy Robinson, the former leader of the English Defence League, was beaten up in prison this past week. He was reportedly bloodied and bruised, but had no broken bones.

Putting Tommy inside with violent Muslim criminals is a blatant move to have him killed. Now that he is seen as a "turncoat" by some in the EDL, arranging to have him put down while in prison may be an appealing solution for the Powers That Be in Britain.

And the British press is banned from even reporting Tommy's name by some British judge. Brit 'freedom' is now on a par with the old USSR.

You missed the part about making a system that works. Totalitarianism has gone by many names throughout history; communism, socialism, progressivism, liberalism, etc. but they are all the same thing at their core. And that core has never, ever worked. Anywhere. And it never will.

It is simply antithetical to human nature and in time human nature always wins out. But that has never stopped totalitarians of thinking this time it will work!

Building a system that works, which is what the founders did, was sheer brilliance because it was based on individual rights given by a creator that were not at the whim of any one man or group. It had never really been tried on such a grand scale.

I never said this was just a small group of bad apples. In fact, I've been arguing right here on this very web place for over a year now that what we have been involved with is an enormous coup attempt that does not end at our borders. It was an attempt by totalitarians from around the world to subvert our government and install a political class more inline with their thinking and that of the institutional bureaucracy that has largely co-opted our government.

Of course the long march isn't fake. It's been happening right before our eyes in our schools, our culture, our government and only now are we beginning to successfully fight back in virtually every area. And we are winning.

The end result could also be colleges only offering loans to those with "good credit", i.e. STEM and other majors with good income potential, but I wouldn't trust our government to set up the laws in a way that gets us to this result.

I suspect everybody sounds like a complete idiot in a deposition transcript because you're getting a verbatim transcript of what is, in effect, a conversation. So no tone of voice, body language, etc. come through, and that's a significant part of a conversation.

A grad student and I were planning out a paper we were about to write, so as an experiment I recorded the conversation and had my secretary transcribe it.

We sounded like a pair of bonobos grooming each other. It was humiliating.

164 I'd love to see schools become responsible for worthless degrees. Then maybe they'd stop hawking them so hard in order to build up their faculties.

A good portion of that problem can be laid on the government, as well... "disparate impact" rulings mean companies can't use IQ tests and such to screen employees. (Except for the ASVAB for military jobs. Funny how the gov't is always exempt from its own rules.)

Thus, the college degree in Worthlessness Studies has become the new leftist-approved "IQ test", where they can balance out all the disparate-y impact-y racial and social stuff, and make sure that everyone can get their credential. Even if it takes them seven years and $300K in loans.

He isn't even going to replace enough federal judges to genuinely change the direction this is going.

>>Not to mention, he isn't going to fix Europe.

>>You can call it winning if you want. I happen to believe we're beyond repair at this point.

Well, that's like just your opinion man.

Seriously, Trump isn't going to fix everything by himself but he is providing the leadership to enable others at all levels.

His administration is addressing a lot of things you mentioned. Look how the left is losing their mud over Betsy DeVos and her hacking away at the crazy shit the left has forced on our schools. The media is in complete meltdown as their duplicity is being exposed daily. CNN, once the flagship of cable media has now been shown to be a clown show with an agenda. He just signed an EO last week that makes firing federal employees easier and Janus is scheduled to be decided in June and that could be a death blow for both public and private unions. And he and the Senate have been appointing judges at a record level and it looks like he might get another Supreme soon.

Europe is not my concern. The US is. But I think it would be a mistake to think Trump isn't having an enormous effect on the world stage. Look at North Korea. The Sunni alliance that is fighting extremism. The ending of the Iran deal and the announcement to European companies that they can either do business with the US or Iran but not both.

Yes, the long march has been a multi-generational attempt to take over way of life. And they made huge strides. And now they are being confronted in a way they never thought possible and they are losing ground everyday. It took us generations to get here, it will take that many to get back. We haven't won yet but for the first time in a very long time we are on offense and yes, we are winning.

Posted by: Comanche Voter at May 27, 2018 12:25 PM (Sda6L)
----------------------------------
Plenty. Look at all of those HR, 'sensitivity-training,' and diversity advisers, not to mention 'community organizers.'

This is the thing. For centuries higher Western education was based on the liberal arts, i.e., education for a free man, which originally meant one who did not need to learn a trade. The purpose of this education was to increase wisdom and virtue.

In contrast to this, Progressives have advocated instrumental education. Everything has to have a practical, material purpose.

This works well enough for many subjects. of course, but what happens to disciplines like literature or history?
They become worthy only when they shift from a philosophical to an ideological basis, that is, from the pursuit of wisdom and truth for its own sake to the manipulation of ideas to bring social change.

Thus, the Studies departments. Like the trade schools, they are instrumental. But unlike the trade schools, the practical effects they have are purely destructive.

Of course. That's his job. He doesn't want the truth; he wants the answer that will support his case. The idea in deposition is (I understand) to provide as little information as possible. Deposition, I've been informed, is just a ticket to get to testify. If you got into the whole complex truth, as opposed to just answering the question as asked, the opposing lawyer could craft his cross examination of you with greater precision in light of your more complete answer. So by NOT getting into the whole complex truth, you're in a better position.

As has frequently been noted, this is the most exceptional country on the planet, populated by an extraordinary people.
We got here by virtue of adherence to the finest political system extant.

In our growth, we have prevailed over some dire circumstances and I am unshaken in my belief that we will prevail in this one.

Because of WHO we are.

I want to be an optimist. I really do, but everything you mentioned, all those trends in the pop culture... generally they get replaced by something even worse. As each of them are, indeed, progressions toward tattoos and scruffy beards and trendy beers.

Every time I find myself having the urge to say "well, I'm glad that's over, what comes next can't possibly be worse," the universe responds "hold my beer."

FWIW, I understand testifying is actually easier than getting deposed. Depositions can be free-ranging, and the lawyer can get aggressive if he wants, to see how you'll react.

In a courtroom I suspect he is likely to be less aggressive, because going after you aggressively will put off the jury and engender their sympathy for you.

Also the issues are teed up more in the courtroom proceedings, and so (I understand) the festivities are more circumscribed in scope.

You're missing the worst of it. Which I happened to be driving around in this morning. National Weather Alert something or other coming through the radio/bluetooth phone connection.

Something interesting I noticed, all the new areas of development had no issues, but the 'old' sections of highways had nearly a foot of water across them. Drove past a lot of retaining basins in new developments absolutely filled to the brim.

I like 'good' zoning/development laws. They're not all good, but when it comes to flood control and living in the #2 state for flood damage, it's one time when government actually works.

THIS.

When my son was ten he played in a baseball tournament that did not have a slaughter-rule until after 5 innings. At the end of the 1st inning his team was down 11-0. Ten errors.
The starting pitcher (and a couple of other 'stars') left in disgust and my son took over.

I was amazed. The kid acted like the score was tied or something. Or did he care? He was just out there doing his best and then rallying his teammates to cheer up and focus.

Of course they lost (16-3) but it was an inspiring performance.

We had a game like that in the geezers' league. We were down 11-0 in the bottom of the first. Our pitchers couldn't miss a bat, then couldn't hit the strike zone, then guys started making errors. Absolutely everything that could go wrong, did go wrong.

But we didn't lose heart, didn't bitch at each other, just stayed calm and played our game. We chipped away, chipped away, until (modesty prohibits) the tying run was driven in in the seventh inning as the other team felt the lead slipping through their fingers like sand, and they began to freak, their earlier grins turning to tightness and pressing.

We ended up winning the game.

Also, in the athletic context, it's just sportmanship. You give the other team the best fight you can. If you give up, everybody is bummed. You're obviously bummed, but so is the other team. It's no fun to compete against a quitter.

I asked because my son asked about this film and I knew nothing about it other than many people here didn't see it or didn't want to.
Posted by: FenelonSpoke at May 27, 2018 01:56 PM (vw6r3)

Ethan Van Sciver giver a blow by blow review on youtube (with spoilers). He says there was one effective action scene that lasts for about 10 minutes in the middle of the movie (the Kessel run heist). From what I took away, the main problem isn't that Solo is feminized, it's more that he's not really the hero. He's a bumbler, not really the main driver of the action and is upstaged by the female characters such as the shrill L3-37 android, Qi'ra, and Enfys Nest (another case of a 16 year old girl beating up 200 pound, muscular men).

So basically the problems are:
a) the 2h15m movie is boring, except for one 10 minute sequence.

b) It's a liberal bait and switch. People come expecting to see a movie starring a favorite hero of theirs, and instead they get annoying feminist claptrap and the hero is pushed aside and turned into a fifth wheel. As ace observed, they don't want to invent heroes of their own, they want to destroy yours.

c) Lando's outfits get increasingly gayer as the movie progresses. Van Sciver refers to the ship as the Millennium Flamingo.

Review is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-pfBcS6c9Q

The video lasts 1h45m, but the actual review is less than an hour, the remainder is just van Sciver chatting with people on his chat channel.

Battali was yet another leftist asshole that screamed about Trump being indecent, trying to cover for his own sexual harassment of his employees. A "feminist" who surrounded himself with women was predictably cover for a predator surrounding himself with prey. Couldn't have happened to a nicer man.

As much as it may suck for the employees, turnover is very high in the restaurant industry, so this isn't something they are going to be unprepared for.

Two key things to post WWII nation building success, imo.

A completely defeated enemy that totally capitulated, citizens included (unlike say post-WWI Germany where the military surrendered, but the civilians didn't feel defeated since the front lines were still on French soil). Without this the population is still going to be very attached to their pre-war mentality and desire or be easily convinced to return to that status quo.

A common enemy or some other easily understandable, strong incentive to mutual cooperation. The USSR was the big thing here. West Germany had no intention of being subjects of Moscow and Japan was not willing to let the Soviets grab up large pieces of it's territory.

As I've ranted before (y'all are probably getting sick of it), commies don't really care about what the end result is. The socialist utopia they advocate is just the lie that they tell to obscure their real goal. The only thing they care about is destroying Western Civilization, and the joy of shooting a few kneeling Kulaks in the back of the neck.

That's why they get along so well with the mohammedans, they have the same goal of destroying the West. The only real difference is that the mohammedans have a plan for what comes afterwards.

I read this as a prelude to the OIG report revealing that the Hillary investigation got tanked on purpose.

I expect this to come out before Trump/Giuliani settle on whether Trump will sit down with Mueller. I bet that Trump will insist on it.

TGE had over 5 times the arrests in 2017 than Obama did in a average year. And that was his first year.

Also wasn't the Backpage founder linked to the DNC/Hillary or Obama in some way. Pretty close if I can recall.

Then the NXIVM child trafficking cult is directly linked to the Clintons with many large donors. NXIVM has around 90 companies and NGO's as well.

And to think TGE has only scratched the surface. These people once exposed will not even be able to go out in public (the criminals and enablers).

439 430 When will there be a Marine landing at Pedo Island? It would be classic if Bubba got caught with his pants off and a fourteen year old in his bed.
Posted by: Ruthless at May 27, 2018 03:49 PM (md3fh)

That island had a massive fire. Nobody knows what caused it but it was huge. Either Epstein and DynCorp were destroying evidence or team TGE called in action to destroy the place.

442 I raised a bum.

So did my dad. Fortunately for him, I found a profession that rewards sloth: software engineering.

You see, when we're asked to do repetitive boring crap, we'll write a script to do it for us; when we're told to support shitty unmanageable code, we'll rewrite it to make it easier.

444 So the Feds gave Epstein (a friend of Bill) a pass, including on forfeiture charges, for giving the FBI some bullshit intel.

Epstein's crimes were committed in his NYC and FL mansions, which were worth a lot, and presumably could have been seized.

447 Maybe they called in the Mossad laser sharks to zap Pedo Island. Interesting idea that it might have been a stealth attack on that place.

453 An argument against the NFL ban on kneeling during the Anthem I've been hearing is that the fans don't treat it with reverence, so why should the players.

I think this is horseshit. Has anyone seen this, other than a few isolated people.

454 Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif, a key architect of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, was caught on camera chanting Death to America, Death to Britain and Death to Israel, Israeli outlet Ynetnews reported on Saturday.

What a fukn loser. Chanting death to america is a little tired and passe. In a country of 80 M can you comes up with a more original threat? We are getting tired of this mediocre revolutionary bullshit! Call a NYC advertising firm or a public opinion firm. Get some new slogans.

457 " Even Longshanks didn't order a press ban when he executed Braveheart William Wallace. "

Meant Tommy Robinson, who got put in GenPop, and the judge banned press reporting in it. Tommy will likely not live out his 13 month sentence. So Tommy and the judge will both get what they wanted.

462 That Robert Barnes twitter is a bombshell, and explains a lot. Love that Sally Yates is implicated. She was involved in the Flynn Frame:

Early forecast: #Spygate started in 2015, not 2016, by Sally Yates allowing private contractors to access NSA database. Evidence: why otherwise would they get the wrong Cohen in Prague? Also note #Spygate shifts to "human sources" (e.g. spies) same time that Rogers shut it down.

464 That's a pity. I drive past three Best Buys to get
to Fry's. It has all kinds of cool stuff you can't find anywhere else
(e.g., electronic components, inter alia), and has a huge cylindrical
aquarium in the center of the store, as well as a dining area.

It's kind of fun just to go there, look around, and hang out.

Posted by: Deplorable Jay Guevara, now with a spark of divinity at May 27, 2018 03:13 PM (YqDXo)

So, Fry's is an electronic version of Starbucks.
Can you use their bathrooms without buying a printer first?

I joke, the Seattle area Fry's is indeed a pretty cool place if you like electro-tekkie stuff.
