Publix Caves to Li'l Hitler

I'm sure David French is busy writing up a piece right now.

Oh wait, no, he only scolds the right. The left's bullying he has lots of patience for.

And speaking of weakling bullies.

40 Damn it. I seriously just finished writing a "steel your spine" email to them five minutes ago. I've shopped at the same Publix for over a decade. The people there have watched my kids grow from infancy andrecognize us in sight. They're always friendly and say hi and ask us about our week. They're a great grocery store, but they're damn expensive. I can get my groceries for a lot less at Aldi or Walmart, but Publix has always been insanely active in the community and supported the locals, and so I've always been happy to spend a little more for the atmosphere, organization, and community support.

This is seriously disappointing.

I kind of had hopes for Publix, as they are based in Florida and get a lot of their business from gun-toting rednecks. Guess they felt like they could do without it.

I hate this, because Publix is the only decent supermarket in our area. Guess it's Walmart from now on...sigh. This is the first time I've actually been motivated to go through the trouble of writing a letter to a corporation to express my disappointment.

As the largest private employer in the state of Florida, and with the majority of our stores and our corporate headquarters located here as well, we have a history of supporting candidates focused on job growth and a healthy Florida economy.

We regret that some of our political contributions have led to an unintentional customer divide instead of our desire to support a growing economy in Florida.

Publix cares about our associates, customers and the communities we serve. It is important to understand that the vast majority of our giving is focused on organizations whose mission supports youth, education and the plight of the hungry and homeless within our area of operation.

As a result of this situation, we are evaluating our processes to ensure that our giving better reflects our intended desire to support a strong economy and a healthy community.

103 Publix rolled over because they are owned by Progressives... can you possibly think of another reason?

Isn't Publix one of those companies owned by its employees?

There are no Publix stores in my area--or in my region--to boycott.

119 I never even heard of Publix before. Looking at

inconvenient for grocery shopping. So I will continue to not shop
there.

Posted by: rickl at May 25, 2018 03:57 PM (xjiRE)

That is reasonable, that is what a normal would do. But the Left does not play it that way. They have massive internet groups all ready to tweet, retweet and whatever other crap they do. These guys hadn't heard of Publix either, and they don't care where it does business. . They get orders and respond en masse. Now they know they can get pretty much any company to bow down. Hell, they took out the entire rental car industry in a week.

Yeah, I am intrigued and might look into it. But this owned by employees thing sounds like a bunch of BS. I am sure some "employees" are more equal than others. I doubt the janitor is sitting in a lot of board meetings.

121 How exactly do companies perform assessments like "if I succumb to this SJW bullying and cave, it will cost me X, but if I resist it will cost me Y for such and so months, until people forget".

It seems to me as if they are overestimating the effects of twitter protests and making miscalculations.

124
My letter to Publix -

Allow me to congratulate you for your craven public caving to bullying from the full-of-himself Constitutional scholar, Mr. David Hogg. As a long-established enterprise, I had thought that your stance in the public marketplace would have been dictated by things more substantial than a sniveling attention whore who has corraled the press' attention for this week. It appears that you will learn your lesson about what actually represents a mature and well-considered public position the hard way.

I will state for the record that I am not one of your regular customers, but when our household travels to Florida on vacations, we more often than not have purchased groceries from your stores. Thank you for making it perfectly clear that those of us who support the God-given rights secured for us by the Second Amendment do not have a fellow traveler in you or your organization. Having such knowledge allows us to share the fruits of our labors with those in whom we can place our trust when the enemies of these inalienable freedoms come to suppress or extinguish such rights.

I wish you all the benefits you so richly deserve for being so craven.

127 I do the grocery shopping for the family and -- until this afternoon -- Publix has been my usual grocery store. Just sent Public corporate an e-mail telling them I will be shopping more at Kroger's and less with them. And why.
.
Henceforth, Publix will be 'neutral' about support for public affairs -- like Delta Air Lines.
.
Oh! Did you know? Mr. Hogg tweeted a 'thank you' to Delta yesterday for the FOUR charter flghts Delta put on so he could fly to DC and protest the 2nd Amendment. Delta management had been saying THREE charters. That's what their CEO describes as 'being neutral.'

Posted by: RNB at May 25, 2018 04:25 PM (DjjZJ)

128 Isn't this outright blackmail? Why is this allowed?

Also for the record, my gut tells me David Hogg is probably going to take his own life someday. I don't know why I think that. And I'm not one of those people who would rejoice in that or tell him to, I think that's evil.

It's just that fragility positively screams from every single part of him. I hope someone who loves him (obviously not his parents because they have encouraged this) can step in before it's too late.

Posted by: AnnaS at May 25, 2018 06:20 PM (l4l/z)

146 GnuBreed you'd be surprised. Years ago I knew of a Senator from a Rocky Mountain state (and yes he was a Democrat and a good friend of Teddy Kennedy and some Democrat Senator from Louisiana) who shtupped his ugliest female assistant on the floor of his office. Well I thought she was ugly and concluded the dude or "Senatorial dud" had lousy judgment. And the floor was probably dirty.

Now that's not the case with McCabe's conference table. I'm willing to bet (or at least fantasize) that McCabe's subordinate "Sroker" Strozk banged Ms. Paige good and hard on that table. Sort of breaking it in as it were.

Posted by: Comanche Voter at May 25, 2018 06:40 PM (Sda6L)

147 To be fair, I have a certain amount of sympathy for companies that just want to wash their hands of political controversy and stay neutral, which is what Publix appears to be trying to do here. However, if a company is going to do this, the best strategy is to wait out the controversy and then quietly make the changes later, when nobody's paying attention.

Just put out some boilerplate about "we welcome input from all our customers" yadda yadda yadda until the mob goes away, then quietly change your policies to be more neutral. When you very publicly make such changes in direct response to a Red Guard mob, you just look like a weakling giving in to bullies, and you're inviting bullies to push you around some more.

Sure, today they're just "suspending all donations," but next it will be agreeing to pay ransoms to a panoply of crazed leftist groups. Then it will be affirmatively signaling their alignment with these activist groups in their advertising. And on and on and on. That's how companies get converged.

Just ONCE I'd like a company to ignore the leftist mob. You'd think at least one company would realize there's a big market opportunity there.
