Nope, he was a stalker and a batterer.

Then we say the stalker and batterer was a bisexual socialist/communist and antifa supporter.

We didn't make the kid identify as Woke. We can only acknowledge it.

21 I know that Renaissance painters used contemporary fashion norms when depicting earlier times. But, the guy with the pink shirt, flowing epaulets, and some kind of floral depiction on his head....What's up with that? I don't recall any of the disciples being fruits. Was he just one of the riffraff that hung around the bars the disciples frequented? And who is the guy with the wombat on his head?

31 Matthew the tax collector worked on behalf of the hated Roman Empire. Simon the Zealot wanted to throw off the Roman overlords and get back to self-governance.

So basically a Big Government guy and a Tea Party guy. That would have made for some interesting conversations around the disciples' campfire.

You can't see it, but they're all wearing Crocs.

Posted by: Cicero (@cicero) at May 21, 2018 09:33 AM (ga0eq)

35 Matthew knew he needed to go. He wanted to go. When confronted with a Holy God he was compelled to follow Him. His sin which I'm sure he was mentally challenged by was confronting him. You see as a Jewish tax collector you were really well off. He had everything he needed and it wasn't enough to make him happy. So in his desperation he submitted to Jesus. It's the only way to come to Christ, you have to be desperate. Beg God for mercy. He will give you mercy. He never runs out of mercy, but His patience is limited. It's the only way.

261 Absolutely appalling about the ignorance on parade of our elected officials. Somehow they have been convinced that the Executive is subject to 'independent agencies' and Congressional budget and oversight does not apply to these earldoms of power.

They are dumb, but they can't be that dumb (other than Maxine Waters). I tend to think it is deliberate lying to the American people - which is worse than being dumb.

Of course, they probably are that dumb.

263 Late to the art thread, which is a shame because the art thread and the book thread are the best threads. It is written. And painted.

I don't get this one, though. It's a story or an allegory and I hope someone upthread has explained what's going on.

I like the pen and the inkpot. I draw with pen and ink but it's hard sometimes because nubs are meant to be drawn across the page and as a left hander I have to push.

My old girlfriend gave me a glass pen with a spiral tip that's amazing and doesn't care about direction.

I wonder how the right to left languages developed, given that 90% of everyone is right handed.

When I think of the '70s, my drinking career comes to mind. What parts of it I can remember, that is. Along with newsstands, pay phones, lousy network prime-time TV, HBO was only on from 4:30 pm until about 1:00 am, .55/gallon gas, $1.50 sixpacks, Carter, "Day nn of the Hostage Crisis in Iran," Christopher Reeve as Superman and Star Wars . . . You get the idea.

363 Trump will have another nomination! Hopefully, one of several more!

----------

The Kennedy seat fight (should it come) will be fun to watch. Gorsuch was just a Scalia replacement. It kept the status quo. The only argument the liberals sort of had was the "stolen seat" argument, which likely backfired on them since it basically meant the people didn't have a choice.

Kennedy is a swing voter, sometimes he is on your side, sometimes not. Now I suspect the Dems will go over the top and say he is such a conservative, this too will backfire on them. If he is such a conservative, replacing him with a conservative is again just keeping the status quo. They would be better off claiming he is a moderate and needs to be replaced with a moderate. But they can't help themselves.

Now a Ginsberg retirement would lead to an epic battle.

450 Even if the seat remained empty the balance would be shifted right.

Not a bad idea to consider. Moving the court to the right by shrinking gets you to the same spot. Shrinking may even be a good thing. Depends on the situation. But there is no reason why we have to have 9. Personally, I think the fewer, the better.

451 It's not a sin to be greedy, but to act upon greed. Same with homosexuality.

Posted by: John Waters at May 21, 2018 10:26 AM (n9gGi)

Correct, but Saint Thomas Aquinas distinguishes between natural and unnatural sin. It's why matricide feels more horrific to us than homicide of a stranger. Why killing your own child is worse than being ok with someone else killing theirs. Man's fallen nature and concupiscence battle with man's will, so "natural" sins, like greediness, the physical desire to reproduce, gluttony, lack of charity to one's enemies, passionate actions from anger, etc. are sins which are provoked through living in the world, insufficient will and a lack of enough grace to combat man's fallen nature. Other mortal sins, those that are "unnatural," according to Aquinas, are more disordered. Of course, it's the action not the desire or thought which harms the soul, others and rejects God.

Of course, the Red Pope was busy reading Marx instead of the Summa.

454 According to the New York Times' Jessica Valenti, conservative women cannot use the term "feminist" because their beliefs do no match up with hers nor in her mind help women. In today's edition of NYT, Valenti says:

"Now, we have a different task: protecting the movement against conservative appropriation."

456 Watching a woman (Markle) who breached her wedding vows getting married to man (Harry)whose parents (Charles and Diana) breached their royal wedding vows, and have his father (Charles) give the "bride" away -- a father who himself is married to a woman (Camilla Bowles)who breached her original wedding vows and had children by another man.

And don't even get me started on Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson.

The UK Episcopalian Bishop who presided over the wedding was extremely direct in his words to the couple. I noticed he had zero hesitation to loudly ask them to "forsake all others". His charge to them was quite strong and I kept hoping the camera would swing to Charles and Camilla sitting there.
By the way, the flowers in Meghan's bouquet were picked by Harry from Diana's garden. The roses placed throughout the chapel were white roses, Diana's favorite. Markel wore that huge blue sapphire and diamond cocktail ring of Diana's to the evening reception.

Take that Camilla.

He and Hillary should form their own party, Call it "can't get off the stage " party.
