The Morning Rant

talking ape.jpg
"So, if you can believe the latest Rasmussen poll numbers, President Trump's approval rating is 50%. Now here is a curious thing. With all the viciously and relentlessly negative media coverage that Trump has received since his election, the deliberate non-coverage of anything positive he has done and the magnification of his every last miniscule fault and mistake, and you'd expect his job approval rating to be in the low 20's or maybe even the teens. That's obviously what the MSM would like to see, anyway. And yet it's at 50%. That's kind of amazing. Especially when you contrast this with all the fawning, dripping, slobbering coverage given to Obama, the constant fluffing, primping, pimping, and boosting, the forced applause given to his dubious achievements and the aggressive ignoring of his manifold failures, and yet his approval rating was 50% or below for most of the time he was in office. One can only speculate what this country would be like if the MSM had covered Obama like they're covering Trump, and Trump like they covered Obama."

ana navarro - trump is an animal.jpg

For those of you who aren't familiar with Ana Navarro, she's a media commentator who claims to be a Republican, but who really is pretty much a Democrat. MSM fake news outlets such as CNN use her as a fig leaf so they can claim they're not re stacking their panels with Democrat liberals and progressives. She gets air time because she can be reliably counted on to spout the Democrat talking point(s) du jour.

I think this is why they *really* hate Trump. In their rulebook, it says that whenever the lefts point out what a rotten person you are, you're supposed to issue a grovelling apology. Trump never does this, he refuses to play by their rulebook, and the more he does this, the more deranged they get.

For some reason, Republicans have avoided these like the plague - wedge issues being too decisive or something.

Baby due in July, seems to be treating the girlfriend right. This is the first girlfriend that seems to really love him. Just need to convince them to marry.

And his boss is insisting that he pay off his fines and get his driver's license back. They told him they'd fire him if he drives without a license. This is a good thing as the stepson swore that he'd never pay off the fines. It's an amazing thing. We know two other guys that have gone 20 something years without a license because they owed fines over $20k. Once the county started working with them to cut down what they owed, they were actually able to pay something back. They both got their licenses back. Will be great when the stepson does too.

GQ has gone both ways. It was pretty much fag fashion and nobody cared, but when Art Cooper became editor in the early 80s it featured good writing and actual good man advice.

Last I've seen of it it's gone to the McNuggets format of content-free fluff.

Here's an example from the good days, on the difference between fashion and style. (I'm using quotes but I'm paraphrasing the quote).

"Look at an old group photo, like the Harvard crew team from the 20s or something. You'd have to be a fashion historian to know who is in fashion, but you can tell at a glance who has style".

Being a Catholic, I take Pope Francis' statement this weekend as OK. The Catholic Faith in of itself does not ban being gay. If the gay person acts on their sexual urges, they are doing that outside the Banns of Marriage. This is as wrong as it is for heterosexuals to do so outside of marriage. With that said, I was hopeful when Francis was selected as pope, but have been gravely disappointed. Enough to leave the faith? Nope, not ever. My faith is bigger and better than one man. The Church has been led by others who brought us astray, and yet 2000+ years later we are still here. We'll survive this one too. But I will call him out, and the USCCBs, when they take a stance I disagree with.

========

No they wouldn't, if they were catechized properly. The Catholic's notion is more institution-centric rather than doctrine-centric. Extra ecclesiam nulla salus. They'd argue that the RCC has existed since Peter, who was the first pope. This organization alone, they'd say, has the authority to correctly interpret scripture and perform the sacraments, hence you must belong to the organization in order to get these benefits.

I have not given up the Catholic faith, there have been corrupt Pope's before and there will be again. Unless he speaks "ex cathedra" with some of his nonsense, it is not a crisis. I no longer contribute to the Catholic church and am praying for the Holy Spirit the clean house. I am a big fan of St Francis of Assissi who rebuilt the Church during equally corrupt times, one little Church at a time until it turned into a huge movement. But a lot of victims of sexual abuse end up becoming homosexuals, so I consider it a cheat for the pope to state this. It wasn't God who made the guy gay, but a depraved cleric. The Pope is trying to deflect guilt away from his organization by saying God was responsible. I'm just looking at it from the perspective that Trump just went on the offensive (more so that his usual). I think Comey did that little press conference about re-opening the Clinton email investigation right before the election on his own, and against advice from the likes of Brennan. That was the reference to the "mistake" in Brennan's tweet. Turning evidence, would be his reference to being an idiot. Everyone assumed that the tweet was aimed at Trump...but I'm not so sure. Being a Catholic, I take Pope Francis' statement
this weekend as OK. The Catholic Faith in of itself does not ban being
gay. If the gay person acts on their sexual urges, they are doing that
outside the Banns of Marriage. This is as wrong as it is for
heterosexuals to do so outside of marriage. With that said, I was hopeful
when Francis was selected as pope, but have been gravely disappointed.
Enough to leave the faith? Nope, not ever. My faith is bigger and better
than one man. The Church has been led by others who brought us astray,
and yet 2000+ years later we are still here. We'll survive this one too.
But I will call him out, and the USCCBs, when they take a stance I
disagree with.

441 That sidebar on the Pope banning crossbows gives you an idea how Catholics deal with a Pope commenting outside his area of expertise.

Like sensible people do they ignore him.

Posted by: Mikey NTH - Purify Your Politics with Cleansing Fire! AtC Brand Flammenwerfers @ the Outrage Outlet at May 21, 2018 12:33 PM (hLRSq)

It says there was a legitimate Pope reason he had for doing that.

Yes, but he also forbade the use of any bow against Christians, as well as the sling. He also forbade jousting and tournament fighting (which were more lethal and play-for-keeps in the twelfth century than the later high medieval versions). The idea seemed to be to limit the deaths Christians inflicted on each other so as not to deplete Europe's armies while those armies were needed for the Crusades. But everyone ignored him, of course.

2. Deprive them of their senators

6. Profit

450 Individuals must determine their own doctrines, and coercive unity is not liberty. "Communist theory" isn't good for a government or a church. I think this was a JJ link this morning, which kinda relates.

This is one of those interminable debates that has been going on for centuries. It's useless thinking it can be resolved. All you can do is pick a side.

459 Then why did Jesus found a Church if he wanted individuals to "found their own doctrines?" Why did He go to temple and teach scripture? Why did the Sanhedrin get pissed that He taught as one who knew? Why have apostles or a bible at all? Why send the Advocate? Relativism is relative. The Red Pope is trying to play both sides, ie relativism backed up by theological specifics. Of course God loves you even when you sin, it's YOU who reject God thru sin, not God who rejects you. That comes out as, "What's your favorite lube?"

He correctly calculated that their hatred of him would overcome any scintilla of common sense they have, and they'd jump into bed with MS-13 just to criticize him. Now every MS-13 atrocity - and there are already a LOT of them - is campaign fodder.

For Trump, this must be like playing chess with a chimpanzee.
