Is there a difference?

Shockingly, the majority of respondents said that they would rather date a convicted felon. In fact, all of the pro-felon respondents were so quick to dismiss the idea of dating a Trump supporter that they didn't even wait to see if the crime was violent or not.

Others suggested that the felon could be convicted on "trumped-up charges" and asserted that the justice system is unfair.

103 A very effective portrait. I like the detail in the carved harp frame and the lady's clothes. The wood tones are rich and sufficiently lighter than the dark background to stand out without distraction. The dark colors really focus the viewer's attention on the model with her porcelain skin and pastel hued clothing. I am intrigued by Garnier's ability to paint the sheer fabric over the dress. The pose seems to me typical for the time: not stiff but stereotypically feminine with the tilt of her head and graceful arm positions. As I said, very effective. I'll bet whoever commissioned it was pleased.

Looking at some of Garnier's other paintings, the man had a sense of humor about women in society.

117 While reading loopy things that contemporary liberals say about the state of America ("Democracy is dying because Trump"), I always try to go back and think of what we were saying at a similar point in Obama's presidency.

Contemporary liberals really do seem to mean that because Trump won, he's dismantling democracy (don't try to analyze it, it's nonsense). But what were we saying?

If I remember correctly, we were saying that America was probably a lost cause. That democracy was failing because the people were making terrible choices. I see a distinction there.

196 The colors look a little faded here, but they are still quite nice. The light, pastels of the dress and skin provide a nice contrast to the dark background. I also like how the figure is framed by wooden objects. The wood on the harp and table have a warm tint that echoes the warmth of the dress and flesh. But they stained a cherry or similar color. To me, these provide a nice transition between bright and dark, rather than a stark contrast that would look odd. It's not one of the great works of the era, but it is still good. And it has some Rococo undertones which is interesting for the date (178.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - The victim of a hit and run crash is speaking out after the suspect was released from the Marion County jail.

Church daycare teacher Jessica Parks, 27, said after checking traffic, she stepped off a curb. She said she never saw the car that hit her.

Parks suffered critical leg injuries in the crash, which happened along 38th Street near Mitthoeffer Rd. Parks was walking to work.

The alleged hit-and-run driver was stopped a short time later. Juana Loa was in the country illegally.

From her room at Eskenazi Hospital where she continues to recover, Parks shared her thoughts on the suspect's release.

"I still forgive her, let's start with that first," Parks said. "I feel Marion County as well as ICE did not do what they were supposed to do to make sure this lady got the consequences she was supposed to get and now I feel like the system has failed."

As for her injuries, Parks sees the bright side first.

"The doctors are fascinated how fast everything is healing."

And there's no hospital gown today. Instead, a dress and pearls say Jessica is ready to go home, eight days after she was admitted.

There is security camera video of the crash aftermath, the gray car taking off after police say it struck Jessica as she crossed the street.

A church bus driven by one of Parks' co-workers caught up with the suspect and boxed in the car.

Loa was arrested for hit-and-run and no drivers license. ICE asked the jail to hold her because she was in the country illegally. But she posted bond last week and walked free. The jail said ICE missed a deadline for filing the hold request.

Parks fears the suspect may now disappear.

"So now she is out here free and she is a flight risk, not just to herself but to other people as well. She did this to me and she may do it to somebody else accidentally as well."

On Tuesday, Parks learned the suspect had no auto insurance, making medical bills a new burden.

Parks said Tuesday she is recovering from the leg injury.

"I'm able to bear weight on it and walk pretty well."

The surgical wound on her other leg is healing well after a compound fracture. And Parks continues to see the bright side.

"Instead of being all sad about your situation you change your outlook on the situation. I'm not going to be sad. You make the best of your situation."

Parks did not have health insurance. Her family set up a GoFundMe.com account to collect donations to help with medical expenses.

Speaking of head tax, instead of dinging employers $275 a head per employee, why not put a 25% city tax on the now-legal marijuana? They'd raise more money, and it would come from people more likely, on average, to be sympathetic to the "homeless".

If memory serves the tax begins for companies that gross over $48M a year. Everyone talks about Starbucks and Amazon, but there are a number of middle-range companies in Seattle. The tax is the tax...the city council believes it can do whatever it wants. (The vote was unanimous) It is capricious as hell.

This is marxism in action.

The state thinks it can impose anything it wants without a reaction from those so imposed.

This will lead to the following...

Relocation of businesses.
Downsizing
Automation
Shenanigans to avoid paying the tax

The fatal and fundemental flaw in marxism is that it simply does not take the ways in which humans actually behave.

It's like the soda tax in Philly, after they imposed the tax they were stupefied that they raised only a fraction of what they thought they would as people simply shopped around the tax.

What was the point of the Revolution if subjects of the British Crown get single payer health care and university education at a fraction of what it costs us and we are stuck with a President guilty of treason, bribery and other crimes, and a Congress unwilling to get rid of him?

Not only that. The Brits live free from fear of military-style assault weapons on the street.

442 It also used to be a good way to work your way into a permanent gig--if you kicked ass, you could talk an outfit to buying out your temp contract and bring you on full time. Unfortunately, that's been getting pretty systematically disincentivized over the past decade or so...

Microsoft used to have more contractors than FTEs. Recruiters for contractor positions would sell you the dream of getting noticed and getting hired, but would tell you specifically and forcefully not to ask overtly to be "converted".

Maybe mid to late 90s you might have a shot, but I only knew a handful of FTEs out of thousands of people I met there that were contractors that converted after say 2001.

Amazon sells the dream directly. They put out positions that they explicitly call "contract to hire". Thing is, at the end of your contract, you still have to go through the same full interview loop they give to any random person off the street. There's no special consideration for the work you did as a contractor.

Harry is already a Prince, and that's as high as he can go.
Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at May 16, 2018 10:42 AM (WFV7d)

Watched a pretty straight forward documentary yesterday about Harry. He decided in his late teens that he needed to go do something meaningful , out of the royal constraints as much as possible, so he chose to go to Sandhurst to serve in the military. He was assigned to go to Afghanistan with his unit , which he desperately wanted to do, until it was outed by the media and a bounty was put on his head by the Taliban. He was removed from his unit, and was chafing to go with it, so a pact was made with the media that if Harry went to Afghanistan, they would keep it quiet until he was home. They managed to not report it for something like a year. He served on the front lines, there was footage of him loading and shooting the big guns with his team, eating goat stew during a holiday meal, etc. He was called Lt,? Wales as a code name. He was interviewed at one point in country , said he hadn't had a shower for a week, and it was great, etc.

Finally the media spilled the beans and it was determined he could be a liablilty to his unit, so he came home and that is when he learned to fly Apache helicopters, which he was excellent at.
He served full time for ten years.

I think he deserves a lot of credit for that and has given me a different perspective on him personally.

He and his brother and sister in law have started a charity to help individual soldiers who come home with PtSD, which he saw first hand while active duty. He also has admitted that he sought therapy for two years recently to deal with his mother's death, which he said for twenty years he kept ignoring until the pent up anger from it caused him to start losing it on people and he was afraid of he might become physical with it.
He tried boxing to deal with the anger, but it wasn't until he was treated that he actually started to come through with it.

As far as Markle, I think the Queen knows that arranging marriages for the royals is a disaster. Her daughter divorced, her son divorced after having an affair with who he really wanted to marry, her other son divorced after marrying a pre approved Brit through the peerage.
Might as well let them choose their own disasters.
