The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

The President is not my father and the State is not my God. Politicians are not my heroes and bureaucrats are not my priests.Ace of Spades

Quote II

"Those are terrible actions," Sanders said, stopping short of calling them war crimes. "Instead of applauding Israel for its actions, Israel should be condemned. Israel has a right to security, but shooting unarmed protesters is not what it is about." Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT)

Quote III

"John McCain is the single greatest political leader of our time," Dana Millbank

Quote IV

I love criminal defense lawyers. I mean, I could never do what they do because they represent violent people who need to be kept away from my family. But damn, do we need these people to be willing to stand up there and take an occasional punch. Ellie Mystal

Let me guess. I bet this vile disgusting man didn't have to use Obamacare.

Former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) is undergoing treatment for pancreatic cancer in Baltimore, MD. From Politico:

“His doctors caught the problem early during a routine screening, and his surgeons are confident that the surgery was a success and that the prognosis for his recovery is good,” Reid’s family said in a statement Monday. “He will undergo chemotherapy as the next step in his treatment. He is now out of surgery, in good spirits and resting with his family.”

Hotties should feel safer now when stopped in Kansas.

In the highly unlikely possibility that a Kansas police officer’s body camera gets turned off during an incident, it might be the result of a new state law signed on Thursday by Governor Jeff Colyer. The law states that it is illegal for a Kansas cop to have sex with someone pulled over for a traffic violation or someone detained in a criminal investigation.

As the Wichita Eagle reports, the new law bans sexual relations "during the course of a traffic stop, a custodial interrogation, an interview in connection with an investigation, or while the law enforcement officer has such person detained."

Will Seattle kill the goose businesses that laid the golden egg?

Seattle leaders on Monday unanimously approved a tax on large businesses such as Amazon and Starbucks to fund the fight against homelessness after weeks of heated debate and raucous hearings.

The City Council backed a compromise plan that will charge large businesses about $275 per full-time worker each year, lower than the $500 per worker initially proposed. The so-called head tax would raise about $48 million a year to pay for affordable housing and homeless services.

The debate over who should pay to solve a housing crisis exacerbated by Seattle's rapid economic growth comes amid skyrocketing housing prices and rising homelessness. The Seattle region had the third-highest number of homeless people in the U.S. and saw 169 homeless deaths last year.

She won't let the 2016 election go. But, at least Hillary is able to stay out of the poor house.

Is Hillary Clinton so down on her luck – or ‘dead broke’ – that she has to hawk picture books on her website for an absurd amount of money?

The book, titled “#STILLWITHHER,” is at the very least another indication that the former first lady just can’t let go of 2016. She can’t move on!

It features photographs from Clinton’s failed 2016 campaign, taken by award-winning photojournalist Barbara Kinney.

To be fair, the $3,000 version is considered a collector’s edition, as it sports a super neat wooden box (Al Gore might call it a lockbox) that converts into a stand to display these remarkable images of Hillary.

Imagine all the under the table cash she would be hauling in if she had been elected president.

WTF is wrong with "Educators"? Let's arrest and put into handcuffs a 12 year old with Autism.

Handcuffed and hauled away. It happened Monday to a 5th grade autistic student at Conroe Independent School District’s Bozman Intermediate school.

The offense alleged against 12-year-old David Sims is brandishing an “imaginary” rifle at his art teacher, an educator who apparently felt threatened.

“She (CISD Police Officer) just put handcuffs on me and told me I need to go with her,” said David Sims.

Whatever happened to common sense?

Your choice: Privacy or convenience?

Thousands of people in Sweden have implanted microchips beneath their skin to replace their wallet and keys, among other everyday items, Agence France-Presse reported Sunday.

The size of a grain of rice, these tiny microchips use radio frequency identification, or RFID, to interface over a range of frequencies with other connected devices. They are being used by approximately 3,000 people in Sweden who value convenience over potential privacy violations.

Implants have become so common in the country that people can purchase train tickets and upload them onto the chip. One woman in Sweden uses her microchip to open her gym and office door by simply waving her hand over a small box and typing in a code, according to AFP. Swedish biohacking group BioNyfiken even started to organize “implanting parties” where groups of people line up to get the kernels embedded.

If these people were animals, what would they be, lemmings or sheep?

Virtue signalling all of your energy needs away in California.

Some people like solar panels on their homes because it’s free electricity, and are promised that any excess energy will be used as a credit against nighttime demands for electricity. Indeed, there is an allure of being disconnected from any grid and being energy self-sufficient. But for new housing tracts, this means adding tens of thousands of dollars upfront for marginal gains later. But this sacrifice to appease the God of Global Warming is deemed sufficient enough to not only offset “carbon” in the atmosphere, but also to assuage the guilt of the rich as the poor suffer in hell-holes in neo-Feudal California.

She does not have a criminal record. Yet. Genius Award Winner.

A mother and son were arrested on Mother's Day after an argument over alcohol turned violent in Polk County.

A deputy was called to a home in Lakeland Sunday evening and arrested 27-year-old Seth Bryant and 54-year-old Judy Bryant.

According to an arrest report, Seth Bryant and his father got into an argument when Seth demanded that he be allowed to have more alcohol. The father told deputies their argument turned physical when Seth put his fist against his face and pushed him with it.

Climbing a mountain? Climbing a mountain and a double amputee? Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day.

The spring summit season on Everest is now underway. Over the next few days, scores of climbers will head to the top of the 29,029-foot peak. Yesterday saw the first successful summits of the year on the world’s highest mountain, and among them was a global first.

Xia Boyu, a 70-year-old double-amputee from China, was part of the first commercial squad of climbers to reach the summit of Everest on Sunday. Boyu had waited more than 40 years for this opportunity.

Obviously, you have never been to Seattle. No econ class, but victimhood and SJW classes are filled with offended students and their professors. All of the English college classes are filled with newly-landed Chinese students.
Seattle has turned from the Clinton wing and gone full Bernie wing of the Democrat party. Bill Gates, of the Clinton wing, can't be happy. But at least he can buy his way out of anything the Sandernistas can invent.

90 So I'll just say something about that quote about defense attorneys.

I used to despise them, for working to get criminals off--clear, 100% guilty people. I still don't think I could do it.

But then it occurred to me: who is the greatest defense attorney of all? Perry Mason? Daniel Webster (Webster did defeat the devil, after all.... ) No, it's Jesus Christ. He represents me at the great judgment bar of God. And like everyone else, I'm guilty, guilty, guilty. Yet Jesus is there to represent me and take my sentence for me, a guilty person.

So I respect those defense attorneys. Even if I pine for more justice in the world, I surely need a good attorney on my behalf, to save my sorry sinful butt.

144 I used to not understand why defense attorneys are so important, either - until I started to get experience, and especially when I started to see how the "Justice System" works up close and personal. And then I started to realize that the Defense Attorney's are the ONLY ones who ever try to stand up and tell Government Officials "no, you can't just do what you feel like, you gotta follow these things we call rules!" And some go over the edge and yes, they defend bad people a lot - but having SOMEONE hold Government accountable for what it's doing is worth putting up with a whole lot.

I've thought of it like this - suppose one bad criminal gets away with something. That is bad, and he is going to to more crimes, and hurt more people, although eventually he'll come to the end of his rope, one way or the other.

On the other hand, look at the consequences when a bad Prosecutor gets away with something - not only will he do more and more of it, he will eventually convert his entire department over into doing that, and sooner or later he will corrupt and ruin the entire community. This is what happens over and over in 3rd world countries - criminals going unchecked is an annoying problem, the Government going unchecked is an end-of-society problem.

the funny thing is that in years past, I would have had to work to convince people that yes, there are prosecutors who go bad, they aren't all tireless, selfless paragons of virtue who serve out of the nobility in their hearts. But today, I don't think I even need to make the effort.

Posted by: Aetius451AD Work Laptop at May 15, 2018 10:00 PM (kD4Pr)

++++

According to the link, a woman accused two cops of raping her. They say consensual. With the new law, that defense is gone. Same with any kind of situation like you describe. If someone says the cop demanded sex or else he would write a ticket, he can't say she came onto him, or whatever. If sex occurred, they can still get the cop on something, even if they can't prove the extortion.

220 Seattle does the annual survey to track down and count homeless people on the streets. Questions not asked include, where are you from? Are you here legally? Are you on drugs? It's a farce. Cops are not allowed to interfere with drug dealing or use on the streets. The lunatic Socialist Council
member Sawant once advocated for the city to seize Boeing and Microsoft so that they could be run for, I shit you not, "The good of the people". Of course neither company is headquartered in Seattle so that fell through. Amazon has brought a lot of tech people in and they are well paid. Housing is in chronic low supply so it's expensive. Lots of easy benefits to be homeless also so they flock in and squat. They asked for it and I sincerely hope they get it. Good and hard.

Yes - Brazil estimates that around 800 refugees *every* *day* come across the border into Brazil, and Columbia may be seeing twice that. Both countries have long jungle borders, impossible to seal off.

But there will be no invasion, for the same reason that the US would never invade. The problems awaiting anyone who tried to take over that zone of catastrophe are so huge that no one would dare to have anything to do with it.

We talk here sometimes about the "Let it Burn" strategy. Well, Venezuela is now at the point where the entire world realizes that they are at the "Let it Burn" stage.

259 Pookysgirl,

I feel for you. I go through waves where I move seemingly every time I turn around, then stay put for some time, then move, move, move again.

In the past four years, I have moved three times. I guess the upside is that each move has been into a smaller space, so I have Guatemala'ed* a bunch of crap I apparently did not need. I have been in my current apartment exactly a year, so I am hoping that this one sticks.

Funny, it never occurred to me to ask my family for help--that would have been fruitless. Two moves ago, though, both ex-husbands and my boss helped me--didn't have to hire movers, just rented a truck. Have had to hire movers both times since. At least it gets cheaper as I own less stuff.

*Guatemala is used as a verb to signify "disappearing" something. As used to happen to people, in Guatemala. Some people find it a funny joke (me!); some don't. YMMV

262 I have a friend whose hobby (avocation, really) is names. In fact, one year, he was the president of the American Name Society. Any way, his theory of name popularity is that people do not use names that were popular in their grandparents' generation because they associate those names with old, sick, wrinkled people. But they do use names that were popular in their great grandparents' generation because those names sound new and fresh to them because they didn't know their great grandparents so those names don't have negative connotations for them. (They do have negative connotations for me, though. I nearly choked when a proud mother told me her beautiful infant girl's name was Olive.)

Heh, I was just looking. There's a question of whether Charles and Camilla's marriage is even legal. Civil marriage doesn't legally apply to the royal family, per the law. Religious marriage in the CofE only.

But somehow Charles and Camilla are civilly married. They got some panel of legal types to say it was legal per British custom or something, but there would be a constitutional issue about crowning her Queen Consort along with Charles (note that Queen consort is just that the wife of the king, she has no authority of her own. She does get "Your Majesty" but she is not the sovereign" ).

"Princess Consort" is some title they're thinking about.

INDIANAPOLIS -- More than a dozen protesters were arrested Monday afternoon after they blocked a busy downtown Indianapolis street during rush hour.

The group was demonstrating as part of the "Poor People's Campaign" and started at Monument Circle before making their way to the area of Capitol and Ohio streets outside of the Statehouse.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police were called to the scene after reports of about 50 people blocking the road. Responding officers tried to talk to the protesters and gave them multiple warnings that if they did not leave the street they would be arrested.

Police say they spoke to the protesters individually and tried to get them to move, but after being left with no alternative they took five women and nine men into custody.

All 14 were arrested for obstruction of traffic.

The group claims they were protesting against poverty, racism and other important issues.

CNN editor-at-large Chris Cillizza posted a gif containing crosshairs over the image of President Trump on Tuesday.

The original tweet read, "Donald Trump, pointing to heavens to commemorate police officers killed in the line of duty," and showed green crosshairs over the president's face.

He was a gorgeous young man, and Elizabeth was attractive...I would have expected beautiful children. Then again, I think they were first cousins, so that may explain Charles. Inbreeding. That man is not good looking. None of their children really are. Not trying to be mean....just too bad there wasn't a looker in the bunch like Phillip.

Lead acetate makes sour wine sweeter, and travel better. (It used to be the thing to drop a lead shot into each bottle of bad Madiera, too. It is one of the reason Port is considered to be a factor in developing gout)

Also cheap wine was cooked down in lead trays to make a sweetener called Sapa. nom nom nom. Lead acetate makes everything sweeter!

Here is the transcript of that famous conversation Charles was having with Camilla:

It was a cell phone conversation (analogy back in those days), supposedly captured by some "enthusiast" and taped off the air (like the little old couple that captured Newt and Boehner's conversation back in the '90s).

In reality it was likely MI5, who constantly keep tabs on the royals. A pro-Diane partisan faction leaked it to embarrass them, after rebroadcasting to a recorder device, to make it look like the real thing.

Note it was Camilla egging him on. I've got many problems with Chuckles, but this ain't one of them. He and Camilla have had the hots for each other since way back, before Diana.

Chuckle and Camilla had the hots for each other since they were very young. He wanted nothing to do with Diana, but of course had to have a proper bride suitable per the rules to be a future queen. Diana was just young and naive and had no idea what she was getting into. But other than that, I don't have much sympathy for her.

The Queen learned her lesson from the disasters of "suitable marriages" of her children. She's letting the grandkids marry who they want. Will and Kate for instance, and now Harry and the Markle chick. That Markle chick would be a bridge too far if Harry were any close to the throne, though.

But I do plan to gnosh it before it goes Ganymede on me.

494 Yeesh - did anyone else catch that sidebar recommendation of the New York Mag article on "The Great Awokening?" That tome reads like a painful reminder of the academic Jargonese. One where you need to re-read every sentence at half or quarter speed 3 times before what seems to be the intended meaning starts to sink in. "It seemed constrained by its awareness of representing blackness for white viewers in a way that previous generations of black entertainment was not." Huh?

Reaching the final paragraph I hoped it would summed up in plain English but hit with: "An artist can be so perfectly attuned to the moment that he or she makes machines precision engineered to flatter contemporary taste."

What in The holy F--ck?

I pulled out some of my old college writing and couldn't remember writing half the similar gibberish in those folders - and as an English major nonetheless. Guess I've dumbed back down over the years to pre-college-smart levels. Lotta good that money spent was. Turns out college really WAS about all the partying and fun you had. I certainly recall more of that than the time I spend creating garbage like that article.

Not apologizing for and even being a proud Christian doesn't mean obsession with Jews. He does have a healthy obsession with defending Christianity, which there is nothing wrong with that.

Interesting how people can read the same thing and come to different conclusions about Peterson and VoxDay.

We are finally calling bullshit on Iran. We are finally pushing the Norks to the brink. And Israel is being given the freedom to act in a way our previous testicle-lacking politicians would not allow them.

Cordially, as one of your friends in gray boxes and a believer in Jesus Christ, I can respond to your rhetorical questions with a couple of well-meaning questions myself.

Why introduce a subject of biblical proportions, use biblical phrases and then swear off belief in the Biblical prophecy?

I think that's the real problem, we've been relatively peaceful of late. Even with the wars we've fought, there was no sacrifice on the home front required. That's why the snowflakes, never suffering real hardship, have no clue what they are trying to do, which is start a revolution. Since they don't study non-approved History, they do not see the end game of suffering and death they will unleash, thinking their safe spaces will protect them like some magic cocoon. The same could be said for our snowflake media as well as our 'impeach' pols, thinking they can trumpet constant negativity about Trump with no pushback, claiming their Constitutionally protected 'rights'. They honestly don't know what happens when shit gets real because they've never had to deal with shit getting real in their 'everyone is special' lives.

Yes, I do think things are converging, and it's all because Trump got elected and threw a HUUUGE monkey wrench into their New World Order plans, from pulling out of TPP and the Paris Climate Accords, trying to halt the illegal immigration madness, moving our Embassy to the official capital of Israel, getting North Korea to actually talk, to killing the Iran deal. Obama got his Peace Prize because things were looking rosy for the globalists when won, but that is now in tatters. The globalists, like Hillary and the EU, are damn scared all their dirty laundry will be exposed, just as our Deep State is worried about the same. They will fight tooth and nail to save their worthless hides, using the idiot young as cannon fodder. But History has shown time and time again when the shit hits the fan, no one is safe.

These are interesting times.

588 booknlass, I suppose I use Biblical language because I that is the water in which I swim. Fish and all. Revelation is an account of the persecution of the early church, not a blueprint for the return of the Son of God.

I believe the lessons we are to learn from Revelation are particularly relevant now, as the Church goes from Church Militant to Church Remnant. In the West, we have entered post-Christian times. Those of us who would truly live our faith are discovering that the forces of culture and government are aligned against us--just as they were against the early Church.

So Revelation is not a prophecy, but a primer.

The lesson is that we are to be faithful, even when that means persecution, humiliation and powerlessness. That God alone is directing the so-called arc of history, and we, in our limited vision, must cling to one another and be prepared for martyrdom--whether figurative or literal.

590 WWI and then II on it's heels did a lot of weird things. That combined with the rise of socialism (oh look there, the REASON for at least one for the two world wars) and things get even odder.

You had a drastic reduction in manpower, combined with the rise of policies that dehumanize people (that might well have not gotten through if there had not been that dramatic social and population impact of the World Wars- at least in the West.)

I like playing the 'What if' game? How about this one on for size, we have theorized what would have happened if there had been no World War II, but what if there is no World War I? What might the world look like then? Britain still vital? Russia still Czarist? Constitutional monarchy in Russia (I have my doubts on this one, Russia has always been odd and very pro-strongman.) America still a powerhouse, but rivaled by England and Germany?

How many people would still be alive, even if everything had not gone so horribly sideways in 1914? Socialism has been responsible for so many human losses in the 20th, not to mention historical and cultural (esp in China's case.) What is it never got it's feet wet in Russia?

595 you are eloquent, LadyTheo, but i differ with your belief about Revelation. I've been taught it's prophetic, and I believe that it is true.

604 booknlass, I suspect that a conversation with you would be satisfying, fruitful and engaging.

I often pray for Christ to return now, because I am tired and weak, and not sure I am up to the fight. I am so terribly tender-hearted, underneath a very flinty exterior, and cannot bear the suffering of any of God's creatures. I hear the words of St. Paul, "Who will save me from this body of death?"

And of course you are correct--We are not to know the hour that the master returns; we are to stand and wait with our lanterns lit.

I see a convergence in our views--not knowing the hour, not knowing the circumstance, we are to bear witness. The Orthodox see that the martyrs and saints set the pattern for us--we strive to live inside their lives. Where you see a prophecy, I see a blueprint.

We otherwise faithful, can sort out the theological details later, once the commies, shamans and democrats are dealt with.

Eh, doesn't have to be from Africa. Just bring back Benedict XVI. He probably has more serious theological chops than just about anyone anyway.

A "caretaker" at the head of the Catholic Church is exactly the wrong prescription for whut ails it.

Immanuel Kant was a real pissant

Schopenhauer and Hegel,
And Wittgenstein was a beery swine

There's nothing Nietzsche couldn't teach ya

Socrates himself was permanently pissed...

John Stuart Mill, of his own free will,
with half a pint of shandy was particularly ill,
Plato, they say, could stick it away,
half a crate of whiskey every day,
Aristotle, Aristotle was a beggar for the bottle,
Hobbes was fond of his dram,
And Rene Descartes was a drunken fart,
"I drink therefore I am."
Yes, Socrates himself is particularly missed;
A lovely little thinker but a bugger when he's pissed.

You could probably burn some limited amount of pine indoors but use one of those chimney sweeping logs weekly or a half cup of TSP every fire. Simpler to use outdoors in a fire pit.

645 "I am tired and weak and not sure I am up to the fight."

Same here. I find encouragement in late night conversations like this among Teh Horde, which is why I keep coming back. But I still worry that I don't really belong here. This morning I read some of the comments about the IL property tax plan and pensions, and it freaked me out a bit to see some people suggesting that people who work for a city or state ought to be shunned and ostracized because "shit won't get real until that happens." Well, I'm one of those evil people who works for the state (NOT Union however) because it was better for me and my family than driving 100 miles a day to a job (in the equally evil profession of journalism) that paid barely above minimum wage. If I were to lose my pension (which will be nowhere close to six figures a year) and my benefits I would understand completely although I would not like it and it would put my family in a world of hurt. At 54 years old it might be too late for me to make a switch now. Does that make me a traitorous bitch who's screwing the taxpayers, or not? I worry about that sometimes.

Yes, Parents have been spared the burden and embarrassment of explaining sex to their children who always seem to ask, "Where do babies come from?" and the parents then have to explain, "When Daddy loves Mommy very much, Daddy puts a seed into Mommy and it grows into a big watermelon. And when the watermelon is large enough, a stork flys down the chimney with a little baby and trades the baby for the watermelon."

Regardless of your political leanings, everyone owes it to themselves to read The Communist Manifesto at least once f only to be able to draw their own conclusions about it.
