The Morning Rant

talking ape.jpg
"So we've all seen conservatives suddenly go liberal, right? David 'Media Matters' Brock is the first example that comes to mind. And there have been others. Sh* happens, right? And of course, the opposite happens as well, some liberals become conservative. But here's the funny thing: there are a number of black liberals who have gone conservative, but not the opposite: I don't think I've ever seen a black conservative go liberal. Maybe it's like what Harriet Tubman said about seeing hundreds of escaped slaves but never saw one who was willing to go back and be a slave."

(h/t Candace Owens)

Yeah, He's Just Too Uppity:

One can only imagine the hair-on-fire outrage if this was a headline on Fox News.

The 'Everybody Does It, So It Must Be OK' Defense:

Not sure this defense is helpful to NBC...

The police ought to just shut down 30 Rock, that wretched hive of scum and villainy, and give it to nuns who take care of widows and orphans. It's not like the present owners were doing anything good with it.

I don't think Kanye has to worry about it.

Yeezy's are the like entire centerpiece of Adidas' whole plan to rebrand as hip "street shoes" (in addition to their athletic shoe line).

If they got rid of Yeezys, or if this shoe campaign fails for Adidas, they're kind of fucked. They don't want to compete with Nike head to head in who can pay more for athlete's endorsements.

The collateral evidence (his stunning "extorted" remark, the improper establishment of a special counsel without evidence of any crimes) tends to confirm the worst possibilities with him.

But what's really amazing is that, over a year into this ballet, there appears to be no evidence that DOJ makes any effort at all to work things out with the Hill committees. That is standard procedure and common sense. Far as we know, there is almost no response from DOJ, of any kind - and then there's a last-minute running to mom (Ryan) to avoid dad's punishment, or similar. Amazing.

A guy by the name of Traphes Bryant wrote a book many years ago about his time as the dog keeper of the White House (Dog Days at the White House). A really great read and something I've read over and over again.

Anyway, he did interact with Kennedy and while he never said anything bad, there are a number of stories in there about, well, certain liberties taken. Nude lounging in the WH swimming pool with various other men and women. Walking in the WH and seeing a nude "secretary" go tripping by. And such. He played it kind of for laughs, but there was an undercurrent of disdain in his writing I think.

191 Wrt the previous thread. My kids attend the same public school I did. Boy spawn graduated in the top ten of his class, national honor society, and commander of the junior rotc unit. My girl spawn is finishing 6th grade this month. She learned to read in first grade, learned to tell time on an analog clock, and learned cursive writing n 2nd grade. By third grade she was starting to learn fractions. This year she has learned math that we didn't study until 8th grade. This school doesn't push "alternative " lifestyles as part of the curriculum. Small town, teachers and school board known by everyone, and conservative-ish area. Not all public schools are indoctrinating kids. I keep a close eye on what my kids are being taught. If it's climate change horse shit in earth science class I make sure my kid knows the facts. This is why the snow on the first day of spring got announced by the girl as "mom, there are global warming flakes everywhere outside. Who ordered that crap?"

239 Not sure, but wondering if his statements and actions might reach the point where his removal from the case is an issue. He is most likely well founded in his suspicions, but not sure that matters if "impartiality" is the standard."

I don't think "impartiality" is actually the standard at all, in any legal case. Conflict of Interest is the standard for recusal, which generally means some personal or financial connection to one of the parties.

But it's sadly pretty common for Judges to be openly disdainful of one side or the other in many cases. They're technically not supposed to, but unless it gets overwhelmingly outrageous, it's almost never enough to get a Judge removed from a case.

Or, as all trial lawyers know, if the Judge decides that they don't like you or your client, you are screwed.

262 The same for the so-called "gun show loophole."

I'm close to done explaining to leftists that the "loophole" they're complaining about is actually private sales, which are often not allowed at gun shows.

I tell them private sales have restrictions too. They have to both be from the state they're doing the transaction in, and the buyer cannot be a prohibited person.

Funny thing is, the internet is WAAAAAY more effective a tool for bringing strangers together for a private sale than a gun show is.

Also, anyone who is willing to sell to a complete stranger is playing with fire.

Right, it was the 18th century before there was any real attempt to standardize language into coherent, consistent spelling patterns. Which greatly advanced the cause of literacy, comprehension, and language.

Before that, the .2% of the population who could actually read and write would just make up whatever they wanted and seemed to be right, and everyone did it differently.

Also from Valerie Jarret, demonstrating what an excellent judge of Obama she is:

"I think Barack knew that he had God-given talents that were extraordinary. He knows exactly how smart he is....He knows how perceptive he is. He knows what a good reader of people he is. And he knows that he has the ability --- the extraordinary, uncanny ability --- to take a thousand different perspectives, digest them and make sense out of them, and I think that he has never really been challenged intellectually....So what I sensed in him was not just a restless spirit but somebody with such extraordinary talents that had to be really taxed in order for him to be happy....He's been bored to death his whole life. 336 I used to listen to the local "classic rock" station KGON a lot, but after a while it got so predictable it was painful. Even Classical Music stations have more variety. And the music while often good, is so arbitrary. What they consider "classic" is just "the stuff I liked in the 70s and 80s" with a cutoff of around 1986.

These days, its just oldies. Its the equivalent of the station that played only pop songs from the 50's and early 60s.

Reminds me of the old joke:

"That's amazing. How did he know?"

"The judge told him."

357 Let me rant about Boston's classical station - I like Mozart, Telemann, Haydn, Handel and Dvorak as much as the next fellow, but the same damned composers every single day? How about some Bax? Or Korngold? Or Fibich?

Yeah, they can really get into a rut. Until around 1995, all you'd hear was Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Brahms, and then specific repeated pieces by people like Tchaikovsky, Handel, etc. And you knew the pieces by heart: That's water music. That's the spring movement from 4 seasons. That's Night on bald Mountain.

One of the greatest things about today is that hundreds of basically forgotten classical composers are being rediscovered and enjoyed again. Yeah, they aren't the best of the absolute best -- there's a reason Bach etc are so revered -- but they are really good and its nice to have variety.

The local All Classical station even has a show on weekends doing cinematic soundtrack stuff, which in my opinion is the only place modern classical is being written these days.

Here's an idea for the judge:

Remove Mueller and close down the investigation in its entirety, and put in its place a Special Master to "complete" the investigation of "collusion" and in addition investigate the obvious DOJ corruption--since the Executive Branch can't be trusted to investigate itself and since the Legislative Branch is "obviously politicized by its very nature".

The sensitivity and importance to the Republic of the case requires appointment of two Co-Special-Masters:

Mark Levin,
Alan Dershowitz.

381 >>Not saying it WILL happen and wouldn't bet anybody--especially Straw. But it popped into my head.

Contra the media, Trump has Mueller right where he wants him. He has spent a year trying to prove Trump colluded with Russia and instead all he proved was that he didn't.

In the meantime a whole host of people who tried to take Trump down have been exposed and are under investigation by both the IG and even more ominously for them a team of federal prosecutors.

Mueller's investigation is imploding. Flynn had his sentencing delayed again the other day for another 60 days and the case will likely get tossed. Now Manafort's judge is hammering the prosecution for bringing a questionable case and he flat out told the prosecutor that he knows the only reason he brought the case was to try and get Manafort to flip on Trump.

If Trump fired Mueller all he would do is give the left ammunition on a dying investigation. Sessions is going nowhere, he is the one overseeing the IG and prosecutors going after the guy who tried to get Trump. The only potential wildcard in the group is Rosenstein. I doubt he is going to fire him today if ever.
