The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

In practice, socialism didn't work. But socialism could never have worked because it is based on false premises about human psychology and society, and gross ignorance of human economy. David Horowitz

Quote II

When the major pushes away writers of color, and centers white narratives, it perpetuates this [lack of racial diversity in the publishing industry at large.Mya Nunnally

Quote III

The fact is that God wanted us to be with ourselves, us with our women. He respected white people who wanted to keep their race white, because we sure want to keep ours from being any further mongrelized.” Louis Farrakhan

Quote IV

“Hollywood is a cesspool of looney liberalism. When at industry events I expect everyone to be in lockstep with the Left. Then I spend the entire night listening to people whisper to me that they agree with me but can’t afford to lose their jobs. So they suffer in silence.”James Woods

You've heard of the Blue Wave. But, have you heard of the Manitowoc Wave? Scott Walker faces another opponent.

Sorry Charlie, I like Scott too much to vote for you.

We are all critical of our federal government. You know the one, the one too big to succeed? Well, let us give credit, where credit is due, ICE.

ICE EVADES SANCTUARY RULES BY USING NYPD FINGERPRINTS TO FIND IMMIGRANTS AND SEND THEM CALL-IN LETTERS

Funny thing, the Progtards are always screaming about rules are rules, until it bites their pet project in the ass.

Screw 'em.

Our government might be too big to succeed. A first hand look at Venezuela which is too inept to succeed and iscircling the drain. h/t Zakn

There is an overall sense of malaise permeating this country; we know it’s there, we know what’s causing it, but we can’t do anything about it.

After the 2017 protests were over we’ve collectively resigned to live survive through this disaster as best as we can, but every day is harder than the one before, and escape is the only solution we have if we want a future for ourselves and for our loved ones in the immediate future; unfortunately, it is not a solution that everyone can afford, it’s an uphill battle for most but I’m afraid that it has become the only way.

For the most part, we have given up trying to fix this mess caused by the PSUV and the MUD (and not for the lack of trying or a lack of will to do so); this is a beautiful and unique country worth saving a thousand times over, it’s just that there is not much we civilians can do beyond sporadic protests here and there when there is no real political alternative to coalesce around with a solid proposal to fix this massive disaster; protesting itself now comes at a high risk, hell, even the mere mention of calling for protests is now punishable as “hate speech” and can get you twenty years in prison.

Danny Glover, Sean Penn and Bernie Sanders no where to be found.

It's all fun and games until the Junkies line your path to your ride.

SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) — Shocking video is calling attention to what’s going on in one of the busiest BART stations in the Bay Area: drug users blatantly shooting up out in the open as commuters walk by, others slumped along filthy corridors.

Read The Latest Bay Area News From CBS San Francisco

It’s a gauntlet commuters walk through every morning at the Civic Center BART and Muni station.

Regular commuter Shannon Gafford knows people have to see it to believe it. “One morning I said, ‘I got to pull out the camera and show my friends this. They’re not going to believe it,’” he said.

If you allow abhorrent behavior why are you surprised that it runs rampant?

Barack Obama. Former POTUS and super-duper gun salesman. Now he can add another qualification to his resume. Obamacare is driving folks to drinking.

Do you want a case of vodka with your ObamaCare this year? Or perhaps a barrel of brandy?

More people do than used to be the case, and it ain’t pretty.

Only a few years into the Obama’s signature healthcare law, also known as the Affordable Care Act, and more Americans have taken to the bottle, according to new research.

“We find relatively robust evidence that the ACA increased risky drinking,” states the report, “The Affordable Care Act on Health Behaviors After Three Years,” published by the National Bureau of Economic Research earlier this month. The paper was written by researchers from Georgia State University, University of Pennsylvania, University of Kentucky, and Maryland-based analysis firm Impaq International.

Now that would be a high tech ray gun. Radio Frequency Vehicle Stopper.

A device that resembles an old phonograph may soon be used to jam and shut down vehicles like the one that killed 10 people in Toronto.

The van driver who killed 10 Toronto pedestrians on Monday showed that a terror technique that ISIS pioneered in Iraq and Syria in 2015 remains terrifyingly effective against unsuspecting urban populations. But the U.S. military is working on a new weapon to stop vehicle-born terrorist threats, one that could help police departments as well.

The Defense Department’s Joint Non-Lethal Weapons Program, or JNLWD, is pushing ahead with a new direct energy weapon that uses high-powered microwaves to stop cars in their tracks without damaging the vehicle, its driver, or anyone else.

Wouldn't it be just simpler to ban mini-vans?

What does a zit and David Hogg have in common? Both are annoying and full of impurities.

Gun-control activist David Hogg now wants to stop elected politicians from speaking to the National Rifle Association.

In a tweet Sunday, Mr. Hogg noted that he had signed a MoveOn.org petition to “Demand Mike Pence cancel his speech to the NRA convention on May 4.”

The tweet to Mr. Hogg’s 777,000 Twitter followers links to a petition that makes a similar demand of Nick Ayers, the vice president’s chief of staff. The Dallas gathering is of the NRA’s political lobbying arm, not the broad membership meeting.

Mr. Hogg was able to use his Twitter-following last month to force dozens of companies to pull advertising from Laura Ingraham’s Fox News show after she taunted Mr. Hogg about his college rejections.

He was apparently much less successful in a later effort to sic his Twitter followers on investment banks who manage stock holdings in the company that makes Smith & Wesson handguns.

Now that my friends is a concealed weapon, Genius Award Winner.

Witt was subsequently transported to the McLean County jail, where arrestees are subjected to a strip search. It was during that procedure that a female jailer recovered a loaded Kimber .380 caliber handgun from Witt’s vagina. The weapon, cops say, had a fully loaded clip and a bullet in the chamber. The gun, seen below in a photo from the manufacturer’s web site, is 5.6” long and weighs 13.4 ounces with an empty magazine.

Access might be a bitch.

We rip the NFL and their overpaid and coddled players. Tonight is different. Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day.

Don Jones, 27, is a defensive lineman with the San Francisco 49ers. He graduated from Hazelwood High School in Town Creek, Alabama, and returned to his home state just to escort 18-year-old Lindsey Preston to her prom.

"Lindsey always stayed in contact with me and the family," he told WBRC-TV. "Her mother asked me to go to the prom with her last year so I told her I would be more than glad."

Speaking of, if you get a chance to visit a planetarium that has one of the crazy Zeiss projector telescopes, it's well worth it. We went to one in a little museum in Atlanta and it was amazing. Pretty neat to have the planets, stars, etc. projected on the dome and then switch to the astrological entities (if that's the right word) before switching back over, picking a planet, and zooming in like you were flying there. Our kids loved it.

80 Hey everybody, again.

I have to share this. I've told people here in the past about my interest in the poker world, playing poker, et cetera, and about how I enjoy reading a poker blog by a guy who's not exactly a huge winner at the game, named Tony Bigcharles.

Anyway, I've also shared that he has some mental deficits, including that he's autistic.

Tony has always written about how tough it is to try and be a "poker pro," and written on and on about his ups and downs as a player. One year (or month) he's rich, the next he's poor, etc etc. He also is VERY fundamentalist Christian (his mom is one of these who basically believes Jesus is coming back every weekend) and has some very strange ideas about Trump, politics, etc.

Anyway, he's now in jail in Clark County, Nevada. Seems he's now basically saying on his blog he wants to be the next Nikolas Cruz. Read this blog post. Another person who knows him personally (I do not know Tony personally, only through his blog) called cops in Las Vegas, and they found Tony and charged him with "making terroristic threats."

Wanted to ask people here what they think of this. And yes, this man can definitely use as many prayers as he can get, even though he's likely a near-hopeless gambling addict.

Here's his latest blog post threatening murder and suicide. Like I said, it sounds as if he wants to be the next mass shooter. (As far as I know, this guy doesn't own any firearms.)

https://tinyurl.com/y9fradur

Especially note what he says he thinks about why Trump was elected, and what he says in the final paragraph. Chilling, and I'm surprised Google (who owns Blogger, the network this is posted on) hasn't already taken this down.

Try rolling your own. It's a slow, natural way to quit.
Pipe tobacco contains so many less chemicals than cigarette tobacco. It's cheap as dirt (I can roll a pack of smoke s for about 30¢), and if you get in the habit of only rolling one when you crave it, eventually it is almost more trouble than it's worth - you'll want to quit pretty quickly.

I'm almost a non-smoker now after 30/years because of this technique (wasn't my goal - it was an unexpected benefit).

It's funny. When I was young, I did just about every illegal drug out there except Heroin. I knew it was a bad thing and even in my high school I can only think of one person who died from it back in the mid 70's. I quit doing all illegal drugs when my military career became more important to me than a buzz and I never looked back. Also, alcohol was still cheap and plentiful. I've been retired from the military for almost 18 years now and I still haven't touched any illegal drugs. They're just not important to me.

You should read the article. It's kind of interesting. They are sending the letters to people that are settled in, telling them if they don't come in, ICE will come get them.

For those on the receiving end, Deri Oshiro explained, the thinking is: "I don't want to be detained when I'm taking my daughter to school. Or, I don't want to be detained while my daughter is at school, and there's no one to pick her up."

Coming in voluntarily let's them have some control over the timing. Plus, they probably figure they have a better shot at working the system if they are cooperative.

Moron Robbie: I quit eighteen years ago, and every once in a while I find myself reaching for the cigarette that used to be parked in the ashtray next to my recliner. It's not something I do consciously; it's just some freaky reflex. (I am very fortunate. I am one of those reformed smokers who doesn't miss it in the least little bit. I really feel for people like you who still want so badly to just light up, sit back, and relax.) 138 The problem with addiction is that your sub-cortical brain records the hit from the high very deeply--and along with it, all the temporal associations--making recovery a nightmare.

The temporal associations are one of the reasons AA tells members to avoid all of their old haunts and friends. The sights, sounds, smells, etc. linked to the original experience of the high trigger activity in the brain that is like a visceral memory. Very hard to ignore.

I have something like this happen to me when I hear certain songs-they immerse me in instant grief and sorrow so deep I begin weeping. I have learned the hard way to avoid certain environments and situations.

157 I smoked for more than twenty years. My primary sent me to a cardiologist who ran the tests and said I had a blockage. He prescribed pills and exercise and a diet and suggested that I quit smoking.

For a year I did everything he listed except I continued to smoke.

It's time for my second annual and I'm feeling confident. I'm in better shape and I've lost weight. The results come in and I now have two blockages.

Science and math are overtaking me. I've done everything the experiment requires except quit smoking.

For the next year I so so on the diet and same for the exercise; not bad just not religious.
And I quit smoking.

Again I go back for my third annual and this time I have normal blood flow. Normal blood flow.

The ICE letters reminds me of an old US Marshal's ploy back in the 80's.

I remember that.

OPD did a similar type of sting on unlicensed contractors once. Caught a good friend of mine, too.

The phone rings one morning, I answer it and hear, "This is Sgt. So-and-So, OPD. Do you know (insert my friend's name)?" and my first thought was, "Oh shit, do I have to go identify a body first thing today? I haven't even had coffee yet."

Thankfully I just had to go pick him up from the po-po station. As retribution, I gave him a tape of him getting busted on the evening news that night.

We both had a good laugh about that. I also called the Sgt back and thanked him for not coming down too hard on my friend. That could've been a lot worse for him than it was.

I think there is a large margin of error, so to speak, on diet. The data are really noisy. Exercise is an intuitively good idea-humans up until 5 seconds ago spent all day moving their bodies just to survive, but not necessarily in huge hits of frenetic activity. If you just move your large muscles frequently and in a variety of ways, you accomplish much of what you need for CV fitness.

That's just used though. A real refurb from the manufacturer usually has to pass all the factory QA tests it did the first time they shipped it. Some put them in new enclosures or give them new displays too even if they don't need them.

Ok, the idea that you are merely a replicant to cover for yourself so you could go on a vacation is completely false, as is the fact that if you ever came back you would be destroyed as to not be superfluous.

What a waste to destroy a replicant when you can make good money selling it to a salt mine or to recycle radionuclides!

And ignore that off-color inclusion in your iris. That's just genetics. Honest.

My dad's parents lived in Muncie. Granddaddy was dean of Ball State. Small house. Most excellent climbing trees. And a doughnut shop that made applesauce cake doughnuts. Oh my. Now I am experiencing a very strong, but pleasurable, craving.

232 My addiction is food. I drank a lot years ago and smoked for many years, and I was able to give both up with little to no problem. But you can't quit food cold turkey. You have to eat to survive. Unfortunately, though, celery, carrots, and three ounces of bare naked chicken just don't do it for me. I was totally aghast to discover that half a cup of either cooked pasta or cooked rice is considered a full serving. I want a loaded plate of spaghetti or chicken fried rice. And I'll take several slices of garlic bread with the spaghetti. And potatoes! I love potatoes. Actually, I am totally addicted to anything starch. Wave a decent hoagie under my nose, and I'll follow you any where. Broccoli, not so much. And the chicken fried steak at Catfish Lake is to die for.

I was maybe 15, and I can remember it to this day - his "friends" locking the ICU door so they could cut out lines of cocaine for him (they had to remove his oxygen tube). They would pile him into a wheelchair to walk outside and then feed him acid & smoke pot. It was pretty disgusting.

245 Deplorable Lady, I hear you about food addiction. It's tough because you have to eat...

But I have a hunch that will change in the not-too-far-away future. I am reasonably certain supplements could be designed for the morbidly and/or life-threateningly obese, that could provide a person all the nutrients they need, and also hopefully suppress appetite.

Only problem is, it's like morphine for the addicts in rehab. Eventually you have to disconnect from it (or stop using it) and go back to real life, and re-learn how to live it. Or in the case of the above, re-learn how to enjoy food without going crazy, learn how to control cravings, etc etc.

This is clear mental illness, desperately reaching out for some kind of help, in the way that the deeply mentally ill do. From what I read, I don't think he's very likely to hurt anyone else (although it's always possible), but I do think he's a real suicide risk.

dammit, running these people through the criminal justice system is not the way to help them, but that's about the only option our society is allowing as a way to deal with them these days.

From my experience, and how I've faced the issue personally - first of all, it is a true statement, BUT that doesn't mean you don't try, because you never really know what they need, and your effort may be all that they need to get the strength to pull back. So you try, but sometimes you fail. Not your fault, because it was not a decision that was ever truly in your power.

Survivor's Guilt is a very real and very debilitating thing, and it happens in the aftermath of almost every suicide. And those who are the Survivors have to be reminded that they should fight the sadness and guilt that they feel, for they never had any real power over anyone else's life. Often it takes years to do that.

I only caught a couple of minutes of Bibi's presentation before I had to do grownup things. Then when I was at liberty I checked the news and it was all about Mueller's list of questions. Even three CSPN channels were showing other stuff.

Fine. There is an internet. I watched 18 minutes of Bibi displaying original Iranian documents demonstrating their lies and their violations of the representations they made to the IAEA to vouchsafe the deal.

So I wondered how this was going over in, say, the New York Times. I used to love the NYT. It felt like the height of sophistication that we got it delivered to the house in college and I'd read it every morning with coffee in front of a fireplace. When I moved to NYC it was my paper and even if I was just a bartender I could read it at a morning cafe and feel part of its world.

What does the NYT say about the Netanyahu presentation?

"Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu cited no evidence that Iran violated the nuclear deal, but the accusation may bolster the case for Mr. Trump to pull out of it."

380 The thing about depression that few understand is that it is a solid, palpable thing. It's always there and it's always pressing down.

Telling people to cheer up, or that there's always hope, or that they should try to be more positive is basically the same as telling a short person "Why don't you just try being taller?"

IE, it doesn't work that way. I hope Insomniac is okay but I know that road very well.

382 364 Death awaits us all.
Why hasten it?"

The rational thought of a healthy mind. But my niece (who also suffers depression even though she is smart, good looking, has what many people would think is a wonderful life) said something to me once that encapsulates what depressed people feel perfectly.

She was visiting our house in the winter, and while she was driving her car hit a patch of ice on a busy road and spun into the median. Amazingly, it wasn't damaged, she wasn't hurt, and she could put it in gear and drive away.

But what she said was that as her car started spinning, and she realized it was completely out of control and she thought she was going to have a huge wreck and die, all she could think was "Oh good it's finally over."

and that, deep down, is what runs through a depressed persons mind every minute of their lives. It's not on the surface very often, but its always there.

416 Like other commenters, I simply cannot imagine the incredible mental anguish that would drive someone to suicide. I come from a long line of self medicating bipolar and/or depressives. I think I've mentioned before that I start each day with Welbutrin and end it with Xanax. Both of my mother's parents committed suicide.

The problem though is you have to realize that you have a problem. So many people with mental issues believe they don't have a problem; the rest of the world does. Others are ashamed to admit they've thought about suicide or doing something horrible to another person. My oldest grandson's half sister is schizoid. She, at least, knows it's time to visit the psych ward when the voices in her head start telling her to hurt people. We as a society still need to make mental illness acceptable, not something to be ashamed of and hide until it's too late. That's my personal crusade -- to make mental illness as acceptable as measles or the flu. It doesn't make you a bad person or mean that God is punishing your parents for some sin they've committed. In my case, it's just an inherited chemical imbalance in my brain, just like my macular degeneration is inherited. In both cases, modern medicine has new techniques to handle them.

I really hope Insomniac is ok.

The brain is the most powerful part of the human body. It can drive us to do astonishing things. What we think, we feel. And what we feel, we act upon.

I have learned, when I run and feel as though I am at the end of my ability to breathe, to lift my foot, to progress forward a single inch, to think to myself, "This is just my body trying to tell me to stop. It is lying." And I find the means to continue.

And I am bad at self-talk. Some people are amazing.

About two minutes after the bumper aired (we thought it was hysterical) there was a knock at the door. It was Brad the Stoner.
Us: What's up man?

452 422 LadyTheo: No problem. Like I said, I have made it my life's mission to convince people that mental illnesses are sometimes as simple as a chemical imbalance in the brain. Unfortunately, all too often, the situation is far beyond that simple remedy. My oldest grandson's half sister will never be able to live by herself and will need constant supervision. But she still is capable of more than merely existing. When her schizophrenia isn't acting up, she is as nice and pleasant a kid as you would care to meet. She has problems reading because her schooling has been interrupted so much and let's not even talk about more than the most rudimentary math.I feel bad for her because she certainly didn't ask for these problems.

Too often people make snap judgments based on half remembered granny tales from their childhoods. C'mon, people!!! This is 2018, not 1818 when people paid for the privilege to visit Bedlam to view the crazies for a laugh.

I was just going to lurk here until I realized what might -- or might not -- be happening with Insomniac.

It made me remember a "goodbye" post I made here a few years ago. The Horde helped me through it, and helped keep me from following through on my plans. I still struggle, but I make it, one day at a time.

Depression sucks, and it will make you consider and do things a normie wouldn't think of at all.

482 So, in more Netanyahu news, I wondered how it's going over in Europe.

The FAZ says Pompeo supports the authenticity of the documents but the EU expresses skepticism. The EU's deputy for foreign affairs says that the IAEA has already produced ten documents on Iran's compliance with the deal and if anyone has any information to the contrary they should present it.

Netanyahu said "we've already shared this with the United States and we're about to share it with IAEA and other international partners".

I'm looking forward to major retractions.

Now if only they'd invent a Booming Car Stereo Silencer.

Posted by: Hands at April 30, 2018 10:04 PM (EzdLW)

Seems to me the only real usefulness for that device would be in cases of hot pursuit, as described in the link, where the truck bearing the "ray gun" pulls ahead of the pursued vehicle, and turns on the beam to immobilize it.
Jihadi attacks such as the recent one in Toronto (and I call it a jihadi attack, because it bears all the hallmarks, and will continue to do so unless convincing evidence to the contrary is presented) are basically unpredictable as to time and place, and begin and end over the course of a few seconds, meaning there is probably not enough time to warm up and aim the projector, even if there is an operator standing by. And jihadis will quickly learn to buy old cars with Kettering ignition, or Diesel engines, which are immune to microwave beams.

517 Here's the, er, most interesting stuff, from that spooky post I told you all about at Tony Bigcharles' blog. Bear in mind, these statements were posted at his blog PUBLICLY, not privately.

* * *

people are indoctrinated from birth into hating white people, particularly men. women are taught its better to be with a man who isnt white and by doing this they are helping to structure a new and better world. theyre taught to believe in multicultarism and diversity and those are rotten tomatoes in the eyes of almightly God. the only real diversity needed in this country is diversity of thought and of opinion and thats the only kind prohibited in public. facebook and twitter and google are blocking anything as hate which doesnt agree with their anti white agenda.

Donald trump was supposed to use physical violence to deport all non white men out of this country by force of the government, this is the entire reason why so many voted for him, because secretly, like me, theyre fed up with this shit too. but he is being blocked from implementing his agenda.

...

how can anyone be expected to play good poker, or gamble at their best, when theyre always stressed out about money all the time. so much so they cant take care of their doctor needs or their identification card needs? its too much work without a full time assistant able to do everything for me since im incapable to do it. i see people out having a good time not a care in the world and i just wish they were dead and that i could be the one to arrange it, to do something which would get my name in the papers on TV forever like so many others have done. to kill people simply for being happy, and for not having to sweat the hustle everyday to survive like i do. for i can never be happy. happiness is only a luxury for the top 1% who never have to worry about their bills. people constantly worrying about meeting their basic needs cant be happy unless theyre drunk or high which is why so many destory their lifes that way, theyd do anything to dull their pain so they can be happy. it takes MONEY to be happy and lots of it.

524 Old Blue, yup. The problem with Tony is that he wants to be a professional gambler, but he has nowhere near the right temperament for it.

For decades he has been roaming on a month-by-month, sometimes week-by-week basis, to everywhere there's casinos in the USA, trying to find games that he considers profitable. Which hold 'em and other poker variants sometimes are... but Tony is also in love with Video Blackjack, Video Poker, and other games that NO ONE can win long-term. Yet *he* believes he can beat them.

Tony's most stable period was about five years ago; he spent almost a year (maybe a bit more, I believe) living at, of all places, Gold Strike in Jean, Nevada. He managed to keep winning at one particular video blackjack machine, and would post really angry stuff about tourists (what few they had) who would come and play "HIS" machines. OMG. Then he had a run of bad luck, someone else tried to use the machine I believe, and Tony actually physically threatened the person, even breaking some glassware in the process. That got him banned from that property, and similar things have happened to Tony at others as well, including Four Queens, where he was physically threatening with, of all things, an old fashioned corded telephone.

The truth is that he has major mental issues and is addicted to gambling, on top of having some major issues with autism and an inability to communicate properly and clearly with other people. Tony is also incredibly frustrated, and has been for years, over his lack of success with women, and believes basically that all women are whores who only care about looks and money. He's a classic incel in that respect. He was also brought up very sheltered in a super-conservative Christian home, and while I support a Christian upbringing, I have the impression his mother was more Carrie White's mom than "Dawson's Creek."

Anyway, I will be very interested to see where Tony goes from here. Something tells me he's gonna be a guest of Nevada's penal system for a bit.

525 Mom had a Buick Skylark. She loved that car and had it forever. I hated that car because when it came to change spark plugs for her I had remove the engine mount, and jack up the engine to get to number six. There was no way to remove that spark plug without doing that. It was an engineering disaster. And don't get me started on fuel pumps in the gas tank. That was only done to screw with shade tree mechanics like me.

I've always been curious about people who play video blackjack. At a live table, if you're really good at it, you can kind of predict how the play is going to go. On video blackjack, every hand is determined by a random number generator, and every new hand is determined by that. But I see a lot of people playing that and their odds are about as good as Keno, which are the worst odds in the house. If you're going to gamble, at least do the things which might tilt the odds in your favor.

529 After reading the stories of people smuggling booze/drugs to those in the hospital, I feel like such a lightweight. The only thing I've ever smuggled into the hospital to a patient (my ex brother-in-law) was a roast beef hero. He was sick of the restricted diet hospital food he was being served. Something about wheat allergies. But he wanted that roast beef hero and, being the good brother-in-law that I was, I brought one to him. The look of sheer joy when he saw it, then took a bite, relieved me of any guilt.

531 Old Blue, exactly. But Tony, like a lot of gamblers, has a million superstitions. For instance, he believes he can *tell* when a digital deck of cards in a computerized gambling machine, changes. Things like that. I have no idea where he gets these notions from.

He's always done his best playing poker, particularly Omaha, which I have to admit is one of the most difficult variants of poker there is. But he gets bored and starts playing machines; on top of that, unfortunately a lot of casinos are phasing out poker, which leaves people like Tony with a lot less places to play. He constantly craves money, believes any day he's not gambling and making money is a wasted day, panics if even a few days go by without him gambling, and typically does things that no sane person or even most run-of-the-mill gambling addicts would do.

534 Mom had a Buick Skylark. She loved that car and had
it forever. I hated that car because when it came to change spark plugs
for her I had remove the engine mount, and jack up the engine to get to
number six. There was no way to remove that spark plug without doing
that. It was an engineering disaster. And don't get me started on fuel
pumps in the gas tank. That was only done to screw with shade tree
mechanics like me.

Posted by: Old Blue at May 01, 2018 02:03 AM (gEvQ

Skylark, or Skyhawk? The latter was built on the Chevy Vega/Monza platform, and looked like a little pumpkinseed. The V6/V8 models of that platform had a very tight engine compartment indeed. The pro tip for spark changes was to use a hole saw to cut a 2" hole in the right side fender apron, so you reach the problem plugs from the wheel well.

The Skylark, IIRC, was a bigger car that shared the same platform as the Olds Cutlass, and there was plenty of room in the engine compartment.

In that vein, I just spent yesterday afternoon at Mom's, 'cause older sister was in town. I love her dearly, but she's been a hard-core lib since her college days destroyed her Republican upbringing. Naturally, some stuff came up.

Love is a powerful thing. I did not have to bite my tongue until it bled when she started praising Jane Fonda. I just thought of Viet Nam bombardier Vic living long enough to pi$$ on that miserable traitor's grave - and Jane Fonda's Barbarella having the first boobs I ever saw on the big screen - and then I didn't feel any need to respond. Just had another chip and her son's excellent green salsa dip.

Every machine in a casino is based on a random number generator. It's an e-prom. They can set certain parameters, but the machines are required by law to pay out a certain percentage. Of course that certain percentage always favors the house.
The reason I like video poker is that I can play very well against the machine with a 1% edge. Does that mean I'm going to win every time, no.
I don't have the patience to do blackjack because you are always going to get some moron (not in a good way) sit to your right and blow a lot of hands. Same with live poker because I don't have a good poker face.
I've done not too badly on video poker because I understand the game and can play against it. Do I always win, no. Do I always lose, no. Mostly I come out about even which is good enough for me.
Gambling is gambling. Only a fool would think that he's going to win all the time.

548 Just did an F3-search. 48 mentions of Insom on this page.

The first was Insomniac saying, simply, "This is a drive bye." Without the context of his recent comments, any of us could have said that without anyone thinking of it as anything but waving hello. Drive-bye - clever pun.

Then "Ruthless" got worried what it meant, and the concern virus spread from there. Insomniac is certainly worth every bit of the loving concern from the big-hearted Horde, but I think (or hope) that can be classified as a bit of an overreaction.
