Pat Condell A special court hearing this afternoon was held to decide whether Alfie should be allowed to be flown to Italy, who granted him citizenship yesterday, for additional care. The judge in the case again rejected the appeal to transfer the child to Rome, but left the door open for moving him from Alder Hey Children's Hospital. CHICAGO (CBS) — UPS headquarters might be in Atlanta, but for almost three months, hundreds if not thousands of pieces of its corporate mail were delivered to a small unassuming garden apartment in the Rogers Park neighborhood in Chicago. That corporate mail included tens of thousands of dollars in business checks. According to court documents, it began with a simple unauthorized change of address form filled out by a Chicago man. Now, it’s the focus of a federal investigation. Apartment 2 at 6750 N. Ashland Av. became the address for UPS corporate headquarters in October, after the man who lives inside filled out a change of address form at a post office, according to a federal affidavit. UPS corporate mail then was redirected and delivered to the apartment.

In its latest Global Wealth Report, Credit Suisse said the millennial generation has faced "a run of bad luck", much of which was centered around the financial crisis. "The “Millennials” – people who came of age after the turn of the century – have had a run of bad luck, most clearly in developed markets. Capital losses in the global financial crisis of 2008-2009 and high subsequent unemployment have dealt serious blows to young workers and savers. Add rising student debt in several developed countries, tighter mortgage rules after 2008, higher house prices, increased income inequality, less access to pensions and lower income mobility and you have a “perfect storm” holding back wealth accumulation by the Millennials in many countries." Nonetheless, real Americans continue to ignore racial and ethnic barriers, no matter what the politically correct classes instruct them. The results can be almost comic, on occasion, such as this from The Sentinel: On May 11, the male golf team of Lincoln University, an historically black college in Jefferson City, will compete in this year's PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship. The tournament begins May 11 in Port Lucie, Florida. The goal of the tournament founders was "to provide a national stage for players from minority colleges and universities to compete in NCAA collegiate golf events." That said, not all of the golfers at Lincoln are black. Truth be told, none of them are. Sears, once upon a time a retail giant. Has a major stockholder calling for its breakup. I was interviewed by a mainstream media reporter yesterday. I thought he wanted to talk tech issues, but we actually spent almost the entire conversation discussing the feeling that many conservatives have that America has gone off the tracks and is headed toward dissolution or alternately, a civil war one day. Obviously, this would be a terrible thing and ironically, twenty years ago, it would have been laughable. Today, the joke isn’t so funny because we are a deeply unhealthy society with a dysfunctional government and for all our money, success and storied history, we seem to be on an increasingly dangerous trajectory. So is walking enough exercise for you? We humans need to exercise in order to stay healthy. Exercise protects against disease and early death, and keeps us mobile and able to perform daily tasks. Walking is an easy, free and enjoyable form of exercise. But is a nice stroll enough to confer the life-saving benefits we know come from exercise? We posed this question to five specialists in the field. A funny thing happened on the way to being green. Canada's oilsands have a mineral used in battery manufacturing. Vanadium is a largely obscure metal often used in making steel. It retains its hardness at high temperatures, so it’s ideal for making drill bits, engine turbines and other parts that generate heat. In the oilsands, Vanadium is one of the metals that comes out of the ground with bitumen. The concentration is quite low: a barrel of bitumen would contain just 30 milliliters of vanadium, on average, experts says. But multiplied by the millions of barrels of production from the oilsands every day would be about 33,000 liters of vanadium. Vanadium has a density of 3.36 grams per cc. So a million barrels of oil would be about 100,000 kilograms (100 tons). One year of production would be about 36500 tonnes. 22 popular products that were designed by idiots. Most of those "idiot"product designs are PEBKAC issues. The complaint about the length of a cable for a dvd drive, for example. That cable is just long enough to work with a desktop computer. If someone wants a smaller one because they need the drive a specific short distance from their laptop, they can buy one. But the cable that comes with a device needs to work with everyone's shit, not just yours.
Most of the complaints were similarly self-centered. Posted by: Stephen Price Blair at April 24, 2018 09:38 PM (2lndx) 24

The reaction causes a brittleness where the Titanium has been scraped with the Vanadium, leading to stress-fractures. Which is why there were precisely *zero* Chrome-Vanadium tools on an SR-71 or A-12 flight line. I am so damned mind-burningly SICK of hearing "Islam needs reform," or "Islam needs a Martin Luther."
The Protestant Reformation was asking the question "What does the Bible actually tell us?" and then following that; getting away from nonsense such as indulgences. In Luther's time, no one had a Bible. In Luther's town, there was one, written in Latin, and kept in a library, chained to a desk... and covered in dust. Conversely, EVERYONE in the Middle East has a Koran, and it's written in their own language. There is no question of what it tells them to do. So what the HELL do people mean by "Islam needs reform"? Do they think they're going to remove things from the Koran, and then everyone will just forget that the original version existed? Posted by: RKae at April 24, 2018 09:47 PM (/5zGR) 58

Posted by: joncelli ------------- Disassemble. Soak in ethanol-free fuel for a day or two. Blow out. Some folks soak in injector cleaner, as above. Or, save yourself the trouble and buy a new one. If it's not totally plugged ... I've had good luck using Sea Foam or another carb cleaner - shot straight into the carb throat.
Even if you're ONLY running on the carb cleaner - I've been able to make that work before until the carb starts picking up gas from the tank. Then just let everything burn out. Posted by: ScoggDog at April 24, 2018 09:52 PM (fiGNd) 76

U.S. District Judge John D. Bates called the government's decision to end Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals "virtually unexplained" and therefore "unlawful."
The unlawfulness is yours. I'll explain it to you, Hawaii Judge. DACA is a One-Man Law, Passed by a One-Man House and a One-Man Senate and signed by One President. Therefore, it may be repealed by One President. Additionally, it defies the actual laws passed by the 535-man Congress. Furthermore Hawaii judges are not One-Man legislatures or Presidents either. This ruling even defies the laws of grammar. DACA stands for Deferred (Law Enforcement) Action on Childhood Arrivals, not Permanent Amnesty for Childhood Arrivals. Glad I could help, Your Honorless. I used to be one of those people that said islam needs a Martin Luther.
*** Martin Luther took on the corrupt leaders of the Catholic Church, and called for a return to a more original version of Christianity. Islam had that recently in a man named Sayyid Qutb. Like Luther, he decried the corruption in Islamic governance and called for a more pure version of Islam. The problem is that Christianity is inherently peaceful. Islam is inherently violent. From a materialistic view you have the religion of a carpenter versus that of a warlord. Islam doesn't need a reformer...it needs a reconquista. Posted by: 18-1 at April 24, 2018 10:07 PM (Z8FFX) 138

*** The amazing thing here is that only a trivial amount of government money would be used to transfer the child to Italy for care there...and yet the government still would rather kill the child. We used to contrast the West with Islam in that we love life and they love death...but for broad segments of teh west that is no longer true. Posted by: 18-1 at April 24, 2018 10:01 PM (Z8FFX) ++++ I think it's more about not wanting to be shown up. If that child gets saved in Italy, then logically, he could have been saved in England. Which means they were wrong to deny treatment in the first place. If he dies where he is, they can still claim that his death was inevitable anyway. Posted by: Anon Y. 155 The basic theological flaw with Islam:
A believer cannot know his/her fate. There is no salvation or even Buddhist-like enlightenment. Posted by: Circa (Insert Year Here) at April 24, 2018 10:10 PM (B3NHb) It is really much more ridiculous than that. Islam says that God us essentially unknowable. It says that Allah (who really isn't God, but anyway) is not bound by any rules, self-imposed or otherwise, and does whatever he wants. Allah told Mo what to do and when to do it, and now muzzies are supposed to do just as Mo did, or else they are not doing what Allah told them to do, but none of that means dick because whether you go to heaven or hell is completely out of your hands. There is no reason to investigate nature if you are a muzzie because Allah can just change it if he feels like it. There is no reason for scientific inquiry at all. The entire universe is and will remain a complete mystery, beyond our grasp. Islam is a radical heresy of Christianity, where personal responsibility is absent, including any cooperating with the Holy Ghost or any other means of sanctity. This is what happens when you worship Satan, the Father of Lies. Any god who tells you to kill innocent people is no god at all. Posted by: tcn in AK at April 24, 2018 10:29 PM (NXsWM) 251

know abut that, YankeeFifth. I definitely prefer frozen french fries over fresh-cut. Freezing them removes some of the moisture, and they come out of the fryer much better as a result.
I'm not sure if that same principle applies to Tater Tots, but I'm leaning toward a "yes, it does" answer. Anyone more knowledgeable on cooking have an opinion on thtis? Posted by: Prothonotary Warbler at April happened to hear one of the food channel chefs opining about tater tots one time. he was commending some guy on doing a bang up job on the handmade tots. he concluded by saying that tater tots are one of the things that food manufacturers really do a better job on than chefs because of the way they prepare the potatoes with freeze drying and other stuff. may be wrong about the freeze drying. After pondering on it for a couple of hours, I thought of a rather simple way to handle the "national divorce" we're talking about, but I also can think of a couple reasons why that wouldn't work (and why any other breakup plan wouldn't work, either)
The method - simply announce that the Constitution is dissolved, the Federal Government is dissolved, and all sovereignty is devolved back to the 50 states. Any new associations between states can be negotiated and entered into by the States themselves. The biggest problem - all social security, medicare, etc is instantly dissolved, anyone who depended on those to live is SOL. Also, the national debt would all simply be defaulted on, probably resulting not just in a national depression but a worldwide depression, as well. But that happens in any breakup, no matter what the terms are. Posted by: Tom Servo at April 24, 2018 10:59 PM (V2Yro) 362

Good lord, can we please have a moratorium on 1) anything about pot, and 2) any kind of "statistical study" ?
Imagine those two things overlapping. So, prenatal pot use. A study of 3207 women, 5.7% of whom used pot during pregnancy. OR, better stated, 182 of 3207 women. A 50% increase in low birth weight, you say ? Well, HOW low, exactly ? Doesn't say. Well, how many women normally have a low birth weight baby vs. those using pot ? ALSO doesn't say. You know why ? Because those numbers are guaranteed to be TINY. If they weren't, they'd absolutely be in their little "pot is bad, mmkay?" study. If you can use your brains to understand why global warming, AKA "climate change" is fake, you should be able to wrap your brains around why every goddam "statistical study" telling you what is good and bad for you, especially given their HORRIFIC history in telling you what is or isn't bad for you - is dog shit. Yep - it's pretty clear what he's trying to do here. He's trying to strip out the last few parts of Sears that still have value, and once they're out he's gonna declare bankruptcy, shut down all the stores, and sell off the real estate. Of course what he doesn't realize that with malls failing across the country, the potential value of all of those wonderful real estate holdings is going to zero as soon as he shuts down all the stores. In the Kashuv thread Christopher Taylor posted the following:
I see a lot of people saying "sue" and claiming constitutional rights were violated, but I don't see any basis for that. Cops leaning on someone isn't a violation of rights, being called in as a kid to the principals office to explain something you did isn't a violation of any rights. The problem here isn't what they did but rather why they did it. The motivation is the issue. I'm all for a kid being hauled up to talk to the man if he's posting crazy stuff on the internet. Maybe if they'd done that with Cruz, he might have been stopped. What they did, though, was to shut up a kid who is making them look bad and who won't conform. Their reasoning is wrong, their motivation is suspect, not their actions. The problem is what they did. It was an absolutely text book violation of 18 U.S. Code 241. Here is the law: "If two or more persons conspire to injure, oppress, threaten, or intimidate any person in any State, Territory, Commonwealth, Possession, or District in the free exercise or enjoyment of any right or privilege secured to him by the Constitution or laws of the United States, or because of his having so exercised the same; or If two or more persons go in disguise on the highway, or on the premises of another, with intent to prevent or hinder his free exercise or enjoyment of any right or privilege so secured They shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and if death results from the acts committed in violation of this section or if such acts include kidnapping or an attempt to kidnap, aggravated sexual abuse or an attempt to commit aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to kill, they shall be fined under this title or imprisoned for any term of years or for life, or both, or may be sentenced to death." You may not conspire to intimidate anyone because of his having exercised his constitutional rights. Major federal felony. The fact that they were cops is irrelevant. Likely the principle of the school is also part of that conspiracy. Kyle wrote he was "scared" and they were "trying to intimidate him". There is a difference between a legal interrogation and a conspiracy against rights, and this crossed that line. Their detention of Mr. Kashuv as part of their illegal conspiracy can be construed as a kidnapping, and opens them all up to possible federal death penalties. If pot caused a 50% increase in low birth weights then they really aren't low birth weights, anymore. They should probably encourage women to smoke pot to increase the weight of their baby by 50%. Posted by: ThePrimordialOrderedPair at April 25, 2018 12:18 AM (8gDQu) 562

FLOTUS in her dinner get-up, pretty amazing.
Sure it's marginal stuff in itself, just fluff one way or the other, but the treatment of Melania by the society/fashion/glamor/whatever press and figures, vs. that of Michelle, actually is a pretty disgusting confirmation of the degradation of the civic culture. Easily the most beautiful and glamorous FLOTUS evah - disdain, nasty vicious innuendo about marriage, mockery. So nice to see the WH return to old-fashioned, candlelit state dinners in the State Dining Room (holds 140) after the Obamas' tacky, colored-floodlight spectacles in the East Room (holds over 300.)
The cost of state dinners, paid for by the State Dept., ran about $250,000 to 300,000 (in constant 2000 dollars) from the time of Reagan through Bush43. Then came Barky, whose average expenditure was over a million. That average doesn't include the $3,000,000 extravaganza he threw for Mexico, where the guests were served in floored and heated tents on the South Lawn, having been conveyed there on a little train. And let us not discuss the cost of staging a big show by Beyonce, who as we know epitomizes class. Oh, I see that the Trumps had a program by the National Opera featuring works by French and US composers. Now I want the Nevertrumper Countryclubbers to STFU. Oh, come on. It's been painful for me to come around on Trump, but come around I have. Still, there are so many flaws in this point of view. Trump wears his ties down to his gonads. That's wrong. The tie comes to just below the belt buckle (except you shouldn't wear a belt, you should wear braces). And even Ronaldus Maximus was wrong. He wore brown and orange suits. Wife and I went to the Senior Day final home game of some girls, that my wife had as grade school students, college softball game yesterday. Beautiful sunny afternoon to start the 3 PM game, the first game. A little breezy, but it was at our backs so no big deal. They won the first game of the doubleheader, and wifey says "do you want to leave or stay for the second?" Being the good husband that I am I say "Let's stay" knowing it was now 5 PM and the teeth of the rush hour so why even bother leaving for another hour or so. So we stay. It's starts to get a little chillier and the sun is getting lower and the team is losing 3 to 0. Should be over soon, and we can go grab dinner on the way home. They tie the game up in the bottom of the 5th. The opposition goes up a run in the 6th, and the home team ties, in the bottom of the 7th....Crap, extra innings. Finally after 11 innings the good guys win, and we can go home. It is now almost 8 PM. I haven't eaten dinner. I've been up since 4 AM. I'm retired dammit and I usually eat dinner at 5 PM like my stomach demands. We are both pretty cold by this point and tired and drive home to have a small sammich before a shower and bed.
A great win for the girls though. Hopefully some brownie points for me Posted by: Bruce at April 25, 2018 05:52 AM (8ikIW) 705

Well, gotta get ready for another day of meetings so we can figure out why we don't get anything done on time, and don't meet budgets. There's no work like rework.
Posted by: CrotchetyOldJarhead Meetings are bad enough, but I especially like the lunch meetings. They'd bring in some pizza that was cold, or Chinese food that was cold, or cold sammiches that were warm. Take an at best a half hour meeting and turn it into a 90 minute waste of time that needs Tums at the end. A perfect day Posted by: Bruce at April 25, 2018 06:51 AM (8ikIW) 735

2 star vodka is too refined for my tastes. Sort of single filtered is best for my simple needs. Really, if your Value Rite Vodka doesn't get stuck in your teeth, are you getting the real deal, or just a cheap knock off? Posted by: In Vino Veritits at April 25, 2018 07:01 AM (UFLLM) 748

"Fuck Yeti and REI. "
has anybody found conclusive proof that REI did indeed tell Yeti that REI's stance on firearms would preclude them continuing to do business with Yeti if Yeti remained aligned with the NRA? That would seem to queer the narrative of an innocent misunderstanding. Posted by: Village Idiot's Apprentice at April 25, 2018 07:04 AM (EyPfd) 753

Have not looked in depth at the Arizona special election but the Donk Was an attractive female Dr who more than likely was lying through her teeth about everything she stands for and how she will vote. The problem with the GOP is they for the most part are A. Just offering up Democrat lite and B. Not mounting a muscular defense of Trump and his supporters. Which would be underscored by winning by 5pct in a districts Trump won by 20. You want Trump numbers? Act like Trump. Posted by: Kreplach at April 25, 2018 07:13 AM (UfMVm) 760
