I remember breathless reports about the latest rumor - a new one every week or two - that Romney was about to enter the 2016 presidential campaign. And I remember every last one of those rumors turning out to be false.

I also remember a post made here VERY early on in the campaign season about how Romney wasn't particularly interested in running, but that a number of his supporters were trying to persuade him to run by creating stories about "rumors" that he was going to run. The idea was that these "rumors" would generate a groundswell of support that would then convince him to actually go ahead and run. Apparently not very many here remembered that post, though, given the reactions here every week or two when another one of those rumors was breathlessly reported.

There was no plan by him to run in 2016. It stories that he was going to was all a bunch of failed manipulations by people who wanted him to.

Now as for the current bit in Utah...

It's a bit too early to congratulate each other. If I'm reading this correctly, because Romney's opponent didn't get 60 percent at the convention, the two will face off in a primary. So Romney might still turn out to be the Republican candidate for the Senate seat.

It was a regular post, not a comment. So I'm not the one that put it up. It would have been either Ace or one of the cobs. Unfortunately, I don't remember who made the post. 118 To be clear, Mitt will probably win the general election. He was ahead in the first vote, only after eliminating other candidates could Mike Kennedy get over 50%.

That being said Mike Kennedy gave a great speech and is a great candidate.

The problem is Mike Kennedy doesn't have the name recognition, and a lot of people who vote will vote for Romney because of the 2002 SLC Olympics.

There are power struggles in the Utah GOP right now. They sang the national anthem, had a welcome message, let a few people speak (basically let Orrin Hatch say farewell), and then went to vote on the rules of the convention. That took 4 hours by itself.
