The Morning Rant

talking ape.jpg
"Here's something uplifting to end the week: Tammie Jo Shults, the Southwest Air pilot who managed to land her damaged plane after a deadly engine explosion earlier this week sent a text message to one of her friends immediately after landing. She simply said, 'God is good.' You maybe think you had a bad week? I can practically guarantee you that Tammie Jo's was worse."

The Man Who Saved Children

A bit of context: Some TV show in England introduced a woman in the audience as one of the Jewish children who were saved by Mr. Winton, and after explaining what he did and how they found out (he had never told anyone), then the hostess tells her "And the man who saved you is sitting there next to you." So after they meet, the hostess turns to the audience and asks "And do we have anybody else here tonight whose life was saved by Mr. Winton?"

And that's when every last person in the audience stands up. It had all been arranged in advance by the TV show.

The country of Israel recently celebrated its 70th anniversary. It is also the 75th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. I thought this video would be appropriate.

52 Trump tweeting this morning on oil prices is classic Trump - he's factually wrong, but he's politically correct (in the good sense of that term), that's what drives all his enemies crazy. Americans hate OPEC, even though it lost the power to actually influence prices 30 years ago. But they still pretend that they do, and a lot of Americans still believe they do, so it's good politics to verbally berate them whenever prices go up. It's classic demagoguery, but it really pisses the dems off to see someone on the other side doing what they consider to be THEIR act.

At the end of the day I have to question the quality of your steel. Your blade did not make the cut. Please surrender your weapon and leave the forge.

145 Mid-morning musing...

>> God is good

This time.

God established the reliable laws of physics and an age of reason and science, scientists who deduced these laws and the technicians who applied them to modern inventions.

Some Moron said, if God had wanted man to fly, he would have given us the Wright Brothers. God gave us them, and all the engineers and wizards - and businessmen - who developed reliable modern air transportation, so that a plane can be safely landed on nothing but a wing and a prayer.

The pilot had regular training in dealing with just that kind of situation, background in dealing with stressful situations; God made modern flight training excellent, the pilot adept from experience, and the SWA hiring practices wise.

God's weighted dice-roll at the beginning of Creation determined that the exploding engine's shrapnel did not do even worse damage that would have resulted in complete disaster for all on board. That was relatively providential. This time.

God works in sometimes convoluted but not entirely mysterious ways. Miracles may be a fortuitous juxtaposition of circumstances. Omnipotence is like that.

Pray the family of the poor woman killed, and all those injured and terrorized by the experience, find comfort and release as much as possible.

164 CA at least had Reagan before the cross border invasion, IL brought you Obama and Hillary. IL has been run by the "Chicago Mob" since??? I don't know when. The 30's?

Chicago's mob grew out of prohibition and the gangster era I suppose, where Alinsky learned tactics from Capone. Royko wrote "The Boss" in 1971 exposing the iron grip Mayor Daly had via his "syndicate". Yet not much changed, his son came to power, and now Madigan reigns in the legislature. Madigan learned from Daly, and is the same sydicated, even though we got a Republican governor that has basically been lame duck from the start.

But Illinois doesn't have the excuse of needing third world laborers, although they can probably use the H1-Bs (or H1-As, whatever) for a lot of work. Still, in that respect we are much different than CA. Hollywood and Silicon Valley also skew CA in a different way than IL. And we don't have as much military presence.

But our debt is as bad or worse, and "syndicates" seem in control of both governments ... so in that way yeah, kinda the same.

Oh you know there is. It is 100% certain at least one documentarian was working on it, and there were 500 people with cell phones filming it all as well. While otherwise incredibly sloppy and lax in their lives, the left are astoundingly disciplined when it comes to message and controlling media.

The footage is out there somewhere. All of it, at least the parts that weren't destroyed on fear of death.

Years ago, before I was 29, my friend's older brother worked for the Parks Department, and had an office in the old Soldier Field. We had tickets to a Pink Floyd concert there. I rode with him, and he told me he arranged for a special parking place close to the stadium (we lived in Indiana). So, we get to this maintenance garage that had a few parking spaces. It was cordoned off and a guy was standing there.

My friend's brother said, 'I'm X and work with Y, and he said I could park here.'The guy standing there said, ' I don't care. This is my garage and I determine who will park here.' He was a complete asshole.
After a short exchange, the guy let us park in 'his' garage. But the point was made.

After getting over the shock of this guy's assery, I said to my friend's brother, 'Welcome to Chicago.'

238 Shults may be as good a pilot as Sully, but landing with one engine is relatively routine compared to landing in the river with no engines.

They train for losing an engine, and they train for cabin depressurization. BUT they don't train for both (according to one pilot's commentary). He said they allow for improvising and prioritizing on the fly, so to speak, in case of compound emergencies.

But Shults remained calm and as far as we know at this point, did everything correctly.

- - - -

I think it's better attributed to them being the Clintons. The Clintons learned long ago that the best way to get friends in DC is to buy them, and they did this at every opportunity - doing favors, monetary or using their power/connections - to make people feel they owed them. For example, I recall reading an article about Hillary while she was in the Senate, and it marveled over how good she was at networking by distributing her PAC money to other Dems in Congress. She made sure that all the first termers were flush with her money to get re-elected. They did this with the MSM, having them host CGI conferences so they could network with VIP friends of the Clintons, etc.

McCabe was bought, and may have been for many years. Would not be surprised if it is shown that he was one of the people who was sharing classified docs with Clinton. Same goes for Comey; what favors did he receive from Bill and Hill over the years?

We saw this with Obama constant stabbing of Bush when "he won" (not that i find Bush all that ) after he slaps Trump, but said nothing during Obama, When THAT was the most dangerous period in America, undermining half the country by inciting man against man continuously with the medias assist.

all i can believe at this point is it was all planned out, to do a takeover, much like Egypt, Syria, etc..

we are still fighting this. Can we win, will americans be smart enough to see how this is a no win for us being a non cohesive society that believes in a culture that believed in itself a beacon of hope?
When we are then told our culture is shit and EVERYTHING must be defeated from work ethic, to upholding family, children, for a greater good?
what greater good?
there is None that they espouse it is just defeat for all of us, of any ethnic or religion, or a people.
If we stand for everyones perverted (not sexual thought in this comment)premise with no clarity we are standing for nothing that holds cultures together .
we must have lines, Clear lines of law, clear lines of stepping on others space, clear lines.

otherwise chaos, which they might like to defeat us all, but that's what it is to Defeat us all.

... and that lies at the heart of a lot of the shit that's going on.

Both Dems and Republicans play this game confident in the notion that, worse case, they only become a temporary minority party ... still the Second Most Powerful Political Entity in the Country.

Its why both parties support the expansion of Government - so that Second Most Powerful Political Entity becomes Second Most Powerful Entity.

Both Parties disdain the notion that the Citizenry should ever hold Most Powerful Entity status.

If we're going to continue the notion of constantly accepting the edicts of Government as unlawful to challenge or ignore - then we sure as Hell need more choices regarding who can pull the levers of power than our current two.

Or we need to take the Power of Government down a peg or three.

But the blatant attempt to overturn democracy has to stink to at least some people. This is a direct effort to negate their vote.

300 Last year's winner of the National Eisteddof of Wales competition was Bubba from Texas. He edged out Pierre the Frenchman in the poetry competition. In the final round they were required to come up with a poem in less than 60 seconds that had to include the work Timbuktu.

Pierre was first and recited the following.
Across the shifting desert sands,
I saw a camel caravan
And as I gazed afar I knew,
their destination...Timbuktu.

Bubba followed with this epic win:

A hunting Tim and I did went
and found three maidens in a tent.
They being three and we but two,
I bucked one and Tim bucked two.

325 Giuliani will be useful (hopefully) since he has a good reputation and is largely liked, especially after 9/11, and also after bringing crime down.

Not sure what he plans to "negotiate" with Mueller. But I'd think it would NOT be to have Trump be interrogated. He should spend a couple weeks in "talks" maybe ... but that would just pave the ground for Trump firing Rosenstein at the least, maybe also Mueller, and maybe even Sessions for letting the shit show go on to absurd levels. Giuliani can go on a TV special and explain the massive illegal invasion by Rosie/Mueller, as the OIG report emerges exposing even more broad criminal activity.

Will Mueller send a team to break down Giuliani's doors at 4AM, and confiscate ALL files Giuliani ever had with clients or as mayor? Because Mueller just wants to get to the bottom of the Trump Russia collusion, right?

DeepState has exposed themselves as "fascists" ... worse really, because they are doing it for the "syndicate", not for American Liberty. They need to be fired and prosecuted ... gonna need a bigger Gitmo Boat.

The U.S. economy is doing better than it did under the previous. He seems to be accomplishing things on the world stage. So why the moron accusation.

346 But not even Trump has the balls to say "screw you"
to some pissant Hawaiian judge. Nobody wants to challenge the
preeminence of the judiciary.

Unelected judges decide things in this country, and that's that.

Only because Trump understands the current political environment he's in.... if/when that changes, I believe he'd give them an Atomic Wedgie the likes of which has not been seen in our lifetimes....

347 Every time the Legislative or Executive bows to the Supreme Court ... they set the precedent that the Judiciary trumps all."

One big structural problem in our current Constitutional form of government is one that I think the Founders foresaw, but they thought it would play out differently than it has.

That flaw is - with the powers of Government divided into 3 theoretically equal branches, any two branches can unite and overpower the third in a crisis where there is disagreement. What's happened over the last Century is that the Executive (including the Bureaucracy) has gotten comfortable with running to the Courts (ie, allying with them) to get them to agree to let the Executive Branch to overrule Congress and do things however they want. Now, Congressional members who are out of power are running to the Courts to try to get them to help Congress grab some power back from the Executive.

But BOTH of those branches don't realize how they empower the Judicial branch every time they play this game. The Constitutional way to cut back on the Court's power is for the Executive and the Congress to agree on what needs to change, in other words ally with each other in order to limit the 3rd branch. But since they are always at each other's throats, that looks like an impossible task.

The wheels for that were set in motion back in 1803.

Well, yeah, but presidents and Congress were not as slavishly deferential to the courts then. They were jealous of their own powers.

It was really in the 20th century and under the influence of Progressivism that courts became supreme.
And that was because the Progressives needed their cooperation (and later their aggressiveness) to build a polity that was at obvious odds with the Constitution and even majority rule.

351 Not sure what he plans to "negotiate" with Mueller.

Maybe he'll make him an offer he can't refuse. I mean, Giuliani isn't exactly an Irish name.

352 Did I mention the thirty minutes we spent at CFA today, talking with supervisors and employees?

Started with the standard greeting while we were eating.

Ended with a Youth Pastor, a Supervisor and a little old lady customer all talking about which Church had the best message.

I felt like at any moment, the late Billy Graham would come wandering in, and a revival would break out.

Pretty awesome.

Dude that's so beautiful. After looking right fucking at it in print, you managed to spell both her first and last names wrong.

That took some doin'. Way to keep up the old tribal tradition, there.
Hope she cares just as much about her flying next time you're on board.

363 When I was a young (preschool, but precocious) child, I was hospitalized. Staff and visitors kept calling the kid in the next crib "Brian", But I could read the label on his crib, and it was "Brain". I was puzzled. Some sixty odd years later, and visiting the old home town, I picked up a newspaper. There, in the obits: Brian Brain. Puzzle solved.
